Is my ipad vulnerable to attacks on a public wifi

If I'm in a local coffee shop using thier public wifi, what are the chances someone can hack the info from my ipad.

Attacking the iPad is not a serious problem, however sending information, including passwords, in an unencrypted form on unsecure public sites is dangerous.  Make sure you are connecting to encrypted, secure sites, such as those using https.

  • Can the iPad get a virus using a public WiFi?

If I went to a public WiFi spot (airport, hotels, McDonalds, etc.) can my iPad get hit with a virus being that it's not protected with an antivirus?

No, it cannot. The iPad is a closed system and you cannot download the types of things that would normally infect a windows computer.

  • My iPad 2 won't connect to Public Wifi Networks

So a few weeks ago I was at a cafe and tried to connect my iPad 2 to the wifi network of the cafe with no avail. I have tried rebooting multiple times, resetting network settings a couple of times, have tried most about anything but my iPad will only connect if I'm standing next to a router. Even then the signal that it's receiving it's not full. I don't know why this is happening please can someone help me out? It's really frustrating!!!

    Have you tried ....
    Rebooting your router?
Turning WiFi off and then on again?
Settings>WiFi>Network name>Forget this network?  Find the network again, tap on it, enter the password?
Settings>General>Reset>ResetNetwork Settings? Find your network again, tap on it, enter the password?
Restart the iPad? Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • BusinessObjects security flaw left users vulnerable to attack

Audit found this web article "BusinessObjects security flaw left users vulnerable to attack" http://searchsap.techtarget.com/news/2240025968/BusinessObjects-security-flaw-left-users-vulnerable-to-attack?asrc=EM_NLN_13056439&track=NL-137&ad=804092
and they were wondering if our installation of BusinessObjects was also vulnerable. I was not able to answer for sure, so I asked our BASIS team. They said that it is not clear from the article what components are actually affected or in what patch level this is corrected.
Does anyone know specifically where the security flaw is?

    Hi Denis
    thanks for the reply.
Are you absolutely sure that the passage should not be in the file any more?
I've checked now 3 different installations and I've even checked the axis2.xml in the war files I found (dated 04/22/2010) and they all do contain these two lines:
        <parameter name="userName">admin</parameter>
        <parameter name="password">axis2</parameter>
The installation were BOXI 3.1 SP3, meaning we used the "merged" installation files that include the SP3. One of the installations I checked has even Fix Pack 3.4 installed.
The only axis2.xml file I found that did not contain this passage was from a BODI  installation...
    am I missing something here?
    thanks for any help!

  • On 3G we cannot send emails from either our iPhones or iPad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Email account.  What is causing this and what do we need to do to resolve it?

On 3G we cannot send  Business emails from either our iPhones or Ipad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Account using both 3G and WiFi.
We bought the iPhones and Ipad so that we could send emails while we are out of the Office, but we are not able to do this unless we can find a WiFi connection. Incoming emails are fine.  We use IMAP, for Business emails just incase this is relevant and I know that Hotmail is POP3.
Our technical IT knowledge is not great, so we look forward to your suggestions as to how to resolve this.

Contact whomever supports the email account and get the correct Outgoing email server settings from them.

  • Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old.

Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old. It;s been working perfectly up until now.  I have no problem on my home WIFI, or through personal hotspot working through my iPhone 5.
I have worked with AT&T, replaced the SIM card with a new one, and done a backup/restore to factory settings, all with the same result that when I turn Cellular
Data on, with or without Enable LTE, it goes into "searching" mode, or reports "no service".  My iPhone 5 works perfectly on iOS 8.1.2, on Cellular.  I've browsed the blogs and have tried Apple's suggested fix, all to no result.
Oddly enough, every once in a while I do get connected to the network for a short ime (minutes), but it always returns to "searching".
I've filed a report with Apple, along with a request that they contact me, but no results yet.
    Help? (and thank you).

Hello razmee209.  Thank you for your response.  I spent the better part of yesterday working with Apple Support.  They tried their best, to include backing up photos to my HP laptop, backing up the iPad to iCloud, then resetting the iPad in total.  Same problem.  I restored from the cloud to recover my apps, same problem.
AT&T installed a new sim card - same problem.  I spent time with AT&T Support yesterday, too.  In both cases, (Apple and AT&T) the support techs who worked with me were extremely polite, courteous and helpful to the best of their abilities, but I think the problem lies deeper, and nobody at Apple is admitting they have a problem with iOS 8, that I'm aware of.
I didn't have this issue before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2.
Everything else with the iPad works fine:  WIFI, Personal Hotspot, email, all my apps, etc.
In browsing the web for this issue I see that many other folks have the same problem.  I filed a report with Apple this morning, requesting that they contact me, but no word yet.  I was going to go to iPhone 6, and had been considering the iPad Air 2, but I see reports of this problem with those units as well.
At this point I don't think I'll be spending any more money with Apple, at least not till this issue is resolved.
Thanks again for your response and suggestions.

  • After connecting to Bluetooth keyboard, iPad 2 will not connect to Internet (wifi) at all. Wifi is ok, have tried turning off bltooth, wifi on iPad. It sees the network but won't connect.  Help?  Have also reset network settings etc

My iPad wifi was working great until I I connected it by Bluetooth to a keyboard (zagg).  It was the first time I'd used Bluetooth
Immediately Internet was dropped on my ipad. My iPhone was and is still connected no prob. And I cannot get the iPad wifi to work again....at all!!!
This is major as I am away from my desktop for three months.  Any fix cannot involve being at my desktop with iTunes which is 10,000 km away
So far This is what I've tried based on other discussions-
-turned Bluetooth off and unpaired to keyboard which was also turned off
    - turned iPad wifi off and on (several times)
    - forgot the network I useArrive Jul 19 depart Aug 25th. Originally it was Sept 9.
    -- reset network settings
What happens is that the iPad sees the network and I enter my password. But, instead of getting "check mark" indicating a successful connections it keeps "circling".  Sometimes the airport bars will show, but disappear or flicker.  It never connects with a check noted in settings.   Any attempts to use internet confirm there is no connection
My network is not a cafe or public network. It is one I regularly use here at my family's home where I am visiting
    Any ideas!

my macbook pro is connected to internet via my time capsule but my iPad and iPhone won't. it shows wifi connection to the time capsule but when i go on to the internet on the iPad or iPhone, it comes up with network error. can anyone help?

This can be caused by a number of issues.
Was everything working and then suddenly stopped??
Or is this a new clean setup and has never worked.
Do you have a cable modem which is not a router and the TC setup in bridge? That will cause it. The TC must be in router mode, ie dhcp and nat.
Check the IP the MBP gets including dns and gateway..
Then check the ipad/iphone.. post what IP dns and gateway (router in applespeak) they get.

HP Laser JET 1536 dnf MFP connect to one of this routers (copper).
Second device (my NETBOOK) connect to second router (WiFi).
I have good communication between NETBOOK and HP Laser JET 1536 dnf MFP via WiFI-bridge.
In usual case NETBOOK can find (and can Ping) network printer and make a print some files.

  • IPad shows it it is connected to WiFi but it isn't (nothing will load)

Just accidentally updated my iPad to iOS 7.1.1. Started it up and tried to connect to WiFi. Correct password and the WiFi is working for all different devices, and the iPad appears to connect to it successfully. The icon is there and everything. It's found the IP Address, Router, etc. etc.
However, absolutely nothing will load (not Safari, App Store, anything). It's not a problem with WiFi - all three of my computers and my phone can connect to this WiFi, it's just my newly updated iPad.
There are no addons and no this and that. I restored factory settings. No backups or anything.
    I have:
    1) Restarted my router,
    2) Restarted my iPad,
    3) Dropped my iPad into Recovery Mode and restored it to factory settings and tried again,
    4) Dropped my iPad into DFU Mode and restored it to factory settings and tried again,
    5) Turned off my iPad and tried again,
    6) Turned off my WiFi and tried again,
    7) Reset Network Settings and tried again,
    8) Turned off HTTP Proxy and tried again,
    9) Forgotten the Network and tried again.
So if one of your solutions is one of the nine above, please don't bother answering me.
    Thank you,

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • My new iPad Mini seems to time-out the WiFi connection?

I've had an iPad One for a year or two and recently bought iPad Minis for myself and the SO. It's happened quite a few times now that I can be using the WiFi connection, and set the iPad aside for a few minutes, and when I come-back to it the WiFi connection is gone (the icon goes away at the top-left of the screen). I have to then go to Settings Wifi and select my connection again. I don't recall this ever happening with the iPad 1.
I don't see any specific setting for "turn-off WiFi after x minutes" or whatnot and wonder why the iPad is dropping signal (a very strong signal, a very fast connection in my house). Is there a setting some where that says "turn off WiFi", for example after X minutes to save power or something?
This is a real annoyance cuz I can be reading an article online and then when I come-back to it I see "no Internet connection" and I have to go to Settings again to re-select my SSID.

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
