Is MultiSim a fraudulent product?

I'm thinking it is.  I'm thinking that way back when there was Electronics Workbench (EWB), a simple simulator that worked, but too simple for it to catch on any where but in schools, as students could afford it, but engineers couldn't use it.  Then, losing money, as graduating students can't use EWB for real engineering, so minimal return customers, the management of EWB decided to revamp things, via MultiSim, grab the schools' guaranteed cash flow on the coattails of EWB, but the original designers were no longer available to do it again as MultiSim.  But, going in the hole on the MultiSim planning, the product was released anyway, knowing it didn't work and was wall to wall bugs.  Now, years and years later, National Instruments has bought into the money pit that is the MultiSim design, once again seeing dollar signs through schools and the potential for persons such as myself to take MultiSim into engineering.  The problem is it still doesn't work enough to do that.  True, it's easier to use, but it doesn't work, so it can't be used.  The real testing and troubleshooting to fix it has not happened, even as of today.  The turnover rate over the years with EWB-MultiSim is high.  Few remain.  Anyone I've worked with is no longer there; I've gone through many names as I've been turning up these MultiSim bugs for all these years.  I look at it all and the "f" word looks more and more appropriate when it comes to MultiSim (and you pick the version, any version.)  They've jacked up the price fourfold on a product that has never worked enough to take it out of a school classroom.  Likewise, this is also why, as I've cruised around this forum, I've found loads of unanswered questions, students asking for help and getting little.  MultiSim works enough for unknowing students to buy what the teacher is selling, but in reality it's just smoke and mirrors full of industry-supplied parts fudged into somewhat working within the MultiSim kluge.  The bugs will keep coming up until MultiSim is actually troubleshot by knowledgeable people and fixed, but they won't remain with the company long enough.  Why?  Because MultiSim Inc can't pay enough for knowledgeable people to remain AND deal with the, no doubt, tons of bureaucracy that must develop from selling a bad product for this long.
But I started this thread to more hear your thoughts.  I'm so disgusted with MultiSim that I thought I'd just actually say what I've been thinking about the product, partially as a catalyst to hear people who know this product defend it.  However, that's not to say that if you tend to agree with my take above that you can't say something also.  As I see it, the worst that could happen is NI (the latest MultiSim owners) will kick me/us out and delete the thread.  But that won't hurt me a bit.  This forum has done me zero good, and, from the looks of it, NI doesn't even know what's said here.  (They may after my last correspondence with them though, but I doubt it.)   So, though it may be forum suicide, I don't fear such a death.  However, I do see some potential good coming in doing this.  Maybe, just maybe, I am right, that there is still a slight bit of hope for MultiSim.

Hello Euler’s Identity:
I’d like to address some of the frustrations you present in your above post (in addition to the email responses you’ve received from our AEs and myself).  I’m very sorry to hear that you’ve had a negative experience with the software.  As always, our Applications Engineers would be very happy to assist you with any specific technical issues you might be having (I didn’t see any in the original post, and I believe the issue with the LM311 was addressed earlier today.):
I’d like to provide some of the recent history of the Electronics Workbench line of software (Multisim, Ultiboard, Multisim MCU Module).  Electronics Workbench was acquired by National Instruments (NI) in February of 2005 for two primary reasons:
1.)     Provide a World-Class Software and Hardware Solution for Teaching Electronics Education
With NI graphical system design tools such as NI Multisim (industry-standard SPICE simulation) and NI LabVIEW and prototyping environments such as NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS), it is now possible to design, prototype, and compare the characteristics of simulated circuits with real-world measurements in a single electronics education platform.  This complete integration across the design cycle gives students a deeper understanding of the circuit theory they are studying, and ultimately prepares them for more productive careers as design professionals
2.)     Enhance Professional Electronics Design with Tight Integration of Measurement and Analysis Technology
The Multisim SPICE simulation environment integrates tightly with NI measurement technology such as LabVIEW to provide a seamless transfer of simulation and real-world test data.  Professional engineers can now more easily validate designs using simulation data as a benchmark and even create more accurate simulations using real-world data as stimuli.
Additionally, as part of the acquisition, NI committed to develop Multisim and Ultiboard with the same strict focus on quality as the balance of the NI platform – it is one of the key focus areas for new releases.  Version 10, released in January 2007, was the first edition of the software released fully under NI standard software development practices (post-acquisition) and has received very positive feedback from existing users.  Of course, there is always room for improvement and innovation, and you can expect to see continued quality enhancements with each new release of Multisim and Ultiboard.
The NI Electronics Workbench Group team is passionate about making world-class capture, simulation, and layout products both for education and for professional design.  As always, we welcome your constructive feedback to continue to improve these products over time, and we will do everything we can to ensure that you have a good experience with the product.
Best regards,

  • Replacing Battery on Portege' Z935-P300

Has any attempted or thought about replacing the battery on this laptop? At the moment the battery time is still amazing but I can see it starting to deminish faster and take longer to hit the full charge. I just know that down the road a new battery will be needed, thoughts?

DO NOT USE LAPTOPBATTERYONLINE.NET.  They scammed me out of my money for this exact battery.  The battery arrived with most of the Toshiba label torn off, probably by another company in order to mark it as a defective/used battery.  It did not hold any charge.  They also will not refund my money.
This is my email exchange with them, to give you a sense of who you're dealing with. The first email was sent by me on their website.  The rest occured over gmail.  The punctuation, capitalization, and grammar are verbatim.
    They are scumbags.

    Hi,
    I ordered the following battery:
    1 x 8 Cell Toshiba Portege Z935-P300 Z935-P390 Battery
    (LBO-Toshiba-8Cell-PA5013U-1BRS-Z930-6)
My Order Confirmation number was xxxxxx.  I need a Return Merchandise
Authorisation (RMA).  After installing the battery and allowing it to charge
in the laptop overnight, it will not hold a charge.  The battery charge
reading fluctuates from 2% to 100%, with a red "X" in the taskbar icon and a
warning that says "consider replacing your battery".  If the laptop is
unplugged, it shutdowns down suddenly after about a minute.
I ran "powercfg -energy" from the Windows command prompt.  The report
    generated had this:

  • How Do I Get the Use the New Schematic Capture in NI Multisim 11.0?

    Hello Multisim Users!
If you have begun the transition to NI Multisim 11.0, I wanted to provide you with some resources that will definitely help in understanding the benefits of these new features, as well as how (and when) to use them.
The new schematic capture net system in NI Multisim provides a number of benefits to the user. Most notably engineers, can now take advantage of an up-to-date and intuitive circuit design environment. As a part of the complete re-architecture to our schematic capture environment in Multisim 11, users can now place a host of different connectors to symbolize the virtual connections in their designs.
Check out to use these new connectors with this brand new DevZone article (with embedded video): http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/11219
Also available for those transitioning to NI Multisim 11.0, we have created a special FAQ (or KnowledgeBase article) which will demonstrate exactly what to expect from this experience:  http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/AD965CF4EA0F0FD2862576F5006BCB60
Thanks Greatly! We look forward to hearing your feedback on these new tools.

  • HT201472 Why won't Apple protect a registered product (by serial number) from being useable for future service when stolen?

I am trying to understand why Apple doesn't check it's vast databases to check if a product that someone is trying to load with a new APP, Software, or Register in any way when that product was registered to another user and lost or stolen.  I have a password on my iPad and iCould service which I locked and put in the device lost mode (but the iPad was not online wifi version).
I would like to be able to report it as lost/stolen and have Apple watch out for anyone trying to use it.  Seem pretty simple and I am not asking Apple to follow up with anything more than a quick message (device is lost - please call or contact XYZ; this product will not be activated by Apple unless proof is provided that you are the rightful owenr) to the device if it ever tries to connect to Apple.
    Any other ideas???

I would like to be able to report it as lost/stolen and have Apple watch out for anyone trying to use it.
They won't. Apple does not track lost or stolen property. You can comment on the issue to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
but as of this time this is not something Apple does nor have they given any indication that they will do so. The problem is that any user could fraudulently report a product as stolen even if it was legimately given away or sold. Apple has no way of verifying who is indeed the legal owner of a product. That's why they won't talk to anyone in matters of stolen property other than authorized law enforcement.
I am not asking Apple to follow up with anything more than a quick message (device is lost - please call or contact XYZ; this product will not be activated by Apple unless proof is provided that you are the rightful owenr) to the device if it ever tries to connect to Apple.
Activation Lock and Lost Mode in iOS 7 do this now, requiring your Apple ID and password to activate the device. So I'm not sure what more you expect. But again, you can comment to Apple via the feedback pages.
    Regards.

  • Problem in installation of the multisim student edition

i have first installed the multisim student version and uninstalled it.now i am unable to re install the program.i tried to resolve the problem by deleting the directory in program files.please help me to resolve the problem
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Kremmidas,
I suggest using an Administrator acount when installing Multisim software becuase the installer requires to write on some files during installation. To make sure there are not any traces of the software you can try the following.
In the Windows Control Panel go to "Add or Remove Programs".
    - Look for the "National Instruments Software" folder; if you find it click on 'Remove'.
    - Select all the products, click on 'Remove'.
    - Restart your computer.
    - Manually locate and delete the following folders:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments
    C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\National Instruments
Note: It might be possible that the 'Application Data' folder is hidden, so you have to make it visible in Windows.
    - Restart computer.
    - Download Multisim from our website:
    http://www.ni.com/multisim/try/
    - Choose the version you have
    - Once that you have downloaded the installer just run it, it will unzip the contents of the installer and the installer will start automatically.
    - Enter your Serial Number and continue the installation.
Please let me know how this works.

  • Stolen product

    Hi,
I sold my ipad online. After the buyer collected it, I noticed that the proof of payment that he supplied was fraudulent. I have done a factory reset on the ipad before I gave it to him. Is there some way of getting the product serial number from my Apple ID so that I can provide more details when I open a case? I know I should have done it differently, but can't change it now. If there was some way of blocking the device that would be even better.
    Thanks

If it's still registered to your account then it should be on your account's support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
Or do you have a backup of the iPad on your computer's iTunes ? If you do then go into Edit > Preferences (iTunes > Preferences on a Mac) and on the Devices tab hover your mouse pointer over the iPad's backup - there is a screenshot approx 2/3 of the way down this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061
If it's no longer linked to your iTunes account via iCloud then you can't try and locate it.

  • Using gate turnoff thyristor in multisim

Hi, i'm new to multisim. Im doing a project in which i need a to place a gate turnoff thyristor. But i dont know any product no. So please help me locate in the multisim library!

    Hi there,
Are you looking for a specific component? What's your Multisim version/edition (you can find this in the File>>About Multisim menu). In the Master Database, Diodes Group you can find a numbers of SCRs, DIACs, TRIACs.

remade circuit model 74LS244N, now pattern16t file works in different versions of multisim.
how much do you think pattern16t cicuit could be worth.
this circuit interfaces with gpib, scsi, usb computer interface circuits.
this is just the hardware. software still would have to be made for each computer.
basicly there are the computers with a different interface.

    Hi there,
The application sounds interesting for interfacing instruments or devices with these buses. Of course, you have to take into consideration that there are off-the-shelf products that come with drivers, etc.
By the way, I really liked how you organized the schematic in Multisim with buses, etc.

  • Database access denied for MCT6 in Multisim 10 Student Edition

I am getting this error for a component that I was able to use over the
last few days.  The component is the MCT6 optocoupler.
    Luckily I had
saved an older version of my circuit, or I would be screwed.
    I am using
Multisim Student Edition Version 10.0.267 on Windows XP Pro SP 2 with all updates.
I found the documentation on what parts are available for the student edition.
According to the list, the MCT6 optocoupler should be available.
    I've
tried removing and reinstalling the product 3 times.  The last time, I went into
the registry and removed everything related to National
    Instruments.
Nothing has worked.  Why is this happening?
    Thanks,
    Melissa
    P.S.
    I'm still
getting the OLE error from this post:

Melissa, this is the same response as for the post you placed on the LabVIEW board.
So I found the error, the component database the flag used to indicate whether a component belongs to a particular tier or not is incorrectly set in that component, the MCT6, according to our datasheet it is supposed to be included in the Student Edition. I will report this immediately to R&D, but in the meantime... I created a new component for you, its the same component but you should be able to add it to your user database.
Download the attached PRZ file, open Multisim, and go to File >> Open, point to this file, it will prompt you to add it to your user database, accept all the default questions and click Start, once its done, exit the dialog. Your component should appear on Place >> Component... select User Database... I think I configured it to be on the same place... Misc >> OPTOCOUPLERS... check it out.

  • Initial testing Multisim + ULTIboard Buglist

I have been testing Multisim and ULTIboard (V10.0.144) for 1 day to see whether it really works and is usable.
I'm still working with Ulticap and Ultiboard V5.7x and consider changing over.
I have found the following problems in the process of Schematic-entry to layout.
    Multisim
    1.  Netnames can not have delimiters like + and -.That is not so nice, specially, since imported schematics allow this and  are not checked for this.
    2. Once a schematic is transferred to ULTIboard, the router only routes on the top layer. This is caused by an incorrect setting in Multisim (routing layer is set to top by default.
This propagates via the netlist to ULTIboard. Manual routing is not limited.
    3. Multisim allows enabling of gate and pin swap. The default is OFF. This should probably be ON.
    4. gate swap know On/Off, but ultiboard interprets On as "Internal swaps only". The designed obviously did not know the idea behind this. Ultiboard allows inter-gate swaps if the other (common connections) match with the other package. Thus Ultiboard should interpret ON as "Advanced swapping". 5. After gateswap (in ULTIboard) and backannotation into Multisim, the unused gate list does not represent the new situation. When placing new gates, one can place a gate that is already in use.
    6. The Reports "Bill of material, "Netlist report" and "Spare gate report" lack a CSV (comma or tab separated) list. If excell is not available, but OpenOffice or a database is, there is no way to get there. Oddly enough, the spreadsheet view does allow CSV output....., but does not have a BOM.
    ULTIboard
    1. Slotted holes can be made and show correctly. However in the DRILL file, it is wrong. In my case, a horizontal slot came out vertically. A vertical slot also vertically.
    2. A forward annotate to ULTIboard un-places parts that are updated. This is NEVER what you want. Specially if you want to change all resistors and capacitors to a different SMT shape.
    3. Gate swapping in Ultiboard does NOT allow to swap to unused gates. This makes the function sort of useless. It must allow to swap to ALL (identical) gates in a package.
    4. The pin swap function does not show which pins can be swapped. You now have to rely in Click-and-miss.
    3. There should be an option per component, to exclude it from component  shoving. Think of a heat sink or RF shielding can, that must be placed over other parts.
Note that I have not done any serious tests on the gerber and drill output.
I know that this is a 'negative' list, but these are not difficult issue to solve and do make the package workable.
Also, I do like a number of important features that do work:
    - Multiple instances of a single (hierarchical) sheet
    - Automatic sheet symbol creation/update
    - Copper in footprints
    - drawing on any layer, allowing for proper production preparation.

Hi, first of all, I really want to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I went through all the suggestions and I will provide you with the
"where we are at" on each of them.
Before listing each feedback, I wanted to recommend that you use the latest evaluation edition (10.1); which you are also able to update to the latest build(10.1.0.1) if needed. This will ensure that you are working with the most up-to-date evaluation.
I will describe each suggestion with the same number that you had on your posting.
    Multisim
For the next update (date TBA) we are allowing delimiters in more parts of the suite (Multisim and Ultiboard) which were previously forbiden. However, specifically for netnames we have not yet implemented the ability to use delimiters. We are currently working to overcome this limitation in the mid-term.
This has been fixed in two phases, one was added to the 10.1 release, and the other phase will be added in our next update (date TBA).
I filed a feature request for R&D so they can change the default settings. Makes a lot of sense to have it enable by default.
I filed a feature request for R&D so they can evaluate changing the current behaviour.
This was hard to reproduce but I was able to see the behaviour once. I filed a defect for R&D. I'm using the latest version (10.1 with update 10.1.0.1). Part of the fix for this is in the works, is in a mid-term improvement project for Forward and Back Annotation procedures.
I filed a feature request for R&D so they can add this ability to the reports.
    Ultiboard
This is fixed. Is working correctly in the latest version.
The fix for this is in the works, is in a mid-term improvement project for Forward and Back Annotation procedures.
I filed a defect for this manner. Unused gates should be available to be swapped from Ultiboard, agreed.
I filed a feature request for this one. The pins that belong to the same PINGROUP for swapping should show a guide like the Gate Swap.
I filed a feature request for R&D so they can review this request.
Thank you for passing this information to us, I'm glad to see that a couple of the issues are already fixed in the current versions, other fixes are already in the works, and new features proposed will be recommended for future releases. This feedback helps us improve our product on every release.

  • Misleading and Restrictive Product Information Provided, for inducing customer to buy – by Apple Premium reseller  - Unicorn Info Solutions Private Limited

    Facts of the Case
    IPHONE 3GS – Serial QRxxxxxY7H
We have visited the apple premium reseller M/s Unicorn Info Solutions Private Limited, Himalaya Mall, Ahmedabad, hereinafter called as “reseller”. On 10th August 2012, the sales representative at the store informed us that since we have an old apple phone, we were offered a scheme whereby against payment of Rs. 10000/- a new apple 3GS phone was to be provided against return of the old phone.
We have an MTNL Sim and on our return to Mumbai, we were surprised to find that the product showed No Service. We visited the I store in Mumbai, Ghatkopar, R – City Mall and were asked to contact the apple care. Accordingly we contacted the apple care and we were assigned case id xxxxxxx, whereby we were informed to contact Vodafone.
On contacting the Vodafone gallery at Ghatkopar, Mumbai, we were asked to wait for two days. After 2 days Vodafone informed us to contact the apple care only.
Upon again contacting apple care we were asked to contact the apple reseller M/s Unicorn who has sold the product.
M/s Unicorn, Ahmedabad, directed us to contact support office in Mumbai, Andheri where the issue would be resolved. We visited the Andheri office, but we told that nothing could be done, and neither the product could be returned back, even if it is no use to us and was sold by adopting misleading and fraudulent information.
    Grievance
At no point we were informed that this phone will work with only Vodafone. The important legal principle of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) was obviously absent and not followed by the reseller.
Moreover, the payment was made for an Apple phone and there was no mention of Vodafone, or of any agreement of whatsoever nature with the said company.
Firstly, to sell a product (Iphone) with a restrictive covenant to use complimentary product (Vodafone) without the knowledge of the buyer and in the absence of any legal contract, is a “Restrictive trade practice” under the Competition Act and erstwhile MRTP Act.
Secondly, the irresponsible attitude adopted by the reseller (M/s Unicorn) who sold the product, (M/s Apple Inc) the manufacturer and M/s Vodafone, which has put restriction on the product use without any valid contract is not at all appreciated. More so they have made us to run from pillar to post without even the product being able to start its usage.

Posting a review on Unicorn Infosolutions Pvt Ltd, Third Floor, Himalaya Mall, Gurukul Road, Near Drive In Cinema, Ahmedabad, Gujarat - India
Person whom I spoke to - Ritesh Chauhan (I think, not sure of this first name)
My Macbook pro battery has given up, its time for replacement.
I happened to visit this store a few days ago, store is not the IMAGINE Retail store at Ground floor instead on the opposite side wing its on third floor, and a small board outside called Unicorn.
The executive whom I spoke with turned out to be really rude. Didn't understand my concern and went on forcing his views on me.
Although my laptop was still under warranty and having spoken to Apple Technical Support, I already gave him the information on phone prior to my visit, things were just not alright even then.
He was just way to busy explaining me how he does things and what are the procedures and so on, very bad behaviour, no care towards their customers and because we are customers who are not going to pay them anything as our products are still under warranty, they are really not interested in us, we are more like a liability on them (at least that's what I felt from my visit).
Refrain from going there guys, look out for an alternative Apple Authorised Service Centre. My positive experience was with the one at Galaxy Mall, Nehru Nagar, Near Shiromani Complex.
Their office is located at second floor in that mall, the person whom I met with was very humble and actually cared for me queries to get them resolved in a manner that would be best for me.

  • Possible fraudulant phone number from Apple online store.

Just wondering if anyone in the Apple community has had experience with fraudulent phone numbers from the Apple online store. The number in question is 1 800 506 3096 with a person named Michael with ext "1111015" needing to verify an iPhone purchase from placed by my father. Only thing is my father has never owned an Apple product and really doesn't even know how to order things online. My parents checked their credit statements and found no purchases so no identity was compromised.

It was a message left on my parents home phone, the man named Michael left the number and his ext in the message saying he needed to confirm details about a new iPhone purchase placed by my father.
-Update to the situation, my mother called the actual online store number the 1 800 my apple, spoke to a supervisor asking about this number that called them, the supervisor said he would call the number himself, after on hold for a minute or two he came back and said himself that the number was an actual apple online number. I seriously doubt it because I Googled the 1 800 506 3096 number and came across numerous  posts saying they got a call from a Michael asking to confirm details about a purchase.

  • Can I merge database of multisim analog device version in multisim?

Can I merge database of multisim analog device version in multisim?
If yes, please tell me how. Thx!
I saw the file named "MSCOMP_S.prd" in the folder:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Multisim Analog Devices Edition 10.0\database

    Hi Zenith,
The databases between the two products are not compatible and therefore cannot be merged. This database was created specifically for the Analog Devices Edition. Merging two "Master" databases is also not possible since the merge utility will only allow merging two "User" or "Corporate" databases.

  • How do I show multi-voltages in Multisim?

I am trying to place +12v, -12v and +5v voltages in my schematic to power IC's.
What symbol do I use? VCC is no good, cannot use more than one voltage applied to it. Change one, all change. Test_pt is no good, same reason. Is there a universal symbol that does not have to be used in simulation for voltages?
We do not simulate most of our boards. They are re-builds of old military equipment. Most of the parts are not even in production anymore.
    Thanks for the help.
    scotty544

Sorry, but I do it the simple-stupid way:
    ---- +12 -----
    ----  -12 -----
    ---- +5 -----
Tie analog ground (GND) between the + 12 and -12 supplies like so:
    (-12) ----- +12 ---- GND ---- +12 ---- (+12)
Then connect the IC as necessary (using the (-12) and (+12) ends) via traces.  Yes, I know it can be a mess of traces, but I'd rather know what I have than guess how Multisim interpretted things for me.
Then, of course, tie your +5 supply to the ground.  Now every supply is referenced to ground.
If there is an easier way, it sure hasn't become clear to me.

  • No menu bar in Ultiboard and Multisim

    Hi,
A while ago I had problems on my computer and had to remove the circuit design suite.
It was very difficult and I had to use MSIblast to remove everything. and clean the registry.
Af few days ago,I installed NI ultiboard and Multisim 10 on my home computer (and upgraded to 10.0.1)
and now I use the evaluation time (currently 26 days) before I activate my product (waiting until it works well)
    There is no license problem.
When I start the program, it takes quite some time t start (normal) but I only get a window, nothing more, no menu-bar...
The program seems to run well, I can use the F1 button, it is not crashed.
I also get no fault-messages while starting.
I added a screenshot (well, there's nothing to see)
Can anybody tell me what's going wrong?
By the way, I installed the program on the D-disk, not C, but I guess that shouldn't be a problem
    Thanks
    Johan

    Hi? me again... :-)
I finally got through all of it.
Multisim and Ultiboard are both running.
    Here's what I did:
-I removed the program through the windwos procedure
-Then removed all NI program folders
-There was a folder on the D disk that seemed to contain the licenses, even after my previous installation on the C disk
-Then removed all NI data from the registry.
-The used the original version 10 CD and installed it
At that moment both Multisim and Ultiboard worked
    -Than tried to update:
The update utility got updated first.
Then a huge patch (290 Megs) got downloaded.
I did not install that, I interupted and ran it manually:
I had two patches downloaded, a smal one, upgrade to version 10.0.267
another large one was an upgarde to version 10.0.1
I installed the first one , that went fine, even though the language for the upgrade was German instead of English
I will not install the version 10.0.1 , this seems to be a whole new installation and it asks for my serial number codes again...?
By the way, which is the latest version? 10.0.267 seems a higher version than the 10.0.1... or not?
After updating to the 10.0.267 version I tried the update utility once more, and it would download the 10.0.1 version for some 280 Megs
Should I install that one or not?
I hope my story will help other people hanving troubles with installing and licences...
    Johan
