Is Leopard the answer?

I have a 12" Mac Powerbook with 867mz processor - I know this meets the minimum specs for Leopard but I am wondering has anyone done it and was there a loss of performance? I am normally wary of minimum specs. I would do an Erase and Install from Panther. I am running Leopard on another computer and love it.

Bruce,
I haven't installed Leopard on an 867mhz processor so I can't tell you for sure about that computer.
I can tell you that memory will probably help.
I installed Leopard on my MacMini core solo with 512 of memory.... It was slow..........
I installed 2 GB of apple memory and what a difference.... This MacMini loads faster than all the rest of my newer machines with core 2 duo processors and 2GB of memory....
Bottom line, the more memory you have the better....

    Hi,
    This is the compatibility list
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
if your iMac is mid2007 or newer - yes.
You will need to upgrade to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) first buy DVD from online apple store
Then to 10.7 Lion - buy and download via Store App included in SL
and then 10.8 Mountain Lion upgrade the same steps as Lion

I, have (5) eMacs, (2) 1 GHz, (1) 1.25GHz, and, (2) 1.42 GHz, Will, I be, able to purchase, A, single copy of, Leopard, to upgrade all my eMacs? I've, tried, to, find, the, answer, to, this, on my own, but to no avail. Any assistance, on this, would be appreciated. Thanks, in advance!

Your biggest problem will be finding a retail copy of the Leopard install DVD. Finding a Family Pack will be even harder.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
The DVD should look like this
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

In mail Snow Leopard, the trash button was red, the unwanted mail orange, there was a type button.  Now the type button is gone, the rest is grey, why?

I mean in OS X Lion of course. Same with Finder window: There used to be a 'Today' option, where has that gone? It was so easy to have an overview of the work you were busy with. Does anybody has a tip?

I'm trying to migrate from mobileMe to iCloud but I have Snow Leopard (the latest version). It looks like Lion is no longer available because Mountain Lion comes out next month (July). The problem is mobileMe ends on June 30th. How can I migrate?
My iphone and my ipad are compatible but when I try to go to icloud on my phone it says to do it on my computer.
I would like to have my calendar, contacts, etc.. all sync like they do now. Is there a way to upgrade before June 30th? If not, will the gap be an issue or will I just be able to buy mountain lion and sync everything?
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

You can buy Lion in the App Store now, but move to iCloud now. If you wait to Mountain Lion, you will only have Mail in Snow Leopard, so you will lose syncing unless you use Lion or Mountain Lion. It's up to you

I have inadvertently infringe copyright on facebook and they have subsequently barred me from uploading any more videos.
The question I need answered is ( and not able to find the answer on any of you help pages).....
Do the following have free copyright to publish on facebook and U Tube?
    1.Garage band sounds?
2.Slide show...Sample music and Theme music?
3.iMovie...iMovie sounds and iLife sounds ie.Medal Ceremony and Memorial etc?
I note one can publish to shared net places directly from iMovie so one assumes these are copyright free for non-profit making and non-comercial use.
It is impossible to contact apple direct. No email address. We put our selves at risk without this knowledge and like applemac, facebook will not communicate direct. Will applemac please take responsibility for copyright/the above that they are all too willing to sell to us but not support us with that knowledge.
I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.2 (2009 bought in 2010)

Thank you Klaus1.The large font, I copied and pasted from my mail box.I'm visually impaired...not to a huge degree but it helps to use the large font.I believe you are right about the copyright on the imac stuff but if facebook decide otherwise, you have to reply electronically to their challenge. If you can't provide a reference directly from the copyright owner then they remove the video.I believe this is a programmed response and no human is involved which now makes it impossible for me to get my video uploading restored. They detect added soundtrack automatically and then challenge. There are many others in the same boat and facebook will not communicate. They have various discussion sites on which I have left messages including Mark Zuckerbergs own facebook but I don't think anyone from facebook ever reads them.I intend to start a second facebook which I can use purely to get my videos uploaded as a lot of my friends enjoy them BUT don't want fall foul of their programming again. If only iMac would put something on the net to this effect.I think it is so unfair that with modern technology it is impossible to contact these large conglomerates personally and receive an email response.I tried emailing [email protected] but I got a failure notice. If you have any ideas on how to get verification from apple direct, I would be very grateful.Thank You.

After having upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard, the following error message pops when I try to access iTunes: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a new version of iTunes".  So, now after the upgrade, I cannot access iTunes.  How do I resolve this??
    Thanks

zepel has it, but perhaps some more detail will help.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

  • The Answer Everyone Has Been Waiting for...

Well, Here's the answer everyone wants!!!!!!
I took my brand-spanking new unibody MacBook Pro 17" machine into Apple. This is what came back:
"Ran Battery diagnostic and both the battery and AC adapter tested fine. Did a bit of digging and there are many customers having this issue since upgrading to Snow Leopard. The 10.6.1 update hasn't solved the and the only solution presented so far is to downgrade back to the original 10.5 system that the machine shipped with. He will need to downgrade from the original system discs that shipped in the box with the machine. Since this is a software issue, it unfortunately isn't covered under warranty."
So, the you know what to do when the next person tells you it's just your battery!

When I fill up the car the tank is past full on the gauge and I drive alot before the gauge moves...although not accurate it gives a person a sense of getting more, When you purchase a new high tech lith poly powered notebook a person would like to see full 100% reached for a few months anyway, even if 1-2% charge is in Apple's favor. Again that warm feeling even though not exactly accurate. After several hours of use I wouldn't realize a few minutes of charge. But I sure notice those minutes off the top (99%. After 3 complete cycles I only reach 99%. I don't know about you but that seems odd.
I've also used Windows notebooks that say 99%. In my experience it is normal.
If you know anything about how li-ion must be charged, you'd know that 99% is normal because you just can't trickle-charge these things. I know what you're getting at with the car tank analogy but technically speaking, that is a completely wrong way of understanding how a li-ion battery works. Neither the drain nor the charge is linear in the way that draining or filling a tank of liquid is.

  • Back in the days of leopard, the dashboard widgets would come to the foreground but you could still see what you were working on.  Now I've updated to mountain lion and the work is no longer visible when I activate dashboard.  Can I change that back?

Go to system preferences, mission control, and unselect "Show Dashboard as a Space".  While you're there, you may want to make dashboard set to a hot corner "Hot Corners" button at the bottom.

  • Workplace Music Solution needed  - is an Apple TV the answer?

    Hi.
I have a design studio with 11 designers using the space, all on apple desktops or laptops and most have iphones.
I want to set up a centrally acessible speaker system so everyone can log-in and decide what music to play.
This would need to include output from iPlayer streams, Spotify and Last.fm as well as iTunes which is why I thought out Airport Express might not work without AirFoil or similar.
Is an Apple TV the answer?
I was in the apple store today and one of the assistants mentioned it had a "party mode" that multiple iOS clients could use?
Will this work for multiple Lion and Snow Leopard users as well?
    Thanks in advance

EDIT: Just re-read your post. This won't work for Soptify or Last.fm, just iTunes
We use iTunes DJ (Party mode) like this at work sometimes. I don't know that you can control it from a Mac but it works from iOS devices. Basically you would have a Mac running iTunes hooked up with a cord to the stereo system. People then would use their iPads/iPhones/iPod touches to suggest songs to play that are on the main itunes library.
You could also use AirPlay on the Central iTunes computer (an old mac in a server room, for example) and use an Airport Express to receive the stream and be connected to the stereo with a cord.
Apple TV only allows optical audio or HDMI output, so that is a limitation for you.
There may be other ways to do this, but that is the easiest way I can think of.
