Is iTunes match worth the money?

?

Well let me go over the list again, in order to see if I can replicate some of your problems or have come across them.
1. Smart Playlists based on play count or play date/time will no longer work.
-Me, I am just a music lover, I dont care about play/date time, play count etc, I have never checked play count and couldnt care if smart playlists or these features worked or not. So, personal case for you. No big deal to me. Most of my friends and family dont even know what a smart playlist is. lol
2. Playlist order doesnt work.
-I have been using Match for a while and have not been able to replicate this problem at all. Every playlist I have ever created, even a 667 song playlist, has always stayed in the exact order I created. Personal problem for you. No problem for me.
3. You state some of your songs simply wont play.
-Again that is very personal, it is highly dependent on exactly what songs are matched and uploaded to itunes.
In my case, I havent been able to play every last one of my thousands of songs, but I have not been able to replicate this problem, not once. All of my music has played flawlessly. Personal Problem for you. No problem for me.
4. Bowdlerized? LOL
- ???? Personal ?? LOL
5. Cellular Data needs to be disabled or you will incur incredible data charges.
Another personal problem, for me, I have UNLIMITED DATA plan with AT&T, and since owning match
even my last months usage did not go over 800 MB's. Before Match I was at about 540 MB's per month. The trick is to download the majority of the stuff on your wifi, if you are going to spendign a lot of time downloading. Than download the odds and ends on 3g. So,I did incur very small increase in the grand scope of things, yet I still keep my 3G always enabled on my ios devices. Personal problem for you. Me, no problem at all.
6. Dont disable cellular data. Just use it sparingly.
7. as far as some songs not playing without wifi, still never happened to me not to mention there ie no way to tell if that song has been hard dowloaded to your phone. the screenshot showw airplane mode, clickibg on a song withkut an internet connection will un doubtly create that error if it has not been hard downloaded. remember, this is not a streaming service this is a store and download service. personal problek for you. not for me.
8. You say that you will be spending all your time deleting and trying to fix things on your device.
i highly disagree with this, because for me PERSONALY i have thoroughly enjoyed having the ability to download and/or delere my songs on my phone anywhere and everywhere. it works great for me. again a personal problem.
i think i can stop here bc i think i provedcmy point. my point is some people will be happy with the service and soke will be dissapointed. it is highly unique and personal experience. bob.os you my friend are a power user that expectsca highly refined service which i understand and agree with. for a guy like me that just wants to listen to alice in chains at work and doesnt care about anything but havibg music in the cloud that works, thats me.
ps- i dont think i wouldve posted this if you had included a positive side of match in your list.

i have purchased itunes match but the cloud will not load on my ipad 4.it works on my iphone 5 & it originally worked on my ipad.the only music that will show up is stuff that i bought from the itunes store.any ideas on how to get this to work?

On the MBP, in iTunes, switch to Song view and enable the iCloud Status column by pulling down View > View options and selecting the option for "iCloud Status." Close the small window. Look for any tracks that have a status of "waiting." If you see several of them disable iTunes Match while holding down the Option key. Quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, then open it again and turn iTM back on. Let it compelete the scan. Wait until all tracks that are "waiting" have a status of either "matched" or "uploaded."
On the iPad, turn off iTunes Match then launch the Music app and let the contents clear out. Power cycle the iPad for good measure, then re-enable the service once all the tracks in iTunes have been processed.

  • HT4913 If the music library on my iPhone will be deleted when I enable iTunes Match, does that mean that I will not be able to access that music library when I temporarily turn off iTunes Match on the iPhone, e.g., when on the subway & can't connect to Ma

I have subscribed to iTunes Match and have employed it to listen to music on my Macbook Air and iMac.  On these devices it seems to operate by streaming music to the device rather than deleting the device's current iTunes library and downloading songs as they are played from iTunes Match. Not so on the iPhone as far as I can tell. Consequently, to date I have not activated iTunes Match on my iPhone 4S.  I presently have 40-50GB's of music on my iPhone, sync'd from my iTunes music library on my Macbook Air.  I am concerned that if I enable iTunes Match on my iPhone I will lose the music library already on my iPhone, as Apple seems to be representing that once iTunes Match is enabled on the iPhone the current music library, carefully compiled, will be gone from the iPhone forever (unless I later re-sync it from the iTunes library on my laptop), that it will be deleted.  Although this would free up a lot of space on my iPhone, I bought the 64GB phone just so that I could keep a lot of music on it and accessible at all times.  I am concerned that in certain instances, say if I am in the subway and want to listen to music on my iPhone but  don't have internet access below ground, that I won't have much music to listen to, only those songs previously played and thus downloaded onto the phone from iMatch, presenting me witrh a rather limited choice of music to play instead of the 40-50GB's I now have to choose from. Apple seems to have presented me with the choice of the lesser of 2 evils: i) enable iTunes Match and lose the music library already on the iPhone in exchange for access to iTunes Match and a greater number of songs than I can fit onto the phone (my library exceeds the phone's capacity) when a Cloud connection is available or ii) don't enable iTunes match and limit myself to only those songs, a considerable portion of my library to be sure but not all of it, that I can fit in the phone's storage space, i.e., the 40-50 GB's I have on there now.  If I choose the latter course, each time I purchase an album I'll have to delete another album to make room for it on the phone.  Apple thus offers me a sort of Hobson's choice, bad all the way around.  Do I have this right? The Apple techs I've spoken to don't seem to have a handle on the "deletion" aspect of enabling iTunes Match on the iPhone.   Right now, I'm too scared of "losing" my iPhone music library to enable iTunes Match on the iPhone. [Possible work-around, albeit a pain in the ***: I suppose that I can enable iTunes Match on the iPhone and spend the next couple of weeks 24/7 downloading songs from my iTunes Match library back onto the phone to replace at least some of those deleted when Match was enabled, thereby rebuilding a proxy library on the phone itself to play when I'm stuck in a tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan while maintaining access to thee larger iTunes Match library, more music than my phone will hold, once we come back into the light and my Cloud connection is restored.] Comments, suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

  • An older style Ipod has over 10,000 songs on it.  The original computer that contained these songs on itunes has since been replaced.  Can itunes/match get the songs from this ipod to store in match and then put on new computer/itunes?

Can this new service of itunes/match allow you to retrieve songs from an older style ipod, store them in match, and then download them onto a new computer/itunes?  The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.  There were alot of songs on there and now I can't get the songs onto my new computer.  Can match work from ipod > match > computer?

Only if it is an iPod touch that you can turn on iTunes Match.
The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.
Did you make a backup of all the  important files on this computer before it broke down?
    Try this -> http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
Then backup your computer after you recover the items.

  • How can it that half of my songs are matched in iTunes Match where the other songs from the same CD (ripped by Itunes) are not matched but uploaded?

I started with ITunes Match a few days ago (I have the latest versions of all OS's etc)
    - The whole process took more then two days to complete for the first time.
    - Half of my songs are matched in iTunes Match where the other songs most of the time from the same CD (most ripped by ITunes) are not matched but uploaded(?)
    - Complete CD's are not recognized, they are however available in the ITunes store (songs in my library not available in ITunes are an exception).
    - The match part overall is less then 50%, which is a complete disappointment.....
    - When I activate ITunes Match on my IPod, IPhone and IPad the art-work does not load or only partly.
    - Loading songs on iOS is extremely slow... and that is definitely not due to my internal network.
    - ICloud (ITunes Match) on the apple TV stops working after every 15 seconds because it losses connection to the ITunes server....
I am a real Apple fan for the last decade but what a disappointment is this......before I started with ITunes Match everything worked seamlessly.

The number of Songs that 'matched' is simply a function of the current iTunes Match service process.  It is not unusual to have multiple Songs in an otherwise perfectly matched album be uploaded - often it is very possible to find the album in the iTunes Store.
The Artwork does tend to reappear for many over a few days / weeks - however, if your library backup has all Artwork present it would be wise to save the Album Art separately and reapply to Albums not showing art work in the library grid view.
Many of the other performance issues you mention are not typical - though during the past working week or so the Apple Infrastructure has been very heavily loaded with multiples countries having service go-live symultaneously.

  • ITunes Match and the magical disappearing explicit tags

So, after doing a spring (winter?) clean of my iTunes library today, there seems to be a bit of tension between iTunes Match and Explicit tags on tracks.
I'm obsessive with my library and add lyrics via Get Lyrical, use a script to search my iTunes library for specific profanities that outputs them into a playlist then use MetaX to tag all songs in that playlist with the explicit tag.  As a student of radio, sometimes, it's just easier to check for tags that drive through yrics for profanity and songs that are airable.
However, for whatever reason, as soon as iTunes Match updates the library with the server, all explicit tags are removed except for those that are downloaded from the store with the tags already added (which is an annoyance in itself because Apple see fit to mark an entire album as explicit even if a specific track is clean and safe for air).  Removing the explicit tags will find it readded after the iCloud sync.
All other elements of manual metadata are safe; purchase date, release date, copyright.  It just doesn't like explicit tags - hoping it'll get fixed in a future update.

My library has just over 10,000 songs in it.  95% came from my CD's that I ripped myself, plus some that I recorded directly to the computer from cassette or record (yes, I actually did that!).   I recently subscribed to iTunes match and other than about 100 songs, they all matched correctly.  I was very meticuous about my tagging so my library was very clean.  Not sure if that matters as I understand they use a digital matching scheme rather than based on tagging, but regardless, I am very pleased with the final result.

  • Is the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS worth the money for Final Cut Express?

    Hi,
I'm considering a new iMac 24, but not sure if the speedier on is worth the money.
Currently I use a MacBook Pro 2.2 for Final Cut Express with a 23" cinema (mostly DV, some HD) and that works okay, but won't play back in real time when I composit video.
Anybody know if the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS will help in that area?
    Thanks,
    KC

The speedier video card is great for 3D stuff, but it won't matter a wink for Final Cut Express, which barely makes use of the video card.
Keep in mind that Final Cut is using the CPU, not video card, to perform the editing, decoding, and encoding of the video. The only time the video card comes into play is during playback of the video, and any of the video options available for iMacs will handle that just fine.
When you composite video, the hard-disk throughput will start to come into play. The dinky 5400 RPM disk in your laptop will adversely affect the performance of that.

    SUBJECTS
Enterprise Resource Planning Systems: This unit allows students to develop an appreciation of the impact of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems on businesses and to understand the issues involved in the design, implementation and maintenance of these systems.  Students also develop practical skills in the use of SAP R/3 as an example of an Enterprise Resource Planning System.
Business Process Engineering: the strategic and organisational issues of process and workflow management and the use of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPs) to realise efficient processes.  The subject describes the major strategic approaches, process modelling techniques, procedure models and the current possibilities offered by SAP R/3 as an example of ERPs software that students are likely to encounter in identifying, reorganising and implementing processes in a typical business organisation.
Management Information Technology: a framework for the management of information technology. Management issues may include: the strategic use of information technology; information technology architectures; information systems planning; information technology investments; and security and privacy and outsourcing.
Supply Chain and Logistics Management: the concept of supply chain management in the context of movement and storage of components and goods in the spheres of material management, physical distribution and transport and its practical business application.
Organisation Change Management: organisational design; organisational changes processes and organisational development and change; and skills and competencies in the diagnostic processes for assessing the need for change and the development, implementation and evaluation of change strategies at all organisational levels.

Strategic Use of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems:  the strategic features of ERP systems and how these features can be utilised within an implementation.  Many large organisations have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning Systems to integrate their business processes and are now attempting to gain further benefits by utilising the strategic features of these systems such as supply chain optimisation, customer relationship management, and data warehousing.

I did my masters in just computer sciences, but if I had something like this available I would have gone for it. But there are a couple of factors to consider. One is will there be good campus recruitments and what is the rate absorption of candidates for this course. Second question, do I really want to persue this field as my career. ERP is the concept that revolves around the business. So you should have an aptitude for learning how a business operates and functions.
The course curriculum looks good particularly because it includes topics on Supply Chain Management and Business Process Engineering which are relatively new.
Another good aspect of it is that it is giving this course with SAP as an example tool. SAP is the leading ERP software company(and many more products are added to its portifolio now).
Is it worth the money? That you have to decide. You can do a regular masters in computer science, but get a job in a company that trains you in SAP, and learn everything on the job or take some traning from SAP training academies and then start on job. That is one option. But if you want to persue a career in building products in the ERP/SCM areas, then a formal education in that area will be useful. But if you are just interested in implementing existing products then it is not a must.
Hope I gave you some information that is useful. Please don't forget to reward appropriately for helpful answers and close when completely answered.

  • Is it possible to organize your music in iTunes Match into the same playlists on your iPhone?

I tried using iTunes Match, but the music is completely unorganized on my phone when I activate it.  Can I access my iTunes Match music in the same playlists as they are on my iPhone?  How?  Thanks gang!!!!

    Yes.

Try posting in the iTunes Match forum, you'll probably find more knowledgeable folks there.  iTunes Match is a different service from iCloud.

  • IPad or Mac? which is better worth the money?

iPad or Mac? which one is better worth the money, if mac, which is the cheapest but still gives you all the good apps and qualities? I would use it alot, and i already have an iouch so would the ipad be worth it? im a teenager so i would use these things alot, and i need some features to help with school and just having fun!!

iPad is not a substitute for a Mac. It's more like a companion to a Mac.
In desktops, Mac mini should be sufficient and is the only comparable Mac in terms of price, but you need to add a monitor, keyboard.
In laptops, consider the MacBook Air for its portability, and the MacBook Pro for more options in terms of processing and screen size.
Visit an Apple Store (the physical kind). The staff is very helpful and will assist ou in making a decision.

I've tried the new iWork (on a friend's new MacBook Pro) and feel very disappointed. I'm gonna stick with my old '09 version. It appears to have lost utility, and is now easily surpassed by Word 07. Dear Apple, from a veteran user: In your rush to market, you have dropped the basket on this one! Is a new version that's worth the money and hype coming?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
A lot of users have complained about the lack of features of the new iWork version. However, I'm sure Apple will add features with more updates in the future, like with Final Cut Pro X. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6049?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Until then, you can carry on using iWork '09, or try Microsoft Office 2011 or even LibreOffice, which is free and open-source

Unless you have an Internet connection you cannot access iCloud. You can download your music from iCloud to store permanently on your iPhone, but only when you have an Internet connection to do so.

HDTV Tuner Cards? Is there one that it is worth the money?

All Adobe Trial versions are full versions that allows you do everything with it including you also get updates for it.  The only limitation is TIME.  you only get 30 days to do whatever you want to do so if you are a photographer then you will need to buy the full version if you want to continue doing what you like doing most.  Amazon has the best price/deal I have seen so far.
    Good luck.
