Hello
Is Merchandise & Assortment planning a part of IS-Retail?
Thanks

Hi Comandante,
Check the link below which explains the significant role of SAP MAP in BI-IP and this is primarily used for Fashion Industry and when integrated with SAP Retail(Through OAPC)yields the best results for Fashion Indistries.(Merchandise Planning,Store Planning,Strategic planning etc)

  • Best Practice for Plan for Every Part (PFEP) Database/Dashboard?

    Hello All-
I was wondering if anyone had experience with implementing / developing a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) Database in SAP. My company is looking to migrate its existing PFEP solution (Custom developed Excel/Access system) into SAP. If you are unfamiliar, a PFEP is a dashboard view of a part/material that provides various business groups with dedicated views to data from Material Masters, Info Records, and Vendor Master Records and combines it with historical/forecasting information. The goal is to provide a single source to all the part/material settings for a given part.
Is there a Best Practice PFEP in SAP? Or if this is something that most companies custom develop in ERP or BI?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Ron

I think you will likely get a response in SAP ERP - Logistics Materials Management (SAP MM)
additionally you might want to do some searches based on SAP Lean Inventory, perhaps Kanban. I am assuming you are not using WM or EWM either?
Where I have seen PFEP incorporated into the supply chain strategy this typically requires not inconsiderable additions to the alternate UoM in MM dropping of automatic replenishment levels (reorder level) and rethinking aspects of the MRP plan so be prepared or significant additional data management work if you haven't already started on that. I believe Ryder logistics uses PFEP and theirSAP infrstructure is managed by IBM; might be an idea to try and find a linkedin  resource from there. You may also find one of the ASUG supply chain, logistics,  MM or WM sigs a good place to also ask questions and look for answers.

Hi, i'm new with Oracle Retail and ORACLE RPAS. I would like ton know the best way to backup RPAS or if RPAS support Real Application Cluster or something like that.

    Question:
What makes up the added value in OR MerchandiseAnalytics over ORDW?
Both offer extraction layer, staging layer, datamart layer, aggregate layer, OBIEE + prebuilt reports.
I want to know how the fact extraction layer on ORMS etc. is done using ODI. Unfortunately I see no CDC/Streams approach, that we have chosen to use for our extensions to the ORDW datamodel. Is the extraction logic more or less a rebuild of the good old Pro*C DWI programs?
    Some points:
    - More products have been connected to ORMA, additional to RMS: ReIM, ReSA, ORMFP, ORPM.
    - ORMA has had an technology update for the ETL, from OR-only's custom RETL to the more general Oracle ODI (formerly Sunopsis).
    - Is it the promised/future integration of one set of conformed dimension reused and shared over all other to-be OR analytics products? (Like Marketing, Planning, Supply Chain, Stores).
    - ORMA offers 'Dashboards' - may be straightforward to make in RDW-OBIEE?
    - ORMA offers multiple timeviews, where base RDW only offers AsWas (SCD2) - bsiness users may appreciate the AsIs view, and PIT.

According to the RMS13.2 release notes (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12448_01/rms/pdf/rms_rfm_br/132/rms-132-rn.pdf), RETL and all RETL based interfaces to ORDW are desupported from 13.2!
“Discontinued Support for Oracle Retail Data Warehouse (RDW) Interfaces
A new analytical application is in development. Because of this strategic decision, support for interface between Oracle Retail applications and Oracle Retail Data Warehouse has been discontinued for Oracle Retail 13.2 releases. Oracle Retail Extract, Transform, and Load (RETL) extract scripts for RDW are not supported for use with Oracle Retail 13.2 applications and databases.”
That makes things a lot clearer!

  • Using ASCP for Repair Planning and Service Parts Planning

I have a client that is doing a large scale Oracle ERP (most modules). The customer is a large aircraft maintainer and perform most of the maintenance internal. Has anyone implemented ASCP is a complex repair environment that his heavily influenced by service parts concepts. I am a Xelus/ClickCommerce implementor and I am looking for some insight on how to implement the key service parts concepts including: fractional repair BOM's/Factors, time phased bills of materials, importing time phased re-order points, time phased carcass returns , constraint based planning on carcasses, material and resources.

    Partha ,
The simple scenario mentioned by you where one supplier/supplier site is there for an item and supplying to two org ... the suggested due date can be different by having different purchasing lead time(pre processing + post processing + processing) set at item org level .
But this solution will not work when you have multiple supplier/supplier site is there for an item rog combination. However here it can be tried modeling through a combination of post processing lead time at ASL Level and pre processing lead time + post processing lead time at item org level.

  • Activity "Calculate Access Plans (Simulation) (Optional)" Part.2

    Hello,
I have problems with this activity. The performance is very low. I decided to obtain the size prediction to know how much i need size for the data to be copied from Productive (sender) system to QA (reciever) system.
But can't obtain it. It gives TIME OUT(Time limit exceeded) for the program "/1CADMC/SAPLDMC000000000002448".
I tried dynamically to change the value for the parameter "rdisp/max_wprun_time" (from 1200 seconds to 3600) but the error is still the same.
    It reads the table J_3RKKRS
Even i tried to comment the %HINTS in the code in the above program: (I have Oracle DataBase)
    IF i_reading_type = '5'.
OPEN CURSOR WITH HOLD MY_CURSOR FOR
      SELECT * FROM J_3RKKRS
        BYPASSING BUFFER
        WHERE (im_it_sel_criteria)
    %_hints ORACLE 'full(J_3RKKRS)'*

        BYPASSING BUFFER
        WHERE (im_it_sel_criteria).
    ENDIF.
The error is the same again.
Will it be solved if i changed the %_HINTS to not to scan all the table but with its index. Like this:
                           %_hints ORACLE 'INDEX ("&TABLE&" "J_3RKKRS~2" "J_3RKKRS^2")'.
Or is there another way, please help!!

  • I try to order other phones but find a data plan is required even for full retail price?

I try to place a order for other phones (to get used to the process) but find even if I choose the full retail price, I still have to choose a data plan.
So the question is that through verizonwireless.com, can I get the pre-order the verizon iphone 6 full price WITHOUT a data plan?

Please clarify what are you trying to do. Do you have an account now? Are you trying to get a new phone on an unlimited data line you already have?
If you are starting a new line, and you are purchasing, even for full price, you must have a data plan with Verizon. You cannot use WiFi only. Verizon policy.

  • Why did my plan change if I paid full retail price?

I bought a new Samsung Note 4 on Saturday at the local Verizon Wireless store, paying full retail price to avoid needing to make any changes to my existing plan. However, I received a data usage alert 10 minutes after leaving the store as my plan was reset to 2GB. I was told by multiple service agents that an IPR was placed to reset my plan back to unlimited. How do I get an update on the status of that request? There is nowhere to check on the Verizon Wireless website from what I am seeing. Thank you.

Congrats on your new device purchase carmencampise. I know how concerning it can be when you see your plan changes unexpectedly. If you purchased a new device at full retail, it should not have removed your unlimited data plan. I understand an inactive pricing request has already been filed. This is the correct step to readd your unlimited data plan back to your account. This process can take 5-7 business days to complete. Have you received an update on the request?
    Thank You,

  • BPX - Are we there?

As per the nomenclature of ‘Business Process Expert’, I am of the opinion that the domain knowledge cannot be generic. The person should be an expert in the specific business process.
The processes in all the industry solutions vary. In some cases, we do have standard SAP consultants configuring an SAP Retail solution. The implementation is bound to go wrong from the word ‘go’. For example, the concepts of Merchandise & Assortment Planning does not exist in standard SAP. What we need is a Retail Expert and not a combination of SD and MM consultants from standard SAP.
Ideally, the Business Process Expert who is part of this implementation should:
    - be a retailer who has actually worked in a retail store/warehouse and understands the retail business processes.
    - have in depth knowledge of the activities covering “purchase to pay”, “order to cash”, “logistics” and “inventory management” in retailing
    - have a practical knowledge of category management, merchandise & assortment planning, forecasting models, replenishment planning, layout management, managing distribution channels etc
    - have configured these functionalities in SAP Retail and understands the business impact of not configuring specific functionalities
    - have knowledge of data transfer to and from external systems like POS, weighing scales, bar code scanners etc
    - have a macro level view of information required by the organizations key stakeholders for decision making.
This is only an indicative list for the purpose of discussion and is in no way comprehensive. The requirements would again vary depending on whether the organization deals with groceries, apparel, fashion, pharma etc.
It may take quite sometime for us to identify Business Process Experts in other industry verticals too like, oil, aerospace, construction, manufacturing, real estate, banking, insurance etc. But, I suppose we have to find them and get there if organizations have to benefit from the rich functionalities SAP is providing in their products.
I suppose the BPX wannabe's will have to start identifying their specific area of  business expertise that will complement their SAP knowledge and thereby help organizations leverage to the next level.
This is my thought and I would like your suggestions on the way ahead…..I am sure that discussions in this forum will show us the right path.

    Babu,
I do definitely agree to your first statement - "<b>I am of the opinion that the domain knowledge cannot be generic. The person should be an expert in the specific business process.</b>"
however a business process expert is more of an enabler. n many cases you would find that business has the domain expertise in terms of domain expertise , but lacks the visibility in terms of the processes required and how to execute the same. A BPX would be a curious mix of Tecnology and business - someone who understands the system deficiencies and also helps eliminate some of the process redundancies that have reasulted due to multiple systems and procedures.
For example - lets take retail - I do understand that SD and MM consultants put together do not make up for a retail consultant - but viewing it this way - you would have a retail domain expert ( client / business) who is not able to get his/her thoughts clearly into understandable terms to the SD and MM consultants who sadly migh view it as a conffiguration rather than a workflow / process. If there is someone who looks at business in terms of processes and workflows and helps the  SD and MM consultants in understanding the situation and also getting necessary feedback in terms of what is possible and what is not , establishin POCs to demonstrate the same , taing the consultants through the existing processes , guiding the client through what it culd be configured as etc etc. Thsi is where the business process expert comes in , h/she may not know IS retail , but will definitely be able to understand the standard procedures - POS , Stocking , etc etc which are more real world and to a certain extent genetic - generic meaning , that the proceses are standard across retailers and could be appeciated by a visit to a Target or walmart and talking to the floor manager - no one stops you from doing that. Basically someone who views the business from a process perspective and not as a series of clicks for configuration. This requires a different mindset and this is what a business process expert tries to do - try and bridge business and technology whilst providing te conmfort to the client that thre is someone who understands the business and the consultants that the BPX is someone who understands their dilemna and will help the implementation succeed.

  • Stock aging + Slow Seller Management

    Hi,
could anyone give me a tip on how to reproduce Stock Aging ( inside Merchandise & Assortment Planning  ) in order to combine it with Slow Seller Management?
    Thanks in advance
    Fabricio Granja

    Hi Fabrizio,
What are you trying to achieve with this?
Reason I ask is that the slow seller analysis transaction in slow seller management checks the sell-throughs of the relevant articles and, based on planed vs. actual sell-through, proposed markdowns (ie. I don't think you need to worry about getting stock aging details into slow seller management - the process is self-contained).

  • SAP MAP - Best Choices for Planning Technical Basis

    Hello, experts!
For today there are 3 variants of MAP planning scenaries implementation:
1.Planning and reporting via MAP Business content for BI Integrated planning
2.Planning and reporting via MAP Business content for BPS
3.Planning in ECC based MAP functionality and reporting in BI
Whether there are recommendations which alternative is more suitable, pro/cons?
It is possible to use standard MAP workflow scenaries with planning in BPS or BI Integrated planning ?
    Regards,
    Dmitry.

    1.     BW Integrated Planning is the new SAP MAP Planning Solution. There is a also BI Content with predefined templates on BI Content 7.04. The next BI Content 7.05 will include many more out-of-the-box Templates.
    a.     7.04 includes predefined templates for Strategic-, Store- and Merchandise Plan for RMA and CMA. Additionally there is a basic template to do seasonal Assortment Planning on Assortment/Style/Color/Size level in MAP and send it to the Operational Assortment Planning and Control in ECC. But no templates for non-seasonal Assortment Planning.

    2.     BW BPS is our old Planning Platform. Don´t use it anymore. There's also no migration option to BW Integrated Planning.
    3.     The (very!) old ERP-based MAP functionality is not supported anymore, thus don't use it. All development goes into the above mentioned (1.) SAP MAP solution based on BW Integrated Planning.
In connection with Integrated Planning, Operational Assortment Planning and Control (OAPC) is the ECC application to plan your seasonal Assortment. The OAPC will get input from SAP MAP either on level Assortment or on level Assortment/Style/Color/Size. Depends on the customer requirements.

  • Clustering for Retail Store Planning

I am a retail consultant in the US specializing in Merchandise and Assortment Planning (MAP).  I am currently on a project at Luxottica Retail Group.  Lux owns LensCrafters, PearleVision, Sunglass Hut and Oakley Sunglasses.
Their LensCrafters brand has over 800 stores.  We are recommending to Lux that they cluster their stores so they will plan 10 or so store clusters rather than plan the assortments for 800 stores individually.  They have done studies that show on styles with few SKU's store clustering works very well.  The problem is with styles with 100's on SKU's.  With those, their studies show that planning at the store cluster level raises their inventory and lowers their service levels.  That is the rub.
Would you have a few minutes to talk with me about what would be the best way to approach the customer on this?  I realize that retail is not your area but I need more of an BI analytical view on this than a strictly retail view.  Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Are you particular about Store Planning or both Startegic ( Cateogery & Item level planning ) and Assortment too. However, i was wondering how store clusters would impact there inventories, as they will create clusters with some dynamic functionalities?

  • Merchandise Category

    HI,
    I have Merchandise Category Levels.
Now i want to know the Merchandise categories of that levels.
Is there any funtion module to find MCs by giving Hierarcy levels.???
    Please help me

    Dear friend,
    Merchandise Planning
The first element in the merchandise plan is the Strategic Plan. This is normally high level, with  perhaps a five year timescale. It is used to set the critical success factors for merchandising in terms of sales, margins & stocks.  Next we would create a Channel Sales Budget. This would allow us to take into account the effect of new channels, new stores, closures and refits. Once complete we would create a Category Level Margin Plan. Here we are creating a weekly version of the strategic plan at category level for sales, margins and markdowns.
We are now starting to get input from the individual merchandisers, and gap analysis between these plans and the strategic plan will ensure that we stay on course.  At the same level we create a Category Level Weekly Sales, Stock & Intake Plan. It is here that we create our Open to Buy, normally the first significant win in the implementation of a planning system.  These category level plans create the box within which the range plan will be created
    Range Planning
We begin here with the Assortment Plan.  In this plan we break down the goals of the merchandise plan into specific lines, or sometimes SKUs. The system should be capable of extending the results so that we can see the effect on overall margin mix, for example, of a change in cost price of an item.
Once the assortment plan is underway we can start Distribution Planning. The lines that we plan are here given a distribution profile. From this we should be able to see both which stores a line is ranged to, and which lines a given store will receive. The link between available physical space and ranging done here is a key determinant of merchandise performance.
In the ideal world we would now create a Line Level Weekly Sales, Stock & Intake Plan This would be the category level W.S.S.I., broken down by line to provide a detailed forecast of sales and stock requirements.  However, volume & time constraints means that this may be for key items only.
At a basic level this provides us with the means to monitor and react to consumer demand
At a more sophisticated level this provides us with the hard currency that can make efficient consumer response systems function effectively. The advent of e-commerce is going to increase the value and importance of line level forecasts shared with our suppliers.
There is another sort of assortment plan emerging now. This is the Graphical Range Plan. This sort of plan moves out of the purely numeric type of planning that has been used up until now and starts to allow the range to be put together in a visual way. Typically digitally stored images are manipulated into collage type storyboards.
    Space Planning
Space planning systems can be split into two types - numeric and visual. Numeric planning systems simply allow users to take account of space available and to calculate ratios like return on space. Visual systems allow users to create 3 dimensional walk-through models of the stores and to preview the look of a store once ranging decisions have been made.
    Conclusion
A system that included all of the above would have taken a strategic vision and translated it into a tactical plan taking into account the constraints imposed by available space and investment capital. This is how planning should be done!
    thanks and regards
    rewards expected.
    vivek

  • Difference between BPS, MAP and Integrated Planning

    HI Experts,
We have a plan to implement the BPS (Business Planningand Simulation) and MAP (Merchandise and Assortment Planning) in retail.
In our BI 7.0 can i use Business Planning (Integrated Planning) or i need to go for BPS and MAP individually.
    Pls suggest me.
    Best Regards,
    Rams.

You also have BPS in Bi 7.  Points to consider:
    1. Future development and new functionalities will be deliverred on IP framework, though you can use old BPS in BI7.
    2. IP does not some of the features that BPS has, but hoping that SAP will deliver them down the road.
