Is my apple TV busted

For no reason what so ever my Apple TV seems to have gone tits up.
If I restart it, it loads up with the funky graphics and music, then a I briefly see the Apple logo again, then the appleTV menu, then back to the apple logo then back to the menu, its doing this constantly.
What can I do?

Have you tried to get the tv to go into diagnostic mode and see if that helps at all? You can do a factory reset from there, which will erase everything on it and return it to its original out-of-the-box settings.
See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305190 for specific instructions on how to do this.
If it won't go into diagnostic mode at all, or restoring it to factory settings doesn't help, then you might need to send/take it in for service.

  • Iphoto file structure

I hate the date file structure for iphoto. If I move to a programme which isn't iphoto, I cannot navigate through the date structure to find certain photos.
Why is it when I name a photo in iphoto, the name does not show in the file structure. Is there any way around this or am I stuck with using iphoto for ever. Could be a probleem if Apple went bust
    TIA Anteric

    Hi anthony,
The iPhoto 6 files organization is now by Years/rolls
iPhoto 6 Library folder in the Finder
As you can see the structure is now related to rolls. Rolls are created for each folder you import and each import session from a camera.
It is very easy to change the names of film rolls within iPhoto to make them easier to find images within. Open the info panel in iPhoto by clicking on the "i" icon. Once it is opened, click on the roll title in the viewing window.
Click on the word "title" in the info pane and type in your new title. I like to use a date and text format such as 12/25/05 Christmas at Mom's, 1/05/06 my birthday, etc. Once the roll names are changed within iPhoto, they are also changed within the Finder, making it easy to locate an image.
When importing from a camera, make sure you name the roll with a date and text before the import.
The title you give a photo in iPhoto stays within iPhoto. the image file name remains the same in the Finder.
If you want to rename images, it should be done before importing into iPhoto.
download using your camera software or Image Capture, rename the photos, then import into iPhoto.
If you need to access photos from an album it is very difficult for a third party application to navigate the iPhoto Library in order to find the photo you need. You will have to know the date of import(iPhoto 5), or roll name (iPhoto 6) in order to find the photo.
There are some third party applications that can read the xml file and can navigate the iPhoto library and show you the Albums. Hopefully more applications will be revised to read this file.
Until then you will have to Share/Export the photos to the desktop. You can then navigate to the desktop to use the photos (example: web uploading from online photo site)
If your application supports drag and drop, you can drag the photo from an open iPhoto Library window into your application.
For email you can also use the email icon within iPhoto to open a message with the highlighted photo attached.
You can also use spotlight to find images in an Album...
This is what I have done using Spotlight to find my images that are in iPhoto albums without opening iPhoto..
In iPhoto, select the album, then select all, go to Photos/batch change.
Change the comments to text. In the text field I put the name of the Album.
    Do this for each album.
    Close iPhoto.
Open Spotlight and put in the name of the Album ( you have to remember the names of the albums or have then written down)
In the spotlight search results. click on "show all"
Under "Images" click on the "xx more" to show all the images in the album.
Make sure you have it in icon view, the icon view box is the last one on the blue images line.
Now you can control click on the image to "reveal in finder", open in iPhoto or Mail, etc.
I am not sure if this is going to make you happy and it is a little more work, but you can find images in albums and even view them in a slideshow (by clicking the play arrow at the end of the Images highlighted blue line) using Spotlight, all without opening iPhoto.
One important thing to know is you can set up a graphic program to be an external editor (when you double click an image in the library} such as PhotoShop or PS Elements. You set up that within iPhoto Preferences. Just make sure you save the image flattened and with the same name. The edits will then be relected in iPhoto when you hit "save".
I have just found this useful piece of info at Macoshints.com
"Since Apple developed its "digital hub", with iLife and now iWork, I have wanted to have a system-wide panel that would let me choose pictures from my iPhoto library without having to open the application.
For example, if I want to add a picture to a TextEdit RTFD document, I had to launch iPhoto, chose the picture, and drag it to the document. Waiting for iPhoto to launch can be long if you have a lot of photos.
But there is a way to get around this, using an Automator action.
    1. Open Automator, and click iPhoto.
    2. From the list of actions, select Ask for Photos, and drag it to the right-hand pane.
    3. Save this as a plug-in, and select Script Menu (the script menu that displays in the menu bar) so it is accessible anywhere. (If this menu is not visible, launch the AppleScript Utility in /Applications/Applescript, and check 'Show Script Menu in menu bar.')
Next time you need a picture from your iPhoto library, select this action from the AppleScript menu, and you'll have a media browser that lets you do so without opening iPhoto. "

  • Unable to boot into setup/safe/recovery mode....please help

    Hi,
About to bin this imac I have (trying to fix this for someone at my work place) as I'm seriously wasting time....
Usual issue: Users do not know any of the passwords for the accounts on this machine.
    Machine: iMac (circa 2010/2011)
    OS: 10.5.8
    Build: 9L31a
    S/N: YM8300VLZE4
    What I have tried:
Switching on, holding shift key   (nothing happens - just loads to normal login screen)
Switching on, holding cmd+s (nothing happens - just loads to normal login screen)
Switching on, holding alt/option key (nothing happens - just loads to normal login screen
I have tried the above with holding the keys down when switched on, as soon as the chime starts, with releasing the keys when I see the apple logo, releasing the keys when I see apple logo then spinny thing.....
Same thing happesn - NOTHING.....Just goes straight to the usual login screen......
I don't have a CD on me and I'm mega frustrated

Cancel the above.....Apple keyboard bust - the cmd keys not working.....I suspect this is the frustration of many thousands of users too...
Just clag in a standard windows keyboard and hold down windows key +s to get to single user mode.....

  • I'm a happy iPhone 4 user

Just wanted to post a non-doom and gloom topic on the iPhone. I'm loving it so far. No issues with battery life, weird yellow tint on the screen or bad reception. However, I can replicate the problem with holding my hand on the lower left side of the phone, making the antenna disappear. But i haven't been having trouble with calls (i've had several very long phone calls on it so far) or data. I do believe this is an issue Apple should bust their *** to fix though, and I'm disappointed in Steve Jobs' response to that issue. It cements his status as a total douche in my mind. But anyhow, I hope those of you that have problems get them corrected.

Make that 3 in a million because I have also experienced no problems. Well, some set-up issues at first but that's typical of any new device I think. No screen issues, no reception issues (unless I intentionally try to wreck the reception by placing a house key over the antenna, which is a neat experiment but totally unnecessary if you are able to make calls by holding it like you would any other phone, what's the point?). I have made calls and everything is working great. I have a bumper on the way and an invisible shield full body protection from Zagg. Can't wait for those two things because right now I am holding like its the holy grail and if I drop it my life will end. Which it probably will because I would not be able to live with a cracked iPhone...but I digress.

  • IPhoto title bar lameness

So, I checked my system prefs and made sure that the "Minimize when double clicking a window title bar" checkbox was turned on in the Appearance Panel. It is. But, iPhoto, in all it's iLife 08 glory, refuses to minimize when clicking the title bar. How can Apple be so lame sometimes? I mean, it's a standard UI feature and their own app doesn't behave? Come on. Seriously. I am about to bust a testicle over this.

That "fixed" it. Going into the system prefs, unchecking the box, then rechecking it fixed it.
When I got this new iMac, I did a firewire transfer from an existing account on my older iMac. This probably has something to do with it not working initially, and resetting the preference fixed it. If so, that's a pretty obscure bug, and I'll spare Apple the busted testicle over something so trivial

  • Lost Ability to Play Video

My Ipad video stopped working. Don't know of any "incident." One day it worked; the next day it didn't.

There is a whole load of trouble with iOS 8.1.1 and DRM playback that us developers have experienced. Something got broken in iOS 8.1.1 which we cannot fully understand and is (in all likelihood) the problem you are experiencing.
Yes, Apple should fix it, and I agree that it is annoying, but it is still a whole load better than the mess that is the MS world, and even if Apple went bust today, I would not be jumping ship over DRM issues.

  • Carrier IQ is NOT your friend!!

None of your passwords are secure using an Android phone. Here is the proof. Verizon and anyone else offering the Android OS needs to allow us to opt in or out of this service. I, for one, do NOT want them storing every single key press on my phone. There is no reason for it. Watch this video and cringe at the flagrant disregard for our privacy.
    http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/11/secret-software-logging-video
Verizon needs to step up and eliminate this issue.

I would say were all pretty screwed with this, thus far I have seen Verizon officially deny that they are using it on any of their phones, however several carrier domains have been unearthed such as vzw-collector.demo.carrieriq.com and hupload-vzw99.carrieriq.com. I would say its a matter of sticking to the usual plan of total denial until getting nailed read handed and hope that the majority of the damaged has already been adsorbed by someone else. Just as we saw happen a few months back with Apple getting busted... Two weeks later no one even noticed everyone else admitting to doing it.
Once again here we are... 1984 has repeatedly made Orson Wells look like a futuristic genius.
It will not take long for someone to root out what, when and where with VW phones... Guys like Trevor Eckhart find these things almost out of boredom and I am thankful that they do. The sad part is how many more CIQ's are there out there? How many other apps will just follow behind what they have been doing?
Personal information collection is HUGE business... Don't depend on our government to stop it, protect from it or even curb it. They LOVE it, encourage it and reap the benefits of it daily... for your won protection of course!
Every privacy, wire tapping, etc law that was just violated will be ignored... Nothing to see here folks, move along, don't worry about it...

  • So is it just me, or is Mavericks a bust?  My MBP runs way hotter now. I don't have time for trial and error solutions. Is Apple offering a way to downgrade back to Mountain lion? I want out of Mavericks ASAP.

So is it just me, or is Mavericks a bust?  My MBP runs much hotter since the upgrade. Why do I need ot sit around watching Activity Monitor, manually controlling my fans, and deleting extensions that I enjoy using. Don't even get me started on the Quicktime/Mov issues. I had none of these issues on Mountian Lion. Searching these forums, I see it's not just me. Why would Apple release a new system w/o peoperly testing it on MBPs?
I don't have time for trial and error solutions. I've tried the obvious ones. No help. Is Apple offering a way to downgrade back to Mountain lion?  Or better yet, a Mavericks update that adresses these problems? As of now, I want out of Mavericks ASAP.

Nobody owns a ML install disc - ML was only ever distributed as a download from the Mac App Store.
If you have a Time Machine backup, you can boot into recovery mode and restore from your Moutain Lion TM backup volume.  If you have a system clone, then you can boot from the clone, and just clone ML back onto your internal drive.
Going back to your previous installation from a backup should be trivially simply if you have the backup in hand.

  • HT202157 I brought a new apple TV after it was going thru its update, it lost power?  I tried the reboot with the down arrow and menu button, but no love. Is this unit busted?

I brought a new apple tv.  I tried to update it. When it finished, it lost power.  I tried to reset it with the down arrow key and the menu button, but no love. Does this mean that i should take it back to the store?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Update 7.1 busted my Apple Extreme

I have 2 apple extreme. The first one used as the main router, the second one used to extend the network to my third floor. I did the 7.1 update on both. They both are "sort of working", except that I cannot enter the configuratin of the main router any more. The "extended" one is fine. On the main one, if I try to do manual setup or use the wizard, the window stay on the "reading base station configuration screen" forever and I cannot get to the configuration screens.

I'm an experienced Mac user and I've not been happy with the 801.11n base station at all.
I purchased the base station about 10 days ago. Generally I've found it unreliable, unstable, and very hard to configure.
I've spent a total of around 2 hours on the phone with Apple support, only to abandon my original configuration (Extreme plus 1 Express) because the Apple Tech could not make it work even when I followed the provided documentation (he also told me my configuration, Airport Extreme in bridge mode plus Home Router, wasn't supported).
My base station seems even more quirky after this update. I had to remove all security and make my wireless network "closed" just to get clients to be able to see it.
I thought this was supposed to be simple to set-up and use. So far, it's been anything but...

  • Apple iMac overheating or busted?

I have a 2.8GHZ C2D iMac from Mid 2008. I have been running Windows 7 via bootcamp fairly extensively. This morning I was on my bootcamp partition and the screen suddenly turned completely white. The computer was completely unresponsive, so I turned it off. A minute or two later, I turned it back on. It powered on fine, the start up chime sounded, but then it immediately and repeatedly sounded until I turned the computer off. I was worried, so I powered it down and unplugged it. At this point, I had to leave for work.
At first, I thought I had fried the graphics card. Now I think it just overheated. I used the computer a ton yesterday (almost all day), but it was off overnight and only on for an hour or so before it did this.
    Any thoughts?

Pax, have you find out how to fix it yet? I have the EXACT same problem. I run windows 7 extensively and the computer get very hot. The first sign would be the IMAC starts to lag. I tried to restart but when the white screen comes back on it's stay there for about 5 mins+, then there's a folder with ? mark starting to flash.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

  • How can i enter network info on apple tv without remote

    HELP!
I was trying to change my dns number to get American netflix in Canada. I thought I had done everything right, was heading back to check out that it was working and accidently pressed enter too many times.  I told my apple tv to forget my network.  I know that all I need to get back on my network is the password, but small problem, my apple tv remote is busted.  Is there anyway to get back on without it?  I tried via the remote app on my phone, but it says my apple tv isn't connected to the network.  I know buying a nrew remote is the easy soltuion, but I would love to fix this before my darling husband wakes up, oy!
    Thanks,

As far as I know, there is no way to input your wi-fi password without an Apple remote. You have several options:
If you have an iMac or MacBook and you have the remote for either of those devices, they will also work on your Apple TV.
Connect your AppleTV to your router with an ethernet cable.
Log in to your router and change wi-fi security to "none." (This is the least desirable option; it can often be done by entering one of these two URLs in your web browser: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.2.1. Also, it will probably ask for a user name and password which you'll need to have to reconfigure the router).

  • I bought a brand new mac after Apple said I had ruined my MBP with water damage- but now it works fine?

I'm a little bit confused here. I bought the latest Macbook Pro before university late September 2011, and unfortunately had a little accident involving a leaky bottle of juice.
I dried it out as much as I could, and took it to my nearest Apple store two days later, where, to my dismay the guys at the Genius bar said it was broken beyond a reasonably priced repair. I was faced with an estimated £800+ bill, or the option to buy a new one.
As I was going back to Uni for my last term, I needed a computer of some kind and hastily bought the new one. Instead of having it repaired, I stretched an extra £100 on the repair bill and bought the Macbook Air.
The guy who served me thought it was a good idea for me to buy a new one (obviously) and kept reminding me that even if I do get it repaired, the 'corrosion' could spread and it might need repairing again.
The problem throughout all of this is after spending ANOTHER £1000 only a few months after buying the first macbook, I am typing on the so called 'water damaged' macbook right now.
They told me it was completely busted, but apart from cosmetic water marks on the screen I am failing to see what's wrong with it.
Have I been ripped off? Can I sell the water damaged MBP?
I hope someone can help me!
    Alexandra

As far as selling it, I don't know what you would get for it.  I know in my opinion if I was going to buy it and it worked, if it didn't look really bad, I MIGHT buy it, but that would really mean taking a look at it and seeing what is in store and what kind of condition it is in at the moment.  The thing with liquid, it does weird stuff when mixed with electronics.  I once had a portable gaming system that I spilled some pop on.  It didn't work right away because everything was still wet and liquid and electronics don't mix well.  However, after letting it dry off, it worked great.  Only problem I had with it at that point were the buttons started to stick.  And when they stuck, they would cause me to screw up my games sometimes becuase when I would go to push the buttons, they wouldn't go down right away and would be delayed and with games, that is the problem.  When you needed the button pressed now it wouldn't go right away.  This is not necessarily a problem with the computer say if you were typing or anything, but the point being, it may not show serious signs right now, but that doesn't mean that later it isn't going to.  However, as stated above, you might be able to get something for it as there are other parts worth value.  Maybe not the full computer, but pieces to part out if someone else were to find one that needed parts because there were parts of theirs that went bad and needed replaced.  I think if you were to fully disclose what happened and let them know that there could be something still going on with it that may cause a problem down the line, you might find someone who wants to try out a mac before making that purchase of $1000 to buy a new one.  I would try to sell it, worst thing that happens is you don't sell it because nobody wants it, but if that is the case you are no different then you are now.
