Is Mavericks annoying to most people, or just for me?

My finder window won't stay the size I want it to in column view. Is it too much to ask to see my whole file name without the finder column "intuitively" shrinking back to it's skinny default size? I resize the column, drag a file to a new location, and when I drop, the column shrinks back and hides the rest of my files. Then, if I have a window open already, any new window I open takes over the current window as if I don't have that open for a reason. Is there a setting or something I can adjust to make all this new Mavericks behavior go away? It's the small things that get me. So far, Mavericks is very annoying...

You may not know this but whenever you Upgrade to a new Operating System there are going to be a few bug to begin with. Just bare with Apple for a little while and they will have all the bugs worked out.
I have a brand new iMac and Mavericks is the fastest smoothest Operating System Apple has ever came out with.
Remembering that older Software doesn't always work until the developers of said software update it. The bad part everyone blames Apple for software developers issues.
Bare with them give them a chance to fix your issue.

If you got Keynote from the Mac App Store and you have got the most recent version, you should know that it only works with OS X Mavericks, so you will not be able to download Keynote after downgrading. Also, before downgrading, convert your Keynote documents to Keynote '09 documents (open the files with Keynote and go to File menu -in the menu bar- > Export to > Keynote '09).
However, note that older Keynote versions work with older OS X versions. After downgrading, you will need a iWork '09 DVD to reinstall Keynote (you can get it at Amazon). Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest Keynote '09 version.

So then - do most people use other programs to edit thier photos?

After hours of reading on this discussion forum - which is incredibly informative and useful - and others, it seem that a lot of people use Aperture for its management abilities (I know, DAM) and not as much for its editing abilities. (Perhaps its intended function?) Is this accurate? Is it intended to be a compliment to <insert you favoite photo editor title here> rather than a replacement?
It seems to be far too powerful an editing tool to simply use to structure my files - but send them out to an editing program when I want to edit.
Again, I am a newbie and am probably missing something, but as an example using the sharpen edge tool I cannot seem to apply much sharpening at all even maxing the sliders. In PS (I am not trying to cause I debate, it just happens to be the program I have been using to this point) you can easily sharpen, over sharpen and completely distort the image beyond useful with tiny adjustments in the parameters. I have about a half a dozen presets as baselines in unsharp mask (normal, reduce haze, portraits etc) that I start with and change slightly per photo. I wanted to create the same structure in Aperture, but it does not seem to have this ability - which I find strange because just about everything else I do in Aperture seems to have abilites way beyond my own and I find I am having difficulties with simple things, such as adjusting light levels.

As has been noted by those wiser and better than I, "take the picture right, then you don't have to muck with it in the darkroom." There is, of course, a lot of truth in this but the digital image is another beast compared to film. I suspect that I handle about 90%+ of my images directly in Aperture. I have a number of plug ins (SilverFX, Vevezia, Photomatix HDR, and Noise Ninja) and I link to an external editor. Most of what needs correcting, improving, focusing, etc., can be done within Aperture particularly now that the plug ins are 64 bit. Still, I have a full copy of Photoshop (actually CS5) as there are things that can be done in PS that I don't know how to do any where else. (There are also hundreds of things that PS can do that I haven't learned!)
So the answer to your question: depends on how deep you like to get into the image. I liked the dark room in the old days (dating myself here) so I have found the amazing power of a program like PS to be irresistible. YMMV.

A few years back I was able to get Adobe to switch me to the Mac version of CS2 by paying the upgrade fee difference. Won't hurt to ask. There was a bit of song and dance routine (faxes and stuff to prove I had the Win version) but it worked out. Worth a try but recommend you learn Aperture and its available plug ins first.

looks like most people are having the same problem. either no music will go onto their ipod or it says it has transfered and nothing actually has, only to get some annoying message with (-69) in it. does anyone know how to fix this, or why this happens?

This is how my troubles started, when i upgraded to itunes 5 a while ago. Songs would freeze when loading to ipod and soon i started getting error -69 and ipod became unresponsive. Then it totally effed up, not being recognised by windows, not mounting or restoring and all the songs on it wont play at all. Took it in to the store where i bought it and they told me that my hard drive died. Ah now i wait while it gets repaired. So all these errors are a sign that your ipod will soon be useless. Oh yeah for the -69 i found that getting rid of the songs that it froze on worked pretty well, something to with checksum or md5 something.

One thing the iPad lacks is a file manager. There is no file explorer native on the iPad. If you started adding plugin cards, then you add the need for that. And, in PC's, most viruses spread via the file explorer (the definition of a virus is a malicious program that propagates itself across multiple programs)
There are a few drives out there for iDevices. Such as the WiDrive and others.

Now it's Wednesday (2 days since I originally posted) & my iPhone appears to have finally restored all my apps, but it still says it's restoring from iCloud backup. If all my apps are restored, what else could it be restoring? IS it actually restoring anything at this point, or is it still in 'glitch' mode??? I've tried turning it off & back on & it continues to say that it's restoring.

You most likely ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

What video card/graphics card does your computer use? NVIDIA GeForce?
