Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production

Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production?

Standard disclaimer: We don't represent Oracle. Your situation may be different because of specific wording in your particular Oracle contract, because of differences in licensing regimes over the years, because of laws in your particular country, etc. If you have a serious licensing question, you really need to address it to Oracle Sales. Explaining that some guy on the internet told you it was OK is going to be cold comfort if you're ever audited by Oracle and they disagree with my interpretation...
In general, no, you don't need a separate client license. The database is generally licensed to support a number of named users and/or all the users that a certain hardware configuration can support. Assuming the person using the Oracle client is connecting to a properly licensed database (and that they are one of the named users if that is the licensing regime), you shouldn't need a separate license.
There may be slightly different rules if we're talking about developers connecting to the database because of the "Oracle Programmer" set of licenses that appears on pricing sheets that I've never fully understood.

  • License required for Oracle 10g Release 2 ODAC 10.2.0.2.21

There is one oracle developer tool(ODP.net driver) available for download on Oracle website named as "Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio .NET with Oracle 10g Release 2 ODAC 10.2.0.2.21" link
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/downloads/index-101290.html
We required this tool for development purpose like "application connectivity with Oracle DB". Please let us know is this freeware or any license required for using this tool, If required what is the cost of that license.
Please help me in this. I tried to contact with Oracle support team. but the unable to answer my query.

    A few things:
    1) The latest version is 11.2.0.1.2. This will work with database versions back to 9.2. You do not have to select a ODT or ODP.NET version that matches your database version.
    2) All of the .NET products are free and can be used by you in your application.
    3) You automatically get technical support for the .NET products if you have support for Oracle Database.
    Thanks,
    Christian

  • What's the latest patch for oracle 10g client?

what's the latest patch for oracle 10g client? 6810189?

The same as the patch for the Oracle database of the same version and operating system. Since you didn't specify the operating system or the particular Oracle version (10g could mean 10.1 or 10.2), it's hard to be more specific.

  • Is a license required for Oracle 11g installed on private developer box?

    Hello,
I wish to install Oracle 11g on my personal computer to test some software that hits a database. Will I be able to install/run 11g on my machine for this use, or will it (eventually) prompt me for a license key? If I need a license, is there a free developer license available? I can't seem to find any info on this.
How is the licensing structured around the 11g "XE" BETA (express edition)? Is there a licensing difference between XE and non-XE?
And finally, is there a good summary of what features are missing from the XE edition? I tried installing 10g XE, and for example, the "DEFAULT TABLESPACE xxx" SQL command was not recognized. I need this 'feature' (as well as others). I'm assuming I'm going to need to install the full 11g release, but I hope there is no license required.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

The general license agreement is here - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/standard-license-152015.html
In short, yes - you can download the software and use it for testing/prototyping.

  • License terms for Oracle SQL client

    Hi,
Is Oracle SQL client free of charge ?
if not, what is the license policy for this small application ?
    thanks a lot,
    Al.

What you mean 3 licenses for 8.1.7 ?
I don't think you can only buy 3 named user license for Oracle DB server.
    Oracle client <> SQL*plus
SQLpus is only one of the utilities that included in Oracle client package.
If you have concurrent user license, you can install as many Oracle client you want but any given time only 3 concurrent session can connect to database.
When you download the Oracle client from Oracle website, there's full Term and Agreement you need to accept before proceed.

  • Is a DB license required for EM 10G repository database?

We purchasedOEM10G Grid Control. We're planning to deploy OMS and Repository on a standalone Linux box (which has no other RDBMS running on it), while agents will be spread accross other target Unix boxes. OEM10G comes with a repository database. Do we need a separate license for this repository database on Linux? Can not locate the answer on Oracle Home site.

My impression from what I have read in the manuals is you can run the OMS and repository on a seperate machine and not pay license (RDBMS or Grid Control) for it. You will be paying Grid Control license for all the monitored machines where you have your business applications running. Talk to you sales rep before you proceed because my interpretations will not protect you when Oracle comes after you for more money.

  • License for Oracle Unix client

Let say I have an application running on Unix 64bit (SunOS,HPUX or AIX) accessing a DB with proC, php or jdbc OCI.
From XE doc I understood that it is possible to have the DB running Oracle XE on Linux 32bit and the application connecting to the DB with Oracle SE or EE Client from Unix 64bit.
What license is required for Oracle Unix client?
Is the configuration above free (or am I naive)?

As least Oracle instance client is Free according to Oracle.

  • Oracle 10g Client and ODAC Side-By-Side

Hi there, I was unable to find an answer to my query by using search, but apologies if this is a double-post.
I'm having some issues with a ASP.NET application running on a Windows XP Pro machine. The machine has Oracle 10g client installed (oraClient10g_home1), and also ODAC (ODACHome2).
The part of my web application that accesses our Oracle DB (10g), always gets a ORA-12154 error when it tries to connect, but SQL*Plus and tnsping for this TNS both work on the machine.
When I use tnsping from the command line it looks like its using parameter files from the ODAC home, rather than the 10g client home.
On my development machine (where ODAC is not installed), the application works fine.
Does anyone have any idea if there are any issues having both of these clients installed?
Or otherwise where my problem could be?
    Thanks very much in advance,
    James Simm

Thanks for the link, however it hasn't solved my issues:
The version of ODP.Net installed is 10.2.0.2.20, and the Oracle Client is 10.2, so according to that link it should be able to automatically switch between Oracle Homes.
The application I'm troubleshooting doesn't actually use ODP.Net, it uses System.Data.OracleClient, but ODP.Net is required for another application.
I'm extremely stuck, as I cannot understand why I'm getting ORA-12154 when every other Oracle application on the machine can access it.
Please let me know if there are any other things I can try, or if you need any information from me?
    Thanks in advance,

  • (again) oracle 10g client and oracle 10g express in one computer

hi again, sorry if this question looks like a double post to you.
Well this is quite embarassing yet still make some headache for me. I have my office PC installed with Oracle 10g client using admin component option, for connecting some application with database on remote server. Now, after I have developed some basic map using Oracle 10g Express on my home PC, I want to test it in my office network. But everytime I tried to install Oracle Express, it web interface will working normally while all other aplication can no longer connected with remote server from the client. If I remove Oracle Express, all client connection will working again as if nothing happened. I already created Microsoft LoopBack connection using IP 10.10.10.10, edit TNSNAMES.ORA, etc that could possibly helpful but nothing fixed. Strangely, if I install Oracle 10g Database version, all connection to remote server working again, and map application also working. But this kind of installation takes up all my PC resources (grrrr!). Any more suggestion?
    best regards
    net2surfin

I'm sorry if the information not accurate, but the client connection made by application which try to connect is simply "not resolved" and show no error code/number at all. I'll try to connect from sqlplus though, maybe the error number will be known from this way.
About 10.10.10.10 tcp loopback, I got this work around from here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/reqs.htm#BABGCEAI
in the Ora Database Preinstallation requirement, where it states like this:
+16.In the Properties dialog box, click Use the following IP address and do the following:+
a.IP Address: Enter a non-routable IP for the loopback adapter. Oracle recommends the following non-routable addresses:
    +■192.168.x.x (x is any value between 0 and 255)+
+■10.10.10.10+ <---- this is the value suggested that I've been used in my home PC
    b.Subnet mask: Enter 255.255.255.0.
c.Record the values you entered, which you will need later in this procedure.
    d.Leave all other fields empty.
    e.Click OK.
I'll try to remove the loopback later and see the ORA environment, to see the result. In the mean time, all suggestions is highly appreciated.
    thank you n best regards

  • Oracle Data Provider for Oracle 10g

We have an application certified on the ODP 9.2.0.2102, Oracle Client and Oracle ODBC 9.2.0.6. We have a client who is moving to Oracle 10g client within the next few months but will still be hitting an Oracle 9.2 backend.
My question is: Is the 9.2.0.2102 ODP compatible with the 10g client, or do we need to certify against a newer version of the ODP? And if the latter, what version of ODP is recommended?
We plan to certify against the latest of both this year, but for now, we need the path of least resistence.
    Thanks for your help.
    Todd

It is not "hard" to create your own geocoding schema though you will need to know how to create tables (with Oracle Spatial columns) in Oracle and before you do create the tables you should read through the documentation to be certain you have all of the required data and metadata.
Navteq, a data provider, also has sample geocoding data (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/spatial/htdocs/spatial_partners_data.html) as well as data for sale. Downloading and importing the Navteq data might give you a good idea about what you will need to do if you were to build your own geocoding schema using your data.
    I hope this helps.

There was a regression introduced in 3.5.1 where the Main-class attribute of the Coherence.jar was changed to a different main class leading to this effect.
The workaround is to specify the main class as part of the command line.
Assuming your current directory is the coherence home directory:
    Start a cache server:
java -cp lib/coherence.jar com.tangosol.net.DefaultCacheServer Start the command line:
java -cp lib/coherence.jar com.tangosol.coherence.component.application.Console And the above is basically what the coherence.sh/.cmd and cache-server.sh/.cmd scripts do.
