Is my battery fried already?

Purchased in March of 2008, it has recently stopped holding a charge for more than 15 minutes... like so many others on this board. Can anyone tell by these specs if the battery is considered dead?
Thanks

The software update is to be run on older batteries, but as I understand it, the program is for any MBP with an Intel Core Duo processor. If nothing else, there is a clear explanation of some of the characteristics of a defective battery.
Good luck!

  • Is my battery fried?

I have a refurbished macbook air purchased in September 2013.  While charging my battery, my charger got very hot.  I unplugged it and let it cool.  When I tried again, the computer wouldn't charge.  I figured the charger was damaged from the heat and tried my other charger this morning.  It still won't charge.  It will recieve power from the outlet (little plug icon, % not decliing), but it will not actually charge.  Is my battery fried?

extremely likely the circuitry in your charger is kaput actually

  • Angry with Creative Tech Support!!! Battery fried and they won't help!

I am seething with anger right now over the awful Tech support I just received from Creative's Tech support phone line. I called to find out how I can get my almost new less than 2yrs old Creative Zen Sleek Photo 20gb MP3 players battery replaced. I am sure that my brand new Toyota Prius mp3 AUX jack fried the batter in my player. I have owned this for less than 2 years, and I hardly ever used this player. I always kept it charged fully and rarely played it.
I have kept my player plugged into the AUX jack in my new Prius for the past 3 weeks, I went to turn it on yesterday and the battery was dead, it would not power up, so I just thought I forgot and left it on in the car and the battery just needed to be charged. I charged it up from 5pm last night to 6am this morning and it still showed it was charging, but no progress was being made on it. I unplugged it and tried to power on, nothing,, dead,, so I plugged it back into the charger and powered it on, it came one and started playing, then I left it on and unplugged it from the charger and within 20 seconds it gave me the warning that the battery was low and it was shutting down. The battery bar was completely white and showed that it was not charged at all from all those hours of charging, it usually charges full within 4 hours, it had been plugged in for 3 hours with it not being charged at all, yet it showed that it was charging..
So, I know the battery is now fried, and I am sure the Prius AUX jack killed the battery, I have already heard of one other person this happening to on a Prius message board.
So, I called up Creative this morning to just ask them how much to put in a new internal battery and fix it, they won't do it because it is out of warranty,, I told them I know it is out of warranty, but I am willing to pay? them to fix it, they told me that don't do? that, and I then asked very nicely and calmly to please direct me in how I can get it fixed, silence,,, from the agent,, she did not know what to say, basically she kept telling me I would just have to buy a new one.. I repeatly asked her to please tell me if the internal battery is replaceable by "SOMEBODY", I know Creative will not repair it, but you cannot tell me that this player is garbage now and nobody can fix it just because Creative refuses to do so.
I then asked her how they can make a $250 product that cannot be repaired once it is out of warranty. I asked her what kind of company makes products that are not fixable?, This does not make any sense at all. once again, silence from her.. I kept? repeating that I just want to know if the battery can be replaced by somebody and how to go about finding out. She acted like it was a big secret. I said, Look, I know you won't fix it, but it has to be fixable by somebody... right,, or are you telling me that once the warranty is out, products just need to be thrown away in the garbage and replaced with a new one,, there is nothing else wrong with the player, the battery is just fried, that is all, as it still works when it is plugged in to the charger.
You cannot tell me that a company like this makes internal batteries that are NOT fixable once they break, and the ONLY solution is just to buy a new product? This is insane, if this is the case I will NEVER buy another Creative product again..
I have now called Toyota to see what they are going to do about this, but I'm not sure how I can proove that the AUX jack really did the damage. I know it did, but all I want to find out is how to get somebody to replace the internal battery.
I have over 4,000 songs on this thing and I don't want to buy a new one and have to download them all again, this took me over 6 months to do this...
Does anybody have any suggestions, I really truly disappointed in Creative and how they operate. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she wanted to pass me along to another Agent, I said NO, I want your name and the supervisors name and I am now waiting for a call back within 48 hours they told me.

HI, Thanks for the websites, I did find some yesterday,, Be assured that if your player is out of warranty Creative will not repair it for you even if you tell them that you will pay for the repair. They just don't care, they want people to just buy a new one and they will refuse to tell you that there are places out there that will fix it for you. It is like some big secret I guess and their customer service reps in the Tech dept. will NOT tell you this. To me, this is such a deception and the most awful customer service in my opinion. I can guarantee that I will never buy another creative product again if? this is how they deal with customers that have purchased their products.
I was not blaming them for the battery not working or anything just wanted their help in finding out how I can get it fixed. Crap happens and things break, but if Creative truly has the opinion that they will refuse to talk to you after the warranty has run out, this is totally appalling. I actually had to lie when I called and I had to hit the button that said that my player was less than 6 months old. Because there was NO way for me to talk to a li've person or get any questions answered by them if the player was out of warranty. They direct you to the website help, but that site is NOT working, and I still get a message today telling me that some "Kana" help website is currently not responding. This has been doing this since yesterday.
So, right off the bat you are already shown that Creative could care less about their products after the warranty runs out.
Oh, and I never said in my post that I did not have my music backed up on CD's or on the Computer, I merely said that I did not feel like downloading all 4,000 songs again onto a new player, that takes time. I have over 25,000 songs, almost my entire CD collection on my computer and it does take time to go over all those again and pick the ones I would want on a new player. All of my music is backed up, that does not mean though that it is not a pain in the butt to transfer them all to?a new player. I certainly will not buy another Creative product, so I would in essence have to start all over again and pick out the ones I want on a new player.
I'm in the process now of finding one of those repair places on the web to fix it, but I will never buy another product from Creative again

  • IPod battery fried. What should I do?

So I bought my iPod touch in June of last year and then a week ago, the hardware fried out. I didn't purchase any warranty plans because, honestly, I didn't think that my iPod would turn to this state in less than a year and a half. My dad took it in for a genius appointment and they said that the actual hardware, not the battery, was fried and useless. I don't really know who to ask this question, since I don't see a link anywhere to email apple, but what would you suggest?

    John--
I'm going to start: Define what is "fried." What exactly is the issue? Touch screen, volume, home button? Are they sure it's not the battery?
Apple can be reached here: http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • Battery problems ALREADY!

Hey guys and gals! I just received my iPod Nano in the mail 2 days ago! I love it! But I've already found a problem.
I just tested the battery life of my iPod and it only is capable of 9 hours of music playback. This is without me touching it so the backlight comes on or anything. It's supposed to last up to 14 hours. I would've understood maybe 13 hours or so but 9? That's ridiculous. That's a whole 5 hours less.
Anyways thanks for reading everyone. Is there any way to fix this problem or is it just a defective battery??
I just drained the battery(played it for the 9 hours until it switched off) and am now charging it. It's already half full and it's been half an hour. Before it took over 15 hours to charge so maybe after draining it once the battery might last longer?? Is that possible?
    Cheers!

From new the iPod battery can take time getting to full potential, I wouldn't worry so soon. Have a look at these pages:

  • Is it ok to continue plugging in a rMBP to ac when its sleeping? (When the battery is already 100%.)

Using my rmpb mainly as a desktop. Been searching around online and found that it is ok to plug in to ac constantly (with occasinal cycles). But what about when it is sleeping? Does that make a difference? Have read somewhere that says its not good to plug in to ac when sleeping ._.
    Thanks!

The computer isn't harmed by being plugged in while asleep. However Apple does recommend that you take the computer off the power adaptor at least once a month. You don't want to drain the battery. When your battery is about 80% depleted you should get a warning that you are on reserve power. At that point plug it back in.
Since my office MBP sometimes sits on my desk for weeks, I've set a repeating monthly reminder so at least once a month it gets used on battery. This is a 2009 MBP and the health is excellent.

  • Year Old 4G 20GB simply will not charge - battery issue already?

I've had a 4G ipod for a year now which charged with both the USB cord to my laptop and the firewire cord to the AC adapter until yesterday.
Once before I ran the battery low enough that it wouldn't mount on the computer and I got the battery with exclamation point icon. However it did take a charge from the AC adapter. This time the icon showed for a second and then completely died. I have not been able to get the ipod to mount or charge on the laptop (or another computer's USB port) or been able to charge from the AC adapter.
I followed Apple's troubleshooting (including waiting over 30 minutes for the ipod to recognize the charge from the AC adapter, but it refuses to turn on at all, and I can't get it to reset. I use the Ipod a lot, but not nearly enough to go through the estimated 300-500 charge cycles to deplete the battery.
    Any thoughts?

Try hooking it up to the AC adapter and leave it to charge overnight. If it is still unresponsive the next morning, I'd start looking around for a Apple service tech.

  • 10 Week Old MacBook & Current Battery Capacity already at 94%

Hello everyone, I recently bought a new macbook (11/09) and mainly use it thru its power adapter, although I do use the battery occasionally. Yesterday I decided to perform a battery calibration and it went as follows: The battery was fully charged when I unplugged the computer from it's power supply (the original battery capacity also showed 100% via Coconut). I took the battery all the way down to about 1% then re-charged it completely only to return and see that the Current Battery Capacity is 94%. I've only had 10 load cycles in the 2.5 months I've had it. Here's my battery info:

Is there something going on with my battery or is it normal to lose 6% on a calibration? As I said, I have been typically using it with the power cord connected vs. just the battery. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should take it off the charger every so often, so the battery can drain and recharge. That will help some.
I can't see losing 6% of the battery as new. However, I also don't know how long the MacBook sat there prior to your purchasing it, etc. So while it seems odd, it also isn't outside the realms of possibility.

  • My ipod touch will not turn on, i pluged it up to my computer to charge but it wont charge. and plus its battery was already full. why wont it turn on??

So one day is was laying next to my ipod touch and i tried to turn it on but it wouldnt. so then i pluged it up to my computer to charge but it didnt charge, the computer didnt pick up the divice. so now my ipod touch will not turn on, and i have no idea why. PLEASE HELP.

mine did the same thing. What I did was hold the home and power button down for 10 seconds but that did not work. I figured out that I just had to hold them down for a long time like 15 to 45 seconds. Then it finally turned on. You may have to do it a couple of time. But if this does not work send it in to the apple company they fixed mine completly free they even sent me a box to send it in. I hope my answer helps you fix it.

  • Phone is a week old and battery is horrible already!

Please help, my phone is brand new and the battery is horrible. I have brightness down all the way, notifications off. I turn wifi off when I don't use it. I know about all that stuff. The battery still drains. I charge it at night take it with me, never use it until about 10 in the morning, and the battery is already down to 70 percent. It's a joke. I knew they didn't have great battery, but this is ridiculous! I don't have location on either and it's not too full, although that shouldn't cause problems. I don't know what else to do. I'm hoping it's an issue with a software update. I really don't want to take it back to AT&T this soon after buying it.

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Problems with random shutdown after replacing a swollen battery

    Hello all,
Perhaps one of you can help with this issue.
I'm using a Macbook Pro 17" mid-2007 model. A few months ago, the power disconnected from the machine when the battery had already run down and the machine did a hard shutdown. When I booted it back up there were serious problems with the display. Eventually it stopped working altogether. I took it for service and it was determined to by the NVIDIA graphics processor problem, so Apple replaced my motherboard.
When I got the machine back from servicing, there was a rattle in the right fan that gradually got worse. After a while the touchpad button stopped depressing in the center. I also experienced several random shutdowns while operating on battery power. I learned about the swelling battery issue with macbooks and ordered a replacement. By the time the replacement battery arrived my original battery was quite swollen. I'm concerned that the swelling battery may have warped the case a bit, leading to the fan noise.
I have now replaced the battery, but I'm still experiencing random shutdowns after 20+ minutes of use on battery power. I have done the RSS tests that were recommended in other forums and there doesn't seem to be any random shutdown problems when I'm plugged in -- only under battery power. My understanding is that a swelling battery can sometimes cause the battery to disengage from the electrical contacts on the MB, causing a sudden shutdown. I'm wondering why the problem is persisting now with a new battery? After one random shutdown, I tried to power up again using the battery, while pushing the battery into place at various angles, but I couldn't find any angle that would give power to the machine. The fan noise is also still present.
Can anyone offer an explanation or advise on any methods to overcome these random shutdowns? I have checked the console and the machine isn't registering any error when it shuts down, although when it restarts it says "DirectoryService[35] Improper shutdown detected"

Yep, it is video (or: or audio for video) so unless you're sure you need it (because you work or will work with the DVC Pro HD video/audio codec), you can remove the plug from its' folder and put it in your documents folder (don't trash it, I have no idea if it is necessary for non-DVC Pro HD users to have it installed too).
The WWW is littered with posts from people encountering bugs and crashreports with DVCPROHDAudio.plugin as the main suspect. Most of those posts seem to be from video people rather than audio folks.
    http://www.google.nl/search?q=DVCPROHDAudio.plugin&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=or g.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
But, if you get crashes and you see this one mentioned in the report, disable it, restart, and see if the problem's gone.

  • IPod touch 4G battery life is short

Hi, my iPod touch battery is really short.  I've had the iPod touch for about 5 months now and the battery is already bad.  To be more specific, it loses about 30 % of battery every 10-20 min when I am playing a 2d game(3d games take up more battery)With the wifi on and brightnes at 50 %  and it should last way longer that that!!!  Please help.  Thanks
PS my friend has a jailbroken iPod touch 4g and he was wondering if having a jailbreak on will reduce his battery life.

after the ipod'sbattery is flat charge it for 4hours to 100% battery.
if the battery is still going flat after a short time the battery needs replaced

  • 23" Cinema Display and Powerbook battery

I have a battery problem or possibly an Apple Cinema Display problem that ruined my battery. I bought my computer over three years ago and I have replaced the battery once already. I had been getting good performance from the second battery until I was finally able to pull my ACD out of storage (lenghty remodel). Using my ACD I was having to leave my computer plugged in all the time ( I don't recall that being necessary before) and it seems to have completely sapped my battery. I get at most 30 minutes on the battery now. I am not sure I want to put the money into another battery only to have the Cinema Display ruin it...can it do that, or it is just a dead battery?

Well I just got a 23 inch display which i was told is the new spec. Contrast ratio of 700. The picture is brilliant and bright, but like the two i sent back (which i believe were the old spec) it still has a lot of light leakage on full black. You don't notice this when the screen is operating normally. When i sent back the first two apple displays, I got a Dell 24 inch. No light leakage at all and quite a nice looking machine with loads more interface options. However, the picture, though good, looks dull compared to this new 23 inch.

  • "phonetic name", wi-fi, 3G, teaching Siri, 4s battery (???)

    Hi.
I have an iphone 4s and i'm not being able to add a phonetical name to an existing contact on my contacts list.
i select the contact, click on edit, and then on add field, but the "phonetical" thing does not appear.
Does anybody know how to solve this? Or what might be wrong?
    Another questions...
my wi-fi at home is much slower than my 3G. Is that normal? Because when i'm at home and i want to use the wi-fi, it's too slow... It is just too annoying...!!
How can i teach Siri, to make her understand what i say, correctly?
Thank you guys! Sorry for the amount of doubts!
ps. i'm also having problems with the 4s battery, and hoping Apple solve this issue soon! Fingers crossed!

well, my wi-fi modem is only connected to my computer by a cable. and i don't share the signal with anyone else.
the bandwidth on the computer it is quite fast, so i find it very strange that the 3G is faster then the wi-fi.
finally i could find an answer on the phonetic name here on the forum...!!
as for the battery, i already did the most of the things being taught on the forum to maximize its life. but its such a shame....
    thanks for the peply!
