Is Live Update helpful yet, or still more problems than fixes?

my 180 has been running decently for a while now. The only thing that still makes me want to hang myself is this asinine problem with the sound card occasionally disappearing, requiring an unplugged reboot.
I shut off live update a while back because it seemed to create more problems than it fixed. can anyone confirm whether there is anything in there that addresses the sound card issue?
Also, there appears to be a new BIOS featuring an option to "Enable USB Keyboard Latency". I am currently using a wireless USB keyboard and mouse with no problems. Do I care about the new BIOS?

all other are up to date with live update. I have been very gun shy about letting it update these, since it seemed to cause so much trouble over the summer. Can anyojne shed some light on whether these updates are necessary?

okay, i guess it is a deluxe model. i initially thought the deluxes were the ones that could run dvds in hifi mode.
anywho, it finally lost the sound card again. it was an interesting feeling being excited about it for once, because i could continue this thread.
the speaker icon in the taskbar disappeared, and the nvidia drivers vanished from "sound, video, and game controllers" device manager (both nforce codec and nforce processor). msi live update doesn't find anything new, but just for giggles i clicked "update driver" from the properties tab on both, and windows was able to find new drivers.
at this point, i assume that noone has found a solution, so I'll keep updating this thread for those who are fellow sufferers.
Another thought on the heat issue, the outside temps hit 66 degrees fahrenheit today (who said january?), so i wonder if that raised the temp in the cabinet just enough?

Update 7.3.1 causing more problems than solutions?

I'm not sure what the new update was meant to do but once I updated to 7.3.1, my transfer rate lowered drastically
I used to have 4-6 MB/s originally before the update
But on the same day, once I updated it and nothing else changed, it lowered to less than 1 MB/s
Can someone tell me what's so great about the update and if I could downgrade this machine?

Change your wireless channel, 9 or 3 are usually good. What kind of internet do you have, you may need it in bridged mode. Your issue is issolated to your network if you had two of them with issues because mine works fine and so do about 990,000 more. Hard reset the base station, use WPA2 encryption, channel 9, and disable both SNMP and configuration over WAN. All of these settings can be easily found within Manual setup if you play around a little... or just call AppleCare, the mac genious's are there to help to. See if it has the same problem in a different environment, I'd bet it has something to do with your settings, possibly a double nat.

Hi, sill no joy with my sound on my iPad .the sound only works on one app ( Annie ) and the ring volume and it works for about 5 seconds after I switch it on . Was talking to apple and they said the reset my iPad and this will fix it .done this and it is still not working only with earphone and Annie. What next ?As they said this is unheard of as it was the upgrade to iso6 that caused this problem . Help

When my itunes automatically updated last week it failed. I then got all the error messages everyone else is getting. I followed a link on here and moved certain files onto my desktop and rebooted. No luck. I then followed the next step it suggested and uninstalled itunes. When I go to reinstall it the download never happens. It goes as far as save to file then never really downloads. My other friends who've had the same issues went straight to download and it worked. I'm so frustrated plus the same time all of this happened my sound disappeared. I've checked all my wires and went into the control panel to check all the settings and everything seems fine. Don't know what to do now.

BT not helping yet with my broadband problem - Is ...

I do hope someone can help. I have been a customer of BT for over 20 years and have used BT broadband for about 5 years. In the last month our service has been very poor.
I can still get onto the internet, check emails and surf sites (slowly), but it has become almost impossible to watch any movies (lovefilm) or watch iplayer or youtube. Perhaps 1 time in 5 it will load and play a video without any problems, but only for about 10 minutes at the most. Then they will fail to carry on loading and freeze up.
I was using an old home hub 1.5
I switched the modem router to a netgear DG834 I had and there was no improvement.
Then I "upgraded" to a home hub 3 for the last 2 days, but there has been no improvement.
I can't get the Indian Call centre to give me any Broadband help right now, because they are saying they can't access my account information, becasue I am still on an old BT backend system call Smart Accounts.
Anyway, they are trying to migrate my account information. But the UK team are saying they may not be able to migrate the back-end data because one of my lines is an auxilliary line. (This is not on my broadband line. I have two telephone numbers into my house. One number has an auxilliary line on it and the other number has my broadband on it. I have had this service for nearly 10 years as I need this flexibility as I do a lot of work from home. I also pay an arm and a leg for these lines etc).
So because of this "old" system I have not been able to get the Indian Support Centre to send round an engineer as they can't book it on the system. The UK people can't book an engineer as this is booked via India they say.
So after more than 10 hours on the phone to various departments I am stuck in limbo land, paying a lot of money for lines and broadband, the latter now working very poorly.
So what can I do? If I just refuse to pay the next bill when it comes I I will just get cut-off and be tossed aside.
I just want my broadband to be sorted out and to carry on happy as larry, just like before.
I am 99% confident that the problem isn't my computers ( I am quite well trained, but admittedly not an expert ).
When I look at the summary data of my broadband connection, it always seems to be quite consistent. It usually says this:

Thanks for the replies.
I am using ethernet.
I have tried from 3 different computers on my network and it is no better on any computer.
My main computer is also directly connected via ethernet into the back of the home hub and the other modems/routers I have tried. All give poor perfformance when trying to something needing better bandwidth, such as a movie etc or a bbc news video etc.

Follow up on UA-25 and still more problems

When connecting a UA-25 pre-amp to your eMac have the UA-25 switches set correctly in order for GarageBand to allow you to set your sound preferences. For me, I had to have the sample rate set to 44.1, the rec/play button on play and the advance switch set to on.
BUT I STILL HAVE LEVEL PROBLEMS. My acoustic still won't record a robust signal. What is going on? I have all my levels jacked to eleven and I can barely get a good recording. Help?
Once again, within the past week I recorded one song with hot levels and now I am scraping the bottom instead of have a full, wide signal showing itself to me in GarageBand.

Clearly you're going through the mill here ....
If you've studied enough information on the various forums and what other people have told you....
You will have learned this much...
That the broadband is line adaptive ... in other words the linespeed and throughput depend on the condition of the connection.
Your attenuation (loop loss) governs the maximum throughput ... but as well as that you need a quiet line.
You line has 15db+ of SNRm applied to it ... when in fact it should be around 6db if the line was noise free.
Noise comes from 2 places ... on the network (line) ... and in the home.
Seeing that you've had numerous engineer visits ... let's assume the line is quiet.
You can test it yourself to some degree by dialling 17070 option 2 .... a quiet line test. It needs to be quiet.
If the line is quiet ... the induced noise has to be coming from stuff at home .... things like power supplies, crt monitors, hub too close to TV sets, speakers... and so on.
You have to try and segregate things and get as much power away from the hub and hub line as possible.
Think about what's data .... and what's power ... and seperate them as best you can.
You will have already seen posts about the test socket ... and benefits of it .... if the noise is in the home, the test socket will prove it ... you will see improvement, and if it does you know you have work to do.
If you then after all that find nothing ... you have to think about what's close by outside .... sodium street lamps next to.. or on ... the telephone pole, transformers, substations, overhead high voltage cables ... ans so on.
The fact is ... you do have noise, and it's strangling the broadband.
Cure that ... your problems go away.

ITunes keeps crashing and won't let me update to ios 5 + many more problems with iTunes

Here is alist of all my problems:
Whenever I try and sync my iPhone     to my computer it doesn’t work and then my iTunes crashes, there are no     error messages it just freezes and crashes.
After I have done this my iTunes     doesn’t even open and crashes strait away.
My iTunes also crashes     sometimes when I am just trying to move from (for example) music to     movies.
My iTunes also refuses to     access iTunes store (no errors it just doesn’t work).
Sometimes I can get past the     backup issue by cancelling the back up and letting it sync, but no it won’t     even let me do that it freezes and crashes before it can even transfer my purchases.
All thishappens if I can even open up my iTunes.
I amcurrently running ios 4.3.4 as I can even update to ios 5 I am running (tryingto) iTunes 10.5.
I have trieduninstalling and reinstalling iTunes about a 1000 time and it hasn’t doneanything (done as instructed on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923). I havebeen trough tones of pages on the community and on the other support pages thatapple has but I have found no answers. I have also tried to install an olderversion of iTunes but it just comes up with an error message saying all myfiles are configured to iTunes 10.5 and noting work on that either.
This hasbeen going on for ages and I know there is a lot to deal with in this post butplease if anyone has any ideas, knows, or has dealt with any of the above please help.

I just got the iPhone 4. I use Mobil Me to keep my calendar on my phone, computer and iPad. But I cannot get my calendar on my phone to allow me to edit. HELP! I have more problems but I will start here.

There is NOT even an edit button!! I also color coded calendars for all my appointments and the are correct on the calendar but I do not have the option to use this on the phone becasue the color coded calendars are not an option. PLEASE HELP!! I have been dealing with this for several hours!!

5G iPod Software 1.1 Update - More BUGS than FIXES!

I just updated my 5G (mac format) iPod to software version 1.1 and right away noticed that someone bungled up BIG TIME!
To start with -- holding down the MENU button doesn't toggle the backlight anymore!
Next -- try clicking in the NOW PLAYING MENU quickly with the CENTRE BUTTON... Are you seeing stars yet?? The menu repeats itself endlessly.
I dunno how Apple could have gotten this so horribly wrong. I expect iPod Software Update 1.2 for the 5G iPods tomorrow!!

Has anyone found the Video problem yet?
Try playing a video, wait for 20 seconds and then a big fat nothing. Video freezes and then it starts to play but without sound. Has anyone found this to happen. I have re-installed the software several times with the same result.

Does the 9/29/09 update help the 3.1 coma problems?

Itunes told me on 9/29 that there is an update for my iphone. I haven't applied it yet -- I'm afraid it might screw up my phone worse than it already is. After I applied the firmware upgrade to 3.1 a couple weeks ago, I've been having the same "coma" problems that thousands of other people are reporting (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2152619&tstart=0).
So anyway ... has anyone else experiencing the "3.1 coma" problems applied this 9/29 update? Any noticable difference? Are things better or worse?
I won't mind "better" or "no change" ... but I sure don't want to make things worse!

I used the combo update it weighed in at 784MB

Yes. The original iPad cannot be updated beyond 5.1.1.

HT2509 Why has apple not ditch font book yet? The software causes more problems than it is worth using.

How can I ditch font book and remove from my computer? It causes nothing but problems and I prefer to use Font Reserve which runs smooth on my Macbook Pro with Retina.

iOS4 has been working fine for me.

As far as the app, have you contacted the developer to let them know that their game crashes in iOS4?

10.5.4 seems to have more problems than previous versions

i am experiencing a lot more crashes of adobe photoshop (still on cs2) after the installation of leopard 10.5.4. this is very frustrating - random functions start spinning for minutes and then crashes the application. this happens now several times a day.
there are also evidently new issues regarding wireless connections.
anybody who can share these experiences?

CS2 is not rated for Mac OS X 10.5. Consider yourself lucky to have been able to run it on any version of 10.5. You were living on borrowed time while it still ran while you were updating it. CS3 is needed for better (it still isn't perfect) Mac OS X 10.5 compatibility.
As for wireless issues, there have ALWAYS been wireless issues. People just don't know how to isolate them. They have nothing to do with the updates. Data files get corrupted, and make them appear to happen during an update, only because an update expects a healthy system to begin with. If your system is not healthy, don't upgrade until it is healthy. Updates are only for adding new features. They are not there to fix "issues". You need to troubleshoot issues before applying updates.
