Is Logic Studio the replacement of Pro?

Ok, I noticed that Logic Pro 8 doesn't appear in the store, but when you search for it, studio comes up. Has studio replaced pro? Cause I'm really thinking to get it, but I don't want to if Studio is just an in-between of express and pro. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can remember making the request to have Logic Pro and STP Pro bundled in a 'Studio' ap akin to Final Cut Studio and having my thread locked!
Just cause they lock ya' doesn't mean they don't love ya'!

your new lion-machine should have quicktime 7, too. if it doesn't, and if it doesn't show up after you migrated your stuff from you old machine you can always reinstall it from the logic dvd's, it's part of logic. my recommendation is to always use quicktime 7, since it's got many features that are absent in quicktime x. quicktime x is nothing but a polished video player. in quicktime 7 (pro, comes with logic) you can even do edits and paste your music onto video files. i use it all the time, especially since logic 64bit doesn't export to video anymore.

  • Logic Studio on new Macbook pro retina

    Hi,
after 6 years my macbook "died" ... :-( I am thinking about buying a new macbook pro retina..
My Problem is, how can i install the  logic studio with the dvds if there is no dvd device?
thanks for you advise and ideas!
    Philipp

The same way you have to install all software that comes on CD/DVD:
either you buy an external DVD USB drive
or you share the drive from a second Mac (via the Sharing system preferences)

  • I have just bought Logic studio for my macbook pro, do i need to buy a midi keyboard?

Bascily just wondering if this would be essentail to the purchase i have just made, if not it's no bother. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how someone can purchase a $500 piece of professional MIDI/Audio software and even ask this question.
Of course you need a MIDI keyboard, unless you're going to work with canned loops in which case Garageband would be -more- than enough for you.
In fact, Garageband is a subset of Logic and is capable of producing professional grade output and is a perfect place to start learning about MIDI and Audio.
As a long time Logic user I admit it's difficult to see people using Logic without having a base of knowledge to build upon.
If you're going to use Logic you need to read the manuals and use the online help, there is so much good info there, it will give you an understanding of how Logic works and what it is designed to do.
Logic is not a hand holder, It will not walk you through how to use it, it's not a Mac program per se, you have to know what you're doing to learn Logic effectively. The best way to do this is to read manuals, watch tutorials and come up with a short list of questions that can be answered effectively... in short, intelligent questions.
Random questions of "what's this", "how do I do (fill in the blank)"  can give you an immediate answer but leave you clueless how that answer was arrived at. Knowing how to arrive at your own answers is a key to understanding and using Logic effectively.
Not ranting specifically at you LeGringe... just a general rant to new users who've aquired Logic without much former experience in MIDI/Audio...etc....etc.

  • No sound--- Logic  Studio 9.0.2  Pro tools 8.0.1 and apogee DA and AD 16x

I can't get sound out of Digi core audio manager---I can hear it through speaker in computer if I select that option, but I can't get sound from apogees. Spoke with apple and digidesign, ---I can't get it to work. Pro tools works fine---When I look at Digi core audio window the hardware settings window is grey and not accessible. I think I need a window like the I/O window on PT--Does anyone have a remedy or any ideas, or has anyone experienced this-----Mac Pro 2.8 quad intel w 8 gig ram

    Hi,
the Digidesign CoreAudio driver supports only the first 8 I/O of your first (main) interface.
You will be able to open the "Digidesign Hardware Setup" from within the "Digidesign CoreAudio Manager", if no application is up and running that is using this CoreAudio driver.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

  • Newly installed logic studio won't launch on my macbook pro

I just installed Logic Studio on my macbook pro (core 2) and it crashes before it can launch all the way. could this be a conflict with my protools LE software, or Reason? any ideas? thanks.

  • Transferring data from external hard drive to new replacement Macbook Pro...

    Hello,
Apple have arranged to give me a replacement Macbook Pro due to faults with hardware on the one I am currently using. I will be going to pick up the replacement Macbook Pro tomorrow morning.
As a complete novice I just wanted to check that I have backed up the data from my current laptop onto my Iomega external hard drive properly, as I am slightly nervous about losing all my work and not being able to transfer all my files onto my new Macbook Pro tomorrow.
I did a back up using time machine earlier today which took quite a long time and seemed to go successfully. Is this the right thing to have done to save all data from my current laptop onto the external hard drive?
Will transferring data from the external hard drive onto my new Macbook Pro be a simple task?
Will I have to reinstall all my software such as Logic and Pro Tools? Also will my preferences and settings for music software be changed?
    I'd greatly appreciate any advice.
    Thanks,
    Deena

    Well it's like this.
If your problem on the Mac didn't affect the software or the TimeMachine backup, then restoring from that using SetupAssistant (when you first set up a new Mac it will ask you to restore) should go fine.
HOWEVER, if there are software issues on the Mac that also transferred to the TimeMachine drive, that will only transfer them back onto your new computer.
You can't very easily just pick out the things you want to restore from TimeMachine with, it doesn't give that fine detail of control, and if it's really messed up, it might not restore anything at all.
The golden rule of backups is to maintain two separate and easily accessible hardware copies of your data off the machine at all times.
Since you don't know for sure if the TimeMachine restore is going to work as intended, and your only other source is going to disappear, I'd advise a additional backup of your Music, Documents, Pictures and Movie folders etc., to another regular external drive via regular drag and drop copy methods.
The operating system and programs can all be reinstalled from fresh sources on the new machine, provided you have the AppleID and password, license codes for your programs, email passwords and any other necessary information to re-establish the license on the new machine.
(In some cases licensed software HAS NOT transferred to a new machine with a TimeMachine restore and had to be reinstalled)
Some times you have to contact the developer or "uninstall" the licensed program so it sends a signal to their servers that the program has been removed, else your license code may not work on the new machine.
You might decide the new machine would be better off with a fresh install of your programs that you know are 100% compatible with Lion etc., leaving a lot of older stuff you installed over the years off the new machine, if you restore from TimeMachine, you don't have this option. You pretty much get all the crap along for the ride,
If your new machine gets all crapped up, then restoring Lion is going to going to be a tough challenge, as you need a strong reliable Internet connection to download a fresh copy of Lion from Apple servers (no more disks). Once you do that, then somehow you have to use third party software ($$) to cherry pick your files out of TimeMachines trap. More headaches than you anticpated, and likely a charge by a specialist.
So I'd advise another hard drive with a copy of just your files, just in case a crap-up occurs
You can restore Lion yourself if it craps up, install programs from fresh sources as you know how to do, use the old license codes and then return your files manually exactly back into their same Music, Pictures, Documents, and Movies (etc, not Library) folders as before.
The key to this manual method is to make sure to use the same user name as before, so all your file location data pathnames retained by program files like iTunes to where the songs are located on the drive, are matched. Once you open these programs and restablish the links in OS X, then you can move them around.
Some tricks, if you use iPhoto, you can right click "show package contents" and inside is a folder with your Originals, copy that out and you can reimport your pictures into the new iPhoto Library on the new machine.
So use TM if you dare, but prepared to do things manually is my opinion.
TM restores have not been all that reliable or dependable, the more messed up your machine is, the worst the restore seems to be.
    Good Luck

  • Logic Studio on a MacBookPro

I really need a portable DAW. Would I be able to use Logic Studio on a MacBook Pro??
    Neil

When you guy installed Logic Studio on your MBP did it take a very long time to install all the disc.... I started on it at the end of the night and had to go to bed and would wake up in the middle of the night and change disc due to it saying it would take 7 hours... and then I woke up this morning to look at disc 3 and it said 11 hours left... I forced quit the installer and want to rethink maybe what I really need to install... I don't believe I'm going to need soundtrack pro content so should just leave it out.... What do you guys think should I go in and delete all the files before reinstalling or just start reinstalling and let it write over anything..... Thanks you so much.. I just got the MBP and have been installing all my software without verifying permissions or anything like that ... So I think that could've been part of the cause.....

  • Final Cut Studio & Logic Studio upgrade issue

I am mainly audio based but have been working on projects more recently with Final Cut Studio 2 to deal with the video. As I use both Logic Studio 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2 a lot, and Final Cut Pro less, I plumped for the upgrade to Logic Studio which also contains STP 3 and Compressor 3.5 which seemed the right thing to do.
However the install info and dvd doesn't want you to install STP 3 or Compressor 3.5 if you have Final Cut Studio 2 as they "contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Personally I didn't want to run to the expense of upgrading Final Cut as I don't use Motion, Colour or Cinema Tools and although I am working heavily in DVD Studio Pro they haven't done anything to upgrade that application (boo!)
So what's the deal? Am I unable to upgrade ST Pro to version 3 and also unable to benefit from the upgraded Compressor even though I've actually paid for an upgrade that promised me these options, and no mention until I'd opened the package that there would be any incompatibility issues with Final Cut Studio 2!
Anyone know what these 'incompatible components' are?
Sounds like sharp practice and bad product integration to me...

I just spoke with someone in Apple Reseller Channel Sales and he told me that what is shipping now is strictly the Universal version. So, if you order a Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP HD ($699 retail, IIRC), you will receive the FCS Universal version in the big box with all the docs.

  • BFD, Focusrite Saffire, Yamaha DTxtreme IIS and Logic Studio 8

I currently have a Yamaha DTXreme IIs electronic drumkit, a Focusrite Saffire interface (firewire) BFD 1, an academic version of Logic Express, MacBook Pro (specs below) with 2 GB RAM. Not upgrading to Tiger (yet).
I have had pretty good luck with BFD, although I can't use it to its full potential because of LE's limitations (can't use BFD All or Ultra to route drums to individual tracks out of BFD using a template in Logic Express - or so their support tells me). There were some issues with the bussing and auxillary channels in Logic Express being very limited and rather non-sensical in comparison with a typical mixing set-up. Really curious to know the specs on Studio 8 in regard to auxillary channels and stereo bussing.
    Any word on those items?

    Hi,
Logic Studio (the full version, not the LE) has the ability to use up to 64 busses. Also, there are better routing options, as there are no limitations like in LE.
Also, you can play back up to 200 tracks (of course, your computer has to be able to do so...)
Unfrtunately, for you, you'll have to buy the full version, since you have an academic version roght now, which does not allow oyu to upgrade to 8. THe good news is that Studio is very affordable for what you get.
    Cheers

  • Logic Studio not booting up

    Hello
This week I took my Mac Pro and upgraded it to Leopard. Now when I try to start Logic Studio the app crashes when it comes to "initializing core audio". If I hold down "ctrl" logic will boot up but I can't access the AU manager. I thought that maybe some of my plug ins could possibly be the cause of the crashes, they all worked wonderfully before.
All my software is updated. I use RME's fireface 800.
What am I supposed to do to get it to work again??

Went through all the updates and patches for all the software I use. The plug ins i dont use removed from "components" and "vst" folders. STILL NOT WORKING!!!!
I looked at the report that pops up after logic boot crashes and I saw this ...
    1 ...lemony.MelodyneRewireDevice 0x23e2befb GNMessagePort::registerMessagePortWithName(GNString*, GNData* ()(GNMessagePort, GNData*), int, int, GNDictionary*) + 315
    2 ...lemony.MelodyneRewireDevice 0x23dcdb8e GNReWire2AudioDeviceHost::create() + 172
    3 ...lemony.MelodyneRewireDevice 0x23dcbcef RWDEFOpenDevice + 89
...now I have deleted the Melodyne from my system, is it possible that its still left somewhere. I do a spotlight search for Melodyne, Rewire but nothing comes back??????
    PLEASE HEEEELLLLPPPPP

  • Logic Studio Installation on other computer problems?

I have logic studio on my macbook pro, and I bought a friend a macbook pro for christmas. I then registered it in his name.
I am at his house fairly often and as I haven't used my other installation for Logic, would like to install it on his macbook, to use logic when there.
I see you have to own the 2 computers the 2 installations are on and one has to be a laptop and one a desktop. I would like to install logic on the other laptop as I did pay for it, but am concerned about downloading it onto his hard disk and it doesn't work, either because it would be on 2 laptops or because I've registered the laptop in his name.
Does anyone know if it would work?
Should I register Logic on the 2nd laptop in my name or his(as the laptop is registered)?
    Thanks in advance.

anyway, having my hands full with getting started. This is my first time ever on Mac and Logic. but things have been so straight forward and easy up till now. (except the little installation thingy ;))
I have already recorded a little piece by my condensate Mic. and things sound pretty cool.
Now i have to get used to things and know the working my way around.
    this is just damnationlike cool.
One thing that am thinking of is that when i run GR3 and start LS8 then the sound of guitar through GR3 gets rusty.
I wonder whether i should just record a file by GR3 software with all effects and sounds and then import the file into logic for close up on things.
    cheers
You can open Guitar Rig IN Logic, if you have installed the AU (Audio Unit) plugin. From what I understand you use it standalone (as a separate application), but you can use it as a plugin as well. And your proposed workflow is possible, but it leaves more control if you record your guitar cleanly, and and add the effect as a plugin on the guitar track.
    regards, Erik.
