  • JVC GZ-HM650 compatible with imovie '11?

Is the JVC GZ-HM650 compatible with imovie '11?  I have tried Apple's camcorder compatibility list and it is not listed there.  This is a new arrival for JVC.

try to connect the camera to Mac and use Import from Camera option to import AVCHD files to iMovie. 1080i and 1080 24/25p are able to work well with iMoive.
however, if AVCHD mts footages are 1080 50/60p, then a converter is needed. iMovie doesn't accpet 50/60p avchd files. It will prompt that it is not supported media. See this guide about how to import avchd files to iMoive.

  • Is JVC's HM845 compatible with iMovie 11 ?

    Hello,
Cannot find the answer. Seems the page that is provided in the link cannot be displayed ...and I'm not able to understand the various posts on the subject as I'm no Expert !!!
This is a "current" camcorder and it would be surprising that it should not be compatible but I'd rather make sure before buying...
An Apple user for almost 30 years, I know that everything is possible in the Apple world...
    Thanks to all.

AVCHD is actually good. But getting the Mac to see the video clips is the trickiest part. The most rigorous way to go about getting the Mac to see your camera is as follows:
    1. Power down the Mac altogether. You want to start from a so-called Cold boot, so the Mac has the best chance of seeing the camera when it powers up again
    2. Get your camera's power adapter that you use to recharge the battery. Connect to the power adapter, and plug the other end into the wall socket. Cameras running off of batteries sometimes have problems, powering off the mains is always the more conservative choice.
    3. Put the camera into playback/vcr mode. You can even have it playing back if you like, trying to send video signal out through the USB connector
    4. Connect the USB cable from your camera to the Mac. And startup the Macintosh
    5. When the Desktop appears, see if the camera also shows up as an externally connected device, like a USB thumb drive or and external hard drive (if it mounts that's a good sign)
    6. Open iMovie. If the camera mounted on the Desktop. Go to the File Menu > Import from Camera (the preferred method for AVCHD files). When the video window opens you should be able to see your camera's contents and then import the clips or Archive the contents of the camera onto your internal hard drive.
That's about the safest, most rigorous way to trouble-shoot whether or not iMovie will recognize the camera.
Failing that, you can also try copying the contents of the camera, by dragging the mounted camera to your hard drive (hold down the Option key and drag the icon to another location on the desktop). That at least will make a copy of the whole camera contents that you might be able to get iMovie to see by going to File Menu > Import > Movies...

  • Digital Camcorder compatible with iMovie &/or Final Cut Exp

Hello Everyone. I am in the market for a camcorder that I can use with my new imac. Have spent too much time researching whats out there as far as digital camcorders and am completely confused!! I would prefer one with a hard drive such as the sony DCRs but have found some places talk about incompatibility and others compatibility. My next choice was the Canon HV10 but it uses the Mini DV tapes. Any help, suggestions is greatly appreciated.

    hey there,
welcome to the forums. iMovie is built to work w/ DV25. that is DV or HDV signals recorded to tape, usually miniDV tape. there are workarounds for using hard disc cams, but the process takes longer & because hard disc recording uses a more highly compressed signal than DV or HDV your image is likely to suffer in quality.
i use and own Sony MiniDV & HDV cams & have had no issues w/ capture, editing or converting analog to digital w/ them.
    good luck.

  • Newbie question:- Is my Sony camcorder compatible with iMovie?

Hi, I have been using Sony and Panasonic camcorder mini-DVs for some time and have been creating DVDs using a Sony notebook with very clear and crisp videos.
Recently, I used my new Macpro to try out iMovie and iDVD. While mini-DV tapes created using Panasonic gives the same satisfactory videos, those recorded using Sony is giving me dismal output with facial features quite blur even when rendering using Professional Quality. Can anyone advise?
I must confess I really like the iMovie software compared to the one on my Sony notebook! So I hope to make use of it.

That's odd since MiniDV tapes are digital and should be the same. I've used a $2000 Sony camcorder and $200 Canon and have not noticed any difference with my DVDs when the recording speeds are 1 hour per 60 minute tape, and the encoding process is the same.

  • Is the camcorder JVC GZ-EX210 compatible with mac and imovie?

Is the camcorder JVC GZ-EX210 compatible with iMovie?

I should add, my answer above is for "intermediate" or editing codecs. These are high quality codecs that preserve as much quality as possible in the editing process. Once you have finished editing, you would convert (or compress) to a delivery codec. THe intermediate codecs are too large to stream over the internet, or to play on your iphone, so you would convert.
The best codec for this purpose is h.264, which provides a really good quality at a relatively low data rate, This means good quality with a relatively small file.
h,264 is a subset of the MPEG4 standard.
A h.264 movie can live in a MOV container, an MP4 container, a M4V container, and perhaps others, like AVI.
By default, iMovie creates h.264 files in the m4v container for LARGE and smaller. For 720P and 1080P. it creates h.264 in a MV container.
You can tweek the defaults by SHARE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME

  • Panasonic HC V720 compatible with iMovie

Can someone let me know if the Panasonic HC V720 camcorder is compatible with the latest version of iMovie.

If you are using iMovie with the lates version '11, you can know the answer from the site "http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html"
You will find Panasonic HC-V720 (Both PAL nad NTSC) is compatible with iMovie 11. But you should notice that iMovie does not support footage recorded in 1080-50p/60p from this Camcorder. You'd better avoid shooting videos in the formats.
If you have got some these videos and wanna editing them for sharing, you can use FCP X, Adobe, Sony Vegas, ect NLE's to work with1080-50p/60p recordings, or you can convert MTS to iMovie's native format (AIC) before importing to iMovie.

  • Why is a video clip from iphoto not compatible with imovie?

i have a video clip in iphoto and when i try to add it by dragging it into the videos in imovie, it says "the file will not be imported. it is not compatible with imovie". this video clip was taken with my friend's point and shoot type camera, then put on her computer, then put on a flash drive, then put on my computer. thank you so much for any help!

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Some "..point and shoot.." cameras create movies in an iMovie-compatible ".mov" format, but others create .avi files, or they record in the MPEG-1 format which iMovie can't unscramble.
Not all point and shoot movies are compatible with iMovie, even if they play using Apple's QuickTime movie player which iPhoto relies on.
These non-compatible movies need to be converted to .mov format, or some other compatible format such as DV or AIC, before trying to import them into iMovie. If you have QuickTime Pro, you can just open the movie clips and then use 'Export' to save them in the .mov format.
..More details from me - or others - later; I'm dashing out right now for a bite to eat..

  • Is the Panasonic HDC SD 90 camcorder compatible with Final Cut Pro X

Is the Panasonic HDC SD camcorder compatible with FCP X?

Seems to me that the software on an apple system has not caught up to where it could be for this camera, unless i'm mistaken.
Nor Adobe, nor Avid. Nor any makers of DVD players, BluRay, HD DVD. Nor broadcasters who air shows. Nor web formats.
60p isn't a format that is mastered either. Not to tape, not broadcast over the air, not a format you encode to BluRay or regualr DVD...not a web format. So why you'd shoot a format that you can't even deliver...seems pointless. 1080 is either 23.98fps, or 29.97fps. It is 720p that is 59.94fps...but that is used rarely. But that is the only 60 frame format that has output and airable options.

  • External Drive not compatible with iMovie

I just purchased a WD My Book 500gb drive to store home videos I'm editing in iMovie. The drive shows up in the event library with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the center. If I try to drag events to the drive I get the following message "volume is not compatible with iMovie." I have searched the discussion board, but have only succeeded in totally confusing myself. I'm sure this is probably a simple matter, but I can't seem to untangle it... Please help.

  • Does anyone know if the Sony hx50V camera is compatible with iMovie?

Since I've had my iMac it has been hard finding a digital camera that has what I want and is compatible with my iMac.  I take lots of pictures and videos, especially at concerts and I have been through quite a few cameras and have not been satisfied with the results.  I have bought Panasonic brands and Canon because they were compatible with iMovie, but the pics and videos have been very disappointing.  For me it seems Sony cameras are the best but from past experience, some don't work with iMovie.  There is a new one that I would love to purchase, the Cybershot HX-50V.  It has great reviews and everything I am looking for in a camera.  But it doesn't specify if it will open the videos in iMovie.  If anyone has this camera, please let me know what you think of it and if it is compatible.  Or maybe some other suggestions.  I'm looking for a camera that is small and compact that has high zoom and good in low light.  Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

The Cybershot HX50V uses SD or SDHC cards as well as Sony's proprietary cards, the MS duo. If using SD, you can remove the card from the camera and put it in the SD card slot in your iMac.
The card will appear as a drive on your desktop (assuming you have Finder preferences set to show external disks on desktop).  You should then be able to import the files directly into iMovie.
    Here is some further info:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2153
Before filming something important, experiment with file type settings to ensure your camera is recording in a format that iMovie will recognise.
A general point about filming concerts (aside from the obvious ones about getting permission and ensuring copyright is not breached) - getting decent images (still or video) is difficult even with a really good camera. Lighting tends to be low so you end up having to use slow shutter speeds which means camera shake is a big problem - a good tripod (and a solid place to stand it) is essential.  Getting close enough to film is also a problem.  I have used a Canon SLR with top quality lenses (L series) wide angle and telephoto and with apertures up to f2 and still struggled to get images I am happy with. My photos tend to be of Brass Bands and these are comparatively well lit (when compared with rock concerts and the like).
