Is my K9N6PGM2-V mobo defective?

I've been working at building my first computer with high hopes, but have had nothing but troubles with it thus far, I'm worried if my motherboard is the problem, otherwise Idk what all is wrong.
My hardware is as follows;
MSI K9N6PGM2-V GeForce 6100 Socket AM2+ MB  with the most recent bios I could get from MSI Live Update
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0Ghz processor, with this fan/heatsink and Arctic Silver paste http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1683510302 4
2 sticks of Kingston DDR2 1Gb Pc2-5300 667Mhz ram
and a PNY Verto GeForce 8600GT 512mb card model VCG86512GXEB
In this pre-powered case http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=TC3J-4030%20P  (I know the no name PSU sucks, but I;m using it until a new one arrives in the mail.)
The first problem I've encountered before in stalling the video card is a high CPU temp, when in bios, it sits at around 54-58C according to the bios.  Ignoring the high temp, I installed Windows XP, and updated all the drives and motherboard, as well as downloaded all the windows updates.  It still ran fine, aside from the higher heat.  A utility from MSI claims it is running cooler than what the bios tells me, claiming that while Windows is at idle, it's only running at about 33C.  When I boot the computer I keep getting a CMOS Checksum error, and have to keep telling the mobo to load optimal settings.  I also have not been able to get my PNY graphics card to function when I hook it up.  I get vga output from it when I first install it and power on, but then once going past the CMOS checksum error, and telling it to load optimal, the computer restarts with neither the onboard, or the graphis card giving off any vga output, so I'm left staring at a blank monitor, while the computer boots and loads windows...  I've gone in and disabled onboard vga, as well as tried a few different settings on vga memory sharing, with no change in results.  As you can probably tell I'm a complete noob at trying to build my own pc, but from what I gather the temps my cpu is reaching is at the max tolerances, and I haven't even put the case side walls back on yet...   My only thought on the temp is that I need a better heatsink/fan combo, but at at a complete loss as to the rest.  Any help anybody can offer would be great
sorry for such a long post...

I have no clue how to tell the max 12v amp, it's not written on the packaging for the cpu, as I bought it OEM from TigerDirect, and as for the fan, this is the second time I've redone the cooling grease.  I had left the stock gunk on the fan the first time, with the same results, boy was that stuff a mess to get off.  I'm worried about doing the thermal grease many more times, as I don't really know a good way to clean and apply the stuff without getting it all over.  I cleaned off the original stuff with a Q tip and a small bit of rubbing alcohol, and used a credit card to apply the stuff.  Like I said, I'm completely new to this...

  • New! MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 MOBO/Will not send signal to monitor/

Hi there, I've tried  few topics already on the forum but none were unique to my problem. Let's see if I can make this as clear as possible.
I bought this MOBO in order to run a computer that was given to me. Here are the Specs:
    AMD Athlon x2
    400W PSU
    Nvidia 9800GT
    250GB Seagate HDD
Every time I start the computer the fans turn on and even the CD Drive Operates, however my monitor has gotten "No Signal" every time. This is a standard VGA going straight into the motherboard. Tried 2 different monitors with the same result. Even tried without the video card in, no signal.
Now, I have another monitor with me that supports DVI. So now I have tried DVI from the monitor to the GPU, still, no signal.
NOTE* Before you say that BIOS won't run because of the PSU, this computer ran with a better MOBO and only a 280W PSU for about a year before it conked out.
I suspect that I have installed the MOBO wrong, but I'm interested in what the community has to say.

    Let's try this again.
    Here is my PSU
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4974033&CatId=1078
    Max AMPS: 20A
    The power connector is in.
    CPU
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1315482&CatId=4919
    RAM is KingstonKVR 2GB
I will try running it outside of the case with only one RAM card. I still find the CPU dosent have enough power theory odd only because it utilized only a 280W power supply in the past. Only the MOBO and PSU are new.

  • Which Chipset Drivers for my MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 mobo?

Hi - I was over on the nVidia website looking for the latest chipset drivers and video drivers for my MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard.  I am a bit confused about which chipset drivers and video drivers I should use.  Here's the MSI link to my motherboard stats:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1863
Question 1 - Can you provide a link to the nVidia website to the correct chipset drivers?
Question 2 - Can you provide a link to the nVidia website to the correct video drivers?
I am about to move my PC's components to a new tower, in addition to reformatting and partitioning my hard drive.  I want to make sure I have the latest drivers.
    Thanks
    Joe

The latest drivers appear to be the ones on the MSI site here: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1863
The only drivers I found on the nVidia website are much older: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_winxp32_8.26_11.09.html

  • MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 -WinXP Home- Eide HDD -

I purchased this  MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 MB with a Bare Bones kit from Tiger. I assembled everything and put in an old Maxtor Eide 120 Gig HDD from
my wife's previous computer so I could clone it to a Seagate Barracuda 500 Gig that came with the kit.
It would come up to a green error screen with some instructions and hex info if I tried to boot normally.
So I went to Safe Mode and tried to load drivers from the CD and it came up with an error message ... DVD "Failed to Load Hardware Monitor Driver" . I went through various setups
in the Bios and took out the sata DVD drive and installed an Eide DVD at the end of the HD cable all with the same results.
I started thinking it was a video problem so I changed the Bios setup from the default PCI to the Internal setting and went to the display settings in Safe Mode.
There was no info or ID about a video chip set just "unrecognized". I disabled the driver and figured if I rebooted it might recognize the Nvidia chips.
No Dice. But... Now I cant get past the text loading screen for Safe Mode, it just hangs at Drivers\Mup.sys.   if I try to load Windows normally I no longer get the green error screen
but do get a powder blue Windows Copyright screen that's all jumbled and then it hangs also. It sometimes has a splash of orange but mostly just blue.
So... I still think it's a video thing but where do I go from here without being able to get into Safe Mode?
Is there a jumper to disable the internal video on this board or just in the Bios setup.
I have UBCD4Win and that loads in fine off the CD with multiple VGA resolutions but how do I get my XP Home to correctly recognize this MB's video ?
How do I get Safe Mode to fully load again?
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

  • K9N6PGM2-V2 DISABLE ONBOARD VGA INSTALL 6600 PCI-e

    Hi All
I have put together a basic multimedia computer for a friend using all new parts (listed below) All went well with the XP install and it seems to be running fine, Another pleasant build apart from the graphics>
I want to disable the onboard graphics and use a NEW MSI 6600 (non SLI) graphics card basically for the dual view and S-VIDEO output options, I have set the preference in the BIOS to PCI-E disabling the onboard VGA, I connected the monitor to the 6600 but no picture is displayed and found the onboard VGA is still working, Would I need to remove the onboard drivers to be able to use the 6600?
    K9N6PGM2-V2 MOBO
    SEMPRON 140 2.7GHz AM3 CPU
    CORSAIR XMS2 512mb x2 RAM
    A-POWER 680W PSU
Any help would be greatly appreciated

okay I hope this helps because i had a similar problem where my gtx 275 coop would not display unless the onboard vga was installed, but i have an msi nf980-g65 mobo, so i'm hoping this can help. so before doing anything switch your setting that should be called "Primary Graphics Adapter" to "Internal" if thats what it says in your bios, (you can have the graphics card in or out of the pc its fine) then go into windows if you have it installed, then go to device manager and delete the onboard vga from the display adapters. then download the latest drivers for your card (you don't need the card to be recognized or installed to download the drivers) but dont install the drivers yet, then download Driver Sweeper, reboot into safe mode then open driver sweeper, and check every box related to nvidia, then clean it. (also if windows reinstalled the drivers for the onboard vga, delete it again from the device manager and clean the drivers again with driver sweeper) then install the latest drivers for your graphics card, it should already be on your desktop or wherever you saved it to. then reboot and see if your graphics card picks up video, and then if it does go into windows and look in the device manager and if your onboard vga and your graphics card are shown in device manager, then don't do anything and reboot into the BIOS and set the primary graphics adapter back to PCI-E and i'm not sure where its located but look into the chipset feature option or wherever and it should show a setting called Onboard VGA or Integrated VGA and set it to disabled, then it should take off the onboard vga from the computer and your graphics card should still pick up a video signal. but the feature would only pop up for me if the graphic card was enabled so look hard for it. i hope this helps cause i had that same problem where it need the mGPU enabled for the 275 to be enabled

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum: system in safe mode?!

This has happened twice, both when I rebooted the computer by pushing the reset button.
A message saying "The system is in safe mode, turn off the overclocking feature in BIOS" came up - except that I didn't put the system in overclocking mode in the first place.
A related problem is my memory are DDR400, but the BIOS reports it as DDR333...
    Is my mobo defective?

Have you manually set your memory timings it's quit important that you do especially as some corsair maodules need to be run @2.5 on AMD64s.
I'd advise you check the recommended timings on corsair's site
update bios with your manual settings  including memory voltage.
if unsure check here Bios Guides  - bottom 2 items - Nforce3 Cell menu & dram settings. as Glenn said thats probably what's caused your safe mode message.
run memtest to check stability Memtest86+

  • Problem with K7T Pro (MS-6330)

I've been used MSI K7T Pro (MS-6330) for 2 years and it worked just fine. But recently the problem occurred. After I've upgraded CPU from Duron 600 to TB 1.2 GHz, when I run a heavy-loaded application such as 3DMark, 3D games (UT2003) my computer will stop working (IMO: my case just like the classic K7T Pro) but when I touched the SC1155 chip, it just warm (it won't burn my finger). So I'm confused that is my mobo defected or not?
Oh, almost forgot .. my mobo was modified and can adjust multiplier.
    FYI:
I've tried underclock CPU to 950 MHz and I've found that 950 work fine (or at least it use very long time to run full-loaded and then die). Once I forgot to plugged electric-cable for my heatsink fan and temp goes 66-68C and still working normally (not running 3D app.)
So, can anyone suggest me what is the problem with my mobo?
Thank you very much and apologize for my language  :P
    My Spec:
AMD Athlon (TB) 1.2 GHz (but now run @950MHz) VCore 1.55 (tried 1.55-1.85 result is the same)
MSI K7T Pro (MS-6330) modified to adjust multiplier
    250W Powersupply
    256 MB PC133
    Winfast GF2MX 32 MB
    SB Live! Value
    Lite-on DVD16x
    2 Harddisk (40GB and 4 GB)

    Hi,
RMA the board, contact your nearest MSI office and ask for the RMA department.
There is not much more you can do.

  • W2k + usb = hang ?

For the life of me, I can't get USB working on my new PC.  Whenever I plug in _ANY_ USB device, the PC hangs on me.  Sometimes it starts working again, but my mouse or keyboard will stop working.  My mouse and keyboard are both PS/2.
    PC specs:
    3.2 ghz P4 (NW)
    MSI 875P Neo-FISR
512 mb 3200 DDR Crucial RAM
    350w PSU
    Old GF3 video card
    1 hard drive
    1 DVD-ROM
    Bios setup:
    USB Controller - Enabled
USB Device IDE Config: All Device
OS: W2k w/ SP4 (and _ALL_ other critical updates installed)
In System Devices I have the following listed:
    - Intel(R) 82801EB USB Host Conroller (x4)
    - Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
    - USB Root Hub (x4)
I also have the latest Intel Chipset drivers installed.
I verified all my USB devices in 2 other PCs.  They work perfectly in those PCs.
I clicked the "Refresh USB drivers" link on my MSI cd after I installed SP4
Everything else is working perfectly except for this.  Is my mobo defective?  I'd hate to have to take it apart and send it back to newegg.  I'm installing XP now just in case but I hope someone can give me other suggestions.  Anyone?

Welp... I think I'm screwed.  I Installed XP w/ SP1 and got the following messages:
    Quote
"One of the USB attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
Of course, I can't click the message because my mouse and keyboard stop working.
    Help please.

  • W520: all 4 memory sticks defective, how can this be? Mobo-issue?

    G'day
I have a W520 i7-2630QM. In addition to the factory installed Samsung memory chip I last year installed three Kingston 4GB sticks, for a total of 16GB. After having done a factory reinstall, I ran the hardware check tool from the Lenovo toolbox. It told me a memory stick was defective. I then ran W7-64 memory diagnostics, which found nothing. Then I ran the Memtest86 - 4.20, which is still running but to my surprise at 43% already tells me *all four sticks* are defective(?)
I have made a picture of the screen (sorry for the flash light, couldn't seem to disable that on my wife's camera):
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51/img6025k.jpg
How is it possible that 4 sticks all at once go bad? Normally its one, now it is 4? Could this be a defective mobo or something?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions :-)
    Bye,
Moderator note: garbled image URL fixed. (and next time, turn off your flash )

    Hey Sjaanbanaan,
You can test your memory cards one at a time and see which card works on the W520. The problem with doing them in pairs is that wont know which card is faulty.
Here is a link for that can walk you through doing a memory test:

  • Bad audio connection on P-35 Platinum moBo, while capturing analog video?

Before I give up, I'm reaching out to MSI and any persons suffering from out-of-sync audio and video capture issues while using Pinnacle Studio Video editing software. Studio Ultimate HD v.14.
I've posted numerous inquiries to the Pinnacle Support team, the Pinnacle Forum site, as well as the GrassValley (Canopus 110 or 300, I was thinking about trying that) and really never got anywhere.
A few people had mentioned maybe the sync issue could be caused by a bad analog signal and it will drop video or audio frames hence the sync problem. Bringing the video into the capture mode in Studio is fine, but the audio has about a 6 second latency delay, which never recovers.
Could it be the REALTEK HD Sound Audio on my P-35 MoBo, maybe bad? I play music, and everything else coming out of my speakers sound fine, it's just the syncing issues with a PCI device that never locks in both the Video with the audio, because there are two different incoming devices.  Analog camera video-out to PCI Video-IN, and audio out from analog camera to onboard, MoBo Realtek audio input.
The PCI-500 capture that originally came with my first Studio product (Studio movieboard 12.1) has NO Audio RCA input, only FireWire, S-video, and Video IN and OUT)
    P-35 Platinum MS-7345 Mobo
    Windows XP  Home Edition SP3
    Intel Core 2 Quad CPU  Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs)
2.4 GHz, 3328 MB Physical RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT  512 Memory Size
    Realtek HD Audio Output Sound
    DirectX version: 9.0c
    Monitor: Viewsonic VX2035wm Series
WD 500 GB HDD / WD 74GB RAPTOR HDD
    Pinnacle PCI-500 Capture card
    Nero9
I use the MSI Live Update 4 to update drivers, BIOS, VGA,and Utilities. This system is about four years old.  I'm just afraid to flash or update BIOS, thinking I could screw things up.
So I guess  my question here is to ask, if maybe the audio input jack on my P-35 Mobo could be defective?  Thank you!

Have you try out with a standalone add on sound card? Sometimes, sync problem can be due to processing power or RAM space needed for rendering and merging.

  • Troubles with a new ThinkPad W 520 - defective at receipt 3 weeks ago

The computer ( art. 42823JG, SN xxxxx)  was defective when we recieved it ... ("freeze" at first utilisation)
We downloaded a lot of tests, awaited a technicien visit, awaited 2 more days for a carrier to bring the laptop to the service center and a full week without any news.
Now the support inform us that the mother-board is out of order and that there is no available spare part. They also said "it is written on the warranty  that, in case of no disponibility of spare parts, no repare time can be assured"
Nice to ear, speaking of a a brand new professionnel computer !
Did anybody already have the same kind of troubles ?
What kind of solution can we ask for  (our son is in university and cannot work properly for his exams) ?
Thanks for attention (and sorry for bad english)...

I had similar problems with getting a replacement mobo. First I sent it to Lenovo. Then they replied that mobo was out of stock. I called and told them I need the computer for an out of town trip. The escalation department found a mobo and ordered an on site service. They sent the W520 back to me, and they sent the mobo to the service tech. He came to my house and took the computer apart. The we noticed the wrong mobo was sent. The tech put the computer back together. The correct mobo arrived and the tech put it in.
Lenovo has done so much for me. But my computer is still not working correctly. The original problem is that the color on any external monitor is not correct. There is a bluish greenish tint which cannot be adjusted to match the laptop monitor. The next step was doing a re-image which did not correct the problem either. I am now reinstalling and upgrading the drivers and updates.
I bought this computer in June and Lenovo even sent me a new one due to a problem with the sale price. Instead of giving me the discount on the one that I had ordered, Lenovo sent a second on at the correct price. I sent the first one back as per Lenovo and go the full amount credited to my Master Card.
The first computer also had a problem with the color tint but I did not worry about it since I was sending it back any way.
I feel Lenovo and the support personnel have gone overboard trying to fix the problem If I only used the laptop without any external monitor I would not notice the color problem. But when you have two external monitors and they do not look the same way as the internal display it is very aggravating.
I am going to call tech support tomorrow and see what options are available.
Has anyone else had a problem like this, where the external monitor has a greenish or bluish tint?
    Best regards
    Danny

  • My New MSI Mobo Will Not Speak Up!

I just replaced the motherboard in my computer with a new MSI P4M900M2-L motherboard (VIA Chipset). I did a "repair" install of Windows, re-activated it, and everything in the system is now working fine except...the integrated sound function on the mobo does not work. I've downloaded and successfully installed all recommended drivers from MSI website using "Live Update Online" feature. Also downloaded and ran MSI InfoView XP utility. All looks good on this utility except the SOUND tab which says "Sound Card Not Detected!". The Windows Device Manager shows an "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" but its properties sheet says "No Drivers are installed for this device". If you click on the "Update Driver..." button on the Properties "Driver" tab, nothing at all happens. All the Driver info on this tab shows either "Not Available" or "Unknown".
I connected the motherboard on a non-conducting surface outside the case. Same result; MSI InfoView utility reports "Sound Card Not Detected". I have also verified that the MB mounting holes line up correctly with the case mounting standoffs - no shorts.
On advice from MSI support, I RMA returned the board to the vendor and they sent me a new one - same model, P4M900M2. I installed the new one and...same problem! Everything else works perfectly. I went through the process again of updating drivers using MSI's Live Update Online. It scanned my system and said all drivers were up-to-date. I loaded the CD-ROM that came with the mobo and clicked on the RealTek Driver button, but nothing at all happened. I browsed the CD and in the "Sound" folder found two setups - one for VIA HD and one for RealTek. Tried running the RealTek setup; it went partway through and then said "Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!!". (Thanks for all the useful info!) Then tried the VIA HD setup. It ran a bit & then said "ERROR - We can't find HD audio device". So nothing worked.
It seems quite unlikely that I received two defective motherboards in a row, each with the exact same defect !!?? Seems like there must be some driver or setting or jumper or something that's preventing the sound function from being recognized. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Joy! My problem is solved. I received the following from MSI Technical Support (it took them two tries, unfortunately; first they concluded that the motherboard was bad and told me to RMA it, which I did; only to have exact same problem with 2nd board.) Anyway, this solution worked like a charm. The key, apparently, is deleting that Microsoft UAA HD Audio driver under System Devices.
Hope this info may help some other poor soul out there fighting the same problem.
Thanks to Bosskiller and Del UK for all the suggestions.
    Here's what tech support sent:
Be sure the Microsoft HD UAA patch has been applied: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/en-us ** The Microsoft HD UAA device drivers interfere with the Realtek drivers and prevent them from loading. The cure is to 1) Open the control panel and launch System 2) Click on the Hardware tab and then launch the Device manager. 3) Go to the bottom and click on System Devices 4) Look for Microsoft UAA HD Audio driver. 5) Right mouse click on it and first disable the driver, and then unload it. 6) Reboot the machine. 7) There should be no problem now with loading the HD audio drivers. Please check and be sure the bios setup has the on board audio setting been set to enable or Auto. Please have all on board audio header removed from any case front audio or other adapter connections and only connect the speaker/headset to the rear audio output port (green) and retest. Please test out the mb and components outside the case with mb box to support the board. This can prevent any short or grounding problem to the mb which can cause audio to stop working as well.

  • Km3m mobo shut down after a few seconds

i have been playing with this new mobo for a while now trying to get it to work
it keeps shutting down after 15 or so seconds, so i tried every possible combination
with the power sw and reset sw and such. still had problem so i came on here to read up on similar problems. then i read some advice that cpu might be overheating or heating to quickly and is causing comptuer to shut off. so i took out the cpu and turned her on and she didnt not shut down so i am assuming that i have this problem. the advice given to the other guy was to make sure the hsf paste was on correctly. now is the paste that improtant or is the hsf defect any advice?

yeah i didnt put the paste on the die, didnt think it made such a difference, have to wait a little bit to go get some more paste. but now the original psu is not working,( it was an hour ago), i got another that is but i cant keep it. the fan works when you do the green wire black wire trick so i am really confused now. yes wires are connected properly
    oh rates on psu non- working one  +3 @ 28a, +5@40a, +12@17a
    3+5 total max 220w, total 380w

I was thinking the new usb-wifi has factory defect so i tried to test it on my laptop, (of course i disabled the built-in wifi), i use the usb-wifi without a problem so im now suspecting the culprit is the mobo.
    a quick history:
i was using lan before, i experience something like i can connect to my yahoo messenger but cant browse. i uninstalled the smbus( i just tried it , i dont know wat it does) in the device manager and reinstalled it with the cd that comes with my mobo. but it fix my browsing problem. now when i tried this. its still the same.
