Is java compiler that weak ???

Hello buddies
i have a question that why do we have to put an f
like
Float fNew = 10.12f ;
why does not java compiler treat it the same way like other like
int nNew = 10 ;
if we dont put an f it gives a type cast error and and it treats it like a double.
is java compiler that weak that we have to tell to compiler that its a float no.

thats wht i am asking that compiler is week so we have
to tell compiler that its a float .....
cause in c we dont have to instruct compiler that its
a float
i know thats written in specs but it shoudnt be like
.... this i wanted to ask does any one
KNOW THAT WHY THIS IS THE REASON THAT WE HAVE TO PUT F
WITH FLOATS ???Actually I've had some C compilers complain if you don't use the f for the float.
For real numbers, the default is double, integers, the default is int. I don't think the compiler is "weak". If the defaults were float and long, then we'd have to specify something to make them doubles or ints.
What makes 10.12 a float or a double? It can be both so you have to tell it not to treat it as a double (the default). The warning/error is pretty much saying "do you really want me to cripple the precision of this number?"

  • Javax.sound missing with Fedora Core 3 linux's java compiler?

    I'm running Fedora core 3, and I did a complete install(selected all the packeges). I have the java compiler that FC3 installed. I can compile most things, but I seem to be missing the sound package/folder.
    This leads to an error when I try to import the sound libraries.
    //start code
    //simple non-working example
    import javax.sound.*;
    class sounds
    //end code
    results in the error "The import javax.sound cannot be resolved"
    I am trying to run a code snippet from javaAlmanac, and of course it won't work. Today, a friend of mine had the exact same problem on a windows machine using JDK 1.5.
    I'm going to test this code out on a windows machine also.
    Are there issues with the FC3 java compiler?
    Has anyone else run into and solved this issue?
    I'm considering copying the sound folder from some other Java installation, anyone try this?
    Thanks,

    I'm pretty new at this myself. I've also installed Fedora Core 3 on an AMD 64. When I do the same uname - a I get:
    Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.9-1.667 #1 Tue Nov 2 14:50:10 EST 2004 x86_64 x8 6_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    Maybe you didn't install as 64 bit ?
    I've also successfully installed Jave Runtime Environment. java -version gets me:
    java version "1.4.2_08"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_08-b03)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_08-b03, mixed mode)
    I'd suggest installing 32 bit. I can't tell the difference when I run programmes that use 64 or 32 bits - it will be just as good.

  • Is it possible to write a Java file that creates/compiles other Java files?

    My goal is to write a program that writes files containing Java code depending on the user's input. That's the easy part. The tough part, I think, is to get the Java file to use the Java compiler to compile, and run, those newly created files.
    I know this sounds crazy, but I really want to get this to work.
    Can someone please tell me how to do this?

    You could use the eclipse compiler
    http://help.eclipse.org/help31/index.jsp?topic=/org.ec
    lipse.jdt.doc.isv/guide/jdt_api_compile.htm
    Or the one from the JDK (com.sun.javac.Main located
    in the JDKs /lib/tools.jar). But that won't work with
    an JRE unless you ship the tools.jar too. And it
    isn't what i would call an official API. So i would
    rather use the eclipse compiler. I did this once and
    it worked fine.it isn't what sun call an official API, either, which is somewhat more important! the license even used to restrict re-distribution of tools.jar (I think that's changed now)

  • How to run a java program without Java Compiler

    I have a small project and I want share it with my friends but my friend'pc have not
    Java compiler.
    for example, I writen a application like YM, then 2cp can sent,receive messege. My cumputer run as Server, and my frien PC run as client.
    How can my friend run it? or how to create an icon in dektop tu run a java program..??..
    (sorry about my English but U still understand what i mean (:-:)) )

    To run a program you don't need a Java compiler. Just the Java Runtime Engine. That can be downloaded from the Sun website and comes with an installer.
    You could then turn your application into an executable jar file and start it somehow like jar myYM.
    There is also software that packs a Java program into an executable file. I've never used that but one that comes to my mind is JexePack. It's for free if you can live with a copyright message popping up every time you start the program.

  • A helloworld java applet that will work on an html file

    I have spent a lot of time trying to get a java applet to work on a web page. Of course, I can download zip packages and they will work. But I can?t seem to find a formula for creating something simple that will work.
    All the examples that I have found will either work on Windows when running it on the command line, or work in Netbeans, but none of them will work when I put time into an html file on a linux web server.
    Can someone post, maybe the simplest code that will output ?Hello world? on a Linux Apache Web server.
    I have the gist for creating and programming java? as least a basic start. But I?m anxious to see an example that I can compile that will actually display on an html file and not just my Windows programming environment.
    Thanks in advance for any feedback on this.

  • Is it possible to change the compiler that is built into Sun Creator?

    Is it possible to change the compiler that is built into Sun Creator?
    I would like to compile my project to run under the JNI. I have tried to use the command line to run the javah -jni filenames but I always get errors and my assumption is that I need to change or adapt the IDE WITHOUT violating any licensing agreements to get the JNI working in this IDE.
    I would appreciate any help that I could get in regards to this issue whther someone from SUN wants to comment or if any developer's have had this issue and have solved it...

    Okay, I just tried this. I changed the default location of J2SE JDK in the creator conf file. Saved the file.
    For example:
    #netbeans_jdkhome="C:\Program Files\Sun\Creator2_1\java"
    netbeans_jdkhome="C:\Program Files\Java\JDK1.5.0_04"
    On restarting the IDE the new path is taken. To see the change: go to main menu -> Help -> About Java Studio Creator . Go to Detail tab. You will see the values for Java and Java Home changed as per your change in the creator.conf file.
    Hope this helps.

    Daniel Huang

    Having not seen this before, I assume that the issue is that the command line string is too long when Javac is invoked.
    Here are a few things to reduce the size of the command line:
    - do not use the CLASSPATH option, but set the CLASSPATH environment variable (you can to that in a .bat file)
    - do not provide the .java files but rely on the implicit make capability in both, the SQLJ translator and the Java compiler. (Note: you must mention all of the .sqlj files that your program requires, do not rely on implicit make to find all of those.)
    - you can perform the -ser2class conversion as a separate step (see the SQLJ FAQ), as well as the Java compilation
    - there may or may not be a facility in your operating system to increase the size of the environment (and this may or may not have an effect on the maximum command line length)
    - you could try to omit the -passes option and see if that helps (that may actually be where your invocation if failing in the first place, in that it cannot write to some temporary file).
    Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

  • Java Compilation Process and how it relates to portability

    I need to know more about the java compilation process, how it achieves porability and its drawback and benifits. Can anyone help me with a link or an answer?
    Help would be much appriciated!

    javac, the Java compiler, is written in Java itself. It generates .class
    files from your .java source files. Those .class files are loaded by the
    JVM (the Java Virtual Machine) and executed. The javac compiler
    itself consists of just a bunch of those .class files and the compiler
    doesn't even know on what platform it is running while compiling
    your .java files.
    If you simply carry over the tools.jar file (and some other .jars) in which
    the package com.sun.tools.javac resides to another platform where a
    JVM is installed you can compile your .java files on that other platform
    too. And those compiled classes will run on that platform too ;-)
    kind regards,
    Jos

  • How to specify java compiler options in JDeveloper ?

    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.2. I downloaded and installed JDK 5.0.
    In my "Project Properties"->"Libraries" I created a new "JDK 5.0" J2SE Version and pointed to the new JDK5.0 execuitable. So far so good.
    Now I need to compile all my source code with -source=1.4 option. How do I specify java compiler option "-source=1.4" in JDeveloper ?

    Even before compilig I am not sure that by just going to "Project Properties"->Libraries and creating a new J2SE, I now have the new compiler working with JDEveloper. How do I test this ?

    When using the rule repository in a BPEL process by creating a decision service and a decide activity the deployment stops during the compilation of the jaxb classes. Hi Everyone,
    I've resolved the error. It was the fact that I was pointing to the wrong rmi port. I found out by typing out the "opmnctl status -l" on the command line and realised that my rmi port was 12401 instead of 23791. Hence, under the "deployDecisionServices" namespace in the build.xml file, I modified it from "rmiport="${rmiport}" to "rmiport="12401"" and deploy it and everything works. Thank you everyone for your time and efforts.
    Regards,
    John

    Dear all
    My organization has a web cum wap site running on XML - XSL. When i uploaded a modified file it started giving me the following error
    java.lang.Exception: XSP Java Compiler: Compilation failed for

    The site is running on Linux platform ( with Apache, Jserv, Cocoon).

    Thank you very much.
    But the as i had wrote that am using Apache, Jserv and Cocoon, my site is in XML , XSL format..i can do logical work in XML and representation in two formats one is HTML and one in WML through XSL. so only i have to make all these files and put them in to theirs respective place, htdocs. Then , as u know, it automaticaaly parsed, compiled and processed through parsers and processors provided by servers. So i don't need to compile each java file. Now u suggest me what i have to do? Is their any procedure that Cocoon Engine automaticaaly can increased this size.
    Thanxs and regards

  • Java compile error for removed API

    Hi,
    What are the Java compile errors for API that has been removed?
    As I understand it, API elements are deprecated and not removed from the API immediately, but will be removed in future releases or after so many years.
    When Java code is compliled in a higher Java version, and the API has finally been removed - what are the errors that will be ouput in the log?
    Thank you for your time.

    WalterLaan wrote:
    And if you recompile one with a method removed that the other use and then run the other you would get a NoSuchMethodError (or more generally just an error sub class of LinkageError).
    Not that you should be catching those unless you accept classes from the user (as plugins).Presumably you mean he should not be catching them?
    @OP: In general, you should not catch unchecked exceptions. These are RuntimeException, Error, and their descendants. There are exceptions, such as at "layer boundaries," or when you don't want errors in one module/application/plugin/etc. to affect or prevent processing in others.
