Is my graphics card burned out?

I have a 15 inch aluminum unibody macbook pro
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB (switchable graphics)
I run boot camp regularly to play video games on windows 7.
I was playing a video game on mac today and it kept crashing my computer, so I loaded up bootcamp to play another game and the following happened to me a few times: http://imgur.com/a/FLqf7#0
I haven't played any graphic intensive game on the mac since then, but everything is fine and nothing messes up when I'm watching videos, music, etc.
On boot camp, i think it's running the video card the whole time? not quite sure, but I guess the main question is if my graphics card is burned out?
Any help or advice is very much appreciated!
Thanks,
dizzyxmoron

All in all, at least you got a definitive resolution. If you have a suitable backup, the only annoyance will be that of time spent.
Rereading your first post, I understand that the system was booting up. Maybe do a clone on an external drive before turning the old drive in? Then install afresh with a new Lion instance and migrate all back in, either with Setup Assistant at first start or Migration Assistant afterwards.

  • Mega 180/Media Player/Graphic Card/TV-Out

    Hi,
after very long research I decided to use Mega 180 as a dedicated PC for media center purpose and to connect it directly to my TV (Siemens 100 Hz real flat 16:9) and to upgrade my second PC and to connect the two PCs wirelesly and to use Media Portal software.
And then I have started to read related posts and forums. But this time I learned that there are new issues I have to deal with.
    1. TV-out: The TV-Out of Mega 180 is not good enough on a TV. My question is do I have to buy another powerful graphic card? I need recommendation. My TV has composite and scart inputs.
    2. Media Portal: This software has lack of some features. If I use MCE 2005, will it be better?
    3. If I use a video converter, will it help me to find better picture on my TV?
Yes bodies, unfortunately there is no way to find the best solution. And I am at the final stage. If this solution does not run, I will give up.   I need your recommendations.

This is copied from another reply I made today. The Mega 180 can drive a TV just fine. But you need to spend alot of time making it work.
How you hook up to your TV depends on your available TV connections and your quality standard. The Mega 180 does have an SVideo output. I don't use this however. I have a VGA input port on my 42 inch plasma monitor. It accepts VGA 640 X 480, 800 x 600, or 1024 X 768 standard computer resolutions. It also accepts 480P or 1080i TV inputs using the VGA port. Many quality TV monitors have a DVI port or component video. These would require some sort of physical adapter to attach to a Mega PC.
So I actually run in 1080i mode most of the time. This makes DVD's and HDTV look really nice. When using the XP computer screen I keep it in 1080i mode but map this to 960 X 540 resolution using PowerStrip. This way I can read the text on the display without it being distorted. However this is pretty low resolution for most web browsers and email programs. So it is kind of cramped... When playing computer games I switch to 1024 X 768 computer mode. The good thing is the on board Nvidia MX440 graphics work just fine to generate all these modes. So I do not have a card in the AGP slot.

  • Pavilion Dv9548 graphics card went out need help!

Was told by geek squid at best buy that it possibley comes with an extra slot for a new graphics card if the main went out was hoping someone can give me info about it and if so can post a link for which card ill need

Wrong answer Geek Squid. No, sorry. The video card is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced. The motherboard can be replaced, or the video card can be repaired by a reflow. Geek Squid would have no idea what that is.
The dv9000 series with nVidia video has had massive failure rates. There is no good or reliable fix, just temporary patches. The best advice is to cut your losses and buy a new laptop. Again, sorry.

  • Graphics Card Swap Outs

PCs using MS operating systems can just swap out graphics cards. I want to buy the 17" MacBook Pro, but want the ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 instead of the 1600 currently packaged in the system so I can game as well as use it for business.
Question: Can you just swap out the 1600 and replace it with the 1800, or is the proprietary system too inflexible to allow that? A wantabee Mac owner.....

I want to get a 17" macbook pro with an upgraded ATI card, the 1800 or the 1900 - but there is NO WAY TO TALK TO TECHS! It is not a hard switch, bet there is no special requirements as it is just a faster model that fits in the same PCI express slot. I want someone IN THE TECH DEPARTMENT to tell me that the Mac is so propriety that it is totally inflexible to make that adjustment. OR, tell me that the new operating system 17" will have the new 1800 or 1900 ATI card - I will wait to buy then. Otherwise, I will go get the Dell 2010 that has the 1800 already in it (BUT i WILL NOT BE HAPPY ABOUT THE BUY.) By the way - it was your own sales agent at an Apple store that told me the 1600 was a dog compared to the 1800.....

  • I think my graphics card went out?

Ok I looked for about an hour and found nothing on this. I just bought a power mac G5 with dual 2.0gig processors and 4 gigs of ram. It has 8 ram slots. I think its early 05. Anyway I used it for about a day I had it plugged in to my monitor which has a vga and a dvi port on it. I had the vga plugged into my g4 but I didnt have a power cable or anything else plugged in it. I dont know why but it was. I had my G5 plugged in the dvi. It worked fine. The next day I decided I want to move the G5 to the other side of the room. I shut the computer down unplugged everything moved it and put it back together, but I didnt plug in the G4 cause Like I said I didnt know it was like that till I saw it. Tried to start it and the screen just says no cable attached. I went and bought a DVI to HDMI to plug it into my flat panel TV and same thing. I noticed when I turned it on it bongs, all the lights are normal, but the fans slowly start speeding up after a few mins. I guess its the AGP card if you know for a fact it is and could recemend a good graphics card that could drive two 20" apple cinema displays for normal use and could drive one monitor with really good graphics for games and stuff that would be great oh and It cant be more than like $200 - 250 if possible.
    Thank you!

thanks again japamac. I tried that though. I grounded myself, took the card out reseated it. I even got dust remover and dusted the slot and the card. This really *****.

  • Graphics card blinks out while Front Row is in use

I have a Dual Core Mac Mini and works fine while I'm on my desktop working, iTunes and other programs but when I use Front Row to watch Podcasts, Movies etc. it blinks out on me and seems to like go to sleep on me and when I press a button on the remote it wakes up and for a few seconds keeps a live image and then blinks out again.
Any help or known issues? thank you! - JRider

I've been having the same issue but maybe slightly different. I have a Mac Mini and an InFocus X1A projector. When Im working on the Mac everything is beautiful, but when I go into Front Row, beyond the first menu, the image blinks and the projector seems to have trouble holding the resolution signal; frequently goes blank and reports the resolution of the Mini and after 2-3 seconds go back to the image. Any thoughts? I upgraded to the latest, 10.5.1 and I wonder if there's an issue there with that.
    Thanks very much

  • Iq771 inactive graphics card and no help from hp!!!

My iq771 is dead.  I took it to pc world as it is out of warranty and after a hardware diagnostics test they told me there was a problem with the graphics card either broken or inactive.
I called the hp support line and after great difficultly was given an out of warranty repair service that hp utilise.  I explained what had happened and they told me that they had been informed by hp escalation complaints service that they no longer supported the graphics card or screen on the touchsmart iq771.  It was irrepairable.  They gave me the name of the manager at escalation complaints, Grant Cyster, and after many calls and reassurances that they would call me back, i have yet to hear from them.
I have an iq771 that is three years two months old, it cost £1099, and it is now irrepairable.  Surely this machine is not fit for purpose!!
    Any advice greatly appreciated
    Techno b

hey hope this gets to you before you trash it.   If the machine powers on and you hear no beeps you are in good shape.
There is a known issue ( at least with the community, hp will never admit ) with the nvidia 7600 go graphics card burning out on this unit.  luckily the motherboard comes with a built in nvidia 6150 go, you just have to switch the right cable to it.  now getting to it is hell on this computer if you have never opened it before.
I will not go into how to remove the back cover in front of the HD and the bottom panel, as HP has these on their website under how to change the Memory and hard drive on this unit.     The real tricky part to this operation is that there are two hidden screws on the bottom right front of the unit under a sticker.  the sticker doesnt actually look like a sticker, its the label for the front audio and usb inputs.  after these are out and you have removed the optical drive and one screw on the right side close to the bezel, the plastic assembly should slide out giving you access to the graphics card and processor.
You dont actually have to remove the burned out card, you just need to look for a pinout and cable labeled lsvd1 and lsvd2 (not sure if that's the exact name but its close)
which should be located on the left side in the front.  switch the cable to lsvd2 and you are done.  reset the bios if you have not already and it should come up.    do a reinstall from system recovery if you still have the original hard drive

  • Reinstall a MacBook Pro with a dead graphics card?

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro 17 Inch. Its graphics card died. I want to do a clean install of OS X Mavericks. However, if I do this, screen sharing will go off, and I will be blind during the installation. How can I do a clean install?
If I connnect the hard drive externally, then it will get the wrong drivers during the installation, if I do it via Target Disk Mode, same thing.
I have a 2007 MacBook Pro 15 Inch. I know the drivers will be closer on this, but will they be the exact same?
Is voiceover during the installation good enough to navigate blindly? If it is, I could just go blind, and once its set up use voiceover to turn screen sharing on. I know voiceover will suffice once it is up and running to get screen sharing on. (I did it that way when the graphics card went out initially)
Is voiceover during the installation good enough to navigate blindly?
I am going to use this as a server, and I want to make absolutely sure that everything that I didn't put on is off.
    It is already backed up.

I purchased my MacBook Pro that way last year (180 days same as cash). They were pretty slow approving the card even though I have good credit. I payed very close attention to the dates and made sure all was paid off before the end of the 180 days and had no issues. I was also careful about not charging anything else to the card until I paid off the MBP, gets a lot harder to understand and control what they consider the promotional amount paid when you start mixing in other purchases and payments for those.
For me it worked out great, Almost 6 months to pay is better than 1 big hit.

  • PCIe Graphics Card with Magma T/Bolt Expansion box

Does anyone here have a good or bad experience with the Radeon 5770 or 5870 cards used in a Magma Thunderbolt expansion box in conunction with a MacMini?
I'm looking to purchase a graphics card to go into my Magma box, but not sure which card will be supported in this configuration.
    Thanks,
    NE

I have seen a couple people were unable to boot OS X if they had an Nvidia 8800 installed. You'll need something that OS X can see IF you want to see early bootup messages (such as Vista startup options).
Can't say I've seen a message with "Marox" mentioned. So only way to know for certain is old trial and error.
There are newer graphics cards coming out. There is the Radeon X1900 (which is over-due for an update), and the Nvidia 8600 GTS series works in Vista and at least doesn't block OS X from working, but is only a step above X1900.
Apple sells a $1600 Nvidia for 3D. And as you can see, graphics options is a "weak spot."

  • Which graphics card for G4 MDD and 30" display?

    Hi folks,
I would really appreciate any help with this as I am confused by what graphics cards are out there. I have a G4 MDD dual 867, 1.75GB RAM, which currently has an NVIDIA GeForce4MX (32MB VRAM) in its AGP slot and an old ATI card (32MB VRAM) in a PCI slot. Each card is driving a 17" Dell CRT display. Not brilliant for a freelance illustrator but it does the job for now....
I really want to get a 30" Cinema display (I am a scientific illustrator working digitally for print, using Photoshop & Illustrator mainly) but I don't know what graphics card I can get that will work in my Mac (it has 3 free PCI slots, but not PCI Express) and reliably support the 30" display at a suitable resolution. I have been trying to research this but have got stumped by the options. I asked in the London Apple Store but they implied I would be better off getting a whole new Mac... rather not spend quite that much money at the moment.
Or would I be better off getting two 23" displays? Which cards can run these in my Mac?
Any help gratefully received - thank you!
    Debbie.

    Hi Debbie-
You can support a 30" Cinema Display with a graphics card that has a dual link DVI output. The ATI Radeon 9600 Pro PC and Mac version has a dual link DVI and will work in your 4x AGP MDD.
The 9600 has two DVI ports, so it will also allow use of two 23" Cinema Displays, without adapters.

  • Graphics Card and RAM ???

Hi, i Have a HP mediacenter Pavilion a1606n, i am a bigg gamer but my computer sucks at plaing most new games, i suspect that the Graphics card is out dated, or i dont have enough RAM, but when ever i play a game (ex. Hitman Blood Money) it is very slow and does not display any of the walls or floors (this is with the settings set on low), what can i do to make my computer play games better???

Graphics card and RAM are the two components to upgrade when you're looking to play games. I checked the specs on your computer - you have a PCI Express x16 slot, which means you can use any of the most recent graphics cards in this particular system. You also may want to pick up some DDR2 RAM to upgrade the memory. And depending on which graphics card you upgrade to, you may also need a new power supply as well. Most Best Buy stores carry all of those components, so head to the store (you can bring your computer with you if you'd like Geek Squad to install the parts for you) and ask a Geek Squad Agent for advice on what to do with your computer.

  • G4 MDD  - Graphics Card. Replacement

Well, The G4 Mirror Door 1ghz Graphics card went out yesterday, and I need to find a replacement.
I can still boot, login over the network.. Just that there is no out put from the graphics card.. Tested the display with my G5 and it works fine..
Are there any upgrade options for the G4- its old card is the ATI 128mb,
What cards are compatible and do any still have a ADC out port?
    Thanks

    Hi-
For ADC, you will need to look for a used nVidia GeForce4 MX, GeForce4 Ti, or ATI Radeon 9000.
These are the three cards that were offered with the MDD with ADC support.
The Radeon 9800 Pro models that have ADC support are 8x AGP specific for G5 towers.

Look in your Applications folder.  If your system behaved as expected, you should have an iMovie 9.0 folder in your Applications folder.  Apple moved the old version there as even they suspected the new versions was a train wreck.
