  • Apple TV good option for renting movies?

I'm thinking of getting the Apple TV and one of the things I'd be looking to do on it would be to rent movies.  Is it a good option for renting movies?  If so, is there a huge selection of rentals?  Any help or advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

There is plenty to choose from with New Releases and a decent back catalogue. It all depends on what you're looking for. Time it takes to load depends on your network (2.5mbps for SD, 6mbps for instant 720P, 8mbps for 1080P). It will be 'ready to play' once enough has loaded in order to play without interuption.

  • Oracle White Paper- Storage Option for RAC. on Linux

    hi..
This in reference with White Paper.. Stotage Option for RAC on LINUX. Author- Umadevi Byrappa.
Which states on page 10: To Use NAS for RAC database file storage select the file system storage option in OUI. or the Clustered file system storage option in DBCA.
With which i disagree. File storage option of oracle 10g RAC only shows.
    1. Clustered File system.
    2. ASM
    3. Raw Devices.
When i try to select Cfs and select the shared directory on NFS it says. < Directory_Name> is not a clustered file system or Shared on Both <Server_1> < Server_2>. and at this point of time i m stuck.
    1. I dont want to use OCFS as its not supporting NAS.
    2. Selecting CFS doesnt recognise mounted shared volume as valid storage device option can only store OCRfile and CSS file.
    3. So, I have to use ASM.. with zero padded files..which i dont want to because no other option. ( PART NO. B10766-02 PAGE C-6)
Also, I would like oracle to provide Back up Recovery Option or Document which tells me how could i Recover Database when i use Zero Padded Files.
What would be the best Option in the above scenario ?
I hope by applying patch or with workaround somehow it shows Filesystem ONLY.I'll be the happiest man in this Case.
Any suggestions and corrections are most welcome. I wish i m wrong.
    Nadeem ( [email protected] )

NFS isn't a clustered file system at all - by RFC it is an exported file system with access controls
If your vendor offers an NFS solution over and beyond that - more power to them. However that isn't "NFS"..
    http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3010.html
You can use NFS in a clustered server environment (to mount apps, read only data and for synchronous access to files), however it doesn't support the concurrency out of the box for RDBMS transactions - if a vendor is supporting this promise then that is for you to decide.
However i stand by my statement that NFS is a file system exported across your network and not a full clustered file system.

  • Guide me to learn Oracle APPS Technical

    Hi All,
I am currently working on Forms and Reports.
I am very much interested to move into Oracle Apps Technical.
Can anyone guide me where to start and which books to follow.
    Appreciate your Help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Maddy.

    Maddy,
What do you mean by technical? Are you referring to Apps DBA role or Functional role? Please note that there is a big difference between the two roles, and I suggest you refer to the following thread for more details:
    Technical vs. Functional
    Technical vs. Functional
If you are planning to move to the Apps DBA (technical) field, I would suggest you start with Oracle Apps Documentation.
    Applications Releases 11i and 12
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/applications.html
    - Oracle Applications Concepts
    - Oracle Applications Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install
    - Maintaining Oracle Applications Documentation Set
    - Oracle Applications System Administrator's Documentation Set
Once you get familiar with the architecture and the different components of Oracle Apps, consider the following:
    - Do an Apps installation yourself (on Linux/Windows)
    - Set up users/responsibilities/printers/CM ..etc
    - Practice Cloning
    - Apply Patches
    - Practice AutoConfig to manage system configurations
    - Upgrade Database/Application
Go for Oracle Apps training if you can afford it. Moreover, consider to get the following books:
    (Oracle Applications DBA Field Guide)
    http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Applications-DBA-Field-Guide/dp/1590596447
(Installing, Upgrading and Maintaining Oracle E-Business Suite Applications Release 11.5.10+)

Oracle Applications DBA Covers 11i and R12

Oracle blogs are good source of information; there are plenty of blogs available now:

  • Is Data Guard good option for Operational Reports

One of our DBA has suggested to have data guard to produce real time or nearly real time(15 min. delay) operational reports, by which we can remove the load on OLTP system. Is it a good practice to use data guard for reporting purpose? what if Production OLTP system goes down (planned or unplanned maintenance), will data guard act as production OLTP database? Can any one in this forum provide some help to understand data guard concept?

Whether this is a good option or not depends on a lot of factors - including which version of Oracle you are using, and what your operating system you have selected.
In it's simplest form, Data Guard is the controller for hot standby synchronization and database failover. But, once you have a hot standby you may want to use it for other things. That additional use involves compromise - for example, while the standby is used for reporting, it is not applying the sync'ing data [as  fast] and there could be unacceptable delays.
I encourage you to start with the Oracle portal for Data Guard and get familiar with come of the white papers. Move forward to the documentation and the forum dedicated to the technology.

  • Oracle Apps 11i - Pasta Setup for Barcode print in rdf file

    Hi All,
Since last some days i am trying to setup Oracle Apps 11i to print barcode reports (RDF files)  from concurrent manager.
If anybody have any idea about how to configure pasta to print post script files which support barcode, please suggest.
I have already read many documents but not able to do that. In one of pasta document i found that, pasta support two type of TrueType font. One can be used for regular text and second can be used (bold) for barcode printing. But it shows barcode font as a regular font.
    -Thanks.

  • Is Multimaster Timesten replication a good option for huge data volumes?

    Hi,
There are 3 timesten nodes in our production setup .There will be around 5 million rows in each node initially which will gradually increase to about 10 million.Once our application moves to production, there will be around 50-70 transactions per second in each node , which need to be replicated on to the other node.
Initially we thought of going with Active-Standby-Subscriber replication. However in this case if active and standby node go down, then it will be a site failure case.So is Active-Active (Multimaster replication) configuration a good option ? Will data collision happen when replication happens in both directions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Nithya

Multi-master replication is rarely a good idea. You will get data collisions unless you rigorously partition the workload. Conflict detection and resolution is not adequate to guarantee consistency over time. Recovery back to a consistent state after a failure is complex and error prone. I'd strongly advise against a multi-master setup, especially for a high volume system.
You seem to be concerned that 2 out of the 3 systems may fail resulting in a site outage. The likelihood of that is small if you have set things up with separate power etc. With the A/S pair based approach you would still have query capability if the two master systems failed. The chances of all 3 systems failing is not that much less than of just 2 failing in reality I would say (depending on the reason for the failure).

  • Are Photoshop Express and Lightroom Mobile good options for a Dragon tablet? [was: help me with my tablet]

Hey guys, I ask a question before about my tablet I have a dragon touch and I was told it won't be able to download the photoshop or lightroom. I was told to download photoshop express or lightroom mobile. are those options just as good.

You're referring to this earlier discussion: My tablet isnt downloading the creative cloud
No need to create a new discussion on the same topic. Just go back to the other one and click Reply to keep the conversation going.
Your Dragon tablet runs the Android mobile operating system so you have to run mobile apps on it. You cannot run the full desktop versions since they're not designed to run on your tablet.
Those mobile apps offer similar functionality (but nowhere near everything) to the desktop versions but in an environment which makes sense on a tablet e.g. touch controls.
