Is my beloved Mac dyin'? My lines aren't vertical, they're horizontal

My Mac is several years old, so I don't think I'm having the issue that newer iMacs are having with the display. My display looked like black and white horizontal dashes the other night. My wife just called and said she tried turning the Mac off and on several times. She said the apple was jumping all around at start up and then the display morphed to what I saw the other night. Any ideas? Any other info necessary to trouble shoot the problem?

Update your OS to v10.4.11. Use Software Update to install all the other updates that goes along w/the last version of Tiger.
Run Apple's Hardware Test which is on your System Install DVD #1. Read the DVD label to find out which key to boot up from to start the test.
More than likely you will need to take the computer to your local Apple Store or AASP to repair. +Depending on which model G5 iMac you have,+ you missed the free extended warranty program for your type of problem. The program expired last year or so.

What I finally did was to log into my icloud account online. I saw that all my contacts were properly synced from my MacBook Pro - so I unchecked "contacts" under iCloud preferences on my phone. Then I rechecked it and asked it to sync again. All the contacts from my MacBook Pro are now on my phone. Thanks for your help!

How can I correct the category assigned to my book? I do not have a Mac, submitting through Smashwords, and Smashwords says they can't get Apple to change the category.

My book is assigned to Romance/Gay&Lesbian, but that's wrong, it sould be with Literature&Fiction/Gay. How can I get that corrected? Apple says get my submitter to request a change, or else use a Mac and make the request myself. I don't have a Mac. Smashwords is my submitter and they claim they have no power or influence over what category Apple chooses.
My book could be found by browsing if it was in Literature&Fiction/Gay, but no one can find it by browsing when it is in Romance/Gay&Lesbian. Apple offers no way to browse Gay&Lesbian books in the Romance section.
Browsing is a powerful way for a writer's first novel to be found. I want my book to be listed with all the other gay books.

This was certainly worth a try, but Apple responded that they can only make changes in response to a request by the content provider, in this case (at this time, but probably not for long) Smashwords. So, one last try at Smashwords, who (as it turns out) knows less about providing content to Apple than you or I. If I can't convince Smashwords to educate themselves on how to deal with Apple, then I will withdraw my book from Smashwords completely and go buy a used Mac somewhere and become my own content provider to Apple. (Too bad Apple won't allow direct submissions without requiring that it be done with a Mac.)

See if the cam shows up under Devices in the Image Capture app.
Image Capture is located in your Applications folder.
Launch Image Capture then connect the camera.
The camera should show up under Devices top left side of the Image Capture window.
Now look at the bottom left side of the window. Click the: Connecting this (device) opens: pop up menu and select an application to import your photos.
You can also select a folder to import photos from the Import To: pop up menu.
Selet the photos you want to import then click Import or Import All on the right.

This is a wireless carrier issue. The fact that the speaker & microphone work properly for other apps is a great indicator that your device is fine.
Contact your wireless carrier about your call quality issue.

Is there a proper way to config multi-line text boxes so they're compatible with all/most browsers?

I've got forms that use multi-line text-boxes and they work fine with IE and Chrome. A user just discovered that in Firefox the fields don't wrap (it basically appears to be a large field but acts like a single-line).
Is there a workaround/fix for this?

Is the input text just some dummy text line e.g. "aaaaaaaaaaaaa...." without any spaces? Try by adding lorem ipsum sample text i.e. actual words with spaces between. It should wrap.

Larry, thank you for your reply. Actually, I haven't tried yet. I'm asking because whenever I receive emailed photos or transferred photos from a Mac (via USB) to my PC, they are wavy or blurred. Other PC users I talked with have the same problem. One friend told me this can be avoided thru a conversion process (I lost the instructions I was given). I just converted to an iMac, so I am looking for that process.

These are iPad apps correct?
Do you have restrictions set on the iPad? Settings>General>Restrictions>Installing apps>Off or Settings>General>Restrictions>Allowed Content?
Are you sure that the Apps are selected to sync from the Mac to the iPad?
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Apps Tab on the right.
Click on Install next to the apps that you want to sync.
Click on the Sync Apps Heading to select it
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
If you do not see the sidebar in iTunes 11 - go to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu.

I am in the middle east and I was calling a land line in Mexico but that should not have mattered. Moreover, the person I was speaking to told me they had gotten other text messages from me that know I never sent. I called my phone company (AT&T) and was told the problem was not with the system but with my Iphone. They suggested someone was using app that mimicked my phone number. Is such a think possible?

So Opt(alt) on the Mac should map to Alt on PC.
It would actually be helpful if the OP told us waht the shortcuts were meant to do...

I don't fully understand what the System Reset does but I've found that it cures many ills. It's easy, quick and harmless:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.
