Is MPEG-1 Audio Layer2 16 bit 48 kHz sound DVD ready?

Is MPEG-1 Audio Layer2 16 bit 48 kHz sound DVD ready? That is the audio format my Sony HDR-FX1 records, so I was curious if this can be burned straight to a DVD along with the MPEG-2 video the camera shoots.

i just dont want my audio format changing ... i capture in final cut pro 5.1.
Final Cut - and, for that matter, most audio editors that I'm aware of - will only work with uncompressed sound. This is because it is expected that you will want to change the content in some way, whether by changing levels, mixing tracks together, or equalising/treating the source recordings. This is not possible with compressed sound: it is really just designed for playback, and uses quite serious acoustic masking techniques. The same does not apply to frame-based compressed video (like DV or HDV), where you can leave it as is while editing for a lot of the time.
Are you sure that your camera doesn't record uncompressed sound as well as the .mpeg1? If so, it would be natural for FCP to transfer this, and ignore the compressed version. Alternatively (if it doesn't) the sound is being converted to an uncompressed format on the fly so that you can edit it.

  • Can the Apple TV gen 3 output audio at 24 bit/ 96 kHz?

    Hi,
I have become aware of Apple Lossless music files (ALAC) which I believe are 24 bit / 96 kHz. I have established from the Apple TV specification that it supports Apple Lossless audio files. Does the Apple TV 3rd gen output in 24 bit/ 96 kHz? Thanks.

No, it outputs 48/16 or 48/12.

Help! I am trying to import an MPEG-4 Audio File into Final Cut Express2 but I keep getting a 'File Error: Wrong Type' message. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem. I really need this song for my video. PQu

iTunes - check your iTunes preferences:
    Preferences > Importing -
    - select Import Using AIFF encoding
    - select Custom
    - select Sample Rate 48.000 kHz
    - select Sample Size 16 bit
    - select Channels stereo
Then import your MP4 into iTunes
Then control-click on the track name in iTunes, select Show Song File, which will open a Finder window from which you can copy your AIFF file to any location you want it.

  • Mpeg-1 Audio Issues...

    Hi All,
I have an Mpeg-1 file. Frame size : 720 x 576 (DV - PAL) and Audio : 16 bit Sterio, 44 KHz - Settings that were used to export the Mpeg-1 file.
Now, keeping everything else the same, i need to downsize the audio to : 8 bit mono, 44 khz.
Soundtrack Pro can it do the job on its own ? Does it need any plugin to open the mpeg-1 file. It is not opening the file. What do i do ?
I do not have the source project files, what ever i need to do, i have to do with this mpeg-1 file only.

wouldn't you use Compressor for this application?
    I would.
either that or i would just use Quicktime Pro

  • No 24-bit 96 kHz audio in media pla

I have a vista premium HTPC and a Audigy 2 NX USB sound card connected to a NAD analogue stereo used mainly for TV and music listening with a 2. focal system. Vista is fully updated. I checked 24 bit 96-kHz audio in Vista when i installed it in march -06 and had no audio problems. Some time ago i experienced audio cutting of suddenly while watching or recording TV. I checked the audio settings and found that all ripped audio (wma/mp3) in media player was dead silent without error messages. CD audio works but no ripped material. 24-bit 48 kHz worked, but not 96kHz. Other media players like winamp or foobar2000 plays in 96 kHz, but not media player/media center, is the codec broken or what?. How is the bit depth and frequency you set in creative media console related to the settings in vista? Does it matter what signal the nx is getting in the USB cable? What is the optimal setting in vista and creative audio console?

Doen't matter which faders you use. The final output is all that matters.
For digital broadcasting we use -20dB as the standard tone level. Our max peak (max) runs around -6 dB. Most of the music is much lower because it's RMS value is so much higher that the music is a lot fuller in volume. It goes over poorly when they flip on the video and get blasted out of their chairs.

  • MPEG Streamclip Audio Glitch

Hi, I've been using MPEG Streamclip without any problems... until recently. Has anyone else experiened audio dropping out or glitching when exporting mov's from VOB's?
The audio keeps dropping out in the same place, even when I run MPEG streamclip on a different G5. Playing back the DVD, the audio is fine, it's only when you listen to the mov that you hear the glitches.
Is this a common error? If so, what can do the job of MPEG Streamclip, without the nonsense with the audio glitching?

Well, not if the DVD plays back fine with no glitches. It's only the mov from MPEG Streamclip that has audio issues. I also used Drop2DV on the same VOB and the audio came out fine, however the lack of control in exporting makes me want to figure out what is wrong with MPEG Streamclip.

  • 24 bit Audio through 16 bit Audio Output

    Possibly dumb question but...
I have 24 bit audio files recorded on other equipment. If I edit them in Audition at 24/32 bit but my audio hardware and/or output driver is only 16 bit will that affect the audio processing quality of what I'm doing within Audition?
The output is simply to connect speakers or headphones but everything else such as outputting the processed file to hard drive will be done internally from Audition (i.e. Save As - no mixdowns through external analog outputs or anything).
Will the audio stay 24 bit quality when using 16 bit audio hardware output for monitoring?
    Thanks.

No, the files within Audition will be unaffected by the available bit depth of your soundcard. The only time it would matter is, for instance, if you are making CDs from your audio files or feeding digital out to an external 16 bit recorder in which case you will need to down convert your 24 bit files to 16 using dither for best results when you have finished all the editing/processing. But keep the 32 bit files in case you need to go back and do any adjustments.

  • Importing MPEG-4 audio files into itunes

    Hi,
I am a new user of iTunes. I am unable to import MPEG-4 audio files from an audio CD into my iTunes library. This audio CD was created by a friend on his MAC.
Interestingly, I am able to play the same MPEG-4 files through my Windows Media Player. I have the most recent and updated versions of Quicktime (7.4.5) and the most updated iTunes player for Windows (7.6.2.9). Coincidentally, the same audio CD has some MP3 files which I am able to import into iTunes with no problem.
    Would greatly appreciate any help.
    Thanks

Incidentally, I am able to play these same MPEG-4 files through my QuickTime player just fine.
    Thanks.

  • Why are some songs in a "protected MPEG-4 audio" format

Why are some songs I've purchased in a "protected MPEG-4 audio" format?

iTunes store used to sell its music that way several years ago, but then removed DRM protection as a standard format I think 2 years ago.  How long ago did you make the purchase?  I don't think they still use it on any audio now, but it is definitely used on video.

  • Converting MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected) to MP3

New user purchasing tunes for my Lyrica MP3 player using daughters setup for IPod. Tunes downloaded in MPEG-4 audio file format and are 'protected'. When trying to convert to MP3 it won't because of its protected status. How can I convert them? If I already purchased the songs, can I go back and download them again in the MP3 format? Did I just waste my gift card and need to purchase them all again downloading them in MP3 format? Thanks

I too am interested in this answer. I am trying to copy files from my son's Itunes library to his PSP and it will not play protected files.

  • Where to find MPEG-1 Audio Layer II Codec?

I have a Samsung Digimax V700 digital camera which can create movies saved as .AVI and when the file is played through QuickTime I can see pictures but I can't hear and audio. QuickTime's Movie Properties report the video track as Generic MPEG-4 and the audio as '.mp2' (including quotes).
Subsequent research has stopped me confusing the .mp2 with the MPEG-2 video format, I found that it's MPEG-1 Audio Layer II audio, but I cannot find a suitable codec for it.
I do have other solutions: use another player such as VLC, which plays the video just fine (except that I'd like to be able to play videos through Front Row), or convert the movie's soundtrack to mp3 or similar (except I'd like to keep the video's modification date and time the same, so they appear in the correct place when sorting by date.
When I first load up the movie, QuickTime reports that some required components are missing and offers me a web page of suppliers who don't make the MPEG-1 Audio Layer II codec (as far as I can see). So, does anybody know where I can get a suitable audio codec?

Anyway, I did at least RTFM before I posted here and installed the codec (and I searched the forum before posting, too!).On my system (old PPC G5), the "3ivX D4 4.5.1 for OSX" (which I see you have) and the "XVIDDelegate" (which I don't see) caused a conflict between AVI oriented media and which component would assume playback control. Since you have at least 5 or 6 components that have, at least some, AVI playback capability, would suggest you run a conflict test at this point.
I thought DivX was a video codec only?It is basically a proprietary update of AVI put out by DivX. Their proprietary compression format(s) now have the .divx extension, but the software still handles media contained in the older AVI container.

  • I want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file

i want to convert the MPEG-4 Audio (.m4a) to a window media audio file,  i downloaded some songs so i can run them with a photo slide show on my samsung video.  the machine would not play them (could not find them)  the files that work are all windows media audio

You can't convert to WMA with iTunes. I'd be surprised if the software can't read mp3 files. iTunes can convert to that. Otherwise there are free format converters out on the web. The suite from http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ is handy and includes an audio convertor. There is no need to install their toolbar or any other 3rd party software that gets offered.

  • 24 bit 96 kHz on Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio so

I have a Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card.According to data sheets it has 24 bit 96 kHz recording and output. When I set recording options in Adobe Audition .5 to
    Sample rate to 96kHz
    Stereo
    32 bit float
In the Edit View down left it says "recording as 6 bit"
If I change to 44. kHz it says "recording as 24 bit"?Someone told me that I the HW does not support 24 bit (32 bit float) but is compatible to 24 bit, i.e. it samples at 6 bit but provides internal data that is 24bit. The same somone told me that I needed a E-Mu 0404 card to get true 24 bit(32 bit float) and 96 kHz resolution. Can anyone from the technical support tell if this is the case or not.

  • Why doesn't iTunes add protected MPEG-4 audio files to its music library?

Why doesn't iTunes add protected MPEG-4 audio files to its music library?  I copied these files to my iMac from an old PC laptop that no longer has internet access.

After downloading via iTunes, I move MP3 files from the default iTunes podcast folder to another folder (on an a external disk), I also change the name of the file and I change some MP3-tags.
You download from the iTunes store, delete the podcast, mess with it, move it around, rename it, change the tags then try to add it back to iTunes?
I want all my files in one index, the iTunes Music Library
In iTunes, right click - get info, click the Options tab and set *Media Kind:* to Music.
