Why cannot I not download app updates with my apple id password? It errors out and says it deosnt maycg iTunes password?

They should be the same - assuming that you used the same ID to buy the apps that you are using to update the apps - you should be able to update them. You use the same Apple ID and iTunes account for iTunes media purchases and for app store Purchases. If for some reason the password isn't working try this.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID. Make sure that the ID is correct on the iPad. If the ID is correct but it is not being recognized - sign out of the account, restart the iPad and then sign in again
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Then go to Settings>Store>and sign into your account again and see if you can download now.

icloud just keeps bringing up my old email address & asking for my old password which doesn't exist anymore and when I try to sign out of icloud it wants my old password, when I tried to change my primary email back to the old one it wants me to verify it through an email address that doesn't exist. Please can you help me sort out this nightmare.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.

Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.

I have the exact same issue. I also tried resetting my password. I can log in to iTunes on my laptop with the new password, on to my iPhone iTunes, but my Apple TV says it cannot recognize my password. I just did an Apple Tv software update a few days ago.
I am able to log in to Netflix on my Apple TV just fine. I did not have to re-enter my password for that.
Very frustrating. I hope Apple can figure this out soon and post a fix.

Delete everything bought with the old Apple ID and buy it again.
Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store..
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store. See if that made a difference.

- Apps are prementently tied to the account that purchased them and you have to sign into that account to update the apps. If you have apps that need updating from more than one account you need to update them one at a time util the remainig apps were purchased from one account.

Your friend will have to remember or find his account id and password, without them he won't be able to re-activate the iPad.
Does he have any of the account's downloads in his computer's iTunes library : Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name.
Or has he tried finding it via http://appleid.apple.com : Apple ID: How to find your Apple ID.
If he can find the account id he can then get its password reset via http://iforgot.apple.com
(As these are user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple, I've asked the hosts to remove the serial number from your post.)

Turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud on the iDevice.
Log out of iMessage, Facetime, remove Apple ID from iTunes & App Store.
Use Settings > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Then set it up as a new iPhone with your own Apple ID.

I have a 3gs with 16Gb so its not a cheap phone. I have 10Gb free. I have 6600 photoes. This is very frustrating and undermines my confidence in your products. My ipod is an ipod 4 with 16Gb also. It does the exact same thing to it. The last time, I had to import photoes a few at the time and with it taking 10-15 minutes each time for 6600 photos it is a long frustrating process. But it will import every photo a few at a time. The error message is just that itunes has stopped working. no hint as to why. AND of course, my phone is out of use for the entire time. You guys must not want to believe ur phones are a necessary tool...or maybe you dont want the consumer to believe it is. I have tried to find solutions on your website as well as through other 3rd party communities. Ultimately they were of no use. I stumbled onto my solution by accident since Im a bit of a computer geek...a semi-geek.

basically whenever I try to sync my ipod touch 4G 64GB it crashes iTunes when it begins the pictures. if im lucky ill get 4-5 on there before it stops responding. its not my system or anything im running win7x64 8GB DDR3 ram (Corsair XMS3) AMD FX Eight core processor.

I downloaded GarageBand to Ipad2 for $4.99 and worked fine. When I updated Ipad2 to Iso5 it automatically took Garageband off my iPad2 and downloaded it to my Iphone4. So I removed it from iPhone4 and when I go to download again at app store onto my IPad
