Is my computer hacked?

occasionally the volume on my macbook pro lowers itself while I am listening to music. It is as if the f11 button to lower the volume is being pressed. is my comp hacked, hijacked, or comprimised?

Actually, no. The "shield window" is what is displayed on your screen when you resume from Sleep.
As you can see from this line:
8/23/13 1:37:07.127 PM   WindowServer[90]   device_generate_lock_screen_screenshot: authw 0x7fcac282f430(2000), shield 0x7fcac1454b30(2001)
OS X essentially takes a screenshot of your desktop as it is and uses it for the background of the login screen. As for the WiFi, that is normal.

  • I have been blackmailed by DDOS and Computer Hacki...

I was just playing Minecraft like kids my age usually do, and I have these 2 friends that I fired from my server. They kept being annoying so I blocked them. The friendship was about a year than that happened. After this they learned about DDOSing and Hacking a Computer. I am extremely worried and I would love someone from the Skype community to help. Here is the latest message from a group they last had me in. (1 hour ago)

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nothing has changed.  People don't know someone's address based off IP alone.  The closest anyone can get is the city from just that info, which means nothing.   I personally could care less if someone knows my IP address or even my home address.   If you are running a game server they already know your IP, so no mystery there. The only thing someone can do with that info is temporarily down your Internet connection at best.  If someone is attacking your IP and that occurs you can contact your ISP to have them investigate.  If you actually feel you are in danger you can contact local law enforcement.  In reality all you are dealing with are a bunch of other kids  or adults acting like kids who at best are "script kiddies", no one is a hacker/cracker and if they had your address and could even visit you their mom would probably have to drive them because they seriously have no life.

  • Was my computer hacked into?

I was away from my computer for several hours while there was a party at my house. When I came back, my computer had restarted which I thought was odd. I looked at the time and it was the current time. Normally, it states the last time that I was using the computer. I went into the console and looked at times and saw that it had been accessed or maybe not. It was not normal. Can anyone tell me what went on with my computer? Did someone break into my computer. I've copied and pasted from the console but I have no idea what anything means. Any help would be apprecaited.

Didn't read all your post, no real reason to. Do you have a Login password set that you have to type in every time you start or wake your Mac from sleep?
If not whether or not your system was hacked doesn't really matter. Without a Login password set that you have to type in every time you start or wake your Mac what do expect. It is Wide open for anyone to access it at anytime. Convenience for you = access for someone that would do you harm.
    Good Luck.

  • Computer hacked?

Second time that I have received this pop-up.
"This computer's local hostname "*****'s-Mac-Mini-2.local" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "*****-Mac-Mini-3.local".
It then tells me to press OK.
Does this mean my computer is hacked?

No. Can happen when a router restarts while a computer is sleeping. Other causes are discussed in the following previous discussion: Re: Computers local host name is already in use

  • Internet hacker, or computer hacker?

    Hello all,
I'm not overly knowledgeable about the ins and outs of mac computers, despite my family and I having owned basically every apple product since birth.
I have multiple hotmail and live email accounts, a facebook account, and a gmail email account. Each of these have - many, MANY times - have had their passwords changed by somebody else. so, for example, every few nights, I try to sign into Facebook, and it says, "Wrong Password". I then check my corresponding email and there are emails in my inbox from Facebook, about password changes I did not make.
So, because both facebook and gmail have been connected back to my various hotmail accounts, I figure the problem lies within hotmail.
So, pretty much, I'm just wondering if this sounds as if my whole COMPUTER has been keylogged / hacked / whatever, or is it exclusively to do with hotmail?
    Thanks, all.

So, pretty much, I'm just wondering if this sounds as if my whole COMPUTER has been keylogged / hacked / whatever, or is it exclusively to do with hotmail?
To have changed your passwords on various accounts many times, and still have them being changed afterwards indicates to me you have a keylogger or other spyware on your Mac.
This will sound like an accusation, though it's not intended to be. But about the only way to get a keylogger on your Mac is by installing illegal software. Such as a torrent version of Photoshop, iLife, etc. These installer packages are almost all stuffed with malware, along with what you're downloading. When you give any installer which asks for your admin password that information, it then has blanket authority to install whatever is in it. That's one way what Mac malware there is gets on your computer.
Another is adult sites (there are others) that insist you download and install a "codec" to view the video you clicked on. It installs no such thing if you fall for it. The usual payload is browser redirect software. Though it could just as easily be, or also include a keylogger.
Another are sites that tell you that you need the latest Adobe Flash player to view their site, and then have you download the Flash player from their site. Never, ever do that. Always and only get such software by directly visiting Adobe's site. Don't even trust a link in a third party site, it may be leading you to fake site that looks like Adobe's, but isn't.
Lastly, someone may have deliberately installed commercial spyware on your Mac, such as Spector. That would all depend though on who has direct access to your Mac to install such software.
I think your best bet would be to backup only what you absolutely need to save from the hard drive, such as your emails and other personal data, then erase the hard drive completely and install OS X and your third party apps from scratch.

  • Weird links sudden show up on some words on most of websites I have been visited...  is my computer hacked?

    Hi guys,
Today, I sudden noticed that most of the website I usually visited have a random links on some keyword. Here is the quick screenshot:
The links goes to other site (It called CouponDropDown or something). It really annoying me because I know that the links shouldn't be there. Most of the site I have been visited before it occured does not have that links at all.
I was wondering if my computer have been hacked? If you know how to fix the issue, please let me know soon and I hope it won't bring more damage to my computer :/
    Thanks!
    Christie

I don't know how it was installed, or how to uninstall it. I've never heard of it before, and I can't find it on the developer's website. Possibly it's a Safari extension. Select Safari > Preferences > Extensions from the menu bar and see what you have.
To avoid such problems in the future, be very careful of what you click on. Never let anyone else use your computer when it's logged in to your account.

  • Computer hacked; asking for update that I don't need. Spyware?

I believe it might by Spyware. Despite the fact that I'm running latest version of Firefox, a new link opens that tells me I need to upgrade to latest version of Firefox, which I mistakenly did. Now I have pop-ups galore. And I constantly have new windows opening up. I can't get any work done, I must use Firefox for my work. For example, I have had, I estimate, 10 windows or links open up in the short time that I have typed this message. Very frustrating. I am using Windows 8.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Why does my firefox switch to offline mode by itself, while i was browsing the internet?? is my computer hacked?

This has happened many times, with no apparent reason, i.e. when i tried to refresh a web page, or open a website, i got message to say that firefox was in offline mode (note, the internet had been working normal up to this minute), then i went to the File menu and I'd find that the "Work Offline" option had been ticked (but i did Not change any settings at all)
Btw, i am using Mac OS, and all the software are up to date.

Not hacked or such but if your connection should drop it could trigger Firefox to go offline.
For Firefox 3.5.* and 3.6.* users add this preference. Not needed if using Firefox 4.0.* as it is there and set to false by default.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_any_website#Work_Offline_Setting
Just type '''about:config''' in location (address) bar
Right-click on the '''about:config''' page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: '''network.manage-offline-status'''
    Value: '''false'''

  • Computer hacked? accidentally in someone's network?

look so Im new to macs, so having grown up on PCs I'm not sure what else to think of this.
I went to youtube.com and instead of being logged into my account, it was "belfortie" some other person. I'm leaching off of someone else's wireless, could I be hooked into their actual "network?"
at the time I was also downloading videos from users, (when I was installing one, a WMV file, my mac said that the file "may contain an application").
sorry long winded. I'd appreciate any help. I'm so lost
(also firefox quit working and keeps looking like its gone into "no style" mode. dont even get me started on that...)

YouTube - sounds like some prior YouTube'r accessed from your computer (nothing to do with network, nor Apple vs PC) and left their ID in a cookie on your computer. When you get to YouTube, look for an option to "Sign out" or "Log off" or something like that, and then sign back in with your User-ID.
Firefox - Are you sure you're not getting into the default Apple browser, Safari? Safari is initially the default browser, so if that's not been changed, any application that invokes web browsing will bring up Safari by default. There's a place in Safari preferences (Cmd-,) to select which browser is the default. I've been using Firefox for a while and haven't had a problem, other than what I just described.
"May contain an application" is a general warning to you that the file MAY have some suspicious malware (aka virus) content. Unless you have reason to be suspicious dismiss it and ignore. I don't believe a .wmv file should be contain an application but those files could well be hiding a Windows virus of some sort - good news is, unless you're running in Windows on your Mac, the virus won't function so you're safe. Another of the joys of Apples.
Leaching wireless access - in today's world, if someone is running an unprotected wireless net, I'd think they're okay with sharing and not worry about it. However, that leaves open the possibility that other person can access the contents of your computer. Be sure your Firewall is turned on in the Sharing control panel and File Sharing is turned off, and that you have set a password on your user Account. (And I figure it's inappropriate for anyone here to remark about what you might or might not be downloading.)
Don't give up on Apples, it truly is a better way!

  • Het startscherm is waarschijnlijk niet van Firefox the opening window is probably not from firefox is my computer hacked?

ik heb gisteren het programma zoomit geïnstalleerd (vergrootglas). Ondertussen heb ik alles zo goed mogelijk weer verwijderd maar volgens mij heb ik het originele firefox-startscherm niet meer
waar vroeger Google stond staat nu Google default. Ik heb met het knipprogramma van windows een kopie van mijn startscherm gemaakt.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • Do I need to change main computer password if a friend was hacked into on their e-mail?

A friend had computer hacked into.  An e-mail had been sent to me to open.  I clicked on the e-mail but it wanted me to subscrie to a site and I didn't.  I changed my e-mail password, but I have a homegroup and password there as well as the main password to get into my computer.  Do I need to change those?
    Thank you.

    Connie, welcome to the forum.
The experts recommend that you change all of your passwords at least monthly.  I don't know anyone who does this, but it certainly can save alot of grief.  Therefore, change your passwords if you feel uncomfortable.  The main password for the computer won't stop intrusions from emails, however.
I actually had my email account hijacked.  This is a pain because whomever did it sent SPAM to everyone in my Contacts list every day.  My Contacts wondered if I had lost my mind.  Microsoft finally locked my account and had me jump through hoops to get it unlocked.  The main thing that I had to do was change my password.

  • Mac Mail hacked FIVE times!

I've had the same e-mail address for over twelve years and I'd never been hacked (or whatever it's called when everyone in your address book receives spam from you) until six months ago, when I bought a Macbook Pro and started using Mac Mail. Since then, my e-mail has been hacked five times. Each time, I've immediately changed my password to at least twenty random symbols, numbers, and upper and lowercase letters. It makes no difference; the e-mail address I use with Mac Mail still spams all and sundry.
What is going on? Is the culprit the Mac Mail program or could the computer itself be compromised? I bought the Mac with Windows without Outlook because Mac Mail seemed like a comparable substitute. Now I'm tempted to purchase the Outlook add-on to see if I still get hacked using it. What else can I do? No other family members (all on Dells or Acers) are having this problem and Verizon says the connection is secure. Any ideas are appreciated!

when everyone in your address book receives spam from you
This is most often caused by someone else's computer getting hacked, getting their Address Book compromised, and disclosing your email Address.
The spammer then sends FAKE emails, tagged with your email address as the sender.
In this case, NOTHING about your Mac, or your email account has been compromised at all. Someone's compromised computer is sending spam and inserting your email address in the Sender field.
I had this experience, and it turned out to be a computer of someone I had bought something from on eBay, years before, had their computer hacked. My address was in their Address Book, so his computer sent out emails with my name as Sender.
If you can get a receiver to show full headers, then cut-and-paste that text into a new email and send it to you, that can be analyzed to determine the actual sender.
Or a computer-savvy friend can look at the full headers and see who the actual sender is.

    pls. suggest any permanent solution.

    Hi,
    at last known good configuration.
after you have access to the OS level. possible to click start > run > type eventvwr
check on the systems and application logs for errors.
have you try systems restore ? if not maybe you might want to check if you have any systems restore point ?
systems restore might be able to help u to get away with this problem.
But if u dont have any restore point. Then i will suggest you to back up all your data and do a clean setup, by reinstalling windows 7.
