Is Mac OS X Lion suitable for macbook pro or only desktops?

Just wondering if OS X Lion is suitable for Macbook Pro's or if it is too big? Also, I can see on the forum that a few people have had issues since upgrading, is it worth it? Or will it just cause glitches and problems? I would love some opinions on this before I upgrade.

Works flawlessly on mine.  Lion is suitable for any mac that meets Lion technical specifications, although running it on a mac that meets the minimum specs may result in less than desired performance.

It is worth it only if you need/want the features that Lion provides: http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/features.html.  Also, you will generally only read about problems that people are having with Lion, as users who aren't having any problems (like me) have no reason to create posts on how happy they are with it.  The users who are having problems with it are minimal.

and always make sure to insure it is using restore points
do all the maintenance andsuch as normal
use MS Security Essentials for AV is really top notch
    Clean disk space

Windows has a software updater built into Windows and when you install the Boot Camp drivers then it will install an Apple software updater also. I believe Windows is set to automatically download and install your updates as does the Apple software Updater. They both will update the individual files it needs to periodically.
"Microsoft updates" and "Windows updates" are basically the same thing in Windows. Are you talking about the "Windows support software" when downloading from Boot Camp Assistant? Apple installs a software updater for it's Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 so you can do it manually or automatically.
The "Hot Fix" your referring to is only for certain motherboards built from other Windows only computer manufacturers and does NOT pertain to any Apple computers.
If you have a problem with your computer then it's best to ask a specific question so we can help better.

  • Is OS X Lion Suitable for macbook version 10.6.8

i need the Icloud so that i Purshached OS X Lion for my macbook Version 10.6.8 from the APP store but the downloading is taking more 2 days till now .
i want to know is OS X lion is suitable for my macbook ?

Lion system requirements can be found here. Most MacBooks can use it with no problem, the exception being if your processor is an Intel Core Duo (as some of the earliest MacBooks were) or if you have less RAM installed.
Another important point to check out is whether all of your essential applications are compatible with Lion. Contact their developers before you buy to make sure. It is very frustrating to upgrade only to find that the one app that you absolutely must have doesn't work because the developers haven't finished the work.
    Best of luck.

I have Firefox version 3.6.22 (Mac) & keep downloading Firefox 6.0.2 for Mac (as prompted) to my new Macbook Pro, running Lion (OS 10.7.1) and it won't open and install. WTF?

something similar has been happening to me for a a couple weeks (even before the most recent update, but now is definitely worse) on my 2010 MacBook Air. Firefox freezes upon startup, and then freezes maybe every twenty minutes or so when I'm actively using it, staying frozen for at least a minute or two. it drives me crazy.

  • Purchasing iWork for MacBook Pro and Mini Mac

If I have a MacBook Pro (older 2006) and a Mini Mac, do I need to purchase iwork for each? Additionally, would I need to purchase pages '09 for each as well?
Also, I'm running Lion on my Mini Mac and Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro.  Will this affect my purchases?
Apologies if this is pretty common knowledge. I'm still getting to know all this.
    Thanks!!

You can purchase the Family Pack and install iWork on each of your systems.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB943Z/A
Or you can purchase each application separately from the Mac App Store and use them on all systems you own or control.

  • Mountain Lion FREE update for MacBook Pro Retina 2012

Hello, looking for an honest support.. I bought my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 on this 15 July 2012 from Apple's authorised premium reseller of Bangladesh (Executive Machines Ltd.).. I just knew & saw yesterday that Mountain Lion was published & it is FREE for the buyers who bought the new qualifying machine (as my one is!).. so I just followed the apple.com eligible link and provided my details (address of my current residence which happens to be "Bangladesh", country, city & my valid macbook pro "serial number"..).. after that received a claim reference number mentioning that the FREE redeem code will be emailed to me after checking my claim has been validated.. but after carefully going through that eligibility link I noticed that claims are not eligible for outside US/ Canada.. and now I've provided my serial number & it has been used! and moreover, I did not recieve any email notification from Apple even after 24+ hours!.. what should I do now? .. do I need to buy this Mountain Lion once again even after I am eligible for the FREE update as Apple mentioned before or I just lost my free redeem opportunity as I bought it from outside US (event though from Apple's authorised reseller!!)?? please need honest suggestion..

can i make a dmg file right after download? its really really long when using recovery and my ml from the regular macbook pro is not compatible with the retina and im not sure why it works well with other macs except for this one.  thanks so much. having a headache now on how to make it work.
As you can only get OS X from Internet Recovery, you can't get the OS X Mountain Lion stored on the HDD and make a bootable volume with it. Also, you can't install the OS X version you have on your other Mac because the hardware of this MacBook Pro with Retina display isn't compatible with that OS X version.
In your case, reinstall OS X and see what happens. If you can't reinstall OS X, take the computer to an Apple Store because you can't do anything with that MacBook Pro now

The licence terms for OS X Lion are exactly the same as for any other App Store application. An individual may download and install on as many Macs as they own.

It would be easier to just fix whatever is making your machine slow.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be causing these problems. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/download/EtreCheck.zip, run it, and paste the results here.

I purchased a Seagate 3T HD for my MacBook Pro but only Windows are listed on the box (the Seagate site listed Mac) will it work???

Most external drives are formatted for Windows; you should be able to format it for Mac. Plug it in, open Disk utility, highlight the drive and choose the Partition tab. Do not worry about any software on the drive - you don't need it and it will be erased. In the partition tab, choose how many you want, name them, choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and, under the Options button, choose GUID partition scheme. Hit Apply. The drive will be erased and formatted. If that process does not work, contact Seagate and inquire about the Mac compatibility.
