Is java 3D fast enough?

Hello everyone,
I was unsure whether I should use C++ or Java for a project of mine which will involve 3D. Upon reading a bit, Java doesn't seem to slow, but resources I found suggested that java 3d is quite slow, in comparison to other projects like GL4Java. However, this site is down and apparently what I did read is a bit out of date.
Can someone point me to a good discussion about what library should be used for opengl? Or give me the answer if this argument has been settled since a long time...
Thanks in advance,
Tom

messenger, according to your article as of 2002:
"The C++ version was fastest, the GL4Java implementation a little slower, and Java 3D about 2.5 times slower."
but then the author responds with a serious of "but..." "but..." "but..."

    When I power up my iPad Air the Apple Logo comes up like it should then the lock screen only comes up for a second or less so I can't swipe it fast enough to get to the home page. The lock screen just disappears. I have to hit the sleep/wake or home button to bring the lock screen back up so I can swipe it. Have others found this situation with the iPad Air. I have an iPad 2 and it does not happen at all. The Apple store checked it out. One rep said to me this is unusual and had a tech check it out and they said this is normal. If the iPad is suppose to be user friendly, why this extra step to get to the lock screen? Are other owners of the iPad Air having the same problem? If so, what have you done to correct it?

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • Is this external hard drive fast enough?

    Looking at this drive It is FW 800 and 7200 rpm.:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H0303VC/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0Nw&mco=MTczMTA1MDI
    Is there some other spec to look at or is it fast enough to edit directly off of?
    Thanks.

    Using what Macintosh with what version of FCP, and what camcorder?
    The drive is fine, but only for specific sequences and codecs.
    Help us out.
    Internal RAID drives from iStoragePro, Caldigit, and G-Tech are also good but tailored to the type of work you are doing that you need to identify.

  • Photoshop Elements 3 - how can I make it work fast enough for 4' x 6' art?

    I've had Photoshop Elements 3 for about 4 years and it does all I need to do with some art work, except that it slows to an unacceptable crawl when I work in large sizes, such as 300 dpi (or is it ppi?) at 4' by 6'.  I also use Fractal Painter 3 and need to use both of them.... I want to do artwork to be reproduced on canvas via giclee print, but presently, I'm told my work will only blow up to a size of 2' wide.   I have a Dell dimension 8300 Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2.99 Ghz. 1.50 GB of RAM; HOME EDITION vERSION 2002, Service Pack 3.  128 MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 Graphics Card.  I would so appreciate any help in how to make this computer run Photoshop Elements 3 fast enough and reliably at the larger file sizes.  Blessings and thanks for any help!   Oh, and I do use a Wacom tablet with it, in case that makes any difference.

    To increase editing spped for larger file sizes with high resolution , Go to Edit>Preferences>Performance and increase the Cache
    Levels value to maximum which is 8 .
    Setting a higher cache level improves performance by speeding redraw times.
    Refer this page to get some useful tips of how to increase performance of PSE. See if it makes any difference.

  • Would time capsule be a fast enough router?

    I have a imac desktop running safari and a windows laptop running windows xp(802.11g). My laptop is to slow running off of airport and Im not happy with airport as my only router. I need a router and a external hard drive. Would time capsule be a fast enough router for me?

    Time Capsule is just another Airport Extreme Base station with a hard drive (ok, that's slightly simplistic), so if the laptop can only connect at 'g' speeds, I wouldn't expect any difference from the Time Capsule.
    Do you have an Airport Base Station or are you sharing the Airport connection from your iMac? I'm not sure, but I'd think you'd get slower performance from the latter. If ABS, is the network configured as g-only or b/g compatible?
    Maybe there is something wrong with you laptop configuration.

  • Airport does not connect fast enough after sleep on Mac OS X Snow Leopard

    Ever since installing Snow Leopard, I have noticed that my Airport will not connect fast enough when I am waking from sleep. I sometimes have to wait upwards of 30 seconds after waking from sleep so Airport can connect and I can begin using the Internet. I notice that Airport says it is connected, but when I launch Safari, I get the "Not Connected to Internet" error message. I have tried removing the com.apple.airport.preferences.plist file to no avail. I have also tried Archiving and Installing and the issue is still there. Any ideas or fixes? Thanks.

    Those seem to happen a lot when you have stealth mode enabled (Security System Prefs, Firewall, Advanced). For me, they all seemed to be innocuous so I turned it off. I don't think this would affect your connectivity, though.

  • Is my Macbook Pro fast enough?

    I have a late 2008 17" Macbook Pro with 4G of RAM, and was wandering if it was fast enough to run PPRO CS 5. I have just moved from using Final Cut Express 8, to using PPRO CS5. I am a very experienced audio engineer, but am in no way a professional video editor, although I have done quite a bit of video editing in the past. I am a music person that has over the years fallin in love with video. Most of the past video projects I have done were in SD and not HD. I use an external drive with eSATA, and have not have any problems with video playback in the past, but the current projects I am working on are in HD video, and I am experiencing some playback issues.. The video plays back fine in any video player and in the timeline window, but in the source window in PPRO CS5 playback is very pixelated. It's playing in real time, and I know this because the audio is smooth, but the picture looks like the pixels are constantly moving around. Hard to describe! It exports fine. I burned a DVD and played it on my TV, and it looked good.
    I probably know the answer is a new computer, but any advise is appreciated!
    Thank you

    ......I am surprised no one mentioned that you can transcode your clips to a more edit friendly codecThat is what I, and many did, when we had machines like yours.
    cineform is one codec......there are many.
           Native footage is highly compressed and requires a powerful machine to edit natively. However, YOU CAN EDIT SUCCESSFULLY  using transcoded files.
          Best to have : system memory maxxed out, minimum 2 separate fast hard drives.........will not work well with just one.  So, a 7200 rpm onboard hdd for OS, programs, and pagefile. If no second onboard hdd bay,use eSATA external port to connect " dedicated" external 7,200 rpm hdd which would hold footage and project files. Then, place previews, and all cache files on C drive.
         If no high speed external port......still use what you have......Firewire 800,or, even USB2.....to connect that second drive. Will still be way better than only one drive.
           I had to start in this manner myself !!

    Unfortunately yes, but Snow Leopard is still a great OS in the meantime so don't rush in too quick if you really don't need to.

  • Current xserve raid speed rate not fast enough

    guys,
    my xserve raid having problem when i edit HD project 1920*1080, its ok when i edit, but when i view all 30 mins movie, its hang when play till 5 mins of the movie, and keep on hanging after that, why is that? is it because the setting of my xserve raid got problem? read n write speed not fast enough?
    help plzzzz

    Both the write cache ticks should be on, The allow host cache flushing should be off. The use steady streaming mode tick should be off also. (So the pattern of th ticks is: on, off, on, off)
    The stripes stting depends on the cache size of the disk. On disks with lower than 16 MB, the 8 stripes setting is right. On disks from 16MB cache you can use the 128 stripes setting (In general the 750 GB disks have 16 MB, the others have lower).

  • Time machine working well but I can't find backed up files fast enough?

    Time machine working well but I can't find backed up files fast enough. When I look in Time machine backups I'm looking in a folder and I can't remember what it was, but I go back in time and the finder goes from 98 files to 100 files, how do I find which 2 files were the ones deleted? Going back and forth from past to present is a pain! I need to figure out which file it was faster? Have any ideas?
    With the new "Find" feature it actually highlights what you are looking for such as in Safari. Does Time Machine have a feature to highlight the files/folders that were deleted really from the present?

    It sounds like you aren't looking for any file in particular, but notice a change in number of files and would like to know what changed rather than knowing that a specific file is now missing.
    that's a good point, and it appears that TM is not setup to describe the changes over time. If I recall correctly, it has a plug-in ability, so maybe somebody will fill in that void.

  • High Definition - is 802.11N Draft standard fast enough for streaming?

    My understanding, from what I've read, is that 802.11n draft standard is actually only running at 50% speed of the actual final 802.11n protocol that will be out in a couple of years.
    If Itunes starts selling HD content or I import an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc to Itunes, is the 802.11n fast enough to be able to stream this content to Apple tv? Has anyone tried this?
    Thanks!

    My understanding, from what I've read, is that
    802.11n draft standard is actually only running at
    50% speed of the actual final 802.11n protocol that
    will be out in a couple of years.
    No. No idea where you got that idea. Right now the Wi-Fi alliance is "certifying" 801.11n Draft 2.0 devices. It is called "draft" simply because it won't be formally approved until 2008, given the normal standardization schedules. Between draft and approved final there may be changes, but they are usually minor, so much so that sometimes a firmware update may do the job.
    If Itunes starts selling HD content or I import an
    HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc to Itunes, is the 802.11n fast
    enough to be able to stream this content to Apple tv?
    Has anyone tried this?
    First of all, don't expect iTunes to provide HD-DVD or Blue-Ray format files any times soon (I mean expect years before you see that). These are 1080p formats, which are NOT supported by the Apple TV. Apple TV does support content with a maximum resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels at 24 fps, which can be considered "720p" HD content, though not at the full cable frame rate.
    Yes, Apple TV can stream this content. I have converted several HD programs captured from ESPN (which broadcasts in 720p), converted them to H.264 at 1280x720x24fps using MPEGStreamClip (http://www.squared5.com/) and stream them to my AppleTV.

  • 6024E - Error 10846: Unable to retrieve data fast enough error?

    I am using a PCMCIA DAQ 6024E on a Dell Latitude C610 (1Ghz) - I'm trying to do Double buffered analog acquisition over 4 channels
    Whenever I try to run the application (VC++6) i get "Error 10846 - Unable to retrieve data from the backgound acquisition buffer fast enough..."
    I have tried the sample program "Double-Buffered Asynchronous Scanning in Microsoft Visual C++ with NI-DAQ" downloaded from the NI website - has the same result: Error 10846...
    I just need to sample 4 channels at 1kHz continuously, extracting the data every 250ms max - are the following settings sensible:
    i16 iChan = 0;
    i16 iNumChans = 4;
    u32 ulCount = 2000
    i16 iUnits = 0;
    f64 dSampRate = 4000.0;
    f64 d
    ScanRate = 1000.0;
    static i16 piBuffer[2000] = {0};
    static i16 piHalfBuffer[1000] = {0};
    Tried loads of different variations - as well as stopping all other apps running and removing everything from inside the acquisition loop - don't know what to try next. Can anyone help? Cheers!

    Hi,
    The error you are getting is due to the fact that your application is not emptying the PC buffer fast enough so new data overwrites old data before they are copied to the application allocated memory. You can try increasing the buffer size and/or reducing the Scan rate, whichever possible.

  • Is time capsule fast enough to stream hd 1080p material?

    I thinking about buying a time capsule 2tb. I would like to use it as server too. Is it fast enough to stream
    Hd 1080p ? If it connected with gbit lan?
    Thanks

    It will depend on the the actual type of 1080p HD formatted files you are trying to stream. The file would have at least three parameters to consider for streaming: 1) Frame Size, 2) Frame Rate, & 3) Compression. For example, 1920 x 1080 HD @ 30 fps using DV50 compression will require approximately 43 MBps (344 Mbps).
    In addition to the Ethernet connection, both the internal HDD's interface and the HDD's characteristics itself need to be taken into consideration. Using AJA System Test, I can get a consistent 8-12 MBps read data transfer rates between my 4th generation TC and my 2011 Mac mini ... which I would suspect would NOT be adequate for streaming HD content with these parameters.

  • Is the 200GB 4200-rpm HDD fast enough to use for Final Cut HD Express?

    Just saw the option of having a 200 gb HDD on the MBP
    Is this fast enough to work with HD files?
    Thanks
    Jerry

    Of course it is. It will mean slower speeds but a consistent factor (4200 divided by 5400) at most. I tend to tell people if they need extremely powerful video processing software to skip the macbook and get a mac pro. Anything thats going to take an extremely long amount of time on a 5400 isn't going to take all that much longer with 4200 (in fact once loaded into memory, its virtually the same).
    So yes it is fast enough but a Mac Pro is even better for high performance video work.

  • When I add pictures into MUSE , do the pictures resize for web quality (And so the page loads fast enough) or do I have to do this using an external software like photoshop, etc. ? Thank You

    When I add pictures into MUSE , do the pictures resize for web quality (And so the page loads fast enough) or do I have to do this using an external software like photoshop, etc. ?
    Also is there any way I can change the contact form email for all of my contact forms at once.
    I have over 100 contact forms and i want to make them reach the same email anyway I can do that without going one by one?

    If you have placed the image in Muse using File > Place and then scaled the image down in Muse while editing, then Muse publishes/exports the scaled down/optimized image in final output. When using as a Fill, the output size depends on the Fitting option you setup in the Fill options.
    As for the contact form email, you would need to specify the email address for each form individually. There is no workflow to edit the same for multiple forms at a time.
