Is my iphone dead?

Hello there, i was wondering if anybody on here could help. About a week ago my iphone started being weird, at first it would say this accessory is not compatible with iphone, when there was nothing connected to it. Then it started switching home screens by itself.
It was still working but had these weird little problems, then when i plugged it into my computer to sync up with itunes, a message appeared on my comuter saying, this usb device has malfunctioned. I couldnt turn my iphone or off do anything with it, since then obviously my battery has died, and so the phone is now dead.
Ive tried everything i could find to turn it back on, all the different holding of buttons combinations, but nothing seems to be working.so my question is does anybody know a way i can get this fixed, or is it a gonner.
thanks in advance.

Did you connect it to the adaptor for at least 10min. before resetting it or switching it on again?

    my os version: 4.2
    Firmware: 02.10.04

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • IPhone DEAD after 2.0.2 update!

I updated and iTunes said the update failed due to an unknown error after backing up the iPhone. The phone, still connected, had the apple logo. I disconnected and still nothing but a logo. After several minutes I performed a reset by holding down power/home buttons. After reboot I got the picture on the phone to connect to iTunes or slide for an emergency call. I connected to iTunes and got a message saying "The iPhone "Todd's iPhone" cannot be used with iTunes because information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your phone and that it is not PIN-locked". Now my iPhone is completely dead with now way to start over. Any help is appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Hey Todd,
Was the iPhone in Airplane Mode when you started the restore?
Can the iPhone still make emergency calls? Try to make a call & disable Airplane Mode.
After Airplane Mode is off, try restoring the iPhone again.
If that does not work, try to reseat the SIM and restore the iPhone.

  • Is iPhone's battery shot? Or is the iPhone dead? Can I back it up if I replace the battery?

This morning, I woke up to my iPhone 4s being at 4% despite me charging it the entire night before. I assumed, with some testing, that the battery was damaged and that, because I was planning on getting the iPhone 5s, that today would be a good day to do so. I had issues in the past with iCloud and had just yesterday fixed it so that everything but my photos were on the cloud. I was planning to add my photos to the Cloud at some point today or tomorrow, because I hadn't backed my iPhone 4s on my computer in a long, long time. Later today, after having purchased and set up my new iPhone 5s, I plugged in my iPhone 4s one last time to see what would happen and if the battery would change, but when I came back to see, my iPhone 4s would not turn on at all. I tried holding down the home button and the power button at the same time and every other trick that doesn't result in a total loss of data. My question is: is my phone dead forever (can I never get my photos that were on it?), or can I simply replace the battery and it'll turn on so that I can back it up and put the photos onto my Cloud with my final use of it before I recycle it or donate it. Please let me know, I'm worried that I lost all of my pictures! Thank you for your help.

Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.
Will the data on my iPhone be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPhone will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPhone and does not offer any data transfer service. During service, Apple may exchange your iPhone with an iPhone that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability.
Following service, your iPhone may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

  • Iphone dead. Was updating apps. Put the phone in my pocket. Minutes later heard a steady buzzing sound. It was my phone. I tried to turn it off: no luck.   It then went dead.

Just finished making a phone call.  Noticed I needed to update apps.  Started that. Put the phone in my pants pocket. Minutes later heard a steady buzzing sound. It was my iphone. I pressed the phone, the screen was black. I tried turning it off from the top: it would not turn off. It kept buzzing. The Iphone went dead. Any ideas?
    thanks,
    Jeonisha

I had a similar issue where my iPhone just died on me even though it had plenty of battery left. I was told to do a hard reset by holding the lock and home buttons down together for 15 seconds. When I did my phone came back on and worked normally.

  • IPhone Dead Following 3.1.2 Upgrade

Ran an automatic update on my iPhone 3G, probably running whatever OS was last automatically downloaded. Now it's dead, the only thing showing is the USB to iTunes picture, Windows Vista does not recognize it when I plug it in and it says I need a recovery driver - which it can't find.
    Any ideas?

Similar issues to what others stated here. I also upgraded a new 2 week old 3GS, locked up, tried restore, spent 3 hrs on phone with support. Reinstalled iTunes twice (which is huge), set up new user/admin accounts, installed again. Tried on two separate computers. Re-downloaded the upgrade over 7 times!!
I was able to get the phone to be recognized by computer etc, and it would attempt the restore process, but then give error codes (never did work), and would lock up. Support gave up on helping. Error messages were 1603, and 14. Restore did not ever work. Download was fine, but iPhone would start to load (apple symbol, and status line, then fail less than 10% through). They walked me through the online troubleshooting for the codes (which I had previously done), but they had nothing other than that to assist with.
Final result was a return to ATT, and paid for a new phone (yes they charged my $20 to exchange it even though it was 2 weeks old). Support never did fix my problem. I now have a new phone, with 3.1 installed and I am afraid to try the upgrade again. Tried to get ATT to upgrade to 3.1.2, but they said they couldn't do it at the store.
I work in SW business, know the variables of systems etc; but this should be a simple process to upgrade the iPhone OS.
In the end I was very disappointed in the upgrade, and am awaiting any insights anyone might find and post here. I have a two week window, upgrade will be attempted once more and if it fails before my 30 day grace period I return over $600 worth of iphone and other items purchased.
Please post a simple fix, or even a complicated one....

  • New iPhone Dead MBP

I bought a new iPhone last week and set it up on my MacBook Pro. I downloaded several applications from iTunes, synced my calendar and contacts from my old cell phone using Outlook. So everything works great with my iPhone, except my MacBook Pro died, (harddrive is dead)so I bought the new MacBook. Is there anyway I can set up my iPhone with my new MacBook? I really don't want to upload all the application and outlook info again.

If you don't have files backed up elsewhere, not much you can really do.
You can re-download the apps (iTunes will tell you that you already bought them and not charge you) but any data in them will have to be put back in.
Syncing with a new outlook will merge contacts so what is on phone will move back to computer. Same for calendar etc info.

  • Apple wont replace my iPhone (dead pixel)

i just got off the phone with iPhone support and they said they wouldn't replace my phone... I have a dead pixel and the guy said it had to be more then one pixel to "be a problem"
So my one dead pixel that i notice every time i look at my phone isn't a problem? whats up with that?
I love apple to death but come on... i spent $600 on this phone and your not gonna help me out?

It's a tough thing to hear but any company that manufactures an LCD anything will usually tell you that dead pixels are just a part of the hardware and you typically need several for it to be considered defective. This is what you'll get from any MP3 or monitor manufacturer.

  • IPhone "Dead Strip"... and what to do now?

    Hey there,
My first generation, Edge iPhone has a "dead strip." Basically, the horizontal row where the "7" "8" and "9" appear on the "Enter Passcode" screen no longer recognizes any touching. Any at all. Honestly, thank God that my passcode doesn't use any of those numbers... If not I wouldn't even be able to log in.
I first noticed the lack of touch recognition about 2 months ago, but the "dead strip" wasn't as tall as it is now. "Tall" being the height of the strip... it's "width" always encompassed the entire horizontal rule of the iPhone's screen, and still does. I noticed it when scrolling web pages, since when my finger got to the old, less tall strip the web page would stop scrolling (thinking I had lifted my finger, I suppose). It wasn't that bothersome... until the strip just kept getting larger ("taller"). The "dead strip" has kept growing in size.
Now that the strip has grown to a large "dead strip," I can no longer write anything with my iPhone's keyboard. It renders e-mail, web and text useless (not to mention any application, etc. that has input buttons placed in said "dead strip"). I've even tried getting around the e-mail problem with EasyWriter, and have had good results. EasyWriter gives one the ability to craft an e-mail with its application... using a horizontal keyboard. So, unlike with the default iPhone e-mail program where I'm stuck not being able to touch certain letters, EasyWriter allows me to keep rotating the display until the letter I want is in a non-"dead strip" location. It works... but, boy, is it tedious and time consuming. Though EasyWriter still does nothing for web and text input issues. Not EasyWriter's fault, just saying that I can't use it as a work-around to the "dead strip."
I took my iPhone to the Apple store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue last week and all they could say was "out of warranty... refurbish for $199." My iPhone has zero physical damage, so I'm pretty ticked... but I understand that nothing can be warranted forever. (But I bought mine on launch day, so I personally think that less than 1.5 years is pathetic to not warrant, however. This is about quality of manufacturing, in my opinion.)
My question to the forum is this: is there still a market for first generation, Edge iPhones? I thought I'd read that as a resale... they were more preferable than the 3G iPhones.
Thea reason I ask is that since it's "out of warranty" I can either get a refurbished first generation, Edge iPhone for $199 or upgrade to a 3G for $199... though that 3G's phone plan would cost me $15/month more as well (keeping the same wireless/text plan that I have now).
If I go the refurbished, first generation, Edge route (for monthly pricing reasons)... will I be able to resell it at some point in the near future, when I am ready to upgrade to a 3G? Are the first generation, Edge iPhones still selling online for more than the $199 it would cost me?
Or... even better, is there anything which I can make a case for, that would just have Apple swap it out for me? This would be the best route, since I literally have treated this thing gallantly and in a case for its entire existence. So, to me it's bad craftsmanship that has brought this on.
    Thanks

    Tamara,
Thank you for the feedback. Do people actually buy iPhones with "dead strips?" On second thought, since I could use it as a second Sonos controller, I'd like to get it fixed after I purchase a new iPhone. Can you steer me in the right direction, to get it fixed? Website(s)?
And as a small side note, AppleCare wasn't available on launch-day purchased iPhones until some months afterwards... so, by the time that it came out, I wasn't mindful of remembering to go and get it.
    Thanks again

  • IPhone dead and won't charge - strange dim red light

    Good morning,
I was talking with my sister last night when my IPhone phone shut off.  I assumed that my battery died so I put it on the charger.  When I went back to get my phone off the charger I noticed that it did not charge at all.  I tried doing a reset holding down the home key and the shut off key together and it still won't turn on.  I left it on the charger overnight and this morning it is still dead.  I noticed this morning in the dark that I can see a very low dim red light by the ear piece speaker at the top of the phone.
At this point, I am at a complete loss.  I have no idea what to do.  We leave on vacation tomorrow and at this point, I have no phone.  Very scary for me since we are going to Florida and my oldest daughter is going to California.  I need to be in contact with her while she is gone.    Any help and good news is much needed!
Thank you so much for taking time to read this post!
    Sincerely,
    Angela

I would say when an iPhone normally dies it when plugged in does eventually give you an icon like an empty battery indicator then later I would say it turns on with an apple. If your under warrenty or with any extended warrenty insurance. I would call Verizon and say that your phone won't turn on at all and you want a replacement . It should take a day to get or go to apple and ask to replace.

  • IPhone dead pixels?

I recently got my iPhone's screen changed after I noticed a huge amount of dead grey pixels growing near the bottom. After being replaced, it was good as new. A couple of months later and I noticed a few grey pixels at the top and they grew longer and wider by the day. At this point, I can only see half of the time and my carrier. I sent in my iPhone once more and they told me they switched my LCD, and I have payed for it as well as I no longer have a warranty but I can still see the dead pixels near the top. The first time was succesful, why not now? I'm starting to doubt the fact that they changed my LCD. Can anyone please tell me if the pixels would remain even after changing an LCD? It seems highly unlikely. Please help me as I still have the reciept and would need to take action immediately.

how can I identify stuck pixels with a magnifying glass?
You can't, but you can identify dust.

  • The iPhone Dead Pixels

    Hi
+I own an iPhone 2G 16GB running on OS 3.1.2.+
+There are some dead pixel on my screen.+
+Is there any way to fix them softwarely or just I have to replace the screen?+
+Also is there any idea about the Knox iPhone Stuck Pixel Fix method?+
+Merry Christmas and the Lord bless+
    Mehran

The only way to tell if it is software related would be to restore your iphone back to its original settings and choosing "setup as a new iphone" at then end of the process. Other than that its going to be a issue with the display itself and would need to be replaced.

  • IPhone Dead Pixel

Hey everyone.  recently got my iphone about three weeks ago and have already noticed a dead pixel. It is a white pixel on a black background, particularly noticeable when charging and booting up. I love my iphone, it works great its just that this dead pixel is kinda frustrating considering the amount of money I spent for this phone.
I was wondering if apple would replace my iphone?
And also, how long does the warranty last for dead pixels? Should I return it before the 30 day mark, or will they still replace it up to a year?
    Thanks for your help.

    mdigregori wrote:
so as long as its under a year, they will replace my phone with a dead pixel?
    Maybe.
But you will need to take it to an Apple store or go here -> https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

  • IPhone dead after resting on iPad with smart cover

Last night I set my fully charged iPhone 4s on top of my iPad2 with smart cover and went to bed (both powered on).  This morning my phone was completely dead.  Does this have something to do with the magnets in the iPad/smart cover, or is this just signal interference between the devices?

Probably neither, just coincidence. Plug in the phone to the wall charger for 15 minutes, then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears.
