Is iTunes Match more accurate now?

What would you rate iTunes Match's matching ability? 50%, 70%, 10%, etc.?
A lot of people have reported that some songs in albums don't get matched but are uploaded. Others report that dirty (parental advisory) versions of songs are replaced by clean versions, and different remixes/mixes are being mixed up (pun intended).
I don't have a lot of faith in iTunes Match, since even iTunes Genius has stopped working properly since 2010 — almost 3 years now — and Genius Mixes are very buggy.
What is your experience? Should I get iTunes Match now?

Hi,
The same problems exist regarding matching.
However, I have a large and varied collection of music, sourced from CD rips, LP conversions, MP3's bought from other sources such as Amazon and a large number Itunes store purchases.
My upload percentage is 21.5% with 60% match & 18.5% itunes store purchases.
Everything has not been plain sailing i.e. match process not completing or incomplete downloaded tracks. At present the match process is working exceedingly well for me but I have another issue regarding system being tied up with something working in background. The problem with downloads was solved by disabling simultanious downloads.
I would say that 99% of the matches have been OK apart from one CD being matched with a dubious copy of the same recording - LP & surface noise!!
I have mis-matches of mono / alternative versions on a few occasions e.g. The Byrds "Turn Turn Turn" has an alternative version of a song matched with the original.
I still have a large amount of matched music to listen to so I don't know what is lurking in the background.
I would recommend imatch but with the big caveat regarding the issues raised here.

  • I have paid for itunes match and have now lost all my music of my iphone except what I paid for from itunes, 964 songs gone not at all happy.  Can anyone help

I have paid for itunes match and have now lost all my music off my iphone except what I paid for from itunes, 964 songs gone into the cloud. Can anyone help please?

Enabling iTunes Match does not delete music from your computer. Why do you think it is now not in the iTunes library if it was before? If all of your music was in the iTunes library then it is also now in the cloud if iTunes has completed it's scan and all the music meets the match requirements. Enable the iCloud Status column in the iTunes browser by switching to Song view and pulling down View > View Options. Select iCloud Status then close the small window. Sort on the new column. Your music should be listed as "purchased," "matched" and "uploaded." Some tracks may be "ineligible." Post back and let us know.

  • I used the iTunes match workaround and now want to start over, but I am being told I have exceeded the limit even though I completely cleared the match cloud, mindful of the 1000-delete-at-a-time limit....what should I do?

I have over 25k songs in iTunes. I originally tried the "create a second library" solution. I reduced to less than 25k songs and successfully ran iTunes match. Then I discovered the limitations of the second library solution regarding adding more music, managing playlists, and turning back on my main library and being greeted with all sorts of problems.
So, I created a blank library, ran iTunes match, and its showed me all of my files in the cloud that had been matched or uploaded. I deleted all of the files, mindful of the 1000 file limit per delete. I have confirmed I have now deleted them all. An iTunes match update says I have no files in the cloud. Perfect.
I reduced my library again, this time using the superior method of just changing the files I do not want to match to voice memos. That is done. I have less than 25 k songs.
I waited 2 days and ran match again. Yikes. It did not let me match or upload anything, and every music files's cloud status just says "exceeded limit," despite the fact that my cloud is devoid of music and I have no access to any music via match.
I am in a limbo where I have nothing in the cloud from match, but I can't add anything because match says I exceeded my limit.
I emailed customer support, and got back a useless email linking me to a very general article about iTunes match. I called customer service and they said this was something the iTunes store people would need to address, and they can only be contacted by email. Sigh . . . .
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Have you confirmed that you successfull purged iTunes Match by also looking on an iOS device?  If so, keep in mind that Apple's servers may be experiencing a heavy load right now.  They just added about 19 countries to the service and I've read a few accounts this morning that suggests all's not running perfectly right now.

  • ITunes Match: Smart Playlists now including videos that shouldn't be there

    Hi All,
Hopefully someone can assist me with this, as it properly doing my head in.
I am a big user of Smart Playlists in iTunes, which is brilliant with iTunes Match. However, I have a couple of smart playlists that I use all the time that I am having problems with. These two playlists are very similar so I will just use one as an example.
The criteria of this smart list is 1. Media Kind = Music, 2. Rating = less than one star, 3. Plays = less than 10. You may have figured out this is a playlist I use to listen to new music before I rate it.
So, here's the problem. On iTunes, this playlist is correct in that it only shows music, however, on my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, the playlists include some of my music videos which all have a start rating of 1 or higher. Of course, these music videos dont meet two of the smart playlists criteria; media kind and rating. Given that the playlist is correct within iTunes, I can only assume that this is an issue somewhere in iCloud as opposed to my local settings, but I don't know for sure.
Apart from just being a general annoyance, when trying to play these playlists, as soon as a video turns up in a music shuffle, it then takes ages to buffer and often just causes the device to hang, requiring a reboot or similar.
Any suggestions guys and gals? Any help offered will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Stu

UPDATE: so i was looking through some more, and here's another issue: I bought James Blunts album many many years ago. If I look at the "matched" playlist it shows "Goodbye My Lover" which is track 4/11, the remaining 10 tracks are in the "purchased" playlist. Checking the info on "Goodbye My Lover" show that it is "Purchased AAC audio file"
I've also bought the AC/DC box set from iTunes, and some of those tracks are showing in the "uploaded" playlist!
In "View Options" i enabled iCloud status and it's just all over the place!  Music i've purchased (and subsequently added to iTunes from apple support allowing me to redownload purchases) are shown as "Uploaded" or "Matched", some songs from albums (imported) are matched and others uploaded. Parts of box sets are "uploaded", others are "matched" and others "purchased"...
what the?! I'm just confused! I'd like to use the option to upgrade my songs to the best quality (for my CD imports) and thought these playlists would help (actually a single button - "Upgrade" would be nice!) but they don't appear to be too accurate

  • I have given up on iTunes Match! But now how do I get my iPhone to sync old style?

After turning iTunes Match off on my Mac and iPhone I am now unable sync songs across to my phone using the usb cable. The iTunes sync panel shows how much space the music will take up on my iPhone but the sync doesn't actually copy it across
My Mac and iOS software is all up to date

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

  • ITunes Match seems to now be fixed for me

    Hi,
iTunes Match on my iMac stopped working about 10 days ago.  I would never get any error messages but the process would freeze, most commonly on step1, but on other steps at various times aswell.
I tried a lot of troubleshooting suggestions to try to get it to work.  I tried turning iTunes Match on and off, turning Genius on and off, booting up in safe mode, re-creating the iTunes library by following a support article, and trying iTunes Match on a new user account.  All without any success.
I then phoned AppleCare for a second time and they decided that it would be best to send my issue to the Engineering team and asked for my permission for them to access my AppleID to look for any corruption/issues.  As part of this I was given a new password for my AppleID to use going forward.
About 5 hours later I tried iTunes Match again and 'voila', it went through without any problems and again today it is still working.
I won't get to speak with AppleCare again until Tuesday but it would appear that my AppleID was corrupt in some way and the only solution was a fix that I couldn't apply at my end and needed to be done via support at AppleCare.
I hope that this may be a solution for others

  • HT4915 What to do with itunes match when your ipad/iphone does not have any more internal storage available?

I have just subscribed to itunes match. But now my ipad/iphone memory is full because every songs played from icloud is downloaded in the devise. If I clean the memory from setting/storage/music I cannot play any more the songs already played even if they are still in the music library. I need help please.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can delete any unwanted tunes you have downloaded from iTunes match by swiping them and tapping the delete button on your device. You can also delete this way to delete whole albums or artists.

  • I tried to set up two users on one computer, now I can't make iTunes match work for either.

Lots of people seem to be having multiples user problems on iTunes, but I can't find a solution to mine so please help.
I got a new iMac.  Switched it on.  Connected to iTunes Match - all fine and dandy.
After a couple of weeks I decided I should follow Apple's advice and set up a separate user account on the imac for my wife.  I connected to iTunes match using her user name and down loaded a bunch of her favourite music.
Naive fool that I was, I didn't realise I had fallen into Apple's moronic multi-user trap. Only one user on one computer can use it????  Why???
I thought that it was me being stupid so I switched everything off - including iTunes Match.  Now nothing works.
If I log on with my iTunes ID and try to switch on iTunes Match it asks me if I want to add this computer, and then gives me the "This computer is already associated with an Apple ID - you can't use it for 90 days" message.
If I use my wife's iTunes ID, it asks her if she would like to subscribe for £21.99 a year.
The exact same thing happens whether I sign into the computer itself with my account or hers.
This is awe inspringly annoying.  Please tell me how to fix this.
    thanks.

At this time there is no "solution." You'll simply have to wait the 90 days to re-enable iTunes Match.
For now here is my suggestion. In your User Account, in OS X, sign out of whatever iTunes Store account you are signed in with. Then sign in with your store account and leave it at that. Now sign out of your OS X User Account, sign into your wife's OS X User Account and sign into the iTunes Store with her Apple ID (if necessary sign out of the account first).
Now, you can go back to your OS X User Account and attempt to enable iTunes Match. You will probably get the "wait 90 days" message. If so leave it, mark your calendar, and wait for the 90 days to expire. You can try contacting iTunes Store support at <https://expresslane.apple.com> if you wish, but I really do not know how useful that will be.
Incidentally, you get the message to pay for the service when trying to enable it on your wife's Apple ID because the service has not been purchased using that Apple ID. iTunes Match is designed to be a single-user service that is never signed out of and is associated with one, and only one, Apple ID and a regional store.

  • After I download a 256 kbps song using ITunes Match, how do I get it to play on my computer at the higher bit rate once I turn ITunes Match off again?

After I download a 256 kbps song from the cloud using ITunes Match, how do I get it to play on my computer once I turn ITunes Match off again? I have been using ITunes Match for awhile now to increase the bit rate on songs to 256 kbps.  Once I download the songs at the new bit rate, I turn off Match because I want to eliminate duplicates. Usually there is no problem. This time, however, 278 of my songs lost their file association and were unplayable unless I locate the song files within my computer.  These are songs purchased from Amazon.  In order to play them again in ITunes (Match is now off), I must locate each song file individually (I've tried to do it in bulk but have not succeeded) but now the bit rate has returned to the lower number BEFORE I matched the song.  I should have never used Match in the first place. Any ideas, anyone?

I discovered that the NEW 256 bit file does reside on my computer, in the ITunes files (My Music/ITunes/ITunes Media/Music.  So I can bring the songs back as 256 kbps, and I have been successful now at locating more than one file at a time, by clicking on the "find other missing files" tab in the popup window.  Previously, I'd been going back to my Amazon files, and not only was I unable to bring back a 256 version, but the popup window would not locate similar files.  So while I wish ITunes Match would automatically associate the ITunes Match file, at least I can retrive the file association without hours and hours of work.

  • ITunes Web-Based or iTunes Match?

I'm sorry if this is not in the correct place. I searched for about an hour and did not find anything.
I have a really old ipod classic that i'm wanting to replace. My main issue in deciding between itunes and something like Amazon, is while I'm an Android user, I think music is best on an ipod, but I do not want to have to rely on iTunes.
We do not load iTunes on our workstations, and I have a seven year old workstation in our IT closet hanging onto its last breath just to run itunes. So here are my questions:
    1) Will the new itunes that i'm hearing about be web-based at all? I'm wanting to download music from my ipad or ipod from the store, and just have it available in itunes. But i DO NOT want to have to buy music or upload it through iTunes?
    2) Will iTunes Match in a way fix this? If i purchase iTunes match, can I now control all my music through match, or will i still have to have iTunes?
    3) I'm wanting a wifi ipod, but I really don't care for the ipod touch, mainly because it's like the iphone without the phone part. Are any other ipods wifi where I could purchase music through a wifi connect?
Please help. I'd love to stay with ipods, but like many people, i'm not wanting to hang onto iTunes, and i'd rather manage my music in the cloud in a web-based itunes or perhaps if itunes match could do this.
thanks in advance for your help!!
    Jason

I appreciate your professional and kind response, but alot of people feel that way. Especially the millions of people like me that like some of apples products, but feel that other devices might meet their needs better, or they might be in a work environment where PC or Android is more the norm.
Most other software is available web-based and I would have just thought this would have been a natural progression.
iTunes is a very resource heavy product, and people that enjoy the ipod and the benefits of iTunes, shouldn't be locked into having to download the huge program.
    Thanks again for your response.

  • Why do I have my husband's songs in iTunes Match?

I've just signed up for an iTunes Match account and now I can see all my husband's music in the Cloud.
We have separate iTunes accounts and separate Apple IDs. The only thing I can think of is that we have at some stage shared our iTunes libraries - even though his Mac hasn't been on since I signed up to iTunes Match.
This isn't exactly a problem (though I now have to trawl through all his weird music LOL) - but I AM curious as to why this happens. Any ideas?

No - sorry, my bad, I wasn't clear.  I'm talking about tracks that I've never had in my library which he has in his. We have separate iTunes accounts (though they share the same credit card).
I have only just (in the last 48 hours) signed up for an iTunes Match account.
When I checked my music on the Mac in iTunes, I could see many tracks I've never had in my library but I know he does - such as the kids' music he uses for work.  The tracks all have the symbol beside them which indicates they're in the Cloud. I'm just puzzled that my iTunes account would know what he has in his library and make it available to me, when his computer is not even switched on!
It's true that when we both have our Macs on, we share our respective iTunes libraries via the home wifi connection. Is iTunes somehow remembering that, even though we're not sharing at the time?
Like I said, it's not really a problem (except of course now I have even more stuff to scroll through in my library LOL!) - but I'm confused.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Sncing non iTunes Match songs to iPad

I assume that this can't be done.  I have a four hour program I record every Saturday night and it is then loaded into a playlist.  Becuase it is over the 200 meg limit of songs it is not uploaded to iTunes Match.  I have not found a way to sync that playlist to the iPad.  Does anyone know if there is a solution or is this a feature that was not added to iTunes Match?  Right now it seems that tunes that will sync on the iPad are only in the cloud.  This seems to be a deal breaker for me since I almost always want to hear this program more then I do my tunes.

There is a way round this, although I haven't done it myself yet.
If you tell iTunes that it is a podcast or an audiobook then it won't try to match it, and I believe you will be able to sync it as before.
However, you need to change the type before adding it to iTunes. This can be done by using an App like Subler.
Maybe someone who has done this themselves may be able to give some more details.

  • I cancelled iTunes match and all my imported music has disappeared. How do I get it back. Please !!!

    Hi,
When I subscribed to iTunes match, it moved all my imported songs (i.e. songs from cds that I owned) into the cloud. I finally got fed up of this, and cancelled my iTunes match subscription, and now all my imported songs have disappeared !! Can someone please help me get them back !!!
    Thanks,

Since going to match its no longer possible to back up as far as I can see, so any advice you can offer on what I should do if I want to cancel would be greatly received.
You need to import tracks to your computer in order to add them to match. You should back up those tracks before deleting them from your main computer
Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
As you did not keep the originals on your computer, I suggest that you create a new library on the external drive and download them. You would need to do this in any event if you decided not to renew match. Use this library to manage your music in the cloud - new tracks added will be available in the cloud once match completes it's scan of your library.

  • HT204406 I have some songs that are in Itunes Match limbo what can I do to fix it?

I am going to try not to get too wordy here, but bear with me:
I had an album which I bought from another website because itunes didnt have the artist in the itunes store. The files I received from this purchase were ALAC, about half the songs were uploaded to itunes match, while the other half were stuck on "waiting". After telling itunes to update itunes match several times via the menu I got frustrated that it wasn't uploading the "waiting" tracks, so I proceded onto a tactic I have had success with in the past. I created AAC versions of the song (I used Itunes to do this) and then removed the ALAC files from my itunes library. I then disabled itunes match and subsequently reenabled it. It now says the AAC copies cant be uploaded because they are marked as duplicates, however if I get on a device like my ipad I can't download these tracks because they have never actually been uploaded. I am unsure why itunes considers them duplicates when no other copies currently exist in itunes, or in the cloud. Does anyone know how to clear this up?

    update:
I dont know what I did specifically that worked, but I kept deleting the items from my library, and re-adding them and updating itunes match, etc... and at one point after updating itunes match instead of the duplicate Icon they showed a cloud with an x indicating they had been removed from itunes match. I right clicked on them at this point and clicked add to icloud at which point they were uploaded to itunes match and are now visible from other devices.
