Is javascript in HTML e-mail possible ?
Hi mates,
I'm trying to send an HTML e-mail with a piece javascript code which is an Action handler for the buttons in the HTML mail.
Using MailPackage in my mapping, I made sure that javascript and html code is rendered in the output XML message.
But in my mailbox, in the source of my HTML email I dont see the javascript code.
Is there anyway I can get the javascript in the email using receiver mail adapter?
Appreciate ur inouts.
thx in adv
praveen
Praveen,
Since it is possible that a script based virus can spread very easily thro' such emails, most of the email clients as well as corporate email servers filter out scripts in Html emails. You will have to tweak a bit with the security settings of your default email client as well as get this clarified from your network / email admins.

Sender Mail Adapter - html body mail
Hello Everybody,
I'm facing this strange problem:
I receive an e-mail with an XML attachment with a sender mail adapter and I use the PayloadSwapBean to let the attachment be the real payload as explaned in this blog
<a href="/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/12/18/xi-sender-mail-adapter--payloadswapbean--step-by-step:///people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/12/18/xi-sender-mail-adapter--payloadswapbean--step-by-step
If I receive mail in text/plain format everything works fine, but as soon as I get an email with an html body (content-type: multipart/alternative; boundary=...) it doesn't any more (In the XI Monitor i still se 2 payloads, but I can only open the one with the attachment).
In this case the mapping is stuck in "scheduled for outbound process" status and the XI queue gets blocked with status "SYSFAIL" giving this error "Access via 'NULL' object reference not possible".
Is there any way to force XI digest also HTML e-mails?
As always, thanks a lot for your help.
DanieleThanks Akshay,
this really worked!
Fyi I'm using XIPAYLOAD option. I added in the module chain, before the PayloadSwapBean, a MessageTransformBean with this parameter:
Transform.ContentType - text/plain;charset=uft-8
this way I can also see the massage body in the monitornig.
Hope this will be helpful for someone else.
Regards,

WHY OH WHY NO HTML SUPPORT MAIL 5.1????
Guys
First of all well done on Lion. It is a geat looking OS and I personally LOVE IT.
I must however askk wht for the sake of not having to run MS on my mac is there still no support for HTML mails in mail for mac 5.1?
The ONLy reason I am running office 2010 for mac is for HTML mails. Now I know you can pull out your mad HTML skill to code a message as HTML ,but in the world we live in that is not always possible.
Please guys shed some light on this.
ArthurWhy have questions when they're not answerable? You're not talking to Apple, and even if you were, you wouldn't be talking to anyone who could comment on the question of why Mail does not have a WYSIWYG HTML editor built into it. That seems to be all you're asking.
Now, if you are looking for solutions, you can always compose your message in the HTML editor of your choice, load it up in Safari and then choose File -> Mail Contents of This Page. Be aware, though, that Outlook copes extremely poorly with HTML e-mail. -

HTML e-mail is all very well but, when abroad, it would be much more convenient (not to say cheaper) if my iPhone only received the text content of the e-mail (no formatting, no images, nothing except a link to the download if required). Is it possible to enable this function? Or am I going to have to return my iPhone and go back to my Blackberry in order to save money? Or is Apple going to enable this function in the next update (if it doesn't exist already)?
It is not possible, so return your iPhone to Apple.

How can I submit the page from javascript in html header?
I followed
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/htmldb/howtos/htmldb_javascript_howto2.html#client
It says "doSubmit('Delete');" to submit the delete action.
If I do the same in the java script that is embededed in html header, it does not work.
I am assuming 'Delete' is the name of the button here.
I also tried:
document.forms[5].submit(); --> does not work
document.formname.submit(); --> does not work
I want to know:
how I get the form name. I am assuming that this is the name in Name field in "Page definition" or is this page number?

Programs for embedding HTML e-mails??
I know there are a bunch of posts on HTML e-mails already,
and I've been searching Google all day, but there seems to be a
plethora of tutorials on how to *construct* an HTML email, but very
little on how to actually make an email out of it.
I have outlook 2003, and after inserting my HTML as text, and
it destroys every piece of code. Some might call that "optimizing"
for email, but I don't like programs messing with code when I don't
ask it to. If there's compatability issues I'll work that out
myself!
What solutions are there for doing this kind of integration
with more manual control? Microsoft products scare me in
general--seeing how Word and Outlook handle html. I'd like to find
a program that will make html emails they way I tell it to...I mean
what do the big boys use? I look at say the newsletters from Adobe
and the code seems clean, untouched, and way heavy on
somewhat-advanced css. How do they integrate these e-mails? I doubt
they're loading up Outlook and "inserting as text" their

They probably use a server to send there emails. I have used
Pensaworks
Spd E-Letter application (
http://www.pensaworks.com),
its just an ASP
application that upload and run on your webserver. You upload
your html,
select it for your email, and send it to your list of email
addresses.
Its really good.

Accessing URL of links in HTML e-mail message via Services
I'm trying to write a simple service (in Automator) so that when I right-click on a URL, I can send that URL directly to my Instapaper account (rather than opening the link in a browser, and then clicking my bookmarklet to save to Instapaper.) I have it working for bare URLs included in the text, but I'd like to also be able to do it for hyperlinks in HTML-formatted Mail messages. Is there a way in Automator to access the underlying URL for a link, rather than the displayed link text? Clearly some of the built-in items in Mail's context menu (e.g. Open Link, Copy Link) do that, but I can't see how to get access to the URL in Automator.
Thanks in advance for your help with this,
EricHi Scott,
"Unapealing" it is, but that doesn't get it very high on the long requirements list.
To make it more appealing to reward points is higher up there and I think everyone would love to see that.
Nevertheless I added it to the list.
Best, Mark.
P.S. On one hand I don't care about points, on the other I get teased in the office when I am not in the top ten, although with all this great contributions from you guys and girls, I am letting go of that goal. So don't bother.

Some incoming emails have the comment that Mail is not currently configured to show HTML. Under Mail>preferences>view I have checked the box display remote images in HTML. How do I correct this without having to go to a web link to read the message in HTML?
Thanks,Some incoming emails have the comment that Mail is not currently configured to show HTML.
I've never seen such a message. Can you post the exact message?
Under Mail>preferences>view I have checked the box display remote images in HTML.
Bad, bad idea! Putting remote images in messages has legit uses, but it's also a trick used by spammers to verify your address. You open the message, it requests an image with a unique name keyed to your address, thus "phoning home" and telling the spammer that you looked at their message. Which will encourage them to send you lots more! I get HTML e-mails frequently, and having this box unchecked does not affect how they display (other than showing a blank space where the image would be). -
HTML E-mail Display Problems?
I had never seen this before, but it has now happened to me twice today. I received HTML e-mails from two different senders, and the last part of the text (HTML code) was displayed ABOVE the beginning (and some of the graphics). After a period of time (hours for one of them), it displayed correctly (why it suddenly displayed correctly at that point is beyond me--I can't figure out if there's a trigger for it). This is a Gmail account, if that matters, and it's an iPhone 3G with 3.1 installed. Any ideas?

Looks like there is a common theme there. It is probably just that the original message has been corrupted somehow. Some mail clients try harder to understand corrupted data than others. I can't really tell from your original post. With mail messages, you really need to have the original data, not copied and pasted and not forwarded. If you have such a mail message, save it as raw source, put it into a zip file, and e-mail it to me. I can tell if it is an Apple Mail problem or a MS problem. If it is an Apple problem, I can file a detailed bug report on it. You can find an e-mail address for me by Googling my nickname. -
Looking for HTML e-mail plugin
Does anyone know of a plugin for Dreamweaver that will allow me to produce a webpage as I normally do, but which will export the HTML code suitable for use as an HTML e-mail?
AFAIK there are no plug-ins or extensions for this.
How to Code HTML Emails
http://www.sitepoint.com/article/code-html-email-newsletters/
Use inline CSS styles for fonts and background colors. Use Tables to hold your page elements. Use absolute URLs to images on your web server. Give people who can't see your HTML page in their email client a link to the page on server. And as always, send only to opt in addresses and provide a link at the bottom for folks to opt out. In many ways, using an Email Service for campaigns and newsletters is money well spent.

Margin errors in HTML e-mail test
In a previous post, I had asked for help viewing HTML mail campaign pieces and got the suggestion to try Email on Acid. I did and this was a scream to watch. The results for Outlook (every issue) was less than stellar. However, Gmail reveled the worst results. I use OS X Mail and everything looks great there. The test spits out critical errors. One is that Photoshop doesn't supply a <!DOCTYPE> declaration, but that's easy enough to fix. The consistent errors in Outlook were:
MARGINHEIGHT- MARGINHEIGHT attribute is not supported in BODY tags
Line: 7
and
MARGINWIDTH - MARGINWIDTH attribute is not supported in BODY tags
Line:7
Any ideas what this is and how to fix?

Thanks,
Bill RzasaShort answer. Don't use Photoshop or any graphics app to generate HTML code for you.
The code Photoshop generates is deprecated. Change the following
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">
To this:
<body>
Use graphics apps for images only. Use an HTML editor to create your HTML Emails.
FYI: For security reasons, many web mail users don't see graphics. When I look at your HTML Email without images, I see nothing because there is no real text on the page.

Is there any document for that? Currently I set Treat Text As HTML under Data Format tab and include some simple HTML in Column formula, but I doubt it is correct way to include javascript and HTML in ayalysis output. Can anybody provide any idea or sample?
ThanksHi,
i am not sure about javascript but yes treat text as Html is used to utilize HTML power in OBIEE.There are many examples of this.Common uses are a href,GoNav and PortalPagenav fuction. These function are mix of HTML and OBIEE.We gebrally use this option when we want to carry out some HTML operation on data rendered by OBIEE.Common example is to make data values a hyperlink for which we use a href
