Is iWeb a substitute for Adobe Contribute
Someone developed a business website for me 12 years ago. For the past ten years I have been using Adobe Contribute to update/modify that website. However, once I installed OS 10.10 Yosemite, Contribute would crash upon opening. I contacted Adobe Contribute and was told Adobe Contribute is NOT compatible with Yosemite. There is no update from Adobe at this time. I need to update my business website however.
It is not clear to me if I can import my website into iWeb for updating and if so how to do that.
Or, alternatively, is there a simple application (non-Apple) I should use that is Yosemite compatible?
I am using an iMac 27 inch (2011), 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, OS 10.10.1
iWeb does not have any import facility, so no, you would not be able to import your site into iWeb - you would have to re-build it from scratch.
Also, iWeb is no longer supported or sold by Apple and this has been the case for over 2 years now.
You would do better to look at other alternatives and if you already have a website, you need one that has an import facility.
If you have been using Adobe software, then the alternative that works with Yosemite and has import facilities is of course DreamWeaver.
Another alternative with import facilities is Flux V. Both have quite steep learning curves.
Your other alternative of course is to re-build the site from scratch, so you could look at EverWeb as an alternative there or if it is for a business site, then try the Content Management Systems, such as Drupal, Joomla or WordPress - these are better for business sites and you can allow membership too.

I would like to purchase Contribute. We currently do not have any of the creative suites or Contribute. How much does it cost to just get the single user for Adobe Contribute CS5? And how do I purchase that?
I think it's just a little over $200 if you don't have an older version to upgrade. Around $100 if you do.
You can get it at www.adobe.com/products/contribute.html.
Click the "buy" button (top right of the page) then select "full" next to where it says "I want to buy". Add it to your cart (at that point you should get the exact price). -
What is a good "free" substitute for Adobe Flash Player? I need this for photos to be developed.

You cannot substitute another app for Flash because it is proprietary technology. Apple is adamant about keeping Flash out of their phones and tablets, hence why you will not find it in the App Store. If you want to be able to use Flash on-the-go, consider purchasing an Android device.
Doesn't matter at this point. Android 4.0.3 is the last OS he'll have if he wants flash. Adobe has already stopped development for their mobile flash player. -
Making a Template for Adobe Contribute - without Dreamweaver
Given the task of making a web page that must exhibit regions editable with Adobe Contribute CS5, and having only a plain text editor (not Dreamweaver), exactly what needs to be done to the associated XHTML file? For example:
1. Does the XHTML file need to be named with an extension other than ".html"?
2. When denoting an editable region within the XHTML, what is the exact syntax of the "begin editable" and "end editable" tags?
3. Is a CSS file referenced within the XHTML in the typical fashion, or must something special be done to reference a CSS file?
Are there other changes that need to be made to an XHTML file in order for it to work properly with Adobe Cintribute CS5?
Thank you in advance for your helpful responses.

The 'child' page can be named with any extension.
2. When denoting an editable region within the XHTML, what is the exact syntax of the "begin editable" and "end editable" tags?
<!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="editable_region_name" -->
<!-- InstanceEndEditable -->

It's all just HTML - and needs to work properly on the server. Nothing special needs to be done.

No.
I assume your client IS using Contribute.
But - a word of skepticism. This sounds like a project bound to fail. I know templates like the back of my hand (liver spots and all) and would hesitate to take it on.... -
Slideshow compatibility for Adobe Contribute?
Hello --
I know this isn't exactly the right forum but it appears there is not a Contribute forum.
I am almost done creating a website for a cllient using Dreamweaver. I used Fireworks to create two different slideshows - one simple using layers, the other using the slideshow create feature.
My client has now decided they want edit capability. They currently have Contribute however it is not able to edit either of my slideshows. Does anyone have any suggestions on slideshows & Contribute?
TIA
~christineHi Christine,
could it be you could use these?

Adobe Contribute v.6 for Mac keeps crashing
Hello,
I have Adobe Contribute v.6 for Mac and it keeps crashing. Here are the troubleshooting steps I have taken, none of which I have provided a permanent resolution.
1. Trashed the preferences and rebooted - did not help.
2. Uninstalled Contribute using the uninstaller. Reinstalled Contribute. The program launched successfully and worked for a little while, but is now crashing again. The application looks like it is going to open and goes to the first screen, but then it crashes.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated!
Thanks!Could you please attach the crash report file?

Message error from Adobe Indesign : Default font Substituted for missing do.
Hello,
Message error from Indesign : Default font substituted for missing font
I am currently using version "Adobe InDesign CS6 Middle East," which normally supports the Arabic language ...
The problem is that the characters display correctly and others not! Especially this "font" called "MunaPlain", this version was created in 1996. (on the Internet, I could not find a new version!)
According to research, test... i have found that Mac OS X Lion that causes this error!
My question is:
Is that I could uninstall Mac OS X Lion to return to an older version as MAC OS X Leopard?
Is there an update or plugin indesign for Arabic? (except ScribDoor, because in this case, it is useless)
Thank you!For questions regarding Adobe apps, it is probably really best to ask Adobe or use their forums:
http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa
I am amazed that an arabic font from 1996 would work correct anywhere today given the changes in technology that have occurred. Is it really not possible for you to use a modern Unicode Arabic font for your work? There are lots of them -- Apple gives you a half-dozen or so. And there is a list at
http://www.wazu.jp/gallery/Fonts_Arabic.html
Whether you can downgrade your os depends on your hardware. If it came new with 10.7 installed, then it is not possible. -
Adobe,
How about an update for my Contribute CS5? So I can use it on my MAC!Won't happen. CS5 is long done. If you need a compatible version, you need to upgrade.

Adobe Contribute CS3 Connection Error
I am trying to use Adobe Contribute CS3 Version 3.1 to connect our web server. I can use WS_FTP and WinSCP to connect to it fine. Our web server is running under CentOS 5.x. When I try to connect using the connection wizard in Contribute, I receving the following error:
Contribute cannot verify your connection information.
/tmp
Please contact your administrator for assistance.
I have tried both FTP and SFTP. Again, I can login, navigate to /tmp and upload, download, and delete files fine using WinSCP. Can someone let me know what Contribute is trying to do to verify the connection? Is there a log file? Any help is appreciated. When I first tried to connect to our web server, I received a similar error. What worked for me was getting rid of the folder designation when trying to connect in Contribute (in your case /tmp) and allowing users to have permissions to access all folders on the web server. I create Contribute roles to limit the users to specific folders.
I hope that helps.

XML Publisher Template Builder for Adobe Acrobat
Need a XML Publisher Template Builder for adobe acrobat as is available for word.
I did so.. however, publisher is not able to substitute xsl syntax by the actual value..
eg.
i had a <?X_PO_NUM?> in word (either using text field or manually writing this..) and i converted the word doc into pdf using third party s/w..
when i uploaded this template pdf with sample data file using xmlp admin repsonsibility, and tried to preview the output,
substitution is not happening..
the requirement here is, to have some input fields in final PDF output for which report-users should be able to type values in.
for which I assume initial template has to be in PDF itself..
any ideas or pointers will be much appreciated.. -

Firefox used to be the best, now its working against every piece of software i use in the publishing industry. Java is important, so is Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe contribute.
Maybe it is time to kick Firefox to the curb. Firefox is not getting better, it's getting worse. It freezes, it crashes, it's no longer compatible with major programs in the publishing industry.
AND, you guys never answer any of your users. I'm tired of Firefox freezing up. read your freaking forums. Your not making the internet better, I used to have such faith you. Thanks Mike!
