Is my iPod gone for good?

I was canoeing with my dad and his girlfriend on Friday, and my iPod (a late 2006 Apple refurb) fell into the 3 ft deep water. We decided it was dead, so we went and had a good time for an hour. When we came in, my dad went in the water and retrieved it. once I let it dry, it flashed the apple logo, the sad iPod face with the iPod support web address, and a low battery symbol.
I tried connecting it to my cousins' computer and iPod dock. The computer recognized the iPod as a "malfunctioning USB device", and the dock would not recognize it at all. Now, I am back with my mom, and it is flashing the "very low battery, please wait" and a different low battery symbol extremely fast, even though it has been hooked up to my computer for nearly 45 minutes, and the computer still does not even recognize it is hooked up. It does not appear to be charging at all. Is my iPod gone for good, or can I still save it?

While the circuit board can probably be dried out and used again and maybe the battery might charge normally after the circuit board is completely dry, I would bet that the hard drive is probably shot since it probably has water inside it and can not easily be dried out.

my ipod 4g got wet and wont turn on is it gone for good? please help

    If it is dry. See:
How to fix a wet iPod or iPhone | eHow.comfix-wet-ipod-iphone.html
    then:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • I just downloaded Itunes on my phone and it needed to update a os1. I have new icons now but it erased all my contacts. Is that normal? Are all my contacts gone for good?

I just bought a square and in order to use it I needed to download Itunes with OS1. I did it but now I have no contacts, is that normal? Are all my contacts gone for good?

There is no iTunes download for any iOS device.

  • Upgraded to ios5 and my calendar was wiped clean. Is it gone for good?

upgraded to ios5 and my calendar was wiped clean. Is it gone for good?

My phone says it's showing All Calendars.  This morning, other people said to disable and then re-enable the iCloud Calendar, which has somehow allowed about 50% of my Calendar entries to reappear, but half are still missing.  This is almost more frustrating because if half were saved when it ran the backup, where are the rest?
All of my calendar entries were entered directly into my iPhone, either manually from the Calendar app, or by getting into it from a Yahoo Email that had an Event I needed to save.  I guess I'll just have to break out the paper calendar and try to re-enter everything that's missing.
The iTunes version I'm running now seems to be the most current one since the constant upgrades are one of the reasons I stay out of iTunes usually.

  • Ipod Nano - Stuck in limbo, or gone for good?

A long, long time ago, in a time when the nano was first released, I bought one... Unfortunately, it quickly became useless as my music library expanded. So, I upgraded to an 80GB Video. Anywho, I decided to keep my nano, but since I wouldn't be using it, I put it in a box and put it away.
Recently, I dug up the old nano, just for kicks. Figured I'd attempt to power it on as a joke, was sure the battery would be dead. Didn't turn on. No big deal, I thought, it had been sitting for awhile. So, I plugged it in to my Mac mini. I didn't get any response on the mini to indicate that the nano was even hooked up, but I figured it was just cause the battery was so drained that it needed to charge up for a bit. So, I left it plugged in over night.
The next morning, I woke up, checked on the nano, still nothing. Tried the "Reset" method amongst several other techniques to get the nano working, and still nothing.
To sum up, I get absolutely 0 response from this nano. Nothing on the iPod when it's plugged in, nothing on the computer when it's plugged in, and the screen just stays in "off" mode. I've tried the standard things (Different computer, different USB port, etc.) but since my Video works fine on this set up, it really shouldn't be an issue.
So, can anyone tell me, what's up with my iPod? Is it dead? Or just really really asleep?
    Thanks.

The battery is probably dead and needs replacing. You can't leave an iPod battery for a long time without regular charging (even if not in use). The battery needs to be "exercised".
Lithium-ion batteries ( like the one in the iPod) need to be used. If you don’t use your iPod at all, it's recommended to complete a charge cycle at least once a month in order to keep it in working condition.

  • I recorded a video using the camera but deleted it by accident, has it gone for good?

I recorded a video on my iPad using the camera and deleted it by accident, have I lost it for good?

Unless your last back up to your computer was after it was taken and before it was deleted then yes, it's gone - there is no trashcan or undelete facility on the iPad. If it was on the iPad when you last backed up then you could try restoring the iPad to the backup and see if that puts it back (you'll need to restore the whole iPad, you can't just restore an individual app)

  • OKR partition gone for good?

Ok I lost the partition that had the okr files. I was looking at putting win 7 with Xp home duel o/s.
Is there a way to make another or have I lost it for good?
It is a nice way to repair the o/s if any thing was haywire.
    Cheers

Just download all the drivers needed for XP and keep them safe just in case you decide to go back from Win 7. This is what i did.

  • IPod Classic crashed - has the hard drive gone for good?

I have a 80gb iPod classic and it's crashed, bizarrely after charging it in a foreign country.
I've gone into the Diagnostic mode and got the following data:
    Reatracts - 8
    Reallocs - 1627
    Pending Sectors 18
    PowerOn Hours - 676
    Start/Stops - 113
    Temp:  24
    Min:     15
    Max     47
Does this mean my hard drive has crashed and a need to repair/replace? Or is there more I can do?
    Help very much appreciated! Thanks.

Can your iPod still play Music? or rather what is shown on the iPod Screen?
    Can Windows recognise your iPod?
Try to fix the hardisk, by putting it into Disk Mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
Then connect it to Windows and run in DOS
    Chkdsk drive: /R /F
Where drive is the iPod drive ID, like E: or F:
This will correct the filesystem and hopefully mark the bad cluster, which may bring down your Pending numbers..
    Have a nice day!

  • Lost Ipod & Re-installed Windows. Are my songs gone for good?

    I had probably 50-60 songs.
I am wondering if there would be a way to retrieve my old songs.
Do I have to try and re-download everything and wait for I-Tunes
to ask "do you want to purchase XYZ song again or just download" --
    (or whatever it says)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks!!
    -Sean

Unless customer service grants you a free redownload, you need to purchase them again. Backing the songs up is your responsibility.

  • Hi. I was using my my 160gb iPod Classic not long ago and it froze up and the message "Connect to itunes to restore" appeared. So I connected it and a message came up saying it needed formatting but that my iPod has 0bytes capacity. Is it gone for good?

Yeah, so right now it can't be formatted because there's no memory to format and it has no partition issues because there is nothing to partition. Can't find any forums that help online. They all say the same thing "1) Disk Mode. 2) Format to FAT32. 3) Restore" but it simply won't allow me to format, FAT32 isn't even an option in the drop down box. It's fairly old to so the warranty has run out. Repairable or time to go shopping?

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • Once USB disk sleeps, gone for good.

When my Lacie 500 GB USB 2 disk sleeps (and sometimes even when it doesn't), it becomes unavailable to the network. It is plugged into the USB port of the AEBS via a powered Keyspan 2.0 hub.
Most of the time it works fine, mounting automatically on my MacBook and/or manually on my G4 iMac, but sometimes the green light on the hub goes out (sometimes not) and the disk is no longer available. Time interval before this happens is very random, but if the disk is mounted and in use it stays that way with no glitches. It's only when things are inactive that it tends to disappear, though if it has been working it also usually remounts just fine after the MacBook sleeps. I have checked for firmware updates for the Lacie (none) and have all the latest updates on the other hardware (both Macs running 10.4.11).
When it's "gone," it won't show up in Airdisk Utility or the menu or via the Go-->Connect to server menu. Sometimes unplugging the AC power for the hub and re-powering brings it back. If that fails, then unplugging and reconnecting the Lacie's USB cable sometimes works. Last resort, which always works, is power-cycling the drive itself.
When I look in the AEBS logs, it often shows "USB disk unplugged" when the disk has disappeared.
    Any thoughts/advice?
    -dan

No luck, but thanks for a very good diagnostic suggestion.
With the disk plugged directly into the AEBS USB port, it slept and dropped off the network. Plugging it into the hub did not revive it; it took a power-cycle of the drive.
    Are your drives partitioned?

  • IPod Died for Good with No Reason

So, I have had my iPod for 4 months. It's the latest iPod touch. It was more then half charged when I was using it last, and not even ten minutes later I went to use it again and it was dead. I thought maybe it was from the cold. I put it on the charger when I got home, but there was no response from my iPod. I thought maybe it was the charger, so I switched chargers. It still wasn't responding. I hooked it up to my computer, which my computer couldn't register it. What happened? That's $250 gone. This has not been the first time either

  • When text messages are deleted are they gone for good?

My daughter accidentally deleted messages that I need for court. Is there any way to retrieve them after she cleared my conversation ?

The only way to possibly retreive them would be a restore from backup created after the messages were received but prior to them being deleted.
If you do not regularly sync and backup the device, they are gone.

  • Aperture 2: Preview pix gone for good

After upgrading ( ! ) to the v.2 trial, all preview pix are gone. No way to restore them.
Any idea what I could do about it?
    Thank you very much!
    Peter
PS: As Aperture freezes every time I shut it down, I guess I'll stay with v.1 until v.2 is ready for release. I really HATE Apple's premature release policy! Leopard X.5.2 shouldn't have have been released earlier than yesterday - as X.5.0.

    You bet I am.
I'm experiencing the exact same issue after using the trial Aperture 2.0, activating it, and upgrading the library.
Every update available at the time of this writing has been applied.
I also found this thread with the same issue: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6592607

  • Is my onboard soundcard gone for good?

im using a HP Pavillion dv6645us and my sound hardware is intermittantly turning off during use. when it turns off though, its gone until restart. now even when i restart it wont operate at all. im unable to install any drivers because the hardware is not found at all. my volume control has a red x over it and when clicking on it just brings up the troubleshooting program which only tells me that "hardware changes have not been detected" but offers no solutions.
ive been using Windows 7 RC1 for months now, and have only been having this problem for a few days now.
should i start looking for an expressport soundcare?

I also read the feedback forum... and noticed that "about" 9 out of 10 messages were completely off the topic that was stated on the main page
It may be that "someone" at Adobe simply tired of so much off topic chatter and decided to delete that forum
