It depends on requirement of the web application. For eg., you can use html and servlets for making a web application, or jsp and servlets, or jsf etc. But you must learn html, servlets and jsp as these are the basics and required in software industry.

1. Apple's "Remote". I love the ability to control my computer (playing my iTunes library into my stereo) from anywhere in my house via wi-fi.
2. "Units" (and others like it). Very handy tool to convert sq. feet to acres, meters per second to mph, N-m to ft-lb, etc.
3. "Loan Shark" (and others like it). Very handy to figure out monthly payments on a loan given the interest rate/ term, calculating how much principle you will have paid after X months, etc.
4. "Sports Tap". ¡Órale! Mexico just beat France 2-0!
I have many others, but these I use a lot and find the most useful.

Is there any way that we could sticky the most-used topics in this section? I use the Unity-for-Arch thread frequently, and I see other threads that are quite large. Shopping cart creation category dropdown selecting the most used category

Hi SRM gurus,
While creating a shopping cart one of our most used category gets selected by default before we start doing anything.
Everytime we have to change the category.
Is there a way that will become blank and we can select from the dropdown or the find list.
Kindly suggest.

Yes.. This was happening with us when we used SRM 4.0 version.
We have used an BADI Implementation to resolve this issue.
The BADI name is BBP_F4_READ_ON_EXIT 
For Product category -> Product category (attr. WGR, PRCAT) GET_CATEGORY Method, you need to go ahead.
Read the documenation of this BADI and you will get the problem resolved after implementing the same.

Use this BAdI if you do not just want to restrict the favorites and values list but also want to select this yourself.

The following three modules are used to process the values per data element:
BBP_GET_<data element>_F4
Supplies a list of all values and user-specific favorites. You can influence how this module works using BAdI BBP_F4_READ_ON_ENTRY and BBP_F4_READ_ON_EXIT.
BBP_UPD_<data element>_FAV
Updates the favorites in internal function group storage. You can influence how this module works using BAdI BBP_F4_MEM_UPDATE.
BBP_SET_<data element>_FAV
Writes the current favorites to the database. You can influence how this module behaves using BAdI BBP_F4_SAV_DB.
Use

The list of valid values changed by you

The methods have to fill the structures of the transfer tables completely. Incompletely filled structures can cause followup errors and unforseen consequences.
Activities
Reading of value lists and favorites using function module BBP_GET_<data element>_F4 occurs as follows:
1. First the BAdI BBP_F4_READ_ON_ENTRY is called. It is possible to fill the input list (and favorites) with default values.
a) In the case of default values, exactly these values are returned to the initiator. No further processing or check occurs and the module is exited.
b) If no default values exist, the standard selection is carried out.
2. Before the values are transferred externally you can restrict or augment the number of hits using the BAdI BBP_F4_READ_ON_EXIT. You can therefore delete entries from or add entries to the input list or favorites list.
3. BAdI BBP_F4_READ_ON_EXIT provides an individual method for each data element for which an input help and/or favorites table exists. These are listed below.
If you use this method, you need to indicate processing using the parameter EV_X_LIST_PROCESSED or EV_X_FAV_PROCESSED. Otherwise the selection is lost.

at the moment I put alot of effort in learning JSF, but on some questions I hardly find any information, so I hope maybe you could help me a bit. As the questions are probably not easy to answer within some sentences, I rather need you show me the right direction than giving me a comprehensive answer ;)
Anyway, I welcome any help.
1. If a JSF web application handles sensitive data (e.g. customer data), how can I secure the application so the data cannot be stolen? Is SSL recommended? If yes, are there practical samples how I can use it inside JSF applications?
2. Are there any samples how I can secure XML web services? I read alot about SAML, XMLencryption and WS-Security, but I lack practical samples.
3. In case alot of customers work with a JSF application at the same time, how do you handle load-balancing in case the application needs to be distributed on 2 servers? Is it a good idea to handle communication between two servers via webservices?

The SAP standard doesn´t provide such a functionality. There is, however, a product called "RBE" (Reverse Business Engineer) which is part of the Solution Manager (ST-SEP). It must be licensed separately.

What is the most useful vst/audio-unit for recording bass guitar?

Hey, I'm fairly new to logic and I've been searching for a program that I can use with a bass guitar and get some cool effects going, but I have no idea what they are called I mean something like absynth, but less crazy, more for just recording a standard bass line, with combinations of effects like absynth.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean (Absynth applies some pretty extreme treatment to audio), but I'd suggest you'd want to use Logic's compressor and EQ for starters. Chorus, flanging or phasing can be useful, although they can muddy the sound, particularly if used in the context of a song arrangement, so careful usage is required.
Reverb and delay are not often applied to bass guitar, unless you're talking about solo work, in which case they may be very effective. There are other Logic plug-ins that will produce more extreme fx, like autofilter, ringshifter, tremelo etc.
And don't forget about the amp simulations and guitar pedal sims if you're on Logic 9 (try these first if you haven't already).

Thanks for your helpful replies. However the problem turned out to be a change (behind my back!) of the testing system. Instead of heating the testing loop with the ol' reliable AC supply, the technician went to a new DC supply. There's a fault in the wiring somewhere that appears to short the HP 3421A boxes to the 1000A power supply. This, as you might expect, makes them grumpy. Electrical intervention has taken place and the test is running again.

and i know that most of them are project dependent. but is there a source for this big decision as a guide ?
we are going to develope a web based and distributed total system(MIS,...) with around 130 subsystems ;
any propose on the architecture would be of great help. there must be some old successful systems with known architectures.

It really (as you say) depends on the project and the problem domain, there is no Golden Hammer in J2EE. However there are some considerations you might want to take into account, bear in mind that without knowing hte problem domain this could all be useless waffle :-):
1.) 'Future Proofing'. What technologies are likely to be supported well into the future and what will the average developer be comfortable with, also what is an easy framework for developers to follow? It sounds like you'll have a large team on this one and several replacement developers will probably come in along the way
So for the front-end you could argue for Struts (will definately be going strong as it will be closely tied in with the new JSF spec) or plain JSP/TagLib with a Servlet Controller MVC pattern. solution.
Moving further into your layers you definately want to have a Facade between your Business layer and your Data Access layer, there are so many competing technologies in this area that' it's wise to be able to mix and match at a later date.
2.) Another thing you might want to consider is definately representing your business data in XML. It could be a solution for having a consistant data transfer layer for those subsystems! But of course translating XML to Javabeans and back again can get expensive...
Well you could write a book on this (and several notable people have). I'd recommend that hte project budget shells out on J2EE Design Patterns by Oreilly for you, it'll help you clarify some ideas and more importantly help you avoid the common mistakes :-)
