Is my iPhoto library in the correct folder?

iphoto 11-9.4.3
Hello
I was wondering if below was the correct location for my iPhoto library folder? if not , how do I correct it, if I can at all?
I have no idea how it got renamed (iPhoto library copy) either, can that be corrected? if so how?
the only noticeable issue I am having is it takes about 10-15 seconds for iPhoto to open and close.
I wanted to back up my iPhoto library on a ext HD that is how i noticed this.(I probable did this on my last attempt to back it up)
below is what is in my pictures folder.
Thanks

Old Toad, Terence Devlin, léonie,
Thanks so much for your help,
its backing up to time machine now (looks like it is doing a brand new back up, all 64 GB) and iPhoto opened up like it was untouched.
It is great having people here that put in the time and effort to help out. I will follow you guys for future information.
I forgot to ask, Should I bother changing the name of the "iPhoto library copy" back to iPhoto library?
I thought I read somewhere in one of these iPhoto discussions never to change that name??

  • IPhoto Library in the Shared folder?

Isn't it possible to place the iPhoto library in the shared folder and then under each user account, link their iPhoto library to it, granting them both full permissions to the files?
I know I've done this once before, but I recall I had to do something tricky with permissions, possibly involving the Terminal

If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Finally: If you’re comfortable in the Terminal, and understand File Permissions, ACL’s etc., some folks have reported success using the process outlined here . (Note this page refers to 10.4, but it should also work on 10.5). If you’re not comfortable with the terminal, and don’t know an ACL from the ACLU, then you’re best doing something else... Oh, and the warning about simultaneous users still applies.

  • I would like to copy my iPhoto (9.4.1) library from my Mac Pro (10.7.5) to a Macbook Pro (10.7.5). Can I drag the iPhoto Library to Air Drop and send them to the MacBook? Will that then be a usable iPhoto library on the Macbook?

It would be better if you could connect the two Macs via a hard wired LAN to copy the library from the Mac Pro to the MacBook.  Wireless connections can have momentary dropouts which could affect the reliable copying of files.
If you do go with Air Drop be sure to open and inspect the copied library closely to confirm it was a successulf copy.

  • If I use a backup machine that has a folder of my iphoto library, can I delete my Iphoto library without the machine updating and deleting the photos as well?

Hey everyone, I have a Lacie 1 TB back up machine that I use to backup every once in a while everything I have in my macbook pro.
I don't know if there's a difference between a hard disk in which you save whatever you want or a back up machine that backs up whatever you have in your computer once you connect it, so, My question is the following:
Having backed up my Iphoto (I checked if there's a folder in the machine with all my photos), can I now get rid of all my photos in the laptop so there's more space? If I delete my photos (in Iphoto), does the back up machine automatically update its folders and delete my saved iphoto contents as well?
    Thank you!
I'm doing this because my laptop is running really slow lately and makes a lot of noise (like an airplane getting ready for take off) even though I've used it for a year.
    I use a Macbook pro 15''
    OS X Version 10.8.4
processor: 2.2 GHz intel core i7
    Memory 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Startup disk : macintosh HD

    Okay:
Except an arrow turning in circle near the ''wireless'' or ''sound'' symbols on the top of the screen. If I click on it, I see ''enter time machine'', ''back up now'', ''open time machine preferences''.
You're using Time Machine to back up to the External Disk.
    Back to your first question:
Having backed up my Iphoto (I checked if there's a folder in the machine with all my photos), can I now get rid of all my photos in the laptop so there's more space?
    No.
Time Machine keeps a rolling back up of your data. Eventually, anything you delete from your Mac will be deleted from iPhoto too.
If space is an issue then get another HD. They're not expensice and you can put your iPhoto Library on it.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

I believe you will find you can again sync Photos if you delete the "iPod Photo Cache", but predict that any subsequent attempt will fail.  In my case, the enxt sync removes all the photos again - I've seen other reports of error messages upon sync.  Mine just fails silently. :-)

  • When I move photos from iPhoto library into a desktop folder, I often am unable to view more than the one I dragged. The rest remain 'stacked'

Can anyone help. I cannot reliably move multiple photos from within the iPhoto library to a desktop folder without them remaining stacked and inaccessible. Sometimes I can manually drag the photos, one by one, off the stack and arrange inside the folder. At other times, the photos remain stacked and cannot be separated???
I have no problems highlighting a group of photos and moving them as a 'stack'.
    Help?

Select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) to a desktop folder

  • Sharing iphoto library on the same computer between different users

Can anyone tell me how (without having to write my own code) I can share photos easily (so I can teach my parents, who know nothing about mac, how to do it) between different users on the SAME COMPUTER?
I am so frustrated! You can share with anyone else in the world, but when it is on the same computer I can't figure out how to share!

    Hi Mereditty,
Here are all the links I have for sharing a couple of different ways.
    SHARING IPHOTO LIBRARIES
Sharing libraries between users on the same local network
You can also share a library on the same machine between users the same way.
Sharing libraries between users on the same machine...
-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

SHARING ONE IPHOTO LIBRARY BETWEEN USERS ON SAME MACHINE
You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

  • I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different.  So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb.  I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this?

I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different.  So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb.  I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this?  I've been looking at Duplicate Annhilator but I don't think it can do it.
    Thanks!

I just ran a test with iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Annihilator, iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner, Duplifinder and Photodedupo.  I imported a folder of 5 photos into a test library 3 times, allowing iPhoto to import duplicates.  I then ran the 5 photos thru resizer to reduce their jpeg compression but all other aspects of the file the same.
None of the duplicate removal apps found set that was reduced in the file resizer. That's probably due to the fact that the file creation date was being used as a criteria and the resized photo would have a different file creation date even though the Image Capture date was the same.
They all found the 3 regular duplicates and some of them would mark two and leave the 3rd unmarked.  iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner can sort the found duplicates by file size but if the file was edited to get the reduced file size it might not be found as it would have a different file creation/modification date.
iPhoto Library Manage was able to find all duplicates and mark them as such if the file names were the same the the filename option was selected.  Otherwise it also missed the modified, resized version.  It allowed one to select the one photo to save before going to work on the library.
So if a photo has been reduced in image quality or pixel size it will not be considered a duplicate.

  • My macbook pro crashed and the hard drive was replaced. How do I restore my backup pre- 9.6 iphoto library to the 9.6.1 iphoto library? They look completely different.

My macbook pro crashed and the hard drive was replaced. How do I restore my backup pre- 9.6 iphoto library to the 9.6.1 iphoto library? They look completely different. When I look at my backed-up iphoto library folder I see lots of files and folders: ALbumData.xml, Attachments folder, etc. The 9.6.1 iphoto library doesn't appear to be a folder at all. Help!

iPhoto 6 and earlier libraries were regular folders with the kind of files your reporting.  With the advent of iPhoto 7 the library folder was changed to a package similar to the application packages but have essentially the same files and folders inside.  There's no reason to have access to the inside of the iPhoto Library so Apple changed them to packages.
Do you have a backup copy of the iPhoto Library from before the HD crash.  If so restore it to the Pictures folder in your Home folder.  If you previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 or earlier download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before trying to open it with iPhoto 9.6.1.

  • Iphoto library lacks the picture icon

    Hi all-
I noticed a few weird things recently with my iphoto-- many video clips lack thumbnails (ie the only way to tell what clip it is is by actually viewing it).  Some are just black/ no video.  Same with some pictures- they're just black/gone.  I tried to recover using time machine- didn't help.  I noticed that in finder, the iphoto library lacks the 'picture' icon and is a "package" file (see attached screenshot).  But- it's the right size and other than what I describe above it seems to work ok.  I made a backup of entire HD with carbon copy cloner.  Even when I reboot and select the external HD iphoto library it looks the same (no icon)- and in fact it won't let me select that "package file" as the library.  I tried fixing with iphoto (permissions, recreating thumbnails etc) to no avail.  At this point I think I should re-load iphoto and see if that helps-- but my concern is that if I delete iphoto and reload that I won't be able to use the library on my external drive since I can't use it currently.
    any suggestions?
I'm using OS X and iPhoto '11, both updated.
    thanks in advance,
    Brad

If rebuilding the database doesn't solve the problem you might have to give this a try:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • WRONG iPhoto library, can't correct

I upgraded my harddrive to a larger size, but before I did, I cloned it and rebooted to the new drive. However, Aperture still sees my iPhoto masters on the old drive (I renamed the old drive from MyDrive to MyDrive2, but Aperture still sees iPhoto in Users>Pictures as being in drive 2, the old drive). I see no way of updating or changing the path to the new drive. When I select Relocate masters and choose the new path to the new boot drive, it doesn't relocate the masters.
However, when browsing my iPhoto library via Aperture 2.1.1 , it is seeing new items added to the current iPhoto library in the new drive.
Anyone have away of resolving this confusion? Suggestions??
    Thanks
    Jeff

I see part of the problem of this attempt to relocate the masters and I'm wondering if it is due to changes in the way iPhoto from 2006 has changed to the current layout. I see that Aperture is looking for the masters in a Folder named either Originals or Modified:
    MyDrive2/Users/Me/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Modified/2006/Roll 256/IMG_0168.JPG
But when I look in the iPhoto libraries, I do not see any MODIFIED or ORIGINAL folders on any drive....
Is this structural change responsible for the loss of a path and how do you fix and find the new ones in albums vs originals. You can see these folders (Original and Modified) when using the Finder, but you cannot see them using the Aperture interface, so I cannot reconnect them...
    Weird and confusing...
