Is Mpeg2 the answer?

I want to take homemade DVDs and get them into iMovie for editing and sharing to YouTube. I used to be able to use MPEG Streamclip for that, but now get a message saying "You must install the MPEG-2 Playback Component before trying to export MPEG2 files!"
A couple of questions about that. In reading prior posts it says to use that, or a program called DVDxDV. Can anyone provide recommendations or comparisons of those two products?
Assume I buy the MPEG-2 software, is that something used in conjunction with MPEG Streamclip? Do I still drag the DVD to Streamclip and MPEG-2 operates in the background to create the proper format? If there are setting choices to be made, what do I select for wanting best possible video and audio quality for YouTube?

Apple MPEG2 QuickTime Playback Component works in the background MPEG Streamclip will use it with no intervention on your part.
Open the DVD. If the DVD Player starts up, shut it down. Look at the DVD in the Finder. Navigate to the Video_TS folder and drag the VOB files into MPEG Streamclip. If it offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes.
I use File/Export Using QuickTime in Apple Intermediate Codec at 100% quality in the original dimensions.

Sort of. There is an app called art shop that gives you a place to park clip art. But I don't think you really need it.
If you have a collection of clip art you want available, move it to the camera roll on your pad/ phone, then copy paste into your document the clip you want.
You can get them into the camaera roll by putting them in a single event in your picture library and syncing them over, or e mail them to your self, and save to the camera roll, or send them to drop box, and bring them down that way.
The challenge is getting them all in one place to make it easy for you to find, which is why syncing might be the best approach in the long run.
As near as I can tell there is not a ready made clip art collection in app format laying around.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

this does not help. I have forgotten ALL of the answers to my security questions. I can NOT reset the answers to my security questions without answering two of the three security questions. The other way to reset the answers to these questions is for apple to send me an email on my rescue email addres which I DO NOT HAVE.
