Is my iPod no longer "updatable"?

I have an 8G iPod touch (MA623LL), 3.1.3 software. I'm trying to download the update but I get the message that I have the current version.
Am I at the end of my updates with the release of the the new iPod touch?

Hi,
Unfortunately, your MA623LL iPod Touch is first generation. I have the same generation (16GB), purchased Christmas 2007. Apple has decided that these are not capable of running iOS 4 .... from the update page:
+The iOS 4 Software Update works with the second-, third-, and fourth-generation iPod touch.+
Looks like we're stuck with 3.1.3
Regards,
Rob

if it's just itunes that isn't recognising the ipod, try:

  • IPod no longer updates smart playlists after upgrade to 1.3

After upgrading my 5th Gen 30GB iPod to 1.3 I noticed immediately that the smart playlists on my iPod aren't updating any longer. Until 3 days ago my iPod had firmware version 1.2.1 and all smart playlists worked as expected.
I have many smart playlists that I have been happily using everyday for the past 2 years to play only new podcasts, shuffle my favorite tunes based on when they have been played last, and move songs in and out of My Top rated tunes based on their ratings. These no longer work on my iPod, but when I sync with iTunes they update fine. I didn't make any changes to my smart playlists before or immediately after upgrading, at least until I noticed the problem.
For the last couple of days since upgrading I have tried deleting all my smart playlists and recreating them, that didn't help. I have also tried restoring my iPod, which also didn't help. I have also tried creating a very basic smart playlist i.e.
Match all of the following rules - checked
    Rating is ***
    Live updating - checked
Sync'd that to my iPod and started playing a tune and changed it's rating to 5 stars. I then entered a static playlist, played a song from that and when it was done entered the new 5 star rating smart playlist and it wasn't updated.
I'm don't know what else to try, I've repeated the same test as above on my wife's 2nd Gen nano and it worked as expected. Has anyone else noticed smart playlists failing to update since the upgrade? I have searched here and on google, but only found reference to much older firmwares.

I'm having the same problem, once I've listened to a song in my 0 plays list, go out to a new menu, then back in, all the songs that have been played are still there, when a few weeks ago they were taken off and only unplayed songs were still there. Now if I switch to another playlist and back, I have to scroll all the way back to the point I was when I changed which didn't happen earlier.

  • My iPod no longer updates the "last played" on iTunes

I like to keep track of how many times I listen to my songs, and ever since I downloaded iTunes 7, my iPod Shuffle (1st Gen) no longer updates the "last played" category or the "play count" category for me. Now I don't know how many times I listened to those songs I listened to. Can anyone help?

    noone has an idea?

  • Ipod no longer updating on version 9.02 of itunes

My ipod has always updated synched automatically with itunes until today after I was updated to 9.02 itunes. Now when I plug it in, I see the "synch in process" message on my ipod as usual, but it only stays on for a second then disappears and nothing is synched.
Does anyone know why it has stopped actually synching?
    Thanks.

  • Ipod no longer updating songs :(

I have not had any previous problems with my video ipod. Now, when i try to update new songs from my itunes onto it, it APPEARS to work and itunes states that it is copying the songs and updating my ipod, but when i unplug my ipod none of the new songs are on it (All of the songs are in appropriate format). Upon unpluging my ipod, a yellow triangle appears in my launch bar and tells me that there is a corrput and unreadable file in \ipod_control\iTunes\temp folder- yet i cannot locate this on my computer. I can't think of any changes that would have prompted this error. I tried installing the 2006 software upgrade but it didn't help. I've tried resetting the ipod too. Is anyone else having this problem? HELP!
    30G Windows XP

I have the same problem. Just the other day my ipod was working fine. But today it wouldn't update any of the new songs I added. The songs are in readable formats and there is still plenty of space on my ipod. But when my ipod is updating on itunes, it actually shows that each song is being added to my ipod on the computer screen. But when I check my ipod even when it is still connected to my computer the songs aren't there even though through the ipod window on itunes shows that the songs have been added. The number of songs on my ipod in the "about" section doesn't match the total number that itunes says has been updated to my ipod. I really hope somebody can help us out because this is driving me crazy.

  • Songs on Owner's ipod cannot be updated because playlists no longer exist

I recently uploaded new CDs into my itunes library. When I tried to sync it said that it could only sync an owner's selection. I agreed because I was in a hurry. Later I came back to delete some of the songs that I do not use and I get the message "Songs on Owner's ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist." I tried to delete some of the unused playlists and now my ipod is blank with not a single song on it. I want to get my playlists back and my music back.

You will have to create a couple of new playlists to use to sync your iPod, then your iPod preferences will need to be change to sync on those specific playlists.

  • Playsists selected for syncing no longer exist? ipod won't update

My new ipod won't update because it says that playlists I've selected for syncing no longer exist. For this reason I can't get any of my music onto my ipod and I don't understand what I am supposed to do to fix this

Hi guys, I've been having the same problem. Specifically, when I try to transfer songs from iTunes to my iPod I get the following error message: "Songs in the iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". I did some searching around at this site, and found that one possible problem is that my library is larger than my iPod's capacity, so I have to eliminate some songs. I did this, but I still get the same error message.

  • I have an older ipod...ever since I updated the itunes software my ipod no longer works in my car.  my car is a 2013 mercedes E350.  Is there a way to go back to an older version of the itunes software?

I have an older ipod...ever since I updated the itunes software my ipod no longer works in my car.  my car is a 2013 mercedes E350.  Is there a way to go back to an older version of the itunes software?

If it's an older iPod, its software is not being updated by Apple.  So, I don't see how updating iTunes would make the iPod not work with the car's audio system, since iTunes just updates the song files (not how the iPod operates).
Does the iPod work by itself (play songs), when disconnected from the computer and iTunes?

  • Since I downloaded the new operating system to my iPod touch I can no longer update my Apps or download new ones.  My password is recognized but the download process is immediately interrupted when I touch update (all) or download.

Since I downloaded the new operating system (6.1.3) to my iPod touch I can no longer update my Apps or download and new Apps.  My password is recognized but when touching the update (all) button or download, the screen immediately reverts to the earlier screen and no updating or downloading occurs.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps...  Sign Out of the Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

  • I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade

I currently have Leopard, and there are no longer updates for it. So I must upgrade to either Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion. Without doing so I cannot update my itunes, and my ipod is no longer compatile with my mac. How can I buy the upgrade, since I do not have access to the mac store as that comes with Snow Leopard? I went to Best Buy and they said neither Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion can be bought there.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • Having downloaded update 10.5, the artists section of my iPod no longer recognises artists who feature on compilation albums. Instead it groups them under the album artist, ie various artists. Any suggestions?

Having downloaded iTunes update 10.5, my iPod no longer recognises in the artists section those artists who feature on various artists' compilation albums. Instead the iPod groups them under various artists, and, if you are looking for a particular artist, who only features on a compilation, you have to remember or search to see which various artist album they feature on - all very frustrating, especially as it worked OK before the update. So far I've not updated any more - so I've not taken 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 because 10.5 caused me so many problems, but I'm wondering if the solution could be in those updates
I've tried amending the iTunes library artist and album artist, and it is possible to get the iPod to recognise the artists, but the downside is that the library then removes the artist from the album, and you then have to play those tracks individually
Has anyone suffered the same problem and, if so, has a solution been found?

  • My ipod no longer can be formatted by IPOD UPDATER.

My ipod no longer can be formatted by IPOD UPDATER. It gives me a Cant mount ipod error now as well. It shows up in device manager as Player Recovery Device Class, and other pc's and macs cannot recognize it. Ive tried multiple ports and it does not work. When it is connected to the port it beeps as it should but then it will randomly beep as it is connected.
Also it does not work at all disconnected from the computer. The light doesnt work on it at all and there is no response whatsoever.

    Hi Clayton and everybody.
I got same problem with my Shuffle: the iPod doesnt play, it doesn't response to any button, no LED works. When i plug in the USB 2.0 port i've always used before (with any problem), WinXP Pro says "the device would work better in 2.0 usb" even though I have 2.0 usb, and i need to install a new hardware as a player recovery to get the iPod Updater recognizing it as a "recovery mode".
As you said, there is only option to do a Recover, but when it starts the proccess, the USB unmount (DIDU sound argh!), and the iPod Updater tells me "Error when trying to write disc" after a few minutes stuck in the recover proccess. I've tried in 3 different PCs, and same error...
I've been without using my Shuffle for 1 week (since it suddenly stopped playing music, due to low battery I thinked)...much more than 24 hours! And it doesn't work!
Should I keep trying the "recovery mode restore" expecting for a miracle or what? What can i do? Please help, i would like to do anything possible before aplying the warranty...
Thanks! And sorry for my bad english!

  • Play Count no longer updated from Ipod

After I updated the software on my Ipod, it no longer updates plays to the play count tally on Itunes when I update the Ipod. Formerly it did this automatically. Now only songs played on my computer go towards the play count tally. What gives?
    HP Pavilion   Windows XP

If you have changed the iPod updating method to Manual, then this is a normal event.
If not (you're still on 'automatic update', or 'update selected playlists'), then I don't have an easy answer.
You can try Resetting Your iPod to correct this problem. It may take several attempts.
If that does not solve the problem, then Restore Your iPod and reload the music back onto the iPod, from your iTunes.
