Is my iphone 5 legit?

please help...
i recently bought an iphone 5 which a friend offered me when she was in korea..when i got the phone i noticed the back panel of my phone says: kcc-cmm-apa-a1429..should i worry? is my iphone 5 legit? it works on itunes etc and i was able to confirm the apple warranty through serial number of the phone. kinldy help. im from the philippines.

I tried that site earlier today and it accepted the serial number and even gave me a full run down on the phone.  But it said it was black, not white.  Every other similar non-apple site I have tried says the same thing.  I cannot see the spec again because after I entered the serial number of my previous iphone, it said I could only look up 2 phones in a 24 hour period.  But I tried again now and it just says service and warranty expired which makes sense because it was built back in October 2012. I checked the IMEI number on other sites and it also checks out but again says black, not white. Still confused!

  • How can I verify that my iPhone is legit.

    Unfortunately I am in a country that does not have an official apple store.
    There are many "authorized" resellers, but when you purchase from them the box is always open, and they claim that the phones are "factory" unlocked.
    There are even some phone service providers who offer the phone, but the quality of hardware again looks suspect.
    The phones always look dirty, and I fear that they could have loaded all kinds of junk on it.

    Here's a list of authorized iPhone wireless carriers:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
    If I were someone that did not have any Apple stores, purchasing from an authorized source, on that list, is the only place I'd buy from. The fact that these boxes have been opened pretty much assures you that these phones have been hacked.

  • Itunes can't see iphone

    Hey gang - so I have an iPhone 4 (legit and uptodate) and once a week itunes can no longer see it when its connected to my MBP.
    I read on the Apple Support site that this can be fixed by re-installing iTunes - now this does fix the problem.
    Until a week later when I have to do this again - can anyone help me out with a more permanent fix?

    There are a few problems with this, it extends to the iPad as well.
    I can only suggest this troubleshooter : http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes
    However if you're re-insatlling iTunes once a week could be a something a little more serious...

  • Another question about iPhones and malware/virus

    Thought I would post this as a separate question.
    iPhone 4s. legit (not jail broke)
    I know the iOS is pretty protected against virus and malware.  And that you cannot download things onto the phone other than through the app store
    But what about what they call drive by downloads? Where you go to a web page and it automatically installs something without asking?

    thanks all. This is so freaky to me. If the iOS is so safe, why doesnt every PC use it?  And I dont mean that sarcastically
    It's very safe but it also puts very severe limits on what the user can do to tweak the OS and on things that applications can do. For example, most people would balk at only being able to by applications for their computer from one approved source. In fact, a lot of people don't like that about iPhones. Some people prefer freedom to modify their device to security.
    In fact, the Mac OS, which historically been less prone to viruses is adopting some of the feature of iOS.

  • The Absolute End Of My Tether - I GIVE UP !!!!!  Trying to update to 7.6.2

    OK here goes........
    1.Tried to update a perfectly functioning older iTunes because of the prompt.
    2.When attempting to run the download I almost immediately get the message:
    "ITUNES INSTALLER COMPLETED.
    THE INSTALLER ENCOUNTERED ERRORS BEFORE ITUNES COULD BE CONFIGURED.
    TO RETRY THESE OPERATIONS AT A LATER TIME , PLEASE RUN THE INSTALLER AGAIN."
    3.Following recommendations from this website, I uninstall previous version of iTunes COMPLETELY and previous versions of quicktime COMPLETELY. TEMP FILES ALSO REMOVED.
    4.Same problem, same error message.
    5.Repeated points 3 ad infinitum. To no avail
    6.After much anger and frustration, I manually install [usbaapl.sys] driver into the C:windows/system32/drivers folder and this seems to install okay. I could not find the Apple mobile media driver anywhere. Howeverthis doesn't make a blind bit of difference.
    7 THE PIECE DE RESISTANCE: I REFORMAT the hard drive because I'm getting so frustrated. Once I'm back up and running I try to install iTunes 7.6.2. I STILL GET THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE!!!!!Unbelieveable.
    8. I find an earlier version of itunes and quicktime from Hippo, and these install fine but are completely useless when it comes to connecting an iphone. I get messages to update the iTunes.
    9.I have tried Registry repair, MSCONFIG etc - no joy
    10 Device manager originally showed iPhone as an imaging device but following manual [usbaapl.sys] driver install, it is shown as a USB device in D.M. The newer iTunes still fails to install.
    10 I have followed almost every piece of advice here and I still get the same message.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MY QUESTIONS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    1. How can such a problem persist even after a REFORMAT ?? I am obviously not alone in this problem. Please, Please, Please if anyone out there knows a solution to this stupid annoying problem, please post it.
    2. Having paid for 3 ipods and an iPhone [all legit and above board hardware] I am stuck with useless products unless I can get the software working?
    Old versions of QT will open but not the latest couple which won't install let alone open.
    Have used latest windows installer as well as the 3.1 Cleanup utility to remove any leftovers prior to re-installing.
    I can install and all QT and IT apps as follows:
    quicktime no later than 7.3
    itunes no later than 7.5
    neither support iphone as I get a message when opening up the 7.5 vers of itunes saying that the phone is not supported.
    I then have the option of updating.
    I usually then use all the tools to uninstall any trace of Apple software and then try to re-install the later version and get the same error message!
    SURELY an update should just install and update without any grief let alone what I'm going through. BTW 'they' have removed another post.
    Any ideas?
    Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
    ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
  • Found a dead spider in my charging port (iphone 4) this morning. Now phone wont charge at all... What can I do? It's now all totally cleared of lint and legs :/
    This morning my phone wouldnt charge, I tried three different charging cables. They are lighting up to show they are working, but the phone does not charge or show a symbol or connect to the computer.
    So i cleaned out the lint from inside the charging port. and inside all the chargers, some of them were new off the shelf so would not be the problem.
    I found a dead spider inside the port. Have blown into it, thoroughly cleaned with a needle any debris and fluff and spider legs etc...
    It still wont charge. I have ten percent battery... it's off for now. It is not covered for a chat with apple at all, unless i pay $40 which is crazy expensive.
    Any ideas of what to do to save this phone? Obviously i cant back it up because it wont plug in to anything.
    For now it is not on charge, just trying to let it dry out.
    Probably i squashed this spider when plugging it in. therefore there could be spider guts all ruining the inside? I don't know how the ports are made. Up until not charging
    there were no issues at all.
    Hi lisellemono1,
    I'm sorry to hear you are having charging issues with your iPhone; I know how frustrating that can be. Based on your description and the possibility that there may be other debris or residue still in the charging port, you may need to have your iPhone evaluated or serviced.     Generally, that means the phone has been jailbroken (hacked). You can try restoring it as new using iTunes. Beyond that, there's really nothing we can advise as jailbroken phones can't be supported on these forums.
    I recently just bought a iphone 4 im happy with the product and it didnt cost an arm and a leg but i was wondering when the iphone 4 will become obsolete as in not receaving updates anymore etc
    Keep in mind that just because a device may not be upgradeable to the latest iOS release does not mean it cannot continue to work just fine on the last update it did get.  There will be many devices that were incompatible with iOS 7 that will continuing to work just fine on iOS 6 for a long time yet.  There are many people still using their iPad 1 despite the fact it stopped getting iOS updates after iOS 5.1.1.
    One way to safeguard your apps against future incompatible versions is to keep a backup of all your apps in iTunes on your computer.  That way, if an update to the app comes out that is not backwards compatible with your iOS, you still have a copy of the last version of the app that was compatible with your device and your iOS release.
  • IOS7 keyboard glitch on swapped iPhone - is it safe/legit?
    The screen on my girlfriend's iPhone 5s recently broke (shattered), and she went to an Apple store to see if she could get it repaired. Instead of repairing the phone, one of the employees gave her a replacement phone right there on the spot. She was super excited, understandably, and told me about her good luck.
    Then a few hours later she messaged me a screenshot showing me that she had a glitch on her keyboard. In the first screenshot you can see some noise over the space key. In the second screenshot there's the same noise over the return key in the bottom right corner. http://imgur.com/a/VSYTM
    I consider myself pretty tech savvy and up to date with Apple stuff (i've had an iPhone/iPad since they were released), and after some cursory Googling I wasn't able to find any other reports of this, so I started to wonder if the Apple employee's goodwill was too good to be true. I asked her if the phone she was given came sealed in a box and she said it wasn't.
    At this point I'm wondering if it was a refurbished phone or if perhaps there's some funny business going on. I'm not sure how to check the legitimacy of the phone and/or if it's been jailbroken or sideloaded with a modified version of the OS, but I wasnted to do some homework and try to find out. One reason why I wouldn't think it's refurbished is because refurbs are checked and tested before being released back into the wild. Then again, it could be a lemon, I don't know. I've also heard reports of iPhones being replaced when there's hardware defects like WiFi issues or sticky Home buttons, but in this case her phone was clearly broken outside of normal hardware defects.
    Anyway, has anyone seen this glitch before? Am I paranoid here? Is there a way to further investgate what's going on with the phone, and if so what should be done? If it's a normal refurb, any known way to fix this graphical bug?
    I really want to believe it was an awesome act of goodwill, but, y'know, better safe than sorry.
    Thanks for any help!
    I suggest you submit a bug to apple through there feedback system we are just users like you and have no bearing on fixing this.
  • Does anyone know where can i purchase a legit iphone 5 logicboard?
    My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode and when i try to restore the phone it reboots itself and goes back to recovery mode, i need help, the error is error 19.
    See Restore iPhone To Factory State | Iphone troubleshooting ... and Error -19 when restoring iPhone: Apple Support Communities for help resolving Error 19.
    Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
    Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
           other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
           until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
                    Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
                    release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
           device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
           let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
           charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
           When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
    If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
    If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
    Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.
  • Iphone 3GS stopped playing videos on websites after 4.3.5 upgrade. Can I downgrade? It is a legit iphone no jailbreak
    used to be able to play any videos in Safari before the upgrade. Now all I get is either 404 html error or Quicktime file not found... Websites visted have not changed their settings (contacted the web admins and confirmed). Any idea how I can fix? I don't want to try the google jailbreak solutions unless there is no legit way of fixing the problem.
    Thank you
    gabrielafromwebster wrote:
    Unfortunatelly, yes. I attempted several times to do the restore. It goes right back to 4.3.5 regardless of the date of the restore I refer to
    Uh yeah... this is the expected and correct way for it to work.  Backups have never included the iOS version.
    When restoring, iTunes always loads the current iOS version and then restores the users data and settings.
