Is material master knowlwdge needed

Dear All,
Would u clarify me that while i am begining my career in mySAP MM module , will it be necessary for me to learn and get working knowledge of Material Masters?

We are already using this badi MD_MRP_PARAMETERS. We are facing the following problem
For example
header ATEST
component BCOMP
We need to switch off the bulk indicator and phantom for the component.
We are using the above bapi its manipulation only the header (ATEST) material master data but in LTP run during creation of header simulative planned. Component simulative dep requirement values are copied from material master. In this above bapi we are manipulating only header values.
When the next loop during component simulative planned order generation time the above parameters(bulk and phantom) are copied from component simulative dep requirement. Hence the switching of bulk indicator and phantom assembly is not working during ltp using this badi. This problem is happening for multi level components too.
Is there any suggestion for this issue..

Conditional Mandaotry field in Material Master (Suggestion Needed)

Hi ,
I am having a requirement where i need to make a particular field to be mandatory for a certain condition in Material Master.
Say for a Product Hierarchy i want to make Volume Rebate Group mandatory ( Sales Org 2 View).
Please suggest the possible solutions for the same.
No userexit is possible , Screen exit is also out of picture as i will not get the value of second variable -

Hi Rajiv,
there is a user-exit that can be used .. MGA00001.
We use it to make some plausibility checks before saving a material and also some additional authorization checks.

Copy of Batch characteristics value from material master to Batch

Hi Gurus,
I have maintained some values in the characteristics under batch classification in material master and want to copy the values in batch characteristics during batch creation at process order release.
Can any one help me to achieve this in standard way?

Hi,
Try to understand the batch classification functionality...In batch classification characteristic values changes from batch to batch...Values should not be maintained in the material master...it does not have any meaning...in the material master we need to assign only the batch class with class type 023 in classification view ...no need to assign the values there....Batch classification means characteristics values differs from batch to batch...

BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA.
in the above function module

Document is not capured from material master to PO

Hi Gurus
I created a material in the material master. In the additional data, i have attached the PDF drawing of the material and i have save it.
Say Material Shaft was created.
Then i created Purchase order for the material Shaft. In PO i am not able to get the PDF which i stored in material master.I need to send the drawing along with the PO.
What i have to do ?

For material X , i have created a Document in CV01N and released it. in the object link - material master, i have attached the X material.
when i am creating a PO (ME21N), i gave a material 'X'. selecting the PO item and clicking documents icon below that, i didn't find any document, but when i manually enter the document, it is attached..
I need to know, the document is attached to the material master, when creating the PO, it has to pick the document...
I am asking why its not picking it... ?

Attachment in material master

When maintaining the material master, we need to attach documents/pix related to the material. I already tried:
- Basic data 1, GOS icon
- System \ Service for Object
But the icon is disabled. Please help!

do u want to send the doc to the customer
when u create a PO. enter the material... select the PO item no and bottom of the item overview tab.. there are many icons...
select the LINK TO DOC... there you can attach the docu
IMP - this can be done, if u have created the doc in DMS

Where I can store tariff code in material master

Hi,
I am wondering if you also know whether SAP material master is able to store tariff code.
This tariff code is use by the custom department to keep track of their material code.

The Customs Tariff Prefs are maintained in Foriegn Trade View in material master.It needs a pre-config of Foreign Trade/Customs in MM.

Need to activate batch mangement in material master

Hi MM Experts,
Need your all help in the below issue
We need to select batch management for the material code but system will not allow selecting in material master, as per SAP note 30656; we removed complete stock from the same plant but some previous month stock exist for that we posted stock in current month using 561 movement and while reversing the stock in previous month posting date system not allowing to reveres getting an standard and moving price error message because they changed material price control from Moving to standard price in the current month.
Now the current situation is system not allowing reversing the stock due to moving and standard price control change Please suggest us, what are the steps we need to carry out to flag batch management for that material code.

The complete steps mentioned for that material.
1.Raw Material code created previousely (In the month of FEB 2011)with price control (V) withought batch management
2.In the month of Mrach 2011 Price control changed from V to S
2,In the month FEB 2011 some Good movement document posted for the same material.
3.From the month of March 2011 now they want to actiavte batch management for the same material
4.We sujjested user to make nill stock for that material and activate the batch management.
5.Then they removed the complete stock for the same material evn they getting some previous stock error.
6.then we find out the note in sap 30656 and advised below steps.
1. Post the same amount to current period stock (for example, using movement type 561) so that previous period stock and current period stock are identical.
2. Make a withdrawal posting in the previous period for the stock together with posting date (for example, using movement type 562).
7.while doing second step we are getting an error as price control changed from V TO S,due to changed in price control

Hi Kumar,
For DP, many of the fields under MRP3, forecasting tab
views will be utilised more in material master of R/3.
For SNP, MRP 1, 2,4 and basic data views will be mostly
useful
For PPDS, Fields under Bom, routing, receipe, production
versions will be used along with few fields in material
master

Hi,
It is possible to get access to all other fields from within a field exit by using the below code. This is a field exit on GMG_HEADER_FIELDS-grant_type within program SAPLBDT_GMGR but by using the code below you can get data stored in any field within the program. i.e. GMG_HEADER_FIELDS-GRANT_NBR
Field-symbols: <status>.

if SY-SUBRC = 0.

Need info about Safety lead time in material master

Hi,
Safety lead time in material master is used to bring requirements forward.
we define this time in terms of days.
I tried to use this field, but system is not bringing the requirements forward.
System is planning material as other raw materials.
The requirement dates for raw materials without safety lead time and with safety lead time are same.
Can anybody explain, how it works and how we can alalyze the results with example.
Is there other settings we need to do ?

Workflow help need urgently in Material Master creation

hi All
I am trying to create a Workflow for creating Material Master views in ECC6 system . Initially Basic data 1 and basic data 2 is created by user and then my workflow is trigerred for subseuqent views .For e.g i need to route the workitem to a user to fiill in Purchasing data and then to another user to fill in accounting data after basic data 1 and basic data 2 is created by so called super user. I was trying to use business object BUS1001006 for this using method CREATEVIEWS but i am getting stuck here with using this method . I dont know how to use this method so that once the user clicks the workitem it should directly go to Puchasing tab view or Accounting tab view (depending on the kind of user currently accessing the workitem).
Any idea how to solve this problem ? It would really be helpful for me

1. I have entered transaction OMS9
2. Entered the Field selection group as 2
3. Below the fields option 3 RM03M-WERK280 (Plant) i double clicked and checked there is hide option.
4. I came back selected the T001W - Name1 (Name) I double clicked that in 34 , 35 , 54 was enabled with hide i changed to opt entry but still it seems to be the same.
5. I came back again and below in the field selection tab checked for the MM01 and MM02 transaction as well as fert,halb,roh as opt entry
It did not work.Kindly guide me if there is some other option available for this to revoke the plant option.

Need to upload material master.

Hi experts,
I am periodically required to change values in some fields from MRP 1,2,3 and 4 views. It takes hell of a time as there are many material codes..nearly 500 every month.
My question is is there any other quick input method like creating an excel file for that data and upload it?
I remember in mylast company for uploading material master the consultants provided us with that kind of query/data run.

Dear ,
You need to run BDC in Back ground for uploading Material Master parametrs or new material creation .It can be Batch process.
Or Goto T-code MM17 mass change check tables there, and retreive data one by one from se16, then merge your file. or develop report detailed report for this then download.
