Is Java what i need?

Hi, I am not a programmer or IT person. Recently, in a director meeting at my company there was interest in creating some sort of "New Business" messaging system that's better than a mass e-mail. Basically, the directors thought, "Wouldn't it be cool if when we got a new client, a little window would pop up on everybody's monitor with the announcement?" I instantly thought of application offered by sports websites, and Southwest Airlines, that send news and announcements right to one's desktop. Are those Java? What are they called? How do I develop one for my company? Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

Hi, I am not a programmer or IT person. This forum is for programmers.
Recently, in
a director meeting at my company there was interest
in creating some sort of "New Business" messaging
system that's better than a mass e-mail. Oh my.
Basically,
the directors thought, "Wouldn't it be cool Many an IT horror story starts with "the director/vp/president thought 'Wouldn't it be cool'"
if when
we got a new client, a little window would pop up on
everybody's monitor with the announcement?" I
instantly thought of application offered by sports
websites, and Southwest Airlines, that send news and
announcements right to one's desktop. Are those
Java? Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.
What are they called? Instant Messengers?
Spyware?
How do I develop one
for my company? Well you can do this in Java but it's not going to take 5 minutes. Let me rephrase, if you want to write this yourself in any language it is going to take awhile if you are not a programmer because first you will need to learn to be a programmer.
Have you looked at MSN-Messenger?

    Hi All,
We are moving Web Dynpro Java timesheet to Web Dynpro ABAP timesheet.
what changes needs to be done from EP side?
I have made Web Dynpro ABAP iView calling Web Dynpro ABAP timesheet and linked it with page.
But It is showing an error 'Web Dynpro Application CATDATARECORD does not exist'.
Please suggest what other changes needs to be done.

    Hi Anurag,
I have added new Web Dynpro ABAP iView to the same page in which Web Dynpro JAVA iview was added and made ABAP iview visible.
And this page is already assigned to role.
How should I link this ABAP iview so that it get replace by the Web Dynpro JAVA iview.
And the  application name (CATDATARECORD) is correct and Web Dynpro JAVA is using the same application.
But now we want new time timesheet for that what changes needs to be done?
    Please suggest.

  • What verson of java do I need to download for Mac OS X 10.5.8?

What version of Java do I need to download for Mac OS 10.5.8?

Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

    Further information here:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1735645
    and their FAQ’s:

However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:

  • What version of Java do I need? I am running Mac OSX 10.6.3.

What version of Java do I need? I am running Mac OSX 10.6.3 on a MacPro 8 Core. I have downloaded Java Updates 5, 6 and 12 but they won't install. Can anyone offer suggestions?
    Many thanks, Harry.

Disable Java (not Javascript) in all your web browsers preferences, that's the attack vector, via java web pages applets.
There is also Java 6 on OS X (10.6) itself already (comes installed) via the Java Preferences in Applications/Utilities folder, leave this on for Java based programs your using.
10.6 can't use Java 7 and Oracle is dropping support for Java 6 this month.
Since your not going to use Java 6 online, then your Java programs should work as long as you don't update.
Don't use Safari online as it hasn't been updated for 10.6 (10.7+ has Safari 6) use Firefox as it does get updates.

Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like you need to download Java. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • BI Java Installation: Clarification Needed!

I'm wondering if someone could help clear this up for me:
We have installed NW2004s SPS08 on Solaris with only the usage type EP (AS Java/EP). Awhile back I was tasked with connecting our BW ABAP system to our Portal ("Integration into the Portal" - transaction SPRO etc).
After starting this task I noticed I was missing things that the instructions were telling me to configure; i.e. Items that were related to BI that weren't in the Portal such as certain roles, the BI Repository Manager etc.
Reading around, it seemed like I need to install the BI usage type.
I have now been tasked with another installation of the Portal (NW2004s SR1 this time), but am trying to head off the problems I'm experiencing trying to connect the Portal to our BW ABAP system. This will be a Java only installation. I've read that BI-Java requires EP and AS Java, and that if I install the BI-Java usage type, EP and AS-Java will be installed automatically.
My question is, if I do the BI-Java installation and it automatically installs EP/AS-Java, will the Portal still act the same way as it does in my EP/AS-Java only installation I already have? We have many plans to use the Portal as an entry point for all of our backend systems, so if the Portal's capabilities are not what we see already (in our first installation of just EP/AS-Java) then we will have problems.
Any clarification is greatly appreciated and I will award points accordingly.
    THANKS!
    Beau.

I think that's what I needed to know.
I was actually wondering about DI as well. Our developers are having problems deploying .EAR files to our original EP-only install. They can deploy .PAR files with no problems, but .EAR files always error out. Maybe having DI will solve this problem as well? I'm a little concerned about the hardware capacity of this box with having BI, EP and DI all installed on it. I had contacted SAP about installing DI a while back and basically they had told me to install it on a seperate server, by itself. We're running a Sun Enterprise 420R, 4G of memory and a 450 mhz processor for this new installation. Do you think this box is capable of handle EP, BI and DI (AS-JAVA)?
    Thanks for your help!

  • What is needed for Web page applet?

    Hi,
Please excuse my ignorance, but I want to ask what is needed to see "java" web pages? I have an old handheld that uses windows ce 2.11. When I try to pull up a java web page, I get the message that "Sorry your browser does not support java".
Do I need a java runtime environment? A java virtual machine? It is a little confusing to a newbie.
Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, you need a java runtime environment (aka JRE aka jvm aka Java plug-in)
However I don't believe that the versions available for the "usual" 32 and 64 bit architectures will work in a CE (but I could be wrong).
This website has something to say about Java on a CE
    http://www.fmcpherson.com/knowce/where/where6.htm
There's other information available - Google 'java "windows ce"'
Sun's automated download page for their JRE's is at http://www.java.com

  • Applet in the web, what's needed?

    Hi everybody!
I'm new in Java programming but I've began with great enthusiasm.
I've done a silly applet that will be to control a RCX of Lego in the future.
But my question is, what is needed to see applets? The Java Run Time Environment? The Java Virtual Machine? I'm a bit lost because for example Microsoft Internet Explorer has some options like Microsoft VM for Java, but applets don't run with this options enable. Or perhaps only j2sdk1.4.1_01, for example, is needed?
I see my applet in my PC but not in others.
    Please, help me.
Anyway, thank you for this forum

If you're writing applets for jdk < 1.1.8 you'll have no problem with using it in different browser since most of them support the early versions of java without the need to install something.
In case you're using Swing-components or the like (of JDK >= 1.2) you'll need to install the java-plugin for the browsers in order to display them correctly or even be able to display them.

  • ITunesU.java - What do you do with it?

I've managed to replace the authentication strings with the 4 lines emailed to me, and I've managed to javac compile the file into a class. I've managed to get the output of the file to work as an html file. What I cannot do is figure out how to get the file to execute from within a webpage. It just downloads rather than executes. Perhaps it's due to my web server?
We are on macs but our institution is all ASP.NET and running IIS. If we can get the java to execute from a browser that will be 1 step for us. We got the perl example working just fine, but I have yet to understand how to pass information to the perl script from a form or even how these MACE authentications work outside of the default. Can we create a $LearnerClass for authentication in the credential array of either the java or the Perl? What do we need to pass the data, another script or just a form with post?
We will need to integrate everything with Windows2003 Server domain authentication/LDAP. I have no idea what we need to tell the server group to get this ball rolling.
    Thanks,
    Chris Born

    Hi,
All of the example scripts are just examples of what you need to do to produce your own script. The Java example can not be executed directly from a web page, you will have to write a new script based on the Java example.
At this point you probably need to get your server group directly invovled with this and have them determine the best way to do this integration. They may have to write a C# class to do what the Java and Perl example do.

You appear to have AVG installed:
    *See --> http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=173969#post_173969
From reading on the internet, it appears that when there is a spike in memory usage, AVG "interprets" that as a memory leak, possibly caused by malware. AVG could be incorrect concerning that assumption. Maybe they are being a bit too conservative about memory usage; just my opinion.
The decision is yours to turn off the "advisor" or leave it on.

  • What is needed for LiveCycle Output?

We have several copies of LiveCycle Designer ES 8.1 and we have an Adobe Server running. What is needed on the server to facilitate LiveCycle Output. We may already have what's needed, but just install or turn on.
I assume LiveCycle Designer ES can be used to create templates for dynamic content, which will be used by LiveCycle Output.

Output can be called using - Java API (from an app or a servlet), Web Service (from an app), Flex (remoting) interface, watch folder (drop files in a folder), email, etc.
You'll need to pass it some parameters such as:
The template (xdp or PDF from Designer) - yes it can be dynamic
The data you want to add (XML)
Render options (see the Adobe docs)
