Is JavaFX 2.0 coming in December?

There are two books coming in december 2010. They will be about javafx 2.X.
http://apress.com/book/view/9781430268727
http://apress.com/book/view/9781430271994
So i think the next release of javafx will be 2.0 instead of 1.4 (or like in java 1.4 aka java 2 se).

The Pro JavaFX book to which you refer is a placeholders at Amazon, submitted by Apress, for a book on an upcoming version of Java. Neither the timing, nor the version number, were informed by Oracle, so no conclusions should be drawn.
Thanks,

  • Does the new iMac coming in December have a dvd drive? If not can you use the Apple USB SuperDrive?

Does the new iMac coming in December have a dvd drive? If not can you use the Apple USB SuperDrive?

The soon to be released new iMacs don't have a DVD drive. I don't believe that Apple have updated their site to say their USB drive will work, but the expectation is that it will.
I watched the keynote and when Phil Schiller was presenting the new models I think he mentioned something about it working and he had one on the desk next to the iMac.
I'm going to check the keynote if it's still up and I'll update my post if I'm wrong.

  • FTTP coming in December but what are the packages?

    Hi all,
My exchange is down for FTTP in Dec this year which I guess means I can get access to BT Infinty option 3 and 4. Unfortunately on the BT website you can't see those options unless you can already get FTTP!
Can anyone enlighten me as to what the packages are and how much they cost so I can prepare the groundwork with the wife?
    Many thanks
    Barry

And Infinity options 1 and 2 are also available with FTTP.
This is the link about BT Infinity FTTP options 3 and 4: http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/faster-internet unfortunately I can't seem to find the prices however as pottyperson has said the options team will be your best bet to get a good deal.
Also the number for BT Retail FTTP sales is 0800 587 4787 in case you need it.

  • Will my 27inch LED cinema display work with the 2014 MacPro?

I have two 27 inch LED cinema displays I bought in 2010 I think. I want to know if I can use both displays with the new cylindrical MacPro? My displays have mini display port connection and are non thunderbolt. I know that I cant daisy chain the monitors because they are NOT thunderbolt, but will I be able to connect both to the new MacPro's coming this December?

Thanks TurboStar for your excellent comments and suggestions. I have pre-ordered that Apple 27" LED Display now off Amazon.co.uk... it will be in stock on the 21st March.... and I look forward now with anticipation to getting my hands on it and more importantly my eyes... now that I have read your resounding approval of the 27" compared to my tired and jaded 30".
Interesting your comments about the new MacPro also... I think I went OTT when I bought my last 12 Core MacPro (32GB RAM + 512GB SSD)..... it cost me in total €8,800 ($12,200) which was mad money.... it's doing a great job.... but I don't work with video or video games, just Quark, Illustrator and Photoshop... so not sure if the 8 Core or less would have done the job just as good... I just wanted the best with what I thought was the most horsepower so I could take on any task. I will wait and review more with the New MacPro.... maybe the 6 Core is the way to go... and pump up the SSD and RAM....
    Thanks again.
    Regards,
    Anthony

  • New 27" i Mac--how can I connect Firewire devices?

I don't see any Firewire ports mentioned for the new 27" iMac that's coming in December. Will I be able to connect any of my Firewire drives or devices?

If there is no Firewire (and, I'm not saying there isn't) then you will have to use Thunderbolt or USB.

  • Is Aperture faster using discrete graphics?

I'm considering a new Mac to replace my late 2006 MBP. Initially, I was debating with myself whether I should buy a new MacBook Pro, a Retina MBP, or wait for the new 27" iMac coming in December.
More recently, however, I've seen the 2012 Mac Minis, and they are benchmarking very similar numbers to the Retina MBP with the same processor.
But the big difference I see, is that the Mini only has the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, while all the other options have the integrated graphics, plus various flavors of nVidia GeForce grahics.
So, my question is, will Aperture be noticeably faster having (and using) the discrete grahics instead of having solely the integrated graphics?
I like to get the best performance for my money, but if the performance difference is only slight byt the dollar difference is large...

...more (The forum as is common just trashed a few paragraphs of writing that I decline to rewrite).
In summary, graphics are limiting to graphics processing so IMO we should buy strong discrete graphics boxes for heavy graphics apps because the OS, apps and camera file sizes are getting more demanding not less demanding of graphics support.
Personally I consider mobility essential and Aperture still fails to synch a laptop/desktop workflow, so I got rid of my MP/MBP setup for a strongest-graphics MBP.
    CPU-only test results are at
    http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
but note that all 2012 cpus are strong. The Geekbench results linked do not measure application performance; graphics and RAM are what tend to be most limiting, not cpu.
From the BareFeats site previously linked to:
    "BOTTOM LINE
The 'late 2012' Mac mini Quad-Core i7 is strong on CPU crunching but weak on graphics intensive tasks."

  • Need solution for dying G5

I have an old  g5 that is on its last legs. I mostly use it for ProTools editing  sessions using LE. If I replace it I'm going to be stuck with Mountain Lion  or Mavericks which aren't supported by ProTools (Avid)  These aren't complex music editing sessions, mostly voice only.
This machine was given to me 8 years ago. No startup disc and it has decided it no longer recognizes any external drive I try to use for Time Machine backup via firewire. That makes disc repair problematic. The CPU is no longer supported by Apple and has topped out at OSX 10.5.8. Other stats  PowerMac 11,2 Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC 2.5 GB Memory
Moving forward I don't need a powerful Mac - just something that will so simple programs and ProTools. I could go Mac Mini or a small laptop,
Does anyone have suggestions for a bandaid solution to carry me for a bit until Avid supports Mavericks? It's pretty nerve wracking to have no back up.
And what would you suggest for a replacement without all the bells and whistles of the G5 or the new circular replacement coming in December.
    Thanks for your help.

How much free space is on that drive?
What file are you  rying o save to it?
I'd turn off TM & see what happens, then maybe afar better backup method than TM...

  • Adobe - Always Playing Catch-Up

I found this clip, and though it interesting.
    >"As important as the release of the EX camera itself were several related announcements. Sony Media Software is offering new support for XDCAM with the IBC-timed release of Vegas Pro 8, its in-house NLE software. From across the convention hall floor, Apple noted that Final Cut Studio 2 would offer updates later this year to support XDCAM as well. And, finally, Grass Valley/Thomson announced that Edius Pro 4.5, coming in December, would also support Sonys format. Perhaps this will help put to rest any premature speculation from user groups about weak workflow support for early EX adopters."
Now I'm not a big fan of GOP source material, so hoping Premiere will support XDCAM HD isn't my issue. The point is that a new prosumer level camera comes out in October, and by year's end, three of the five prosumer NLEs will have support for it's media.
And here is Adobe, the second largest software company on the planet,
four years after the introduction of DVCPro HD, just now adding support to it's NLE. Shame, Adobe! Shame!
At this rate, AVC-Intra will have a replacement before Premiere gets to edit it.

    > And here is Adobe, the second largest software company on the planet, four years after the introduction of DVCPro HD, just now adding support to it's NLE. Shame, Adobe! Shame!

If Adobe wants professionals to get serious about Premiere Pro, then Adobe needs to get serious about media.

Vice City for iOS is coming out December 6th, and I'm wondering when new games/apps are acually made availible on the store. Midnight on the day of release or later?

It's midnight local time for your international App store.  New Zeland will get it long before anyone in the US.

  • Will Apple have a new UHD feature on for Movies purchase and/or rented on iTunes?

It seems to me that with the growing demand of 4K displays, and with the new release of the new iMac with Retina 5K display, not to mention the pre-existing MacBook Pros with Retina Display, that there is a definite profit to be made from UHD (Ultra High Definition) movies. With the release of UHD Blu-rays and players coming next December, it seems a likely path that apple will (hopefully) take and a path that other media providers (i.e. Amazon, Sony Video Unlimited, Netflix etc.) already have taken. It seems likely to me, but what do you think?

We are fellow users, we won't know until if/where Apple announce something - but it will also require the rights-holders to be willing to provide their content in that format to Apple.
You can leave feedback for Apple via this page : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Incompetent fools or am I just unlucky?

I feel I'm just another in a long chain of BT's poor shows and clear lack of competency but I thought I'd share my situation with you for you to decide.
    The story so far:
Initial order placed - August 2013
Engineer booked for - 18th Sept - No show
Order cancelled, unbeknown to myself, by BT with no further communication until I contacted them.
Order re-placed October 17th (it's a new house so it should have been easier with BT as they've done all the ground work)
Engineer booked - 4th Nov - Cancelled by BT on the 3rd.
Engineer booked - 7th Nov - No show after, and I kid you not, 2 telephone calls, 3 emails & 3 texts to confirm dates.
Connection to Exchange due - 11th Nov - Delayed until December - so why book an engineer in the 1st place I wonder?
Engineer Booked - 13th Nov - Cancelled by BT on the 12th.
Exchange connection due - 3rd December - delayed until January 18th
Engineer coming - 4th December - Cancelled by BT, again 1 day before.
Numerous messages from BT along the lines of "Hello - This is a message from BT. This is to confirm we will contact you on <insert random date> by 8pm to discuss the delay in activation of your services."
Surprise, Surprise. You don't.  Alternatively, I get "We tried to call you but you didn't answer", which I feel is a blatant lie unless you used telepathy.
Just when there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel, once again BT surpass themselves with their ineptitude.
After a call from BT India, I apologise but do feel this is where the majority of communication breakdowns occur, the lady on the phone  informs me that an engineer has been booked for Monday the 10th. Being the Thursday prior means changing shifts for myself or the wife is going to be tricky to say the least.  I try to explain this to the call centre lady but simply get told, "You should take this date because you have been dragging out this installation for some time and another date will not be very soon".  I HAVE BEEN DRAGGING IT OUT??? You cheeky ******!
Anyway, I take the 10th, we sort out work, I check the BT Order tracking site and all looks good..  Until today, when I receive a call from BTOpenreach confirming my appointment  for the 11th.  Seriously WTF BT are you taking the p***!
So, at this point you can install my line but at the 1st opportunity I'll be cancelling and going somewhere else.. anywhere.. but not BT.
TLR - BT don't stick to dates as promised and after 6 months of being arsed about, still no phone line.

    Hi guys,
    Thanks for your responses.
Just to clarify, my main gripe here is with the installation team constantly giving dates and then cancelling them the day before or simply not turning up on said date. As mentioned above, both the wife and I work, so booking these days off as holiday and then finding out it was pointless is a bitter pill to swallow.
I've been out speaking to the OpenReach guys in the road, well a contractor of theirs, who explained about a few of the delays. I understand and accept unexpected things happen but it's the complete lack of communication from the installation side which lets the company down drastically and that's point I'm trying to get across to anyone else reading these posts.
Conrad, initially none of the ground work had been complete which is why I'm surprised an engineer was booked. It seems one department doesn't communicate with the other. My understanding of the network is limited but - we had the house line installed & connected to the exchange sometime before Christmas and have been waiting for connection at the exchange to the fibre optic side of things. The OpenReach guys said this wasn't planned for completion until Jan 2014 and can't understand why I wasn't told this initially, but that's another matter.
I'll take this to the Contact Us side of things now and see if I have reason to escape the contract early, once again thanks for listening to my rant.
    Steve

Dated December 14th, 2013... When is Adobe coming up with the next version of Muse?  This one is just stinks! It is full of unsolvable bugs! and eats at my time! I would rather have an old reliable version that pay monthly for something that might be usable in three months!
