Is Lightroom Desktop the same as Lightroom 5?

Can anyone help, I am looking at the subscriptions for Photoshop and Lightroom but want Lightroom 5 - please can anyone confirm that the desktop version is the same?

Lightroom 5 is sold as a perpetual license and also by subscription through the creative cloud. Both are the same software just the licensing procedure is a little different, the perpetual license is manually inserting the 24 numeric number and the CC version will get automatically input when it is downloaded through the Adobe Application Manager.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see the Perpetual License version. (see the screen capture.

  • Download error. Tap to retry.     Why? I have a wifi and still the same message?

Download error. Tap to retry.... Why? I have a wifi connection and still the same message, and even connected to desktop the same for ipad. Help :-)

I'm getitng the same thing.  I'm beyond sick of this iPad.  It's a third generation Retina Display and it turned into a pile of cat turds after iOS 7.  It got so bad I restored it and used iCloud. It was still god awful.  I restored it and didnt use the iCloud backup and hoped that whatever was wrong would be avoided....nope.  IF I can get a download going it nearly kills my entire iPad.  I will open the cover and wait over 30 seconds just for the screen to light up.  I will hit the home button to close an app and wait nearly a minute in some cases for it to actually close.  Then to top off all the annoyances it just fails and loops over and over.
I bought Apple products to avoid stuff like this.  Very unhappy.

  • Can multiple computers (e.g. my desktop & laptop) use the same Lightroom catalogue?

I'm debating between the Cloud version of Lightroom 5 versus a regular upgrade. If I go to the Cloud, will my desktop and laptop be able to access and seamlessly work off the same LR catalogue? I'd be grateful for a speedy answer since I'm interesting in the rapidly expiring Photography offer. Thanks!

Yes, you can have as many devices - iPhones, iPods, iPads - as you like using the same iTunes account.

    Hi Sailor,
It is pretty amazing you got a new version without even knowing it.
In System Preferences > App Store you can turn off the automatic updates by unchecking "Install app updates" as I've done here:
If you're using Numbers across platforms and displaying dynamic output on the iPad or doing data entry there, you'll be *much* happier with Numbers 3.0 than the old version. If you're doing a lot of traditional printing of heavily formatted documents, the old version is much better.  For most day-to-day uses in between it's a toss-up.  The new version, despite its flaws, is a powerful application that can enhance productivity in ways the old version can't.
For more on the differences between the two, see the features gained, features lost, and workarounds threads, plus Apple's support document on features to be reintroduced in the coming months .

  • Technical question:  Is it possible to work on the same Lightroom catalog across two computers and have the catalog sync? If so, how??

    Technical question:
Is it possible to work on the same Lightroom catalog across two computers and have the catalog sync? If so, how??
Here's a little more information on what I am trying to do.
I have a desktop computer with 4tb worth of pictures that has Lightroom and Photoshop on it. I also have a laptop with Photoshop and Lightroom. I would like to be able to edit those same pictures with their current edits that are currently on my desktop on my laptop. If this can be done, I'm sure I need to be on the same wifi network for my laptop to be able to access my desktop's photo library. I am technically savvy enough to map a network drive, but how do I get my two Lightroom catalogs to sync when I make a change on one of my computers? Would i be working only on one catalog? Or two separate catalogs that would need to be manually synced to the other computer? Would it be beneficial to put my lightroom catalog on something like dropbox?
I'd appreciate any information or tutorials if someone knows how to do this.

I do this by having my LR catalog and photos on an external drive that I swap between the two computers.  I am on Windows and have the same drive letter assigned to the drive on both computers.
Because the photos are on a portable drive I back up the portable drive to another hard-drive every night or after important work, because portable drives are susceptible to damage or loss.

  • Why files in Lightroom mobile and files in the creative cloud not the same? idea-  one place(stored date) for all application ??????

Why files in Lightroom mobile and files in the creative cloud not the same? idea- one place(stored date) for all application ??????

Lightroom Mobile is not a cloud storage service. You shouldn't treat it as a way of backing up your files. You are merely storing Smart Previews of your files in the cloud space, high-quality JPEGs of your files regardless of their original format on your desktop. The point is that they are there so you can continue editing them in a Lightroom-like environment even while away from your desktop/laptop computer. The files in Lightroom Mobile can only be used in Lightroom Mobile.
This is very different from what is offered by the Creative Cloud storage, which can be used to synchronize your files between any device (that can support the individual files).
The vast difference in how each service works and its intended use is why they are separate.

  • Lightroom 3 Trial is the same in quality as Final Version?

I have here the option to buy Lightroom 3 as my first choice in application for Adobe Software in environment desktop for 32 Bits acknowledge. I'm seeing here posterior versions have it 32 Bits as secondary standard option in 64 Bits version. I'm enthusiasmed about that in characteristic, cause I will not gonna loose the interactivity I have within dot point pixelization in 32 Bits for a posterior version. But I'm not really alarmed about that for newer versions, thinking about that as I still having it in the new features and the environment it presents for Lightroom 3 in flowing support for 32 Bits. But Something (not only talking about the processing in quality for 64 Bits) still regards for the trial I'm testing in 32 Bits for Lightroom 3 as Trial Application. It works as it responds gracious like it has made in functioning for the response 32 Bits have.
But the point of this thread is the question I have about the quality it assists as 32 Bits Floating Point for the definition in the trial Version. - I have experienced something like Photoshop 6 and something about the same thang about functionality or the half about main features; Photoshop CS2, which is a tremendous experience in image edition and about both is my first choice in quality and response for image Software. - I had liked a lot, and in both version I had nothing to complain about the dot point pixelized and processing manufactured as program. But the environment show's it as it duet for be showed as something knowledgeable as main understanding for response in magnificence and originality of masterization.
Ok, it's hard to understand pictures as masterizing, but knowing that about manufacturing we gonna see there in time that magnification always posterize after effects. Photoshop is great in quality, What I'm wanting to mean about that phenomenon which I held before to now days told to think for, just like Adobe have it, maybe to think as probability to co-exist in my own dignifcation.
I have here too a Nikon Camera, which transpose awesome pictures, and their software included (nView) is just great talking about resolution and a new step in technology for pixel taste, I have nothing related than my new experience with it in pictures. It's just futuristic and do it majestically with what it have, it's limited, but perfect! It still do not concerns as compression and noise rate like Adobe Lightroom do. And only are updating for those which are 64.
Well done, but knowing that about Adobe Lightroom, Lightroom 3 in Trial Version is giving nice environment and fast applicable response to my well liked Windows 32 Bits, but it's not having the quality I'm specting for in-vision as final art, I'm wanting that post to know if it's not responding as Final Art because it's Trial version, or it's about the third version, which do not have the complexion for the mean Final 3rd version i have as option to buy.
I know that will programming, and may in support, and public opinion will encourage-me to find that about 64 Bits Version more defined and responsible. May posterior versions which includes 32 Bits, will have the response I need about too. but just like the up-desk to 64 Bits, may it are less for the functioning in 32 Bits, which I already have as perfection for my Nikon in Raw file able. Instead I am wrong about that opinion in posterior versions for Adobe Lightroom 32 Bits.
Whatever, I have to choose and do it for, but I'm from the time which computer stereolize more the enthusiastic points about the knowledge we can have for the application, than the usability we can have for about the update. It's something significable too... But it's not the stereotype for man kind, as the place I have for it. Unless it dislike and hovering override the situation.
Whether it are more than ever,  I will just follow the rout and mark the point for what I can represent as possible and knowledgeable as util a software like Lightroom 3 can be, or aren't, just like I am wanting to know.

    Which camera?
If it's quite new, Lightroom 3 will not support it. You would instead have to use the Adobe DNG converter to convert the camera's files to DNG format, which Lightroom 3 will be able to use.
But if it's a very new camera, the latest versions of the DNG converter (from version 8.4) are 64 bit too, I believe (and are definitely only Windows 7/Windows 8 compatible) - you'd have to use 8.3 for 32 bit (and Win XP, if you're using that OS) support, and that version might not recognise your camera.
This Nikon seems to be supported; I'm trying to have it as secret by now about the model...:-) But it's there in Lightroom 3 Trial with some exceptions. I will try that about the DNG converter. My Camera is upon the desktop.

  • Can I have both Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 5 both installed on the same computer?

Can I have both Lightroom 3 and Lightroom 5 both installed on the same computer? I like the "fill light" feature in 3 and use it a lot. I would have not gotten 5 except that the images from my new Canon 5D Mk III are not re4cognized on 3. I have 5 on a laptop and 3 on my desktop but would like to have both on my desktop .

Yes you can do this, but you can also get rid of Lightroom 3 and use the "Fill Light" command in Lightroom 5. You need to set the Process Version to 2010 (default is 2012 in Lightroom 5). Use the menu command  Settings > Process > 2010
But honestly, you would be wise to stop using "Fill Light", as the new sliders in Lightroom 5 produce superior image quality than anything you can come up with using "Fill Light". Yes, the new sliders take a little time to get used to, but your patience and effort learning the new sliders will be rewarded. You can find some tutorials and videos on using Process Version 2012 on that Internet thing.

    Hi Owe Olsson,
If you have Lightroom 5 Subscription then you can install and activate it on 2 machines. You just have to download Creative Cloud Desktop apps from the below mentioned website and use your Adobe ID and password to activate.

  • Upgraded to 5.4 when opening lightroom get a message "encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and need to quite" tried this several time but get the same eror message

Upgraded to 5.4 when opening lightroom get a message "encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and need to quite" tried this several time but get the same error message.  Says Lightroom will attempt to fix the problem the next time it launches but that is not happening.  How do it fix this?

Delete the preview cache using your operating system. It is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not delete the Lightroom catalog, which ends with .LRCAT

  • When my lightroom opens up I keep getting an error message that states, "Lightroom encountered an error whne reading from its preview  cache and needs to quit" I have relaunched it a number of times and keep getting the same message.

You need to delete your preview cache and have Lightroom rebuild it.   Cache location can be found here.
