Is my Battery messed up????

I just got a 30gb video ipod about a week ago and I have probably used it for about 4 hours total. The problem is my charger icon goes down to about 60% or so after around an hour , so I charged it overnight, and again after about an hour only 60-70% is left. I know that you are supposed to get 14 hours of time with the 30gb, and after about 10-15 minutes I can notice the charger icon already going down. Is this normal with the icon or is my bettery screwed up?
By the way, I turned it on a little while ago and it was about 1/2 full after using it for about 45 minuets this morning. So I put the stop watch on,and 20 minutes later the icon was in red.

Don't only rely on the battery meter. At times, it may be inaccurate. Also, make sure you are fully charging the battery (so it says charged)

  • New Battery Messed Up My MBP

So i got this battery http://www.amazon.com/Original-battery-Apple-Macbook-5600mAh/dp/B001K34BYM/ref=s r15?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252195414&sr=1-5, because the one that came with my computer doesn't really hold a charge. So i got the battery today put in my mbp, left it charging, until the mag safe turned green.
Then when i turned it on, the tone sounded, the apple came up and the spinning inicator thing came on, and then it just turned off. Tried it again and again, and same thing happens. I tried changing the RAM, and still same thing happened. I also tried using the original battery and no battery with it just plugged in. Tried to safe boot and same thing happens. Any ideas?

    Good deal!
However, you might want to be nervous about your hard drive, particularly if it is the original. hard drives Have a useful life of 3-5 years, and some fail before then. Sometimes when a drive starts to head south physically, that will cause problems with the complex software on the drive, which can mean you have to repair or reformat the drive.
There is a good utility for checking out the physical health of your drive:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
You can download the demo and run it several times for free.
Even a failing drive can work for a while, but it can also fail without notice. If this utility shows too many errors on your drive, it would be a good opportunity to schedule an upgrade to a larger and faster drive.
    Good luck, and Happy Computing!

  • 2006 iPod Photo Battery is Dying, Replacement Problem

Hello, I bought iPod Photo in 2006 and note that the battery is about to die recently. However the condition of her is still very "fit". I just want to replace a new battery for her. Can Apple do it for me? And how about the fee. Thanks for looking and good day!

The battery will not charge eithger. I have left it in a computer and ab outlet charger both for 1 hour, but no juice is going to the iPod. Is the cord dead? Or is the battery messed up? What is going on?

  • IPod Photo 60G and Windows problems

I am unable to connect my Photo 60G iPod to my current computer.
I can connect it successfully to my laptop, so I know that the fault is not with the iPod or the iPod cord. I can connect my daughter's rather elderly 10G iPod to this current machine successfully, so I know it isn't this computer or the iTunes software.
What I can not do is connect the 60G iPod. When I do, the iPod gets the 'Do Not Disconnect' icon going but then computer usually freezes before opening iTunes and I can only sort it out by shutting off the machine. If I open iTunes first and then connect it, the iPod does not show up and sometimes the 'Do Not Connect' icon comes on and sometimes it doesn't.
If I leave iTunes closed, attach the iPod and then try to access it via the iPod updater in the Programs menu, it either freezes the machine as above or it gives an error message saying I need to restore my iPod (which I clearly don't, as not only is it working perfectly, it also connects fine to the laptop.) In all these instances, if I try to eject it from the USB port by clicking on the icon in the tray to bring up the 'eject safely' box, it will bring up the initial box and then freeze before bringing up the second confirmation box. In all these freezes, it ties up the machine so badly I have to turn it off at source. It will not even allow me to close down using Task Manager.
The iPod does generally show up in Windows, if I get that far and it doesn't freeze the machine before. Often it will then freeze the machine if I try to look at it in Device Manager or Windows Explorer.
I have done the following things to resolve the problem:
    1) Completely removed iTunes and the iPod Updater (numerous times), cleared out all their crap from the seven zillion places it goes on the machine, and re-installed cleanly using only the most up-to-date downloaded versions of both (plus, of course, have also tried the old versions, just in case.) In all instances, my daughter's small iPod works and mine doesn't.
    2) Tried the iPod on every single one of the USB ports on the machine, just in case one wasn't working. (They all are.)
    3) Followed the instructions on these two pages on this site to resolve the problem:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
    4) I searched Google Groups, where I found a reference to one problem I was having with the iPod updater which said it could be traced to an issue stemming ultimately from Apple's lack of understanding of the Windows platform and that the software couldn't cope with multiple drives or things not being on the C: drive. I do have my hard disk partitioned and formatted as drives C and D with everything defaulting to D. I would have expected Apple to have fixed this problem by now, as the was in March, so I made sure I have only the latest software, but this hasn't made any difference. I also tried specifically installing it to the C section of my drive but this didn't make any difference either. I suspect this may be a red herring, as if it were a genuine issue, I wouldn't expect my daughter's iPod to work either.
I don't want to be confined to only downloading music to my laptop, which is very old and slow and has a small hard disk. The problem seems to be very specific to the iPod 60G and I'm trying to figure out how it is different from the smaller iPod my daughter has and how to resolve it.
    Any suggestions?

  • Problems Booting

I have a AGP G4 with 2 internal HDs - the main + clone - an upgraded Power Logix processor bd, PCI boards for more firewire, USB2, SATA connections. The problem I've been having for the past year or more is booting up. (This is not my main computer which is why I've been tolerating this problem.)
When booting the computer there is always a question - will it start today without a problem? Sometimes I'll get a black rectangle in the middle of the monitor or I'll get the spinning ball of death. Lately I'll get a grey screen with directions to "restart" the computer because it didn't start up right the first time. And I'll restart and I'll get that grey screen again. Some of the time I'll reboot from the cloned HD, using the option key. Sometimes that works without a problem, other times not. I've used disc utility and Disk Warrior and "repaired" the main and cloned HD for "invalid" problems countless times. I've reinstalled 10.4 and software on the main HD assuming that it might be a software problem. No go. This problem is not going away and, at this point, I assume that this is a hardware problem but I don't know where.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem? Maybe something that is failing and has to be removed?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rich Green

    Hi-
Based on your statements regarding continued hard drive problems, the two biggest suspects are hard drive and RAM.
A hard drive with too many weak sectors will always have problems that just won't go away.
The same is said for flaky RAM.
Regardless of how many times a drive is repaired, and returned to a corrected state, RAM errors will soon return the drive to a poor state.
What does Disk Warrior say about your drives in the "Hardware" tab?
What I'm getting at is rather than software problems on the drive, it could be physical, or even electrical.
Download and run Memtest or Rember, and test all your RAM.
Swapping RAM positions is even a good idea, so as to guarantee all modules are completely tested.
While you are doing this, remove your PCI cards.
If the only boot drives are connected to the SATA controller, OK, keep it in.
What we are trying to do is limit suspects and reduce masking.
After RAM testing, if all tests pass, rather than sticking all the cards back in, try one at a time, then in combinations.
BTW, when was the last time that you changed your PRAM battery?
No sense in letting a 4-5 year old battery mess with you.
If it isn't the battery, in the least, a new one removes doubt.

  • Need fast he

I once backed up a bunch of stuff to my Zen Micro in removable disk mode.
Later on, the battery messed up so that the device can only be powered over USB. I have to get it into USB mode so I can copy off what I need, but I can't- when I start it up, it just shows a battery in the upper right hand corner with a blinking plug in icon.
Please help me... I'm desperate to recover these photo's... these are years of work.

    jbandy0,
There is a PlayForSure supported Zen Micro Media Explorer. Just go to the website and download Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update (48.24 MB).

  • My Phone is Inoperable - Genius Bar at 1pm

Have had a host of problems since upgrading to 4.0. Day 1 was a battery mess (drained immediately), but after a few reboots/syncs, it worked fine (but slower) for 2 weeks or so, but then crashed repeatedly this past Sunday. The phone was rebooting/non-functional for around 4 hours until I plugged it into a wall. Then it rallied for a few hours with phone and email working (although any non-Apple app crashed), and I was able to sync and upgrade to 4.0.1 on Sunday night. Monday morning, the phone was fantastic. It was fast, the apps didn't stall or have delays at all - everything worked.
Then the wheels came off. The phone went back into constant reboot or shutdown mode, and when it started up for brief moments, registered as "No Service." Now it won't do anything. I can boot it up, but it won't get past the black/white Apple intro screen, and occasionally has the "Reconnect to iTunes icon. When I try a full Restore/Recovery Mode, that fails as well. I have seen 2 errors here - one doesn't recognize a SIM card, and the other, more consistent error is an Unknown Error of various numbers.
I love Apple's products, but this experience has been frustrating to say the least. I use this phone for work and personal, and travel constantly, so am beginning to get nervous this will happen when I need it the most. I am heading to their store for a Genius Bar at 1pm.
Any thoughts, or is this beyond a "Fix at Home" solution.

  • Date and Time wrong after battery went flat, messing up whole system

    Hi all.
I had my iBook running free, no ac adapter connected.
This normally isn't a problem at all, if my iBook runs out of juice, it'll happilly sleep for hours. So I came back to use it again after an hour or so, expecting it to be asleep to find that it had totally powere down. The battery was out. I connected the ac adapter and booted.
Once OSX loaded, it told me the date was set to before march 2001, and would cause problems. Whaich was very accurate, I got BIG problems. The date has set to 1970, which would indicate the PMU was wiped/reset.
Normally I'd open system prefs and fix the date and time, but it won't load. OSX is running VERY slowly. Nothing works. No dock, finder is totally unresponsive, everything takes an age to load (if it even loads). I tried changing the date and time from terminal, but it wouldn't allow me, even though I'm logged in as the admin. Something odd I noticed in terminal was that the computer name seems to have changed. The iBook was Liam's-computer, my new core duo iMac became Liam's-computer-2, but terminal is now reporting the iBook as Liam's-computer-3.
Basically the whole thing is messed up, seemingly because of the stupid date time thing. Can I change the date and time in the Open Firmware?

Sounds like you may need your CMOS battery replaced.  It should not be a problem after you replace it.
Also, if you want to prolong your battery life, just detach it during computer use (use AC only).  Then while it is turned off I would actually plug it back in so your computer is never without a power source for an extended period of time.
There are many studies suggested that battery life will start decaying after 2-3 years regardless what method you use.  I actually recommend making the most use out of it.  Hope it helps.

  • Messed up battery calibration

    Hi,
I just received my MB Pro today and I messed up doing the initial battery calibration. I assumed the process as the same as my PowerBook G4 (charge battery to full, use computer until it sleeps, recharge again). I later looked up how to do it for the MB Pro and you have to leave it on full power for 2 hours, and then when it sleeps allow it to do so for 5 hours. Is it a big deal that I did the initial calibration wrong? Can I just do it over the correct way without worrying about it? Or is it even necessary at this point?
    Thanks

No worries. You can (and should) just repeat it following the proper steps. It's best to calibrate every 2 months or so.
    Hope this helps...

  • Fan, battery, lighting, all messed up

I have the 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core i7. Bought it in April 2010 new.
I was just sitting here having turned on the computer for like 10 minutes. Running Chrome and Skype. Suddenly it shut down. I started it back up and the fan is in overdrive but the machine is cold. The date was messed up. The battery is not being detected, the power adaptor doesn't light up yet the computer is working with or without the power adaptor. The keyboard backlighting is gone. Doesn't hold my internet connection automatically when I have to restart. Must reneter password or select my network.
I did run the software update yesterday for the first time. Have reset the SMC and zapped the PRAM.
    What happened?

    Reset the SMC again:

If that doesn't fix it, take it in for service.

  • HT4060 If I leave my iPad on a charging station will it mess up the battery

I've been leaving my iPad 2 on the charging stand will this mess up the battery or lower the charging total time

After the iPad is fully charged, the charging stops.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Apple wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad battery management is SO MESSED UP! HELP!

I have like 2 dozen batteries that I have swapped in the days since 10.8.4. The **** thing just drains in like 4 days. I am using apple wireless keyboard and mouse/trackpad (either at a time) with my macbook pro that is in closed lide clamshell mode less than a feet away from these devices. the batteries are draining like crazy! 3-4 days! they used to work for like weeks! i have heard in another thread that there is some bluetooth driver issue.
i know many of you would come up with things to check for like other wireless devices, etc. but like I said i have been using this since 2011 and only now since 10.8.4 they have gone crazy!
whats even more weird is that i dont think the batteries are really draining. its something to do with the battery management hardware/software that fails to see the power inside. when i remove the currently dead battery and put in one that was indicated having 0% charger i get a magically 50+ % sometimes event 80! a reboot and the figure is something else! since this is happening with all the three input devices i think its something to do with macbook pro.
    any fix?
    Neerav

    SOLUTION:
Put the devices in "Manual paring mode"
    1. Turn device off.
    2. Push and hold in power button until the LED starts flashing on and off.
    3. Try the paring procedure.
    4. It should work.
I went to the apple store and this is what they did. They got the trackpad paired no problem, but the keyboard would refuse to make connection. At first they blamed windows and didn't want to replace the keyboard because it worked fine under OSX. However I made them try one of their keyboards and it paired fine. So they ended up swapping out my keyboard for one of the newer ones and now it pairs with both windows and OSX with no problem!
