Is my Audigy card broken?

Hi everyone,
I have had an Audigy sound card since January 200 and it's served me well and trouble free ever since...until today.
I was playing a game this morning (Icewind Dale) when my computer froze, a very rare occurence. When I restarted I discovered that some sound coming from my computer was simply noise, static white noise, with occasional "bleeps and bloops". I thought at first maybe the Audigy software/ driver had been corrupted so I reinstalled the drivers from the CD. Same problem. So I went more drastic and reinstalled my entire PC operating system, twice. Still the same!
However, audio CDs play perfectly normally on my computer. If I "rip" a song from a CD onto my PC and play it though, it's just white noise/ bleeps again.
So I'm confused. Is the problem with the soundcard? I'd be happy to keep it as is, but it's served me well for nearly 0 years and I wouldn't have? a problem with getting a newer Audigy card to replace it.
But- is there a chance that the problem lies outside the soundcard? There's no point in getting a new Audigy if there's maybe? a problem elsewhere. Is it possible the motherboard has developed a fault? I have absolutely no other problems with my PC except for the corrupted sound.
I have run Creative Diagnostics and all tests have passed.
If anyone can offer any help/ solutions I'd appreciate it

I have something quite similar with mine, well, even more frightening than beakid's screenshots actually.
So I ran the Apple Hardware Test and I got the following error code:
2NVD/3/4: 2103
...sounds like my video card is in trouble...
but anyone knows what that means exactly? is it actualli broken or is there just something wrong with its memory?

Unfortunately my iMac's serial number doesn't belong to said range, and Apple doesn't even seem to have ever heard of it. So I can't even use the chat-with-a-support-agent-and-get-an-answer-at-once thing.

    I've a Soun Blaster Audigy card (Model: SB0090)
    I tried to install the Audigy software and drivers from the original product CD but Setup was unable to find Augigy hardware and halted the installation!
    "Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster card on your system. Please ensure that your Sound Blaster hardware is properly installed before running this Setup program"
    By the way. Manually the sound drivers can be installed working only front speakers of the 5. Creative system
    I tried a clean installation of Windows XP and Windows 2000 PRO (reformatted the hard dri've) but Audigy install CD still could not find Audigy hardware.
    I've changed the card to a different PCI slot with the same results!!! Damaged?
    What is happening? I need a solution!! Many users have this problem to with other Sound Blaster cards and models...

    Yes, indeed, that is my theory as well. After much ****hing and on-line research, it seems that this problem has been around since 2002. From Creative Labs point of view, it appears they view this as "pilot error" -- the user has installed the card in a system that is not fully compliant with the latest standards -- specifically Microsofts ACPI (configuration and power management). A wide variety of configurations and/or actions seem to cause the PCI subsystem ID in the Audigy EEPROM to be erroneously overwritten -- including certain older motherboards, certain older PCI cards, and perhaps other actions.
    Once the subsystem ID in the EEPROM is overwritten and has garbage information, many or all of the Creative applications cease working and various sound problems can arise. Attempts to reinstall the driver or update to the latest driver consistently fail becuase of the dreaded "Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy card in your system..." error message.
    There appear to be four fixes:
    ) Get a replacement Audigy card from Creative, but <EM>only</EM> after you perform their prescribed troubleshooting steps to prove that the card is indeed the source of the problem. Apparently, the steps include installing the card in another PC. Apparently, Creative in Europe is more willing to replace your card than Creative in the US. It's up to Creative Labs whether or not they issue you an RMA ("Return Material Authorization").
    However, this fix will fail if the root causes of the EEPROM error are not corrected. Apparently, Creative Tech Support isn't always a foolproof source of guidance, so the burden is on you. The root cause MUST be corrected before the new card is installed, or the same problem will happen all over again. Eliminating the root cause may involve replacing your motherboard, replacing other PCI cards, or manual configuration (disabling ACPI).
    2) Reprogramming the EEPROM. This is for advanced PC owners only, because it involves desoldering the EEPROM, programming it, and resoldering (and even lifting some pins to prevent reprogramming). There are instructions on how to do this posted in the German Creative Labs discussion board, by a Russian (!). I have links for those who are interested.
    3) Removing the Creative drivers and software (using Clean Sweep procedures and third party utilities), updating again using Windows XP SP2, then physically moving the card to different PCI slots (multiple times if necessary), until ACPI Bios writes the proper information into the EEPROM. You can then reload the drivers.
    Again, the root causes of the problem must be removed or your fix will only be temporary (a day or two). This solution also seems to be very dependent on the specifics of your system (motherboard, PCI cards, etc.).
    4) Some people have had success in by-passing the step in the driver installation process where they check for the Audigy card subsystem ID, using a utility called CTZAPxx on the installation CD. Then then manually install each of the applications they need to use.
    5) Use the open source driver from the kX Project (http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php). This driver (and associated utilities) does not depend on the detailed configuration of the card (i.e. they don't check subsystem ID) and appear to work fine even with cards with corrupted EEPROM.
    This driver is aimed primarily at computer music applications, and opens up the on-card signal processing capabilities. The downside is that the Audigy 2 ZS does not have all of it's capabilities supported <EM>yet </EM>(e.g. Dolby Digital decoding, S/PIF passthrough, possibly some game sound features, THX, 24-bit recording, support for Hyperthreading CPUs, etc.). But scanning over the discussion boards, the user community seems to be MUCH happier with the performance and support associated with these drivers than with Creative's.
    This is the direction I'm going. I'm not a big gamer and I don't really care about the latest in home theater audio performance. Basic 5. surround sound is all I care about, and I'm much more interested in computer music capabilities.
    I have also lost faith in Creative Labs as a vendor to provide the support I want and need going forward. Just imagine if the Creative Labs were running the Space Shuttle program :smileysurprised:.

  • Windows 7 does not like my Audigy Card at all

    Hey guys,
    Got too excited and went out and bought Windows 7 Ultimate x64 - fantastic. Problem is, I have no sound - my Asus Rampage Formula motherboard has no onboard sound as it comes with a seperate sound card which won't work and neither will the cheapy Audigy standard one I bought today to try...
    7 automatically installs some drivers when it detects I have a sound card installed and sticks it in the Device Manager under 'System Devices' and calls it a 'High Definition Audio Controller'
    Now I found the new Win 7 drivers on here and downloaded in the hope of installing and overwriting this 'Hi Def Audio Controller' but when i'm in setup I get the error message "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before running this Setup Program. Setup will exit" which is completely baffling me as Win7 can detect and install this 'audio controller' - when I hover over the volume icon in the taskbar (which incidentally has a red cross over it) it says 'No audio output is installed"
    I'm probably going wrong somewhere, but I don't know if its Win7 or these "Windows 7" drivers don't actually work?
    Please can anyone help?!!

    Yes I know that that is a standard driver from Creative. But try to download the driver. Then right click it, and extract it. You can extract it like this if you have WINRAR, WINACE, or WINZIP on your system. Even the free 7-zip will work great.
    Then go to device manager, and then to your unknown device, and then update driver, and then choose "have disk....." and browse to the folder where you unzipped the driver. Then install the driver, allowing it to copy the files over to your system. Reboot. Sound may still not be working at this point. Then try windows update or the Daniel K. pack again. Using this method may seem weird but I am trying to "trick" your system into picking up your Audigy.
    This worked for me before with my x-fi Titanim and my Extreme gamer when I switched to Vista 64.

    Did a clean reinstall of Win2k because I felt there had been too many hardware changes since the original installation. Evidently, while I was trying to get a XP 2600+ 333 recognized as a 2600+ (I learned in the BIOS forum that this wasn't possible) the onboard sound became enabled in BIOS.
    I did the reinstall without the sound card. I then attempted to add it, but of course I had a conflict between the Audigy card and the AC97 onboard. After I figured out that the onboard sound was enabled, I disabled it in BIOS. I went to safe mode and removed all hardware related to sound and all software related to Creative. I shut down again- removed the audigy card - restarted. Shut down again, inserted the audigy card in a different slot (also tried original slot). Windows doesn't recognize it. It does see a "multimedia audio controller" that I cannot find a driver for. If I cancel out of that driver installation and try to install the Creative software it advises that no sound blaster card is present.
    Should I start all over again? If I do, should I install win2k with the sound card installed?

    PS - system was working fine before I attempted the re-install but was sluggish which I felt was due to all the hardware changes (mobo, graphics card, sound card, hd) done at various times, not to mention the software installs and uninstalls.

    This is the advice I rcvd from Creative technical support. It worked. Sound card is properly and cleanly installed. I also disabled the onchip sound in BIOS advanced chipset in addition to disabling the onboard audio in BIOS Integrated peripherals.
    Again, this is for an audigy sound card and Win2k:
    please try out the following cleansweep and
    re-installation procedure instead, to see if it works:-
    1.  Enable the WINDOWS 2000 STARTUP MENU by rebooting your computer and
    tapping F8 once every second OR holding the SHIFT key while rebooting.
    2.  When the menu is displayed, select SAFE MODE and press ENTER.
    3.  Once in SAFE MODE, insert the sound card's installation CD and exit
    out of the installer
    4.  Click START / RUN.
    5.  Type "X:\AUDIO\DRIVERS\CTZAPXX.EXE into the OPEN field (replace X
    with the applicable CD-ROM drive letter).
    6.  Click OK.
    7.  When the CREATIVE DRIVER UPDATE UTILITY opens, select DRIVER
    UNINSTALLATION under UPDATE OPTION.
    8.  If two out of the three options are disabled or grayed out under
    DRIVER TYPE, click OK.  Otherwise, select WDM.   You will then be
    prompted to reboot, but please do not do so.
    9.  Click START / SETTINGS / CONTROL PANEL / ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    10.  Remove all Creative SB Audigy 2 programs.
    11.  Close all windows, and reboot the computer normally (ENTER NORMAL
    MODE).
    12.  The Audigy 2 will be detected by Windows.  Cancel the ADD NEW
    HARDWARE WIZARD when able.
    In order to install your soundcard properly, I recommend you to ensure
    the following for the audio installation and test:
    - The card is the only card installed other than the Graphics card.
    - The card is at least one empty slot away from the Graphics card.
    - Place the soundcard away from all the others.
    - That the card is seated properly in the PCI slot.
    - Move the PC's internal wires away from the soundcard.
    - That the on-board sound on your motherboard is disabled through the
    BIOS.
    - That the on-board gameport is disabled through the BIOS.
    - That your motherboard BIOS is up-to-date.
    - That the operating system is up-to-date with the latest service packs
    and patches.
    - That there are no background applications open when you attempt the
    solution.
    - That the anti-virus program is disabled.
    - That if you are over-clocking your system, return all options to their
    recommended settings.
    - That you access the PC with administrator rights.
    13.  Perform an installation via the CTRUN program on the CD
    (X:\CTRUN\CTRUN.EXE where X is the drive letter of your CD drive that
    has the installation CD).
    [note:RE: Item 13 - there was a ctrunx directory with ctrunx.exe and start.exe in it. The ctrunx.exe wouldn't execute, but the start.exe did the job]
    14.  Reboot if prompted.
    15.  Please obtain the latest updates for your Audigy 2 card from our
    website:- http://us.creative.com//support/downloads/
    Under the option 'Select your product': Select 'Sound Blaster'->'24-bit
    Advanced HD'->'Sound Blaster Audigy 2'.
    Under the option 'Select your operating system': Select 'Windows 2000'.
    Click on the 'Go' button just below the Windows selection.
    In the next page, click on 'EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD Driver Update for
    Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2/Audigy 2 ZS' and the download should
    begin.
    16.  Once you are prompted to OPEN FROM CURRENT LOCATION or SAVE TO
    DISK, select SAVE TO DISK and download the update to MY DESKTOP.
    17.  When the file has completed the phase of being transferred to your
    computer, locate the file on your desktop and double click the file.

  • An internal Audigy card for Laptops

    Hello everybody in the room(s)!
    I?d just was wondering whether an internal soundblaster Audigy card for laptop has been released or not yet (a really internal one, not that for the PMCIA port). I own an almost-new Dell laptop. Do anybody knows something in this respect?

    Thanks, I took the plunge and got one of those cards. It installed fine - not sure which way to connect the two antennae - but have tried both ways (main and aux - black and white cables???)
    The drivers have installed fine and the OS works with the provided utilities but I have not been able to get a wireless signal yet. There are several wireless networks where I live as I used to be able to see them on my old iBook, but I can see none with this machine. Sadly I sold the iBook so have nothing else to check if the base station(s) are live.
    I did have SSID broadcast disable, so I set it in the clear but it is still nto showing up.
    Apart from the wireless on/off button at the side, is there anything else I could have overlooked? - I noticed fn+F8 has a wireless icon on the key but it appears to have no effect?

  • Original Audigy card good for recording? Noise issu

    Does the original audigy card carry the same Noise Ratio as newer cards do? I have just recieved one of these for use in my home recording project, and the noise level is VERY high. I'm pretty sure it is not an enviromental issue either. Please help me out.

    You can't plug your bass directly into your card because of impedance mismatching; your bass is at instrument level while the soundcard has line-level inputs. The bass expects to be plugged into a high impedance (Hi-Z) input. A card's line-ins are usually around 10K ohms - too low for instruments like guitars which typically require 500k and above. Direct plugging will only result in a thin sound and low level which easily distorts when you try to crank up the gain.
    Check if your practice amp has a line out or DI out as previously suggested. Bear in mind that this is mono signal so you may have to route that to your mixer before going into the card. If you want to bypass your amp, you will need a DI box that will convert the unbalanced output of the bass to balanced; it will also match impedances going into the mixer's balanced (XLR/mic)inputs. Plus, the use of a balanced cable from DI to mixer will provide a degree of noise cancellation and you can use relatively long cables. Best of all, the DI will retain the tone of your bass.

    Has anyone tried the new Creative Audigy cards, the specs on the PlatinumXL look good for the price, I really like the idea of the breakout box.
    Any input would be apreciated, the review I read did not say anything about W2K drivers or compatibility.

    I was talking about the computer's internal 32 bit processing. Many soundcards handle 32 bit bitstreams, which prevents the need for bit unpacking, but the 32 bit floating point processing wouldn't be handled in the card anyway.     you can't hear the difference doesn't mean that others can't. And as a bald statement of fact, for

It's a 16 bit 48K card with slightly more attention paid to the analog front end, which was certainly a problem with the original Live!. Oh, yes, 16 bit audio. It has been established for a long time that if you are going to output stuff at 16 bit 44.1K, then you should ideally digitise at a greater bit depth, especially if you intend to manipulate the data. This has even more significance when the A/D converter is on a soundcard in an electrically noisy environment, as you are unlikely to even reach your 16 bit resolution because of the noise. That's certainly the case with the Live! and the Audigy. The reviews claim that the Audigy will average about 90dB SNR when recording, which
    at best means that you will only manage to make a 15 bit original. If you lose it at this stage, you'll never get it back. Even most 18 bit cards have trouble with this, and the difference is clearly audible in the end results.
    As far as vinyl and recording goes, there seems to be a consensus view amongst the people that do a lot of it that there is significant detail at low levels on a lot of records, and on a higher bit rate and bit depth system, you will be able to capture this with suitable equipment. The argument is that it is then possible to make the best correctly dithered 16 bit recording possible, and still be able to audibly recover the low level signals. I'm not sure how far I personally agree with the dither argument, but if it is true, then you certainly need to be able to digitise at greater than 16 bit depth.

    Midiman Delta 44, if you shop around. It's a 24/96 card with a breakout box. Not only that, but you can upgrade the breakout box to an Omni I/O if you want. The spec beats the Audigy hands down for music apps, but not for games, I suspect. I'm sorry, I can't find one as bad as your SNR spec...

    Well, if you don't mind compromising the breakout box slightly (breakout leads, expansion capabilities, etc.), in the same price bracket there's the Audiophile 2496, Terratec 24/96 card, Hoontech do a range of stuff with breakout and upgrade possibilities, Marian does the USB1 20 bit USB breakout box
    much cheaper than the Audigy (rather less facilities, admittedly) and there are any number of cards without breakouts but with improved audio specs at the same price point. Many of the standalone cards are
    significantly cheaper than the Audigy.
    I'm quite happy to concede that the Audigy's S/PDIF may be capable of accepting a 24/96 bitstream, if you can provide it, but the rest of the spec is pretty average when you compare it to other 24/96 cards. Creative have also continued to provide support for the soundfont system, which many people find useful as a sampler. But at heart, it's still a games card. Creative knows where their biggest market is likely to be.
    As far as insults are concerned, I said that you need to learn a bit more. I also read your other thread, where you said that you'd managed to get 'up to speed in a month', or whatever. I've seen
    no evidence that this is the case. Things have changed out of all recognition in the last ten years as far as the practical realisation of recording is concerned. The basic principles have not altered, but just about everything else has.
    And they say that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. You should consider this carefully.

    Just returned to my computer (iMac G5), woke it up and found that menues and transparent areas in the OS looked weird:

    Have tried to restart, uninstall OS-skin-enhancers etc but it doesn't change.
    HOWEVER, the problem was solved when I booted in "safe mode". The 256 colors mode still looked weird, but it was all good in Millions colors.
    Anyone who can help me out?

    I have something quite similar with mine, well, even more frightening than beakid's screenshots actually.
    So I ran the Apple Hardware Test and I got the following error code:
    2NVD/3/4: 2103
    ...sounds like my video card is in trouble...
    but anyone knows what that means exactly? is it actualli broken or is there just something wrong with its memory?

    falls into THIS range of serial numbers, you are
    actually covered for two years on video and power
    supply issues.
    Unfortunately my iMac's serial number doesn't belong to said range, and Apple doesn't even seem to have ever heard of it. So I can't even use the chat-with-a-support-agent-and-get-an-answer-at-once thing.

  • Audigy card identificat

    I have just bought a SB Audigy but I cannot seem to get any driver to install. I get the "soported hardware not detected" type message. I think I need to identify the card.
    Model: SB0090
    Audigy SB394 EAX Advanced HD
    Serial: MSB009023043078
    Showing in hardware manager as: PCI\VEN_02&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_004002&REV_03\4&23C0BC& 0&50F0
    Can anyone shed some light on this before it dri'ves me nuts? Unlike modern day manufacturers that use unified driver packages it seems that SB are card specific? Surely not?

  • MIDI-In not working from my Casio PX-100 keyboard to Audigy card. HELP

    Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. I've searched on google, in this and many other forums. It seems like alot of people have this sort of problem. I've tried various solutions suggested to other people but to no avail. I actually have 2 problems. . MIDI-in isn't working2. I get the message "timeout error" when I try to send MIDI files to the keyboard using the SMF converter. I'm running widows XP Pro service pack 2, MSI K8N Neo motherboard, creative Audigy soundcard with the latest drivers, ATI All in one wonder graphics card, M-Audio Soundcard MIDI cable which connects to the game/joystick port which you can view [url="http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/SoundCardMIDICableMale0ft-main.html">here.[/url]?MIDI out works. I tried re-installing the Audigy drivers after using software to remove all other audio drivers. AC97 is disabled in the BIOS. I used the keyboard in AudioHQ to test? MIDI-In - I have MIDI-IO selected in the MIDI options for the keyboard. As for?the SMF converted, I don't understand why my keyboard?can play MIDI files from my computer but the converter doesn't work. I've tried many other things. Maybe a USB cable will work?Thanks.

    Hi,
    I have problem to get connected with other computers i.e ping is not working.
    Could it be that network card is broken. Other proof is that when I try to reinstall v.3.75 drivers it hangs everytime to same place where is says that it's installing ethernet controller...

    Well, to not be going too deeply to network problems, I just wonder what can be when this installer hangs to that same point everytime (I have to boot comp to get over it).
    Device manager says that its working properly...

    driver version: 3.1.3.0
    hmm nothing else came to my mind, but pls let me know if something else is needed.

  • Audigy Card Defecti

    I have an HP Vectra VL800 P4-.5Mhz with 768Mb running Win XP Pro, until recently my older Audigy Gamer (~-/2yrs old) was working fine until I added a new 300GB SATA hard dri've. Due to its age, the system required an SATA host adapter.
    After several unsuccessful attempts to install the new hard dri've, I finally had to reformat the system and start clean. This time the SATA host adapter accepted the drivers and worked, however the Audigy Gamer didn't. All the other components work fine. The device manager shows the card as a Multimedia Audio Controller and the firewire port as a 394 Network Adapter with exclamation marks.
    Every attempt to install the drivers results in the same problem, the driver installation package fails to find the card and quits. I did finally manage to "force" the card to find the drivers manaually but it did not work properly, no rear speakers or 5. sound.
    I have tried everything including:
    > Removed all unnecessary hardware to free up resources by re-arranging and testing each and every card within various locations (lan, I/O parallel/serial card, USB 2.0, SATA host adapter and Audigy Gamer) to determine if any IRQ interupts were the root cause with no success.
    > Tried a cleansweep and reinstalling just the card without any others, still not success.
    > Tried various versions of drivers downloaded from Creative's website.
    > Disabled all unused on-board devices including motherboard resident sound and serial ports.
    > Reset AGP Aperture Size to lowest possible setting, updated the system BIOS and lowered the video card acceleration, no luck.
    > The same situation occurs when I installed the Audigy Gamer in another system. Should I interpret this mean the card is shot?

    was having my problom again today with the sound maxing out and i could not tern it back down so i tride holding down "SHIFT" when i changed the valume and i stayed where i wanted it somthing like in some websites where i need to hold shift to go forworde to a download or Pic google popup perhaps blocking my sound out?

  • 3 Audigy cards all have the same prob

    I have 3 different computers. All of them are running Windows XP-Home adddition. They all have over GB of memory. They are all faster than 2.4 GHz processors. They all have ATI video cards with 256 MB or more of memory. They all have Audigy sound cards in them. They all installed without any problems. They have all worked for over a year or more. They all have developed the same problem and that is right after the warranty expired on each of them.When any of the computers boot up, during the boot up process two error boxes pop up. One is labled [ Creative Taskbar ], the other is labeled [CLTTray ]. They both state the same issue. "The sound card in the system is not properly installed. Reinstall the sound card and try again."? Reinstalling the sound card does not resolve the issue. Something in the registry has been altered and stays even if you reinstall the sound card. I have contacted Creative support several times and the only solution suggested was to send $2 by credit card for 30? minutes of disscussion. I have recently emailed Creative support and specifically requested the information of what to alter in the registry to resolve the issue. Creative ignored my request and suggested I try this discussion group, if I was not interested in paying for discussion. I have li'ved with this problem of these error boxes popping up on all of these computers for some time. It is an annoyance to have to click ok twice on each box to remove them from the desktop, only to have them appear the very next time the computer is booted up. Is anyone associated with this newsgroup familiar with this issue and what it takes to resolve it. I would appreciate any positi've information.

    The simplest and easiest test to try first of all is this one...
    Place the mouse on a blank sheet of A4 paper. Then try again. If it works now, then its the surface that you were using. A new mouse mat may be in order.
