Is my I-Phone keeping track of it's location, and logging this information?.

Yes, iOS4 does keep a file on the device that keeps a list of locations where the phone was. This is not a second by second list, however it does seem to give a fairly reasonable track of locations over time. There is no evidence that this file is being accessed by Apple or anyone else remotely. However, when you back up your phone via iTunes to a computer, the file with the locations is included in the backup, and can be accessed from the computer by anyone who has access to the computer. Any computer you sync your iPhone to will have a copy of the file on it.
If you choose to have encrypted backups via iTunes, then the file (along with the rest of your iPhone backup files) would be encrypted/password protected.
I am not sure this is something that would worry most people, or ever actually affect them, but one should at least be aware that the file exists..

Phone tracking applications

Hello everybody.
I am looking for a phone tracking application. What I want is this: a small phone app for my N96 that sends my GPS location to a server or a site via the cell network (don't worry, I have a flatrate for data upload and download) and i want to be able for other people to see where I am and where I was (trail) by just going to a website, without having to log in.
I tried phonelocator.mobi, but I can't register on the site and i don't get a reply for the support email I send them.
It would be great that maps 3.0 had this feature, but the problem will be that only OVI users can see where I am; same problem with Google Latitude: only my "gmail" contacts can see where i am, and, as I don't use Gmail and as such i don't have Gmail friends, nobody can see it.
I'd maybe even like to pay for it if it's not too expensive and works well.
Does anybody know about an app like this?

Phone tracking software?? E71

Which appliaction can i install on my E71 for tracking my phone in case it gets lost. Preferably a freeware...Coz Samsung comes with its own phone tracking software...and if i'm not wrong Airtel & MTNL networks provide with their own phone tracking softwares downloadable free...But i'm using a Vodafone connection...but apparently Vodafone doesn't provide any...so which could be a good phone tracking software which sends a message whenever a new sim in put in giving its details and IMEI to the number pre-assigned and also locks the phone which can only be unlocked using a password thereby also securing data.
I'm concerned coz i have lost a couple of phones before this and the data as well along with it. So some good advice will be really appreciated.

I have not seen any tracking software for any Nokia handset that is "in built"
The only thing that comes close is the remote locking function for the E71, then it can be pretty limited, because the locking code needs to be sent to the handset, with your SIM card in because your SIM will be the only one that you actually know the number of, if the SIM is changed or the phone is found and powered off then it wont be able to receive the locking message, on first activation of this function the phone will encrypt your memory card with a random and unknown password, therefore I suggest that you first set the encryption on the memory card with a password that you know otherwise it will present problems in the future.

When you send a locking message the phone will respond with a message telling you that it has carried out the task. In that instance you will know it has been locked out by anyone that finds it.
If you dont get that message then your phone is gone forever most likely.

Ran DIsk Utility on the boot drive to repair permissions only.
We need to Verify the Boot HD first & Repair if needed.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

You can erase your phone. That's really your only option. You can reboot it while holding down the home button and it should go into DFU mode.
You also must reset your Apple ID password. Hopefully you have a good backup, and you should use better passwords and/or get better friends.

Does anyone know how to get a refund from this company? I recently downloaded this app (for 99 cents) which claims it can "Locate any cellphone in the world, on any network, anywhere in the world...". I believe this is a scam. It only tracks the phone in which it's installed. It doesn't matter what phone number you put in, it will always just give you the approximate location of your own phone. Astonishingly, several people who have downloaded this app have given this 3-4 stars despite its lack of any other functionality. I know it only cost me 99 cents, but multiply that by the hundreds of thousands who may have bought this, and it becomes real money for them. I refuse to encourage scammers. Can I just contest the charge on my Apple iTunes account? Has anyone had any experience trying to get a refund for an app bought on the Apple app store? Help!

Not the first time I have heard complaints from Apps like this, but it comes down to a case of not fully reading the app description...
Granted the developer does make the description seem like a legit app, but it does say the following:
- "Get the exact location of the phone (yours!) that you are tracking
- "For entertainment purposes only."
Also there is no way to track down the exact location of any cell phone with just a phone number, so any app that says it can do that won't.
As far as a refund goes you can try the iTunes store, as well as contacting the developer.

When trying to locate my iphone, find my phone is tracking someone's phone other than mine. I did have an iphone stolen about two years ago. Anyway, I need to be able to track my phone.

How fast or often will i see where it is? Can i watch it move to follow it track?

There is no set time, apparently, because sometimes it can take hours for the data to appear. Find My Phone only saves locations for 24 hours then replaces them with the next 24 hours, etc.

only way is to in advance install the find my phone app and add the phone with the free mobileMe mail find my phone service
and even then it only works until somebody restore the phone to factory default
so if you didn't add the find my phone setup then you can't
if you did then the find my phone website will show it's location on a map
