i went to the apple store yesterday and i got a replacment iphone 4 and the man who helped me out just gave me the phone without setting it up or anything. okay so when i went through the set up is asked me to pick a carrier it listed
verizon
sprint
at&t
virgin mobile usa
and some other carriers i cant remember
of course i picked sprint cause thats my carrier but i was wondering is my iphone still unlocked or is it now locked to sprint

Okay.... you have a CDMA iPhone, it is locked to Sprint. There is no need or reason to unlock it. No other CDMA carrier will touch the device or allow it on their network.

Ifeel miserable after trying out all the options changed multiple sims, tried multiple carriers, restored the phone back and have set-up as new device but the problem does not get solved... its is so frustrating that after investing on a world's most expensive phone you cannot enjoy the calling features which the phone offers which is the main thing you own the phone for.. Rest of the things are working.. The funniest part I am not able to make calls or receive calls but can access the internet.. I have tried every possible thing and really very frustrated with this iphone of mine...I hope the problem gets solved.. would anyone have any solutions to this problem.. Does it mean one should never update software as I hear that after updating to IOS.5.1 the problem has started coming and same has been with there.... Apple says its a hardware failure which is very difficult to digest as sometimes I get 5 bars and able to make and receive calls but 95% of the time I am unable to. If anyone has any solution I will be very happy if he or share can share the same. Many thanks. its so disgusting to experience this on top of this apple does not support global warranty for the phone as you need to go to the country from where you bought the phone for replacement.. Truly sad state of affairs.. very very very dissappointing.

I would just explain that this just started happening, that nothing has changed on the phone, that it is an original iPhone and I wondered if they are implementing a change in coverage with their Edge network in my area.

I have requested to have my iphone 4 unlocked from three uk. When I receive instructions from them, do I need to connect to my own iTunes or can I connect to someone else's and/or does my contract with three still need to be active for me to unlock or can I cancel before I unlock, I have already paid the £15:32 by debit card. As more background, the reason I want to find out is because I'm away from home and because I expected my phone to be unlocked well before now (three are seriously useless) I requested my PAC code before Christmas and it expires on Sunday so I would love to transfer my number tomorrow before I have wait another 30 days to cancel my contract with three.
I'm not sure if they will unlock my phone in time or if I will be able to do it whilst not having my Mac. Can I transfer my number and then unlock my phone afterwards? I will be reunited with my Mac on Monday.

Install iTunes on your Acer and you can back up the iPhone. Or back it up to iCloud. If you do not back it up you can get it unlocked, but you will lose all of your content.
You can get iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes.
Even after unlocking I'm not sure it will work on Straight Talk, because last time I checked ST used Verizon as its carrier, and an AT&T iPhone 4 is not compatible with Verizon's network. You can probably use it on Net 10 or T-Mobile once it is unlocked.

It only works with the original sim Card company.
In the Iphone appears a message teeling that has no service with another company's sim CArd.

sometimes appears a message informing that the SIM card is locked with a PIN. That i must instal the last itunes version and connect it again.
but every Sim card I have are with PIN.

I;ve done holding both buttons as you sugested, but there is no signal appearing.
I am in Uruguay, South America and the original company is Movistar ( Telefonica) and the new sim card is from ANTEL ( the officail and biggest company in my country).

How, EXACTLY, did you get it "unlocked"? ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it. Anything else is a hack.
You can not get help here for a hacked phone.

If it was unlocked legitimately it will never relock. As you said you have sent this to your carrier to unlock this will always be unlocked however many times you restore the phone.

The T-mobile phone is advertised to be SIM-free. This does NOT mean unlocked. Unlocked iPhone 6's are not yet for sale in the US.
