Is my 9800 locked to O2

Hi all,
Ive been looking around the internet for the answer to this but dont have solid proof that my phone is now free to connect to other networks. Any help or advice would be fantastic. O2 cant/wont help as I cannot give them a valid O2 mobile number (the device doesnt have a SIM in it, because we have multiple Blackberries and users and we re-use devices when somebody leaves. However, SIM cards get taken out and we lose track of who last used it or what network they were on/ there mobile number).
Anyhow if I browse to Options --> Device --> Advanced System Settings --> SIM card  I see "SIM Card: No Valid SIM Card", which I expected because there is no SIM. Underneath that I see Identity And Associations, and then there is nothing. The only reason I know this phone was once associated with the O2 network is that i see an O2 splashscreen when the device turns off.

Hi JSanders,
Sorry didnt realise that characters didnt appear when typing heres what I get:-
Personlaisation:
SIMDisabled
NetworkActive
Network SubsetDisabled
Service ProviderDisabled
CoprporateDisabled
So based on what I read on the internet before posting here, this would suggest the phone is not locked and can be used on a network other than O2, is this correct?
Your device is indeed locked to the branded provider.
If you wish to unlock, you follow the same link instructions, that's a trusted and reputable unlock vendor.

Tried turning on FileVault but it doesn't appear to be working.  The "System Preference" screen is showing that its trying to calculate how long its going to take but the performance monitor shows no disk activity.  Its been that way for about 20 hours.  What process should be running?
I tried adding an additional id to the list of those that could unlock the disk.  It fails with an unknown error and the system log shows the following:

Okay.  I restarted and all is good.  All accounts are appearing on the login screen and system preferences shows that FileVault is off.
Reading some blogs on FileVault it appears that you can't use it if you've partitioned your drive.  Which I have done.  Looking at my original reasons for encrypting and how anyone logging in can see the disk sort of defeats the need for encryption.

  • I get Blackberry 9800 and using last 18 months. Now lock and unlock not working I am in India No chance to repair in India since get out side

I am using blckberry  9800 for the last 18 months. Now it is not woring lock and unlock .I contact all dealers in India and they told they are unable to service and repair since I purchased from out side India.I purchased from Dubai .What shall I do please

No matter where you purchased it, it's beyond the one-year warranty.  To repair it would probably cost more than it would to replace it with a new phone (even if it's a used phone and new to you).
    I hope that helps you.

  • MEP LOCK BB 9800

    Please guys, help me!!
My BB 9800 have the MEP Code lock, how can I unlock?

To determine if your BlackBerry is already "unlocked" or not:
    1. On your BlackBerry, go to Options > Advanced Options > Sim Card.
    2. At that screen type MEPD (see note below) on your keyboard. A new menu will pop up.
        * If your BlackBerry has a SureType keyboard (71xx, 81xx, 91xx devices) you will need to double-tap the P, so the actual keys entered become M E P P D.
    3. Look for Network in the list.
    4. If your device is "unlocked", it should say Disabled or Inactive. If it says Active, it's still locked to that carrier.
If you need instructions on how to unlock your BlackBerry for use on a
carrier other than the one to which it is branded, check out BlackBerry
    Unlocks
and read this link for instructions.
After the ten MEP entry code attempts have been used, you must get RIM to unlock the device.
There are two routes, and only two, to achieve this.
    * IF your device is in warranty, contact your service provider technical support. Tell them you have this issue which needs to be escalated to RIM level customer support. I'll warn you that most carrier technical support people will first assume and think you are referring to a device security unlock, and you will need to convince them otherwise and explain clearly what you need. THEY will not be able to help you because the carriers themselves cannot unlock a device which has had the MEP code attempts depleted, and should (and you will need to ask) to have the case escalated to RIM level tech support.
    * If your device is out of warranty, contact RIM direct. See the Contact Us information from the website: http://ca.blackberry.com/contact/ The options you want to select to speak to BlackBerry Customer Care are 3 (for inquiries, orders, billing, e-RMA etc) then 5 (e-RMA and Out of Warranty).

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please see this helpful thread to start:

If you have used up all of your chances to enter the correct unlock code, there is nothing further you can do. Even if you happen to have now the correct code, it is useless. Only the factory can now (legally) unlock your BB. Typically, I've heard that the cost of having BlackBerry do this for you will be greater than the cost of just buying a new one. But, you are able to ask them...see here:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/programs/technical/incident.jsp
Note, however, that this process will start with a fee...
If you obtained your unlock code from somewhere but it was incorrect, your recourse could be with them -- however, they may well question why you exhausted all 10 attempts before contacting them.
If your BB was already MEP locked and you obtained it from a source that represented it as being able to be unlocked, then your recourse would be with the seller you obtained it from.
    Good luck!

  • 9800 Screen Locking Up

I have had a Blackberry Torch 9800 for 12 months and I removed it from my vehicles "Hands Free Kit" and put it in my phone holder on my belt. When I removed the phone from my holder, the screen was black and frozen and none of the button worked, not even the touch screen. The phone works correctly if I open the slide but shuts off when I close the slide again. When the slide is opened I have no on screen typing and have to use the keyboard on the slide. When I put the phone back in my hands free kit, the slide needs to be closed so I cannot answer any calls or use the touch screen. Can anyone help me as to the cause as I have not changed any settings?,

    Hello
    Welcome to the Community
Please remove the battery while the device is ON, put it back and let it reboot. This process fixes the device' modules in order for it to set the phone free from glitches. Please let us know if this issue still there after the reboot. Goodluck

  • P7n Dimaond Vista 64 bit lock-ups

Hi, I'm experiencing random hard lock ups of my newly built Vista 64bit PC
I've reinstalled the OS 3 times, i have all the latest drivers.
I've ran memtest several times and the vista memory diag tool with no errors, and on individual sticks. i have stress tested my CPU and GPU with no errors many times.
it sometimes freezes 5 mins after booting up, when surfing the web, when on screen-save,r when typing in word and when playing games, sometimes it will be fine for hours then suddenly just freeze up.
I see nothing in the Event Viewer.
    My setup:
MSI p7n Diamond with latest official BIOS version fomr the MSI site.
    Intel e8400 @ 3.00GHz (stock)
    XFX 9800 GTX Black Edition
    4x1GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2 Ram
    Antec Quattro 1000W SLI PSU
    Trust 5.1 Sound Card.
    Hitatchi SATA HDD
    Pioneer SATA DVD/RW
    Zalman 9700NT CPU cooler.
I updated the BIOS using MSI live update, but it was freezing before the update aswell.
I cant find any pattern to the freez-ups it seems entirely random.
I have manually changed the ram voltage in BIOS to 2.1V (manufacturers reccomendation) and changed timings.
However even at stock values it still freezes
    Thanks for reading

    YIKES
Whatever you do, never attempt to update the BIOS of a system that is freezing randomly, especially via MSI Live Update.  In fact, you'd be well advised to avoid MSI Live Update entirely.
The most commonly suggested method for flashing BIOS is via USB disk method and only after booting to DOS, not Windows.  Even in these conditions, if there are hardware issues that are still preventing the system from running stable (e.g. failing PSU, excessive heat, etc.), you should not attempt to flash the BIOS.
Attempting a BIOS flash under any of these conditions is risking permanent and irreparable damage to your motherboard.
As for your Vista 64 lockups, I personally am not convinced that Vista drivers are completely reliable yet, much less Vista 64.  Another possibility is that your PSU is failing.

  • Can print one time, next time locks up on spooling to printer... 8.1 64 bit, M476dw

Bought a M476DW about a month ago. Hooked it up to the network and installed the drivers on several machines and everything worked fine. Then last week had to re-install 4 of the laptops - just did a reset and reinstalled...
    Windows 8.1 64 bit,
with a local install of Office 2013 64 bit and all updates.
This was a clean install on all the laptops (Surface Pro 3's) most connected via dock.
Installed the full-driver package from the website.
All machines are set to private network with no firewall. No antivirus running except for WIndows Defender.
After this install we had a new problem we did not have before. After you print the first document, the next time you print it locks up and says "spooling to printer".  No other application can print on the computer after the first document. The only fix is to reboot.
    Fixs attempted:
Uninstalled and reinstalled (on all the computers)
Installed the newest firmware - M476_Color_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20150112
    disabled the notification software
    disabled firewall
    installed new network cable
    set ip to static
ran HP Print and Scan Doctor - Just says there is a problem (print queue), says reboot machine, then doesn't see a problem.

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum community.  I see that you're unable to install one of your HP 900 Inkjet Printers on an 8.1 machine.  I would like to assist.  I have some suggestions that might help.  There is another way you can install the printer.  Typically when users want to use their older printers with newer systems that don't have supported drivers I tend to advise they try alternate drivers.  Thus, I recommend you try the following steps, using the Deskjet 9800 driver instead:  Disconnect the printer's usb connection from the PC. Press the Windows Key + r.  Type in Control Panel and press Enter.  Next, click on Devices and Printers. Click 'Add a printer'. The 'Add Printer' window should open. Click on 'Add a local printer'.Click 'Use an existing port'.Click the 'Use an existing port' drop-down list; select LPT1: (Printer Port), and click 'Next'.Click the Windows Update button and wait for the updates to complete. In the Install the printer driver window, under Manufacturer click HP, and then search for the Deskjet 9800 driver under Printers . Once you find the desired driver,  restore the printer's usb-to-PC connection. The Installing Device Driver Software window should briefly display in the bottom right corner of the computer screen.  This is normal - wait for it to disappear.Click the Cancel button on the Add Printer window. Rejoice! Your printer's installed? Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

  • Problem connecting desktop manager with torch 9800

I have a lot of difficulties with my BB Torch 9800, since I forgot my password (for desktop manager).
Can't connect neither BB Protect to save data nor browse with Google search.
Could somebody help me solve this?
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
You've got a lot of inter-related and separate issues all mixed up in there. Can you perhaps separate them and provide adequate details of each so that we can perhaps understand and help you?
For example, the Desktop Software password is the exact same one that you use to unlock your BB after you either have caused it to password lock or enough time has passed that it has auto-locked. But that password is totally irrelevant to everything else you've mentioned...and you really need to figure that one out first, as without it, you cannot even use your BB for the other things at all.

But whatever I do, I cannot get it to not lock-up. It constantly fails memtesr etc and other cpu and memory stability programs. I  know the ram is good for a lot more, but I dont know what the problem is as ive seen other people using the same ram with no problems. Does anyone have any ideas's?

    Hi,
Do you have the D.O.T. enabled? I was have the same problem with the 9600 XT Radeon card and SATA RAID. I disabled it and my systems run great!

  • TORCH 9800 " How to stop the DATA Wiping due to Problems with Password Input "

    PHONE  TYPE:
    Torch 9800 (1256)
    PROBLEM:
On Friday, April 5th ... after several attempts of inputting my screen password I was constantly told by the 9800  that the wrong password was being attempted; which I know I did input the right PW . [ I believe that one key pertaining to the PW string is faulty and therefore not accepting the right character ] . When I had suffered prior password issues after several attempts the 9800 indicated on the screen that I would be locked out for 15 minutes until I could attempt again. This time after attempting what I believe was 9 times I suffered a  "OMG"  (Oh My God) situation where-in I believe the screen indicated to me that information would be erased; at that point I saw a progressive bar appear on the screen with the word "WIPING"  and I immediately opened the back of the phone and removed the battery to stop the wipe at 40%.
One hour+ later I inserted the battery back into the 9800 and once again the data wipe bar appeared on the screen and I pulled the battery to halt the wipe at 20%.
I went to the Blackberry Official web site and sought out any solutions to stopping the data wipe in the Torch 9800 manuals and other service areas and there was no mention of the data wipe. I sought out other web sites for solutions and there was none... I also referenced   a number of Black Berry forums and found that there where mentions of the same issue I was experiencing BUT no solutions.
I then pulled my sim card and inserted it into another Torch 9800  I maintain as a backup and when I went to my Mac Book Pro to connect the alternate 9800  and transfer data to it from the Blackbery desktop manager I was told their was a system failure. I attempted several times to in the dialogue box to copy data and settings from another device and again a system failure appeared. I again went to BB Torch Forums and found out that there have been a number of issues with Apple Macs and back up and transfers of data to Torch 9800 .
On Saturday I contacted Telstra Mobile Technical support and was connected to a Black Berry technical solution specialist who after referring to their BB manual and speaking to colleagues informed me that they saw NO work around solution.
I am therefore appealing to Blackberry wisemen & women to inform me if there is a solution to either obtain my backup data from my Mac and or to halt the Torch 9800 from wiping out my data if I have been able to pull the battery from the device. I have been user of Blackberry devices from the pagers of 1999 and have owned and operated over 14 BBs since along with my wife who is now on her first.
I am looking forward to your reply.

    Hi canadagoose
    Welcome to BlackBerry Support Forums
Sorry to hear that you're experincing such issues !

When I had suffered prior password issues after several attempts the 9800 indicated on the screen that I would be locked out for 15 minutes until I could attempt again.
But this situation happens when you enter wrong password for your BlackBerry ID , but not with device password that a user set in his device :
    KB24157 : BlackBerry ID lockout behaviour .
As you're an old user as you mentioned in your post , I think you will agree that BlackBerry are the most secure devices available , if we enter wrong password to many times ( By default 10 times ) then it will initiate a wipe process , which you cannot stop my any mean.
Sorry to say but there is no way or any workaround available to stop a device wipe after it is initiated .
Reading your backup issue , have you ever done a full backup or a custom backup which atleast include your address book ! If you have it then after a wipe you can restore it from those backup files.

  • Disable Home Screen Lock

How do I Disable the home screen lock on my Touch 9800? In the Security settings > Password the lock icon is Enabled and can not be disabled! The only options are lock after 1, 2, 5, or 10 minutes. Is there a way to disable the lock feature?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If you are on BES, it may be forced by your BES Admins...you'd need to talk to them to see about changing it.
If you have activated Encryption/Content Protection, then the password is required to support that. You'd have to disable that in order to be allowed to also disable the password.
Good luck and let us know!
