Is my airport broken? My wireless has stopped all of a sudden! No solution works!

hi, I need help please. After working fine for years my wireless connection on my desktop which is on snow leoperd 10.6.8 has stopped connecting all of a sudden. It works fine on my macbook pro and my iphone. When I turn it on I get none of your preffered networks available, I find my network and when I type in the password for my network I get connection timeout. In diagnostics I have.....
Airport failed
Airport settings failed
Network setting failed
It has connected a couple of times randomly but goes off when I try to load a page,
I have tried loads of solutions from forums like....
deleting networks and creating a new one
changing channels and even tried deleting the system preference files from the library but still no joy.
I just want to ask for any other solutions before I have to take it 50 miles to the nearest 'genius centre' to get it looked at.
Could my airport be broken?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Also try this - Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
 Cheers, Tom

  • My itunes has stopped responding how can I get it working again

My itunes has stopped responding how can I get it working again?

I have a related issue (I think, hard to know for sure from the short frustrated post above).
Since the last update of iTunes (11.0.5), it kind of freezes while checking for and downloading new podcasts. Processor load goes to 100% (sometimes above! figure from Swedish OSX "Aktivitetskontroll" which I can imagine is something like "Activity Control" or "Activity Manager" in English OSX) and stays there for a few minutes, 3-5 minutes is common. During that time the mouse pointer turns into a spinning ball when moved above iTunes. Other apps work ok meanwhile. (Four processors)
Have a fixed connection to the internet, which I have tested while iTunes is frozen. We acheive above 100 Mbit/s downstream, 20 Mbit/s upstream, so the connection shouldn't be the problem.
Any ideas on what to do?

We still couldn't get it to stop timing out. I tried to download the firmware from iClarified but iTunes said it didn't recognise the software.
Just what did yo do to gt iTunes to see the download:

Just purchased a new mac mini 3GHz Intel Core i7, with 16GB ram version 10.10.1. With it i purchased a new wireless keyboard. All of a sudden I was not able to use the #1 key. I thought I had a defected newly purchased keyboard. I pulled out my older wireless keyboard, and the same thing happened. It must not be the keyboard if it happened to two different keyboards. I have a habit of restarting my computer, when things don't work, I find it helps, and sure enough, everything works. Today, it happened again. Does anyone know what is causing this to happen?

  • By creating wireless network with Airport Express, original wireless network stops functioning

I want to use the Airport Express to create a second wireless network downstairs. Upstairs I already have a wireless modem/router (Draytek 2850). The signal downstairs however is to weak. When I create the wireless network on the Airport Express, this works perfectly. However after the creation, the wireless part of the Draytek modem/router stops functioning. The wired part keeps working, but when I connect to the wireless part I access anything. Why is that?
The Express is set to Bridge modus and under TCP/IP I've selected that the IPV4 configurations has to go via DHCP.

I set the Network Name the same as the SSID, security type on the router is Mixed(WPA/WPA2)/PSK, which on the AX is WPA/WPA2 - personal I guess. The password is the same as the DrayTek.
Yes, WPA/WPA2 Personal on the AX is the same as the Draytek's wireless security option.
The radio channel of the Draytek router is 6, the channel of the AX is 11. Do I miss anything here?
No, it looks like you have all of the right settings as far as I can tell ... and you already stated that the AX is in bridge mode, i.e., Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode) ... correct?
If so, I would recommend performing a complete power recycle of your networking components, as follows:
Power-down the DrayTek, and AX. Order is not critical.
Power-up the DrayTek; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it to stablize.
Before powering-up the AX, verify that you can gain Internet access via a wireless connection to the DrayTek. If so, continue.
Power-up (plug-in) the AX; wait at least 5-10 minutes to allow it to stablize. It should have a steady green status light. If not, use the AirPort Utility to determine the reasons why it doesn't from the Status page of the Utility.

  • Actiontec wireless has stopped working

The wireless on our Actiontec router has stopped working. "Radio enabled" is shown as NO. Enabling it works, but as soon as we reset security, it turns itself off.
We've had a number of power outages, with the result that our router has gotten increasingly flakey, especially the wireless. I called tech support and he suggested doing a hard reset, which seemed to have fixed everything. However, following the mose recent power outage (yes, we get a lot of them), the hard reset procedure is no longer fixing the problem.
    Any suggestions?

I lost my Wireless connection on Tuesday (2/28) around 10:30am. Ethernet connection is working fine. I called tech support and after about an hour of him working on my system he came to the conclusion that the router needed replaced. I received my new router Thursday afternoon (3/1) Installed the router per the instructions. Still no wireless connection. Ethernet is working fine but no wireless on my 2 laptops or my IPad. I called tech support again this afternoon 3/2 and after about 45 minutes of the tech taking over my computer he comes to the conclusion that the router need replaced. So Router number 3 is on the way. I will update the forum once the new router arrives.

  • Wireless has stopped working on my Apple TV. What can I do with it?

All of a sudden my 20 month old Apple Tv stopped working with Wireless. Doesn't see the network at all. Tried restting but no luck.
I can either try and convince Apple to replace this (unlikley even with the UK's consumer protection legislation) or come up with another way to use this.
So I wondered if I connect the Apple TV via Ethernet and connect it to my Hi-Fi, could I use a remote control app on an IOS device to play iTunes files etc? I don't have a ethernet outlet near to the TV but there's one close to the Hi-Fi. To be honest the Apple TV is not used that much and I think I might get more use out of it setup as an audio streaming device. I could buy a pair of ethernet mains devices, but seems a waste to conenct a device that's not used that much.

I knew that, my question was more about the viability of using the ATV without having a TV connected and contolling it directly from an iPad to stream music.

  • Airport Extreme Airdisk's REALLY SLOW all of a sudden

I have my media hard drive connected via USB to my Airport Extreme. It serves all the media for my iTunes libraries etc. It's been working flawlessly for months, but now all of a sudden, it's cripplingly slow.
I've been trying to transfer one 800mb video file all night and it keeps saying "21 hours" and only transfers a few kb every minute or two.
I've restarted my Airport Extreme, disconnected and reconnected the USB HD and restarted the ADSL modem the AE connects to the internet through. I've also tried a variety of different files.
    No difference.
Any thoughts? I know I could completely reset my AE, but if a restart won't fix it, then I doubt a reset will.

chirhodesign, any update on the situation?
i'm helping my friend overseas with this exact same problem. she just bought a new hdd and as a shared network drive via airport extreme it's EXTREMELY SLOW, maybe around 100kbps transfer rate. we're pulling our hair out trying to troubleshoot this.
does anybody have a possible solution?

  • My airport card in imac has stopped working. can i add a wireless dongle to achieve wireless access?

  • Wireless has stopped working on my old G3

I've had my ibook, with the same airport card, for 5 years. For the past couple months my wireless signal has been dropping out. I know it isn't the airport express I use b/c my imac has no problem with the wireless signal. I kind of figured that the antenna was being pinched in the hinge, as when I moved the screen back and forth I would get my signal back. This worked pretty well, as long as I held the screen at a certain angle.
Tonight it has dropped out altogether. It just died. I checked my system profile and my ibook is recognizing the airport card, but I don't get a signal at all, no matter how much I open/close/reboot etc.
So I am wondering what my options are. Of course my applecare is long gone. I already sunk $200 into this ibook almost exactly a year ago for a new harddrive, and I figured I would try to use it as long as I could. How much is it to get the antenna problem fixed? Does it make sense to try to do that, or to somehow find money for maybe a macbook (totally out of my budget right now). I just need the ibook for wireless internet/email so spending $1000 to get something new for that seems silly when this computer is still basically working great (other than the wireless).

Jon Spaulding of Small Dog Electronics writes about fixing the AirPort antenna here:
    http://www.smalldog.com/newsarchive/techtails_display.php?id=218
The only way to tell for certain how much it would cost is to call and ask.

  • Wireless has stopped working on 6-month-old G770

I have a G770 running Windows 7 Home Premium that is about 6 months old. About a month ago, the wireless network access cut out suddenly. I can still connect to the network with an Ethernet cable, but I have no wireless access. When I remove the Ethernet cable, the wireless network icon is displayed with a red X through it, and I receive the error "Not Connected - No Connections are Available."
The wireless/Bluetooth switch on the front of the machine is set to "on," and the wireless network card is turned on in the Wireless Device Settings.
I have tried updating the drivers for the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter, but I am told my drivers are up-to-date.
I've also disabled and then re-enabled the Atheros AR9285, and uninstalled and re-installed the drivers, but I still have no wireless access.
Do I need to purchase a new wireless network adapter? If so, where can I do so? I've read that the BIOS settings won't allow me to install a non-Lenovo wireless network adapter, but I don't have the option of purchasing an Atheros AR9285 on the Lenovo site.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Gin,
Yeh, it's starting to sound like a hardware problem.  There were a few threads around here that said that the antenna connectors were loose.  You could check that. You could make sure that the screw is holding the card in place.  Maybe clean the card contacts with a pencil eraser.
You still have warranty left, right?
If you want to take the cover off and look at it, here's your Hardware Maintenance Manual .  Page 41 shows the card.

  • Can I use airport as a wireless router for all of my other devices?

I do not have any other Internet connection in my home and want to know if I can use this device as a wireless hotspot?

The AirPort base stations can provide a wireless network to these devices but it will not have Internet connectivity unless you already have Interent service provided by an ISP. The AirPort will require an Ethernet connection to an Internet modem for that purpose.

  • My IPhone 5s has stopped sending e-mails suddenly.

Yesterday afternoon my iPhone stopped sending my e-mails via aol. I can receive but not send. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the e-mail account, I have reviewed the sending server as suggested by some other support pages. I am at a lost as to why and need some help, this is also affecting my iPad. Thanks in advance

Check first whether the you can send emails using web (Either on Safari App or try it on a computer)
If it doesn't work in webmail ,there might be an issue with the email account.
If its working , you can try adding the account to outlook on your computer and then sync the Email settings thru iTunes.
If its a windows computer which you are using you'll get Info tab in your device page.
Click on Info and then select Sync Mail and then Apply.

  • I have an Airport Extreme as my wifi hub and an Airport Express to beam music. All of a sudden the Express stopped working and I get the error message "this version of Airport Utility does not support this base station".  All my software is up to date and

I have a WiFi system in the house that uses the Airport Extreme for a hub and an older Express for sending music from my Mac to my sound system. Everything worked great till yesterday. When I go to Networks I see the Extreme and I see the Express but the Express is no longer connected and I get an error message "this version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station".  Any ideas?

This sounds as if you have an older AirPort Express that is no longer supported by the newer Mavericks operating system.
To check and see if  that might be the case, locate the model number on the side of the AirPort Express. It will start with an "A" followed by four numbers. Hard to see in the faint print.....so you may need reading glasses or a magnifying class to see the model number clearly.
Model numbers A1084 and A1088 of the AirPort Express are no longer supported by AirPort Utility in Mavericks.
You will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC to be able to administer the older AirPort Express.
