Is my issue with Final Cut Pro or my Macbook pro?

I'm going to try to be as thorough as possible in explaining my situation because I can't figure this problem out and it's exhausting me. I have an early 2011 macbook pro with the 2.2 ghz processor. I upgraded to 16gb of ram almost a year ago. I've been using Final Cut Pro 7 on this computer for several years now without issue and have made no setting changes that would prompt my problems. A few months ago my battery decided to stop holding a charge and now just registers 0%. Around the same time, while editing a short video my computer began behaving like it was overheating. It would crash, restart, crash and then restart again. After I did a disk and permissions repair it began to work normally again and I haven't had any more crashing issues. Around this period of time I began noticing that when my computer turns on it doesn't register the correct time and date. Given a few moments it corrects itself, but for some strange reason it was doing that every time.
Anyway, around that time I tried to upgrade to Mavericks and experienced an issue during installation because my hard drive was apparently damaged in some way and the installation couldn't be completed. I restored my previous OS and tried to carry on as I was with the damaged hard drive for as long as I could. I was still able to do everything I needed on the computer. I could still edit videos with Final Cut. I could still browse the internet. I could still stream Netflix.
About a month ago Final Cut stopped working. I could open the program, start a new project and import media files, but when I dragged them into the timeline, they just stuttered (audio would play but video would lag and then jump several frames then lag and jump frames). At the time I assumed this was because my hard drive finally gave up, but I was still able to do other functions like browse the internet and stream basketball games with nba league pass (granted they weren't crisp hd - on a side note, netflix was also behaving oddly. when I would browse through my list, it wouldn't stop scrolling when I moved the mouse away.) so I assumed the hard drive was my issue.
I just replaced my hard drive with an ssd (crucial m500) and upgraded to mavericks (10.9.1) and now I am having the same issues. Netflix behaves fine. Basketball games stream fine. My battery is still dead (obviously that wasn't going to change). I get the wrong date and time for a minute, but I'm thinking that's battery related now. But Final Cut still lags to the point where I can't use it. Video clips also won't render. I thought this might be an issue with the Final Cut program so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but it still did the same thing. Assuming I hadn't correctly/completely uninstalled it, I downloaded HitFilm 2 (an editing program that had a free download promotion at the time), figuring using a different program, if i could edit video with it, then my issue is with Final Cut and not my computer. Unfortunaely, I'm having the same lagging issues with HitFilm as I was with Final Cut.
I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. Sorry if this was a rambling post, but I wanted to get as much of the background out there as possible, should it provides anyone with a clue as to what is the issue here. Does anyone have any idea what could be at fault here? I'm stumped.

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?
    More information:
My Hauppauge HD PVR settings are set to custom. Video Constant Bit Rate, the average bit rate: 13.5 Mbps. The audio is AAC.

  • Compatibility issues with Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro

I'm getting ready to edit a project and I was wondering if there are any compatibility issues with Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro. I've never used Express put I assume I would be able to make cuts, simple effects and titles. Is this correct.
If I transfer project files from one platform to the other will i run into any issues?
Thanks for all and any help.

Although they operate in a similar fashion that are not fully compatible. You can open a FCE project in FCP, but once you've edited it in FCP you can't go back to FCE.

  • Which final cut is best for macbook pro with snow leopard?

which final cut is best for macbook pro with snow leopard?

Probably FCP 7 which is part of Final Cut Studio 3.

  • I can't get Final Cut back on my Macbook Pro

When I first installed Final Cut Studio on my Macbook Pro back in 2007, I manually removed the apps I didn't use that often to save space b/c my hard drive was almost full. I eventually removed all the apps from Studio, dragging them all to the trash can. Also deleted their folders in Library -> App Support to make room on the hard drive.
But now when I try reinstall these apps from the installation discs, Final Cut and others (like Soundtrack, Motion, etc.) are grayed out on the list, so I can't install them.
Did I go about deleting them in an incorrect manner that is now preventing me from adding them back?

You're wasting time because you have chosen to without provision. The first act performed upon receiving Final Cut installation disks is to create disk images of the application disks. Not only for backup but for time saving. Then if/when the time comes that you have to re-install the application you simply mount the disk images and perform the installation from them. This saves you the time of having to manually be there to swap through the DVD installation disks and the application is installed much faster because the installation is being read from your HD vs. the DVD's. Not to mention the time it takes to create the disk images in the first place mind you. Just do that during your off time. Create one when you wake up, one during your morning bike ride, one during your lunch hour, one during your evening bike ride, one during dinner, one while you're watching Survivor, and one before bed. Then boom - the next time you come into trouble and have to re-install everything from OS up you're optimized for a quick turnaround on your FCS re-installation. I do this for Macs in the classroom that need to be wiped clean for new lessons.
It takes about 15 mins. to install Snow Leopard on a blank HD and about and hour and a half to install FCS3 from the DVD's. Hardly a day or two. You can cut the FCS3 installation down to about 15 mins. if the application is saved to disk images on a mounted hard drive. So within 30 mins. you'll have a fresh OS and FCS installation using the method described.

  • Final Cut on 2.66 Macbook Pro?

Hey everybody, last year I purchased a 2.66 GHz unibody Macbook pro, and I want to start doing my video editing on it since I already use it for everything else. I have used Sony Vegas on a pc until now, and find it to be a pretty decent editor, but I would really rather be able to do it all on my laptop and with Final Cut Pro.
So my question is this, will Final Cut run smoothly on this computer? I tried the demo of adobe premier a few months ago, and HD footage from my HV-20 was really choppy to edit with, and not at all smooth looking in the preview window. From what I've heard Final Cut should run much smoother, but I was hoping someone on here might be able to tell me for sure on if this will work well, Vegas will run a really smooth preview even with hd footage and without any pre-rendering.
Oh, and here is the full specs for the laptop.
    2.66 Ghz
    4gb DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256MB + NVIDIA GeForce 9600M 256 MB
Also, does final cut require you to render your footage before you can edit it with a real time preview?
Thanks for any help, and to be clear, I understand that it will technically run on this computer, based on system requirements, I'm just wondering if it will run well.

    Welcome to the Boards
You can get it running well, and you should use another Codec (i.e., make the footage Pro Res) Alot of it depends on configurations and what you are doing with the footage. The more things you add (corrections etc.) it can slow things down - some things can be real time, some may not.
A high end tower configured properly (even an older tower) will often perform better than a newer laptop.
In other words, it may or may not be better depending on set up and other factors. That being said, I have done alot of editing on my laptops and it has been fine, but for some things it is not the same as a tower, PC or otherwise. Also my laptops spec out less than the one you have, other than having an express slot to hook up eSata dribes. (You want to have footage on drives other than your laptop drive for better performance.)

I wanted to know if anyone was having issues with the new OS X 10.9.4 and Final Cut Pro 7 Studio? Are there any other solution other than purchasing new editing software?

  • Exporting issues with Final Cut Pro X

I have been working on the project for a few weeks now and it's been working fine till today, Im trying to export several clips from the same footage that was divided into seperate project files and every time I try to share it gives me an error message with a frame number. I've seen other people are having the same issue but none of their solutions worked - the frame number is different everytime, I dissabled all effects and I tried copying and pasting the sequince into a new project file but that didn't work either.

i only can speek for my situation
    PROCESSOR 2.7GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
    MEMORY 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
FLASH STORAGE 512GB Flash Storage & mavericks mit eingeschaltetem app nap
i do not have a bad frames within my original file or project and a new user account was also not necessary,
but deactivation of APP NAPP was at least 2 times a solution. under mavericks i could export for the first time with no error
    thanks for the tip!!

  • Import issues with Final Cut Express HD

I shot video with a Nikon AW100 and made a quick video and everything worked fine.
The next day, I tried importing more clips for another video and it crashed every time. No settings were changed on the camera or software.
I trashed Final Cut, reinstalled it and got the same issue.
I installed it on another Mac with the same problem there as well.
Can anyone help me with this?

    Some info, please ...
What versions of OS X and FCE are you using?   Exactly what model Mac are you using?
What settings did you use in your camera when you shot the video that worked?  That didn't work?
What Easy Setup are you using in FCE?
A few things that may be contributing factors ...
Only FCE 4.01 on an Intel Mac supports AVCHD video
However your camera (the AW100) may not exactly be an AVCHD camera ...  it shoots MPEG4/AVC H.264 which is not quite the same as AVCHD
FCE does not work with H.264 video; the video needs to be transcoded to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec to be used in FCE (before being imported into FCE)
Two of the shooting modes in the AW100 are not supported in FCE:  1080p and iFrame

  • Sync issues with Final Cut

Been browsing around the Intertubes for a few days, and can't seem to find the answer for which I'm looking.
I'm an assistant editor at a small post house, and have had issues with media getting out of sync after having been captured. This is not another DV media sync question; I've had it occur on material being digitized from a Sony DVW-500 Digital Beta deck through an AJA Io I/O card, using RS-422 controller and the "Capture Clip" setting, not going through Capture Now.
The worst I personally have dealt with has been 1 or 2 frames of difference between audio and video, but it's very frustrating, especially when dealing with spot reels. Some of my compadres are telling me horror stories about large scale QT movies getting out of sync. However, this was a feature-length movie that we were importing, and the suspicion is that the partitions on our RAID array were causing problems (drives getting too full, etc.).
    Can anyone help?

t looks out of sync with lips, but when I've slipped it back or forward manually, it gets back in sync, both on layback of masters and in timelines.< </div>
Put a copy of the clip into a timeline, separate the audio from the video, get properties on each. Are they different lengths? If so, just adjust the length of the audio to match the video using Speed. If it's just one or two percent, there will be no discernible difference when the audio re-renders.
What's the source of the clips? If it's a Canon camera, no that Canon uses a weird DV codec and this has been a problem since, like, forever.

  • Final cut studio 2 and macbook pro 17?

I'm anxious to purchase Final Cut Studio 2, and a new MacBook Pro 17" laptop. Is FCS2 and this laptop 100% compatible? Will I be able to install and run FCS2 on this laptop successfully?
    Laptop specs:
MacBook Pro 17" Notebook 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, TI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor, dual -ink DVI support, 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM, external 500G hard drive for video storage (firewire 800).
    MacBook Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Well those that have tried running FCS 2 on a 17" laptop can't talk. It's not released yet...
However there is no reason why it shouldn't work well. Add an Io HD to the mix, and you'll edit HD on it all day long... we were showing this in the AJA booth at NAB a couple of weeks ago. Apple was running it too on laptops in their booth...
Figure it should be fine. With the advent of Pro Res, there's little you couldn't edit on a MBP... however there are some things you'll not be editing with it, such as 2 k files, or uncompressed HD. Pro res takes care of that though. It's really visually lossless.

  • Problem installing Final Cut Studio 2 on MacBook Pro

I'm trying to install Final Cut Studio 2 on a MacBook Pro / Snow Leopard but when it comes to choosing install options Final Cut Pro is greyed out and just says skip.
I've done some research and found people with the same problem but none of the fixes I've seen have worked. I also have Logic Pro installed - which I installed first - which seems to be causing the problem. I've tried removing Logic but am still seeing the same problem.
Besides a clean install does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Experiencing 'lag' & other issues with FCP 7.0.3 on MacBook Pro...please help!

    Hi all
Man, I've been having SUCH frustrations with my MBP running FCP lately - and it used to be 100% no more than 6 months ago?
Basically what happens is that the Canvas window starts lagging after a while - it sometimes looks as if the external HDD can't keep up with FCP anymore, regardless of whether I use my Mac HD as scratch drive, or my external. And I've tried it across numerous externals... I'm beginning to wonder if it's my logic board or GPU, or perhaps even my FW800 port?
Also, when I'm editing on my timeline and add new clips to the edit, this behaviour picks up. Sometimes, when I'm scrubbing or skipping through clips on the timeline, the Canvas displays funky green frames, starts laggin, or the worst: the frames between one cut and another jump around like crazy, even if I just play back at normal speed.
I've done everything I could - cleared space on my Mac HD (it's now got more than 50% free), repaired and verified disk permissions, run AppleJack, etc. etc.
Does anyone know what it could be? I'm seriously considering a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6 and FCS2, as well as upgrading from 4Gb to 8Gb RAM, but what bothers me most is how this used to never happen, and it's not like the work I'm doing is more intense or heavier than anything I've done before.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
    Here's my exact specs:

    Andy
Thanks... But again, why would I have to do this now when it was never a problem before?
In any case, all the footage I'm using in this project is XDCAM EX, the only difference being that some footage is 720, while other footage is 1080, and then there's also a variation in terms of interlaced and progressive footage accross the board (it's a rock band documentary, don't ask! )... Could this have something to do with it?
I kinda doubt it, cos one of the TV shows I work on has the same codec, resolution and other settings accorss the board, and I experience the same stutter on these projects...
