Is my battery dead or is it just not charging?

We made the mistake of using the PB G4 as a desktop and kept it plugged in for a very long time. Now the machine wont run unless it is plugged in.
About this mac gives me this info:
Battery Information:
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 0
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 3695
Health Information:
Cycle count: 0
Condition: Good
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 3614
Coconut battery gives me this info:
Current battery charge 0 mAh
Maximum battery charge 3697 mAh 0%
Current battery capacity 3697 mAh
Original Battery capacity 4400 mAH 84%
Battery Loadcycles 216
Age of you Mac 56 months
Charger connected yes
battery is charging no
If I take the battery out, About this Mac still says that the battery is installed.
We've also gotten some date and time error messages that make me think the PRAM battery needs to be replaced (it's still the original, as is the main battery)
Last clue, the PB wont hold our home wireless network as a preferred network. Every time we power up it says that the preferred network is not located do we want to join our home network.
thanks for the help

Yes, you've killed your main battery. Replace it and charge the new one fully, then remove it and leave the AC adapter connected for five or six hours to recharge the PRAM battery, which is apparently also drained now and may or may not be able to take a charge. Then reinsert the main battery and use the computer normally. If "wrong date and time" messages continue to appear, your PRAM battery will also have to be replaced. If it's more than four years old, it's due for replacement in any case.

    Hi,
I would like to ask you a question.
a month ago I bought a battery case for iPhone 5 and it worked properly until I installed iOS 7. From that day my iphone is operating normally, BUT when the battery is empty, unfortunately I can not charge additionally my iphone with the "extra battery case".
Does that mean that you did not even create a new software that supports additional battery case or it is something else?
    I need your help!!,
    Thank you in advance.
    Sincerely,
    VK

The Mophie Air is a good battery case, but doesn't offer the protection she's looking for. I suggest sticking to the Lifeproof, the iPhone has a very good battery (2-3 days moderate usage for me).
To your 2nd to last paragraph, that is false. Verizon is allowing exisiting customers to keep Unlimited Data - but will lose it once they use a subsidized upgrade. So if you buy a 4S (or LTE device for example) outright, you will keep unlimited data. Mobile hotspot may use up a bit of data, but it is a separate add-on/feature. The new Family Share plans may change that, so it's one giant center of data all devices use.

  • My bb 9380 won't turn on while the screen shows one battery sign with red cross mark ( not charging sign )

my bb 9380 won't turn on while the screen shows one battery sign with red cross mark ( not charging sign ), i think the battery drained and switch it for charging but it will show only not charging sign . i bought this phone before 9 months, whats the solution for this ?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know!

You'll want to reset your SMC (System Management Controller). Instructions are simple:

  • Satellite L450 - battery states '18% available plugged in, not charging'

Laptop is a L450-181 and is literally two years and two weeks old!!! gutted... help!!!

no, still doesn't work... i'm wondering that the problem is the battery, maybe the cells inside are corrupt or something...
...have others shared the same problem? - 'plugged in, not charging'
what is annoying, is that since i lost my job, i didn't want to fork out a meagre 10 per month on extending the warranty... so it ran out just over two weeks ago... i'm worried if this would corrupt the computer when the battery runs down to 0% available... at the moment it is 13% and falling!
thanks for responding feliks! I hope you got the answers compadre!

  • Battery drains like crazy, and now not charging fully! 3GS

My 3GS was 100% at 9am. I got a text message at 9:36am, and the battery was at 97%, so I went to reply to it. My phone shut off, like it had a dead battery, so I put it on the charger. About two minutes later, it turned back on and said it was at 62% battery! So, I kept it on the charger. It got to 72% and wouldn't charge any more. I took it off the charger for a moment before putting it back on. It wwent up to 73% and said it was full. I did that a couple more times, but it stopped charging once it hit 74%, so I'm not sure what to do. I need my phone! I don't have a land-line, so this is the only way I can communicate with my family, friends, potential employers, etc.
(I was having the problem of the phone shutting off before I upgraded to OS5, but it got worse once I upgraded.)

It has never been dropped in water, and the closest it ever gets to water is being in my pocket or bag when it rains. I did a full restore, and it got worse...

  • Battery good, Ac Adapter Good, Computer not charging battery or staying on

My sisters 14inch ibook g4 will not stay on. We swapped my ac adapter with hers and her ac adapter works on my ibook. Swapped her battery with mine and her battery works on my ibook. So her battery is good and her adapter is good but computer will only stay on while battery has a charge otherwise is turns off (even while ac adapter is plugged in). Reset power management and all other posted ideas and now I have no idea what to do. The enegry status shows "battery not charging" and its plugged into a regular ac outlet so I am not sure why it says that except the fact its not charging..errr...I am starting to think it's a hardware issue... any opinions?

It sounds like the power input (DC-in) board has failed. This is the part of the iBook which houses the adapter port. The iBook is acting just like my husband's did when the power input board was damaged.

  • New Battery and adaptor and it's not charging

    Hi
I have a similar problem. Battery was not working. Macbook needed power lead connected or it died. Went to the Apple shop in Aberdeen. They prescribed a new battery which I bought from them. I have now removed the old battery and installed the new one. The charge indicator on the battery shows 2 of the 5 green lights indicating at least partial charge. The power cable is showing green light only. I have tried two different power cables and both do the same. The battery indicator at top right of screen has an X in it indicating no charging going on. I have followed the instructions in Article HT3964 to reset the SMC, tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM but it didn't work - I pressed the CMD, shift, P and R keys simultaneously The Article HT1379 referred to the Command-Option-P-R keys. What is the option key? Is it the shift (as in up arrow) key?

  • Battery heating up, now it is Not Charging

For a while I have had the issue of my macbook becoming very warm when charging, or in use. And it would often say not charging, then i would have to remove and insert the charger a few times before it would work.
Now it is not charging at all, and the battery is at 0%.

If the heat is coming from the battery itself, you probably need a new one. If you're near an Apple Store or third-party service depot, they have a diagnostic they can run to determine if your battery has failed and needs to be replaced. Depending on your model, the battery may be something you can swap out, or would need to be done with a special tool.

  • Battery works perfectly fine but does not charge!! (HP Probook 4530s)

    Hi
This has been happening for the past couple of days or so. My laptop works perfectly fine on the battery but when I plug in the charger, it says "Plugged in, charging" but the battery does NOT get charged. I ran HP Battery Check and got the following results in the charging and discharging situations:
I will be very thankful for any help you can offer!

Thank you for the reply Kalt. I have some questions:
    1. How do I perform a hard reset of the BIOS on this laptop?
    2. The battery does not even charge when the laptop is switched off. Which makes me think that it might not be a BIOS issue because when the laptop is off, the battery should charge on A/C power right?
    3. The battery charging LED does turn "orange" which means it is charging... but the battery doesn't get charged. Furthermore, until 2 days ago the battery was still lasting at least 2-3 hours on a full charge. Do you think that the issue is not with the battery but maybe the charging circuit in the motherboard has malfunctioned?
    I appreciate your help

  • X1 (1286) main battery good condition at 1% and not charging

    Hello,
I recently noticed that the main battery is no longer charging. It is now at 1% and not charging when AC plugged in (screenshots of powermanager attached). Power Mgr says it is in good condition. Since I usually have the slice battery attached on the road or AC plugged in at home, it has always been in Optmize for Health mode.
The battery gauge reset procedure was performed and hasn't helped.
I've run the battery firmware update utility and it has stated that battery firmware is up to date.
And as always the case, 1yr warranty expired  3weeks ago
I'll try updating BIOS (1.66) to latest, which I believe is 1.69, and post back if any success.
Any clues please? Thanking you in advance.

Thanks for responding Jin and helping out.
Unfortunately updating bios and power manager hasn't resolved this. The new version of power manager 6.54 dispays same battery details.
Furthermore, i am now noticing that the slice battery charges to only 80%  despite setting charge mode to fully charge. Could be experiencing this problem (x1 slice battery won't pass 80% unless internal battery is 100%) too, unfortunately no answers to that post.
In the process to updating drivers via LSC but not holding my breath

  • My iphone will not power on - when plugged in the battery will display, but it does not charge

My iphone ran out of battery a few days ago, and now it will not charge back up. Its been plugged in for over a day, when the home button is pressed it displays a battery with 3 small red bars. I was able to get it into recovery mode and restore factory settings - but this did not solve the problem! it is still not turning on. I have tried changing chargers etc. already and i believe it is a problem with the phone. please help!

Could be a battery problem. You'll have to visit an Authorized Apple Service Provider to Apple Store to get it checked for hardware issues.

  • Lost iPhone 5, Battery Dead, Last Used 10hrs Ago, Not Showing Last Known Location?

I lost my iphone 5 and now the battery is dead. I last used it 10 hours ago, but iCloud is not showing it's "last known location" - it just says it's offline. iCloud is supposed to show it's last known location for 24 hours. How can I find it's last known location if I know it was used just 10 hours ago?

So, the conclusion of my story is: I immediately logged into iCloud from my computer as soon as I noticed it was missing. I put my phone into 'Lock Mode' which allowed me to apply a passcode and message on the screen instructing the finder to call my friend's #. 4 days later, my friend got a phone call - a guy who tried to restore and activate it for his own use discovered it was impossible without my newly applied passcode, and he decided to heed the message I had displayed. He claims he bought it for cheap off craigslist, but I think he found it, tried to activate it, couldn't, and felt guilty. The happy ending is he agreed to meet me and hand back over my phone. Unbelievable!
BUT - there is no reason why it should have not displayed the last known location when I initially checked online. My Find My iPhone was turned on, and it should have worked, but it didn't. It simply said it was offline even though it was well within the 24 hour time period of when I last had it in my possession. So fortunately, the LOCK MODE was enough to deter the would be new owner from going through with trying to sell, hack, or activate it.
