Is my 3G iPod worth revitalizing?

Here's my dilemma. I have a 3G iPod. It's in great condition and I love it. Recently, the battery has gotten wors and worse, but now it's at a point where it coesn't really hold a charge anymore. But,I'm wondering if holding a charge is its only problem. I often get a battry icon with a question mark. Hmmm...what does that mean? Also, I seem to notice that the settings often resets itself, but I don't know if that do to the lack of battery power. For example, when I plug in my iPod to a power source, say an outlet, the first thing that pops up on my screen is the language selection menu, and then as I dig further lots of my settings revert to factory settings like Shuffling is back to its default "No" shuffling. All my MP3s are still on my iPod, so I haven't lost any data. Is my dilemma, just a battery issue? If so, what are people's opinions about the 850 mhz Newertech battery offered at OWC (One World Computing)???
Thanks!!!!

Hi,
Yeah. I think the battery is the culprit. When your battery runs down to the end, it makes the battery life even shorter, and you see the battery with the ? mark. I've accidently run down the battery (the same generation you have) several times, and I would see this icon. I think, I'm not 100% sure, but if you frequently run the battey to the end, then the iPod resets itself and goes onto sleep mode. (thats why the battery w/? mark appears; its meant to conserve the last few bits left to keep the custom settings active) If the battery is completely drained, there would be no more power to keep the clock running, and to keep the custom settings active. Again, I've been only using my iPod for 6 months, so I'm not definitely sure, but I can telly you that I've experienced similar problems. Can you remember the date of which your iPod was purchased on? If you're the original owner, and you bought your iPod before May 31, 2004, then you can participate in the Apple iPod Battery Settlement. Here's the URL, check it out and see if your iPod qualifies. http://www.appleipodsettlement.com/index.html If you aren't the original owner, then...forget it. But I think replacement batteries from other places are good deal, and I'm thinking of replacing my battery one day.
Hope this helps

  • Is nike+ipod worth it??

Hi im a high school football and baseball player and i just got a new pair of the nike+ shox and i just sold my psp i was going to use that money on a ipod nano and the nike+ kit but im having some second thoughts can anyone help me out and tell me if its really worth it?
iMac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This is a relative question. I've owned all of the present and past iPod incarnations....I struggled with the original and present hard drive design iPods since running with them was largely ineffective and led to problems with their functioning. The iPod shuffle was nice for jogging, but the lack of a display or other advanced functions left me cold. The Nano by itself is a great item....perfect for running and flashy enough for daily use without the large capacity or video. I can store all the tunes I want to run and for most weekends out....I wouldn't ditch my 60 gig iPod Video, but it's a different animal for me. The Nike+ kit is very useful for me as a casual runner and for my general use needs. Is it an earthshattering product??? Not yet...it's been out a whopping 14 days....it's got some kinks and Nike is certainly new at handling this technology (especially considering it's a cooperative endeavor with Apple). For $29 it's certainly worth it to me. The Nano...an awesome product....So...the answer for me is clearly "YES" it's worth it. Don't buy both items if you think the Nike + system will change your life...you'll be disappointed. It's a great little accessory. It'll lead to better accessories with more training functions (yeah...us early adopters get to test the products at our own expense so more patient folks can get a better finished product next year).
    Good luck,

  • Is new iPod worth it?

I like the news of the new movie download feature, but it is worth it on that iPod screen?

    Dual 1GHz G4 Silverdoor   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The discussion terms of use state: "Feedback about new feature requests or product enhancements are welcome too." So, not all topics have to relate to technical problems. I would imagine that a discussion about using an Apple product for its advertised purpose is OK.
If you have a desire to watch movies on your iPod and you're the law abiding sort, then yes, it is worth it. If you're an unscrupulous type who would rather buy the DVD and copy on to his/her i|Pod, or you just don't watch videos on your iPod, then no, it probably isn't worth it.
In the end, only you can answer the question of whether it is worth it or not; everyone is different.

  • Is my ipod worth anything?

I have an ipod touch. I believe it's a first generation. There's really nothing wrong with it, just a few scratches. I hardly ever use it anymore since I have an iPhone. Is there any way I could make a profit from it?

It's clearly worth something, and if it's working correctly you certainly could sell it. Even if it wasn't working some people buy for parts, though obviously they don't pay much. You can look on eBay for the sale prices for iPods of your same vintage and capacity and get an idea of what you might ask for it. You can confirm what model you have here:

  • Is my 40 GB non video IPOD worth replacing battery?

I bought my first Mac when Panther came out. Thus my first Ipod was dated to whenever that is. I have a firewire connection and a charger stand and I spent a whole bunch on peripherals to add photos, do voice recording, etc. I saw in Scott Kelby's Doing Cool Things with your IPOD book, that batteries eventually need replacement. He compares bringing to Apple Store with sending out to two online vendors. I have not yet upgraded to a video IPOD, but have been happy with books on tape and audio notes, music withthis old ipod. Unfortunately, other concerns left it in the charger with my Mac sleeping and Scott tells me Use it or Lose it. I want to replace this battery unless you all tell me it is a dead horse. I am about to buy an IPod touch for myself and a Nano for my student daughter. The granddaughter and son all fight over the Nano they already have . It is the reall slim one. I cannot see on About my Mac what the serial number or model is on this IPOD. Is it sane to replace battery for use by me for listening to books on tape. ??Are these on line replacement places better for older IPODS than Apple store for cost? Any advice appreciated. Out of date in San Diego. PS I spend about 8 hours on laptop surfing or using web sites for tranining (NAPP,Lynda.com). It is awkward to always be attached to laptop. Have it linked to my HDMI TV. Which helps but I have to control stop/pause/play with scroll bar thumb two fingers, etc. Please any help if if is ok to put money into this IPOD.

If it's a 40GB non-video iPod with a color screen, it is an +iPod photo+ (aka +iPod with color display+ ), which is a 4th gen iPod. If it has a monochrome display and a click wheel, it is an earlier 4th gen iPod. If it has a touch wheel and 4 round touch buttons, it is a 3rd gen iPod.
Replacing the battery yourself is not that difficult on any of the above mentioned iPods. The hardest part is opening the case, which is actually not that hard if you do it properly.
You can buy replacement batteries for lest than $10, including the shipping and the plastic tools.
    [For example, if the iPod is a 4th gen.|http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-for-APPLE-Ipod-20GB-20-GB-MP3-Player-4th-Gen-4 GW0QQitemZ400038705242QQcmdZViewItemQQptZOther_MP3_Player_Accessories?hash=item40 0038705242&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1% 7C294%3A50]
(I don't know anything about this particular seller.)
There are online guides, such as this one
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Browse/iPod_Original
and there are probably video guides on YouTube.
Although the battery may be weak and not hold a charge, does the iPod otherwise work properly. If so, it is certainly worth less than $10 to replace the battery. However, if you have to pay more than $60 to get it replaced, then it may not be worth it compared to the price for a new or refurb (on Apple's Special Deals page) iPod.

  • Water damaged iPod (worth a shot)

My iPod after the bag it was in got absolutely SOAKED on a water ride at a theme park (I forgot it was in there). Tried putting it in rice, putting it in airing cupboard etc. It's quite difficult to open up, so does anyone else have any other ideas? It's been 4 days since it actually happened so guessing any water in there has dried by now.

Try the sealed container with uncooked rice for a week and periodically change the rice.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage, loss or theft.  It is a warranty, not an insurance policy.   You may be eligible for an out of warranty replacement at your cost - http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod

  • My 2nd gen Ipod touch (repair or dump it?)

When I plug in any headphones into it one channel is not working anymore. Also battery does not last long either. Needs new battery. Is this Ipod worth fixing and can it be do it yourself? Or time to send to the bone yard?

If you are really attached to it, you can get parts and tools on eBay, and Google will help you find "How-To" guides, some are even multi-media.
I repaired a 2nd gen, and its fairly easy.  Just be careful with the digitizer glass.  It is VERY fragile, and when it breaks the shards can be very small and very sharp...

  • Apple Rebates iPod + apple computer

Apple computer and iPod purchase = up to $200 rebate for the iPod!!!!!
Okay apparently Apple can't find my rebate information in anyway only thing that could of happened is that it was lost in the mail. It's not my fault not their fault, I still want my rebate accidents happen things get lost I have proof of purchase and its my fault and "theres no way you can get your rebate"(from rebate customer service ) I bet Steve jobs would be pretty ****** to see his customers treated this way!!
I call apple today and say hey whats going on why haven't I got my rebate its been more than 6-8 weeks, of course they can't find my information ID claim # which is weird cause they sent me an email with my ID claim # ***!!! I leave a complaint with apple open up a case number. Is that it? I still want my rebate. I have done everything right I can take pictures of my box to show the cut out upc codes, apple has proof of my purchase of the computer and iPod that correlate to the apple's promotion. Any suggestions to how I get my rebate???
    any help would be appreciated

My son has recently bought an Imac, with the rebate offer of a free Ipod worth £85. He sent in his claim form with the required bar-code labels (why are they requires, I ask myself, when they KNOW he's made a purchase from them?!!!)
His claim has been rejected as "#the UPC label (bar code label) cut from the product box(es)were not included witht the coupon/application".
Sorry, but THEY WERE! This was sent to him in a "DO NOT REPLY" email.
Customer service? I don't think so: so where does he go from here? Consumer Association (Which), BBC Watchdog, Tabloid newspapers, Trading standards? Take your pick, Apple! - unless you send him the Ipod to which he is fully entitled PDQ.
Is there a crooked postman about, or even someone at Apple Rebate Center (sic) on the make who is tampering with the claims?

  • IDVD Export to iTV

I've burned to DVD my work but would like also to move it into iTunes for iTV and Ipod use.
    Possible or...?

FShippey is our iDVD expert (especially when it comes to Eye TV products working w/ iDvd). But I haven't seen him post in the last few days. I'm hoping he returns soon to address these exact questions. I'll warn you that I have no experience whatsoever with this product whereas Fred does....
But nevertheless I'll give it a shot. This may or may not be the preferred approach as far as exporting the movie to an iPod (worth a try):

  • Any way to downgrade app?

After clicking "Download all free upgrades", almost 50% of apps can't be transferred to iPod.
Is there anyway to downgrade apps?
I paid money for them and "free upgrade" made them unusable. It's so rip-off. No warning like "it won't run on your iPod after upgrade" or something. Have I agreed policy like "upgrading paid apps may make them total rubbish but you can't complain"?

i have to pay additional money
What? A whole $5... That's an absolute bargain for what you get.
If you don't want to benefit from the enhancements in the latest OS, then you don't get to benefit from Apps that use those features.
As time goes by, more and more Apps will require the latest OS.
Is $5 really such a huge barrier to you updating? Skip a Starbucks or two and use that money to buy the update.
    You've got a MacBook and 3 iPods, worth $$$ yet you're quibbling over $5 - that's ridiculous...

  • Is the iPod Touch 5 worth buying now?

I wanted to buy the iPod touch 5th gen to experience all the cool features from the ios 7 .. I'm an android user but I have an iPad 3 at home which is my mother's and my sister has an iPhone 4s and a 5s. I just thought that i should get myself an ios device too. My price range is somewhere around the iPod touch 5 price so is it worth it to buy it now? Should I hold up for a while and wait for the next ipod? or is it ok if buy it now . of course the ipod isn't using the latest processor from apple but it's the same processor as the iphone 4s. it also packs up a 512 mb ram just like the iphone 4s. let's say if i couldnt wait any longer for the next ipod to come, should i buy it now? and if i bought the 5th there is no chance i'll have enough money to buy the 6th when it came out. the big question is, should i buy it now or wait for the next? I appreciate your answers.

Should I hold up for a while and wait for the next ipod?
The only way to avoid having to answer that for yourself is to wait until Apple is about to go out of business or stop making iPods altogether. That way, you can be sure there will never be a next iPod.
