Is iTunes needed with new SIM card?

Is it necessary to sync with iTunes before a new SIM card works in an iPad? I'm just thinking about what to do if I got a SIM card while abroad for roaming and obviously wouldn't have a computer to sync with. Thanks.

Thanks for the welcome and reply. I suppose another question along the same lines is if I swap over SIM cards I have already registered and used with different providers, does that also require a sync with iTunes?
For example, I live in Belfast and am in Dublin quite regularly. Although the iPad is not yet officially available in Ireland (Republic of), it is here in the North and I will be trying to get a something that will let me roam cheaply and easily in both places.
I just read a question and answer from Apple and Mossberg regarding your question. Apparently, SOMETIMES, you have to connect to iTunes if you switch SIM cards. They gave no clarity as to what may or may not require you connect to iTunes.
I think, from what I've read, you have to connect the first time, but you may not have to do so in subsequent switches.

i did not know that it was different from normal writing where one might use all caps to cull the attention of the public---as in a newspaper advertisement selling an item and the caps would be intended to make the ad stand out from other advertisements.  i'm old school i guess but im learning & i thank you.
Did not intentionally try to yell at the readers.  Hope i didn't wake anyone up!!!  Again, my apology.  Thanx.

  • New iPhone with new SIM card - Retrieving data

My iPhone was stolen, so I had to buy a new one, so it's also a new SIM card. When I connected to iTunes, I thought it would ask me if I wanted to restore with my previous backed up data which would have also included all my contacts, notes, pictures, etc. It didn't. Is there any way to retrieve the backed up data from my old phone and sync it to my new phone?

Not sure why it didn't ask you to restore from a backup.
Plug in and open iTunes. Click on the iPhone under DEVICES. Click Restore. Let it restore to factory settings, and then wait for iTunes to prompt if you want to "Set Up as New iPhone" or "Restore from Backup."

  • Help! - iPhone 2g will not activate with new sim card

I have been given an iPhone 2g for my son. Have activated a new sim card as 02 said this was the reason I could not activate on iTunes. Still cannot get the phone activated. I have reset all settings so am now lost as to what to do next!

I have tried that but the phone is not being recognised when I connect it to iTunes. I keep getting a message on the phone saying "new sim detected - please connect to iTunes". When I connect to iTunes I get the message "unable to activate - please try later - disconnect the phone" - very, very, frustrating. Didn't have any problems at all when my older son took over my iPhone 3G and put a 3 sim in it (after being unlocked).

  • How to sign in blackberry with new SIM card

I got a new SIM card and put it into my Blackberry Bold. It asked for my ID password. Which I keyed in. It did not accept it. I then was adviced to change this online and reset the password. I did this but it only worked on my laptop and not on the phone. Please can anyone help as I have only one attempt to sign in. Can not access anything else on my phone. Can you over ride this process? I was not told about this by the service provider when I asked for a new SIM card.

        Hello zorin!
I can understand your desire to use the phone you recently purchased on the network in France! All of our 4G LTE phones are automatically unlocked for international use. However, they are designed primarily for use on the Verizon network, and it is possible that they will not work to their top performance capabilities on another network.
You can reach out to HTC to find out if there are any other options for getting your device to work bettery in France. HTC can be reached at 866-449-8358.
    Thank you,

  • Newly-unlocked iPhone 4 will not activate with new sim card

I recently bought a used iPhone 4 from a friend and brought it with me to Cambodia. The friend initited a request to AT&T to unlock the phone so I could use it, and the request was granted by AT&T. She forwarded me the email with instructions, but I have not been able to successfully complete the unlock. The instructions say:
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
Ensure a SIM card is inserted into your iPhone.
Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.
When I try this, it refuses to recognize that there is a SIM card installed.
The instructions don't say it has be any particular SIM card, just "a SIM card" so I'm using my local SIM. I also tried a second SIM with the same result.
Any ideas why this isn't working or what I should try next?

I can't even get to an option that asks me that question. I don't want any of the data on the phone now, as that is my friend's data, but I can't even get to a place where I can delete her data or anything else.
All I get is the "activation" screen options (choose language, country, wifi network) and then the error message that "Activation Failed - please insert a SIM card."
I'm not sure if that clarifies exactly what you're asking, My apologies if it doesn't, and try asking me again.

  • Need a new sim card for Virgin Mobile 5S

We purchased a phone on ebay for a Virgin Mobile plan and it didn't include the SIM card.  I went to the apple store and they gave me a Sprint Card SIMGLW406C and took it and tried to activate it and it won't work.  I called Virgin and they said I needed a SIMGLW416C.  I called the apple store again and they told me the only VM/Boost/Sprint card they have is a SIMGLW426C.  Will that work in the phone to activate it?

If not on Virgin, it could work with other compatible providers, assuming the device is unlocked. I'm sure you got a better price on eBay than you'd get buying it from Virgin unsubsidized, but you could get a refund from the seller to put towards a Virgin purchase, or ask the seller for advice. You could also message the sellers of the other SIMs and get their advice. If you had something in writing that their SIM would work one way or another, I'm sure you'd be entitled to return that as well.
I've never heard of being able to start mobile service without them wanting your device IMEI and to have you buy a phone or SIM from them.

  • Ipad Air 2 cellular/Wifi - With new sim card installed keeps on saying NO SIM

I got new ipad air 2 - installed Carrier sim card, Ipad keeps on saying no sim found  "NO SIM"
On call with Apple technicians this problem was resolved by resetting the network settings, but today again its showing NO SIM
Has anyone else encountered this problem

Chiming in from the US, it seems that a lot more of us are having this issue as well lately. My iPad has worked well under 3 OSs and I have never seen that NO SIM message until this week. I am running iOS 5 since it was released, but have not yet upgraded to iOS 5.0.1, and all of a sudden, I see that NO SIM message pretty much all the time.
I have never removed my SIM or had any trouble with 3G before this week. It's not a big problem for me since I don't use it very often at all - not even on a data plan now - but it's annoying and not what I paid for. And if it happens to my wife, she'll be in trouble.
Apple folks, has there been any official acknoeldgement for this issue, and has it been properly elevated so it will be addressed? There are quite a few threads on this out there.

  • Need a new SIM card tray and cover for Nokia Lumia...

I just got a Nokia Lumia 920 in white and when I tried to open the SIM card tray to put in my SIM card, the tray went flying and I can't find it.  Does anyone know how to get a replacement tray?  I have a great phone that I can't use so I'm freaking out right now.  Nokia customer service said all parts are sold on Amazon.  Not true because this one is not.  Tried eBay and Google search to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated.

    @White920
As a new model parts will still be very scarce and one source was quoting me 3 week wait for a screen replacement.
It is quite true that one supplier does advertise SIM tray upon Amazon when available:http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0085LV7Y4

  • IPhone works great , Just have a new sim card installed

I read a lots of comments about the Iphone 4S . I had all the problems where it did work for a few minutes and tried everything . Main thing is you need a new sim card 128mb not the 64 . Do not use your old Sim card that you have on the Iphone 4 , Looks like it wares and does problems. I helped many friends where I am now at the Red Sea in our resort in Egypt and thye had many problems but one main thing was the Sim Card.
Other than this no problems at all.
good Luck and hope that you like your Iphone 4S

No carrier "automatically" unlocks at end of contract - many won't do it at all, even if requested.  I don't know what your carrier's policy is since you didn't say what country you're in.
However, if I understand you correctly, you didn't change carriers so it doesn't matter if it was unlocked or not. Try the following steps, as needed:
    1. Reset phone - press both home and sleep/wake buttons for at least 19 seconds until the Apple logo appears
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
    3. Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
    4. Replace SIM card (don't care what Telstra says)
    5. Restore phone in iTunes as new, without using a backup
    6. Take phone to Apple.

  • How do I order a new SIM card?

I am overseas in America and I need a new SIM card as soon as possible. I am unable to activate my phone without it. I was wondering how much it would cost to ship out a SIM card.

EE don't deliver overseas. You'll have to get a pal to do it.

    Thanks so much.

Sounds like you may be the owner of a new phone!  If you don't need or want it and no one claims it you probably can sell it. Check eBay to see what the going rate is.
You are to be commended for at least trying to find the owner. Many wouldn't.
    Best.

I lost my iphone, got a new sim card and put it in my boyfriend's old iphone. When I synch it in itunes it will only synch with his stuff and not mine. Any ideas how I can get it to synch with my itunes??

Are you using a Mac? It sounds like you are using his computer to sync to. If this is the case, then it will sync to all of his stuff unless a new user is created with your personal stuff on it.
When you want to sync your iPhone to that computer, switch to your user first, and then everything will sync with your stuff. If he wants to hook up his iPhone to sync it, then he needs to switch back to his own username first.
