Is Logic good for Live session recording?

Hi!
Logic give me many problems.Its can be accepted on studio -BUT NOT IN LIVE!
So is there nice ,stable app. for Live sessions recording?
Thanks!

Hello,
I'm looking into a Muse Receptor for my live performances. I haven't bought it yet (waiting for a bit more cash and some feedback), but I'm mostly likely going to get it by September. According to some it is a must for live occasions.
I've put up a post asking anybody's experience with the machine. Look into it. It is a fair investment.

Good luck.

  • Best setup for live sessions

    Hi!
    1- Can you tell me please if with MainStage 3 i can REALLY play live session with severals VST Instruments loaded inside and a macBook pro i5 + 16G ram?
    There is anyone that play live with MainStage that can tell me something, please?
    2- And then, do you know if exist a reference or glossary Guide for writing my midi script with the script editor...i can't find anything about the language used by mainstage...applescript or javascript or other?!!
    PLEASE give me some informations i'm going crazy ?
    Thanks!

    I've tried using the following (but my info is a few years old!):
    ProTools, once in a gig, quite difficult to set up but easy to use during the gig.  Reliable, but I wouldn't recommend it.  I know someone who did loads of gigs with PT but recently swapped to MS.
    LiveProfessor on a Windows laptop, used once for a gig as well.  Not easy to set up either but it has a time delay feature for controls which may be what you're after in the scripting (e.g. you can fade volume over time say, or adjust a CC number over time).
    Forte on windows, but again, its a host for VSTs rather than a visual representation of what you're doing.  As used by Marillion keys player Mark Kelly.
    Cubase - not used live but for playing around and testing.  Just a host again.  I know a band who used this but it and the hardware proved to be too unreliable and they eventually invested in a Kronos instead.
    Basically for me its the GUI of MS that makes it good, entirely because it displays the keyboard with the layers on top.  This makes it so easy to set everything up and to visually see that its working correctly.  Particularly when I'm under pressure in a rehearsal for example.  All the other solutions above just don't seem to have this type of display, they hide the important things away in text fields etc, which makes it much harder to manage.

  • Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express for voice over recording?

    Hello,
    I am wondering which software is best for voice over work? Sountrack or Logic/Logic Express?
    Any input would be great. I would add the standard effects/filters to certain voice overs and add sound effects and music.
    I have a midi/guitar and garage band is enough for me. I would not want to use Garageband as my software of choice for voice over work. I want markers and other more advanced tools?
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Thanks for the answer.
    I was looking at the Dialogue Tools in Sountrack and they appear to be perfect.
    My main questrion is can record into Sountrack with a mic right? I have an m-audio saphire with a m-audio preamp.
    I saw a demo of Soundtrack at NAB and all the effects looked perfect for voice over. I think Logic Studio is overkill but Sountrack and Logic Express( for my guitar) might be a perfect 1-2 punch. I will get Sountrack with The Final Cut Studio as I need video tools as well.
    Thanks,
    Erik

  • Programming Logic required for pulling the records for past month /week

    Hi All
    I need help in the SQL programming logic.
    Oracle Database Version: 10.2.0.3.0
    Requirement
    In a data warehouse environment, I need to programme for weekly and monthly automated batch jobs to insert the data from Data_tbl to Reporting_tbl for generating reports. Tables descriptions are given below.
    Table1 - Data_tbl (Source table –this table gets updated everyday).
    Record_dt     first_name     last_name
    Table2 - Reporting_tbl_(Target table)
    Cycle_dt     first_name     last_name
    1. Monthly Report
    In the SQL Query, I have where clause condition—
    Where Record_dt >=’01-nov-08’ and record_dt<=’30-nov-08’
    Using the above condition in development, I am pulling the data from source table for the past month data. This will be repeated every month and it should be automated.
    i.e., if I run this report any time in dec 2008, it should pick records of dates from Nov 01st to Nov 30th 2008. if I run this report any time in Jan 2009, it should pick records of dates from Dec 01st to Dec 31st 2008.
    Date Values should be assigned for past month. Value of Cycle_dt in target table should be end date of past month like 30-nov-2008, 31-dec-2008.
    2. Weekly Report
    In the SQL Query, I have where clause condition—
    Where Record_dt >=’01-dec-08’ and record_dt<=’07-dec-08’
    Here week start day is Monday and end day is Sunday.
    If I run the report between Dec 08th to Dec 14th , it should pull records of dates from Dec 01st to Dec 07th 2008.
    On Dec 15th, it should pick from Dec 08th to Dec 14th.
    Value of Cycle_dt in target table should be end date of past week like 07-Dec-2008, 14-Dec-2008.
    Please help me with the logics for both Monthly and Weekly reports.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    For the monthly report, instead of
    Where Record_dt >=’01-nov-08’ and record_dt<=’30-nov-08’say:
    Where   Record_dt >= TRUNC (ADD_MONTHS (SYSDATE, -1), 'MM')
    and     record_dt <  TRUNC (SYSDATE, 'MM')SYSDATE is the current DATE.
    TRUNC (SYSDATE, 'MM') is the beginning of the current month. (Notice the condition above is less than this date, not equal to it.)
    ADD_MONTHS (STSDATE, -1) is a date exactly one month ago, therefore it is in the previous month.
    For the weekly report, instead of:
    Where Record_dt >=’01-dec-08’ and record_dt<=’07-dec-08’say
    Where   Record_dt >= TRUNC (SYSDATE - 7, 'IW')
    and     record_dt <  TRUNC (SYSDATE, 'IW')TRUNC (dt, 'IW') is the beginning of the ISO week (Monday-Sunday) that contains dt. Again, notice the end condition is strictly less than the beginning of the current week.

  • Record Logic + all input live in SoundTrack pro (or other?)

    Hi All,
    I would like to record (into soundtrack pro) live sessions using logic and some inputs from the sound card.
    So of course the best way to do this would be to record all into logic and bounce the file but my live sessions are based on a cycle of various tracks set with certain sounds and/or drum paterns which I use to play live with.
    On top of that I have various inputs for other instruments and mics for vocals which are played from in Logic tracks, ending up with everything coming out of my logic output.
    To record these live sessions I have opened up SoundTrack pro and tried to record from various output but all I can get is the inputs (mics etc) without the Logic tracks.
    I have also tried Soundflower but it gave me a piercing noise when I enabled the inputs in Logic...
    Would anyone have any other idea to share please?
    Thx

    sounds like a feedback loop.
    Anyway, you can try Wiretap Pro, Wiretap Studio, and a few others, the names of which I don't recall at the moment (still on first cup of coffee). You can route and isolate the audio i/o around the machine.

  • Realistic recording expectations for upcoming session

    I'm doing some band recording this weekend and want to get an idea of how many inputs and Logic softsynths I can be recording simultaneously.
    I have an MOTU 828mkII. Our drummer will be bringing a Presonus DigiMAX that we'll be hooking to the MOTU via lightpipe, and I'll be plugging in my Yamaha DG Stomp via the S/PDIF in.
    Odds are we'll be using the 2 mic ins on the MOTU, all 8 Presonus inputs, at least 4 of the line inputs, the S/PDIF in, and likely up to two Logic instruments and maybe a loop or two... all at once. (So, appx. 15 audio signals plus the synths.) We'll be recording at 24/48 (48 is the best the DigiMAX can do).
    Given my system (a brand new dual G5 running 7.1), is this feasible?
    My last system was a G4-upgraded B&W G3 which, naturally, mostly puked when we tried to record on this scale. I was assuming this would be cake for a dual G5, but I honestly don't know if I'm setting my expectations too high.
    FYI, there is close to zero possibility that I will be able to make any changes to my setup before the weekend (e.g., adding RAM... maybe). Ergo, advice to drastically upgrade equipment will fall on deaf ears.
    Thanks in advance for any insight.

    It should be able to handle it. Just test it thoroughly before the session. Knowing how to tune/troubleshoot your system is necessary if you're running a G5 or a 7600. For your tests start with just Audio-no Audio Instruments, introduce them later.

  • SXDA split files for RMDATIND - First record in sequential file & not a session record (type 0)

    Hi gurus,
    I'm trying to perform a mass upload of material master records and for this I've have setup a Data Transfer Project in SXDA with the purpose of splitting an LSMW input file into multiple. The file split task is using Data Load Program:
    Object Type: BUS1001006
    Obj. description: AD Standard Material
    Program type: DINP
    Program: RMDATIND
    The problem I'm facing is that once the .conv (Converted Data) is split in multiple files these files are being transferred without a session record. This is causing to get the following error when running program: RMDATIND "First record in sequential file & not a session record (type 0)"
    So the questions is: How can I specify in SXDA that I want to keep that session record in all my split files?
    Thanks in advance for your help!

      Hi Chris ,
    try to re create logical file path/files for converted data.

  • What's the best way to capture speech as text in live or recorded Adobe Connection sessions?

    Hi
    What's the best way to capture speech as text in live or recorded Adobe Connection sessions?
    We would like to have a transcript of the presentation. Is Adobe Connect compatible with Dragon speech recognition software - or is there a preferred Adobe product or method?
    We use PCs running Windows 7 Enterprise.
    thanks

    The class java.util.Date is not itself deprecated, however several of its methods are.
    For converting string -> date, you should use the class java.text.SimpleDateFormat. That allows you to specify format strings such as MM-dd-yyyy hh:mm:ss for converting date -> string -> date.
    If you are wanting to set day/month/year on the date object directly, instead of the Date methods setDay, setMonth, setYear, you should instead use the java.util.Calender class:
    calendar.set(Calendar.MONTH, 4);
    The calendar can then be converted to a Date object by calling calendar.getTime().
    If you are going to use the date as part of a sql query, I would recommend using a Prepared statement, and the java.sql.Date/java.sql.Timestamp class as well.
    To convert from java.util.Date to java.sql.Date)
    jva.util.Date utilDate = Calendar.getInstance().getTime();
    java.sql.Date sqlDate = new java.sql.Date(utilDate.getTime());cheers,

    My primary reason for buying an iPad is for travel in Europe.  I live in an area of the US where Verizon rules.  Is Verizon's 3G model good for international travel?  I'm hearing conflicting views.  Any advice appreciated.

    Verizon uses CDMA.
    The rest of the world uses GSM.
    The wifi will work, if you find a hotspot.
    The 3G will not, unless south Korea moves to Europe.

  • Is fuzzy logic vi good for discrete system

    If modeling a system using PID is too hard or too difficult, I want to use fuzzy logic, but according to the NI control manual, fuzzy logic is good for a continuous system.
    Can it be used on a discrete system? for example, turn on a heater for 2 second and shut off, wait for 10 minutes, and then meausre again and go through fuzzy logic?
    Can my idea be fulfilled?
    Thanks

    To work with fuzzy logic does not require any transfer function as it is a fully descriptive, the disadvantage is that you have to know very well the operation of the plant and has something to do with trial and error, but when setting the rules correctly, your system is completely stable.

  • How to add a row for every 5 records using logic:iterate

    Hi,
    In my application, using logic:iterate iam displaying 20 records per page.
    I want to insert a row for every 5 records.
    Please tell how to insert that row.
    Thanks in advance.
    Mohan

    I think this could work for you
    for (int x=1 ; x<=20 ; x++) {
    addRowWithRecord
    if (x%5==0)
    addEmptyRow
    }

  • Is the X-FI series good for Midi recordi

    Before I spend a lot of money I would ask the forum what for a card is good for Midi recordings and has good piano samples. Additional I have a new motherboard (Asus M2NPV-VM)?with two PCI Slots only. Therefore I have no chances to change the slots due to IRQ problems. Therefore the card should be full PnP and WIN XP compatible. The old one shared the IRQ with the USB controllers or the on board grafic card (Can you recommend a X-FI card?Thanks.

    All I can find is "Bit Matched Recording"
    Basically I do not want the X-fi to touch any of my audio (and no I am not using a receiver).
    I have the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.
    For example, if I am listening to a source playing at 4400kHz, 6bit, then I want to hear exactly that.
    Think of it another way. If a video source image is 800x600 and I have a 920x200 monitor, I do not want to scale the image to fit 920x200. I want the image to appear at the center of the screen with black bars on top, bottom, left & right sides. A : pixel for pixel image. I would also be using DVI-D so there is no Digital to Analog conversion. Make sense now? I am viewing the source as intended.
    Now help me with : audio. I do not believe this is possible with Creative's current cards from all the articles and tech info I have read.

  • Using Garageband for live performances

    I would love to hear from anyone who uses GB for live performances. I'm especially interested in how you store and play your music; ie direct from your computer drive, on flash card or thumb drive etc. I'm a one man show with guitar, flute, and keyboard. I'm really new at this and any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hey Gillermo... I might have to eat my words. I had a good think about this last night and I have come up with a plan. Just shooting from the hip and so might need some refinement, but here goes...
    The problem as I saw it with Garageband was two fold...
    1. how to lay out several songs or groups of pre recorded tracks and tracks with effects on them for my vocal and guitar and
    2. lack of an easy to use controller of some sort that worked with GB to minimize mouse use, speed up transfer/choosing between songs and organize my set layout with a structure of some sort.
    As a result of mucking around with my Korg NanoKontrol and using the plugin for GarageBand, I can now envision a logical system for using GB for Live performance as a one person show.
    The NanoK has the ability to control 8 tracks at a time. You have use of Volume, Pan, Mute, Solo as well as the transport buttons when using scene number 1 on the NK. It has the ability to scroll through groups of 8 tracks at a time with dedicated buttons on fader bank 9.
    As a simple example, lets take 4 tracks 1. a track dedicated to vocal with some effects on it to taste 2. a track dedicated to guitar with some effects to taste 3. prerecorded bass track (file bounced down to mp3 or similar) and 4. a drum/percussion track set up like track 3.
    Now what you have is the use of 4 tracks for your performance ( there are a few other options though). Now if you load tracks 5-6 with the bass and drums of another song and 7-8 with the tracks of yet another song you now have 3 songs you can play/sing from the first fader bank set. These are all visible on the laptop screen.
    Now thinking in groups of 8 tracks, the 2nd set of 8 tracks (tracks 9-16) is set up in a similar way with tracks 9-10 duplicates of 1-2 (vox & guitar) and 3 sets of bass and drums (or what ever). You would name each set of bass and drum tracks with the name of the song so you could always find out where you are. You could also apply instrument icons for easier identification.
    So starting with fader bank 1 and tracks 1-4 un muted, you would have muted all the other tracks in the entire set ( before you started your show obviously). Hit play, sing your song... hit stop. Hit rewind, mute tracks 3-4, un mute tracks 5-6, hit play when ready and away you go with song No.2. Repeat for song 3. Once you have completed these 3 songs and made sure all of the tracks are muted via the Nano, press the button that moves the controls to the next set of 8 tracks or 3 songs.
    Now in terms of performance there would be some trial and error needed to find out how big the project file could be before there were computer performance issues. I read somewhere there was an upper limit of approx 240 tracks in GB. In reality you would be thinking in terms of how many songs there are in your sets. So in this scenario if you had 15 songs in each set you would only need 40 tracks or 5 sets of 8 fader banks.
    To minimize performance issues with projects getting on the large side, in between your sets you could close the project with set one in it and open the project file with set 2 in it.
    A couple of other layout options would be to use an entire bank of faders for each song. You could have between 5-8 tracks usable per song. You could have a combination of audio, .wav/mp3, electric guitar and software instrument tracks. Simply go through the mute/unmute process as you scroll through your songs.
    You could also lock/unlock the odd track for another level of performance optimization, but you would have to use the mouse pad for this as it can't be done via the NK.
    The pro's for this type of system are
    1. Complete control of mixing vol & pan for the venue you are in
    2. Very simple control at your finger tips, 2 or more faders at a time, limited mouse use
    3. A logical frame work to create your sets.
    4. You can stay in GarageBand, no need for another software program.
    5. Very cheap investment.
    The Con's would all revolve around your computer spec's.
    1. Max out your RAM.
    2. Be selective with effects
    3. System HD speed.
    Note, I am assuming my vox and guitar are going through and audio interface with outs to an amp or PA of some sort.
    I am going to have to try this out. I really DO NOT LIKE Ableton Live. It is heavy on CPU and gets really deep very quickly. If this works then I will have an Live Serial# for sale.

  • 2 Logical Components for 1 Business Process Step

    Hello All,
    I'm looking for a way to assign in SolMan --> transaction Solar01 - Tab Structure - Business Process Step, 2 logical components for 1 business step. When creating the business step I have to assign 1 specific logical component to this step. Once I have done this I can only select  the chosen logical component ffor SAP Transactions, configuration object etc.. As my business step is running on 2 different systems I need to find a way to link transactions etc. in the step to the different systems. Is there any way to change this for the Level 3 elements, like it is for level 2 (business processes) where I can choose in the different tabs between all the logical components?
    Thanks in advance
    Ramó

    I've seen people use some absolute craziness to get more than three levels. The most extreme being using multiple projects at the highest level (i.e. a project for PTP Accounts Payable). Don't go there.
    I personally like to have 1 transaction per process step. Don't use the transaction tab as another process level, use it to better describe the process step (like all the other tabs are uses). It results in a better understanding of the system as you go forward. To do that I make teams break up things they think are one step (this can take some arm twisting, so hit the gym and maybe take a few judo classes).
    This allows you to use SolMan in more powerful ways. For instance, if you attach development objects to a step with 5 transactions, you cannot tell which transaction is modified by the development object. However, one transaction per node provides you this link. There are other examples, but basically the "where used" button becomes very useful when you have 1 transaction per node.
    Maybe you could provide a specific example of your process and we can think of a better way to collapse it.
    Such as:
    - PTP Non-Merchandise Purchasing
    -- Expense Purchasing
    --- Create Purchase Requisition
    --- Create Purchase Order (Assign Vendor & Price)
    --- Send to Vendor
    --- Post Goods Receipt
    --- Perform LIV
    --- Process Payment
    Some companies have 6 level processes already defined in models and putting it into SolMan can be a pain for sure. Your naming convention is usually the best route.
    regards,
    Jason
    The system role and template work around doesn't apply to your situation.
