Is my Mac good enough really?

I think that I have the minimum Mac requirements for FCE HD. Does anyone out there have a mac similar to mine that can attest to FCE HD working properly or you being able to use all of its functions/ options?
Thanks for the feedback (in advance),
José M. Cuervo...

You see my Mac's qualifications. But I used to only have 512 MBs of RAM. I just got FCE 3.0 a few months ago. It ran okay with 512 megs of RAM. (I've since upgraded to 1 GB, which is sublime!)
The Mini is booting off of an external firewire drive (one of those cute "Mini Stacks" you can get over at Macsales.com). That does help speed up the hard drive a little, I suppose. And I've got another external hard drive for storing media (which is what everyone recommends). I'm not sure how much fun I would have had with the Mini (when it had only 512 MBs of RAM) if I was trying to do all my work on the slower Mini laptop drive, but with the external firewire ones, it really wasn't so bad.
If what you've got is what you've got as far as hardware goes, I'd say, go for it! Get your foot in the door. Then you can upgrade to something faster later.

  • Will specs on an iMac 24in 2.8ghz be good enough for video prod-Mac Newbie?

Hi guys, I do pretty high end editing in Sony Vegas but wanted to move to Final Cut Pro and Mac workflow. I've been a life time windows user and have been thinking about taking the plunge for about a year now.
I finally just purchased an iMac 24inch. The related specs are the standard 2.8 ghz, 2 GB ram, and ATI radeon 256 mb. It's still in the box. On my way home I kept wondering about the specs especially since I'm new to Mac. On a windows, those specs might not be that great. Will this be good enough for workflow in FCP. I'm going to upgrade the memory in the near future.
I was concerned about the graphics card? Will I see slowness or stuttering while editing with a lot of footage, rendering, etc. Thanks so much! I want to take it out of the box so bad!

It'll be fine for DV and HDV...footage imported from tapeless systems like P2 or XDCAM EX.
The graphics card doesn't come into play much with editing...only certain filters really use the GFX card...otherwise it is not important.
It is limiting in that you are only able to use Firewire drives, and since the computer only has one firewire bus, you might run into issues capturing this footage from firewire cameras...the drive and the camera will be using one firewire bus. But I haven't had too many issues with that...daisy chaining works for most of us.

Purchase a couple of these when they go on sale.
Start burning all the photos onto DVDs.
At least you'll have all your photos if your computer, time machine or any other backup you use goes bonkers.

  • Is mac book pro good enough to run final cut and after effects?

is mac book pro good enough to run final cut and after effects?

Yes it is. I have two at my office working fine.
Just note. FCP has already delivered the universal binary so you won;t have any trouble. For After Effects, Adobe has not released the binary yet so the worst that will happen is that you might have a little delay opening the application. We are a professional media organization and we can rely on our intel based macs. Don't worry.

  • HT1923 hi, my mac air is really low on disk space, can i remove iTunes (which is huge) to an external hard drive to free up space and then just run it from the hard drive. instead of taking space on the mac? even if the mac no longer has enough to accommo

Hi, my mac air is really low on disk space, can I remove itunes (which is huge) to an external hard drive to free up space?...and then run it from the hard drive instead of the mac, even if the mac no longer has space to accomodate the size of the library?

    Yes.
Copy your music iTunes Library folder to the external drive and change the Advanced settings in iTunes to point to this new location.
Once you're happy with these changes you can delete the same Library from your User account to free up space on the internal drive.

  • Will 13 in Macbook Pro with Retina 2.6 ghz be good enough for engineering student

I'm purchasing a new macbook and not really sure which one to get. I have been thinking about getting the 13 in 2.6 ghz Macbook Pro with Retina, but will that be good enough for engineering programs such as AutoCad?

I agree that it would be slow, but the biggest limitation is RAM. 4GB simply won't,  er, cut it.
A similar mac with at least 8GB, and a fast external drive, would work, even if not very speedy.
It really comes up to time, as babylonslim said.
If you need to cut very quickly, you need a machine like he described. On the other hand, I have no doubt that my very own, very old 2010 17" MBP could do the job - it has 8GB, and I use an external drive connected through e-SATA. The GPU is not nearly as fast as present day ones, and it only has a  dual core i7 GPU. It would take longer, but it would work.

  • Help pls....have os x 10.4 not good enough for itunes or iPhone?

    Hi All,
I have a macbook version 10.4.11. I have had it for a long time but honestly i probably use about 1 % of it! And i really don't know much about how to use it, i just use it for the internet.
I now have an iPhone, but i don't have a good enough version of iTunes. I have tried to download the latest version, but it says i need at least os x 10.5. I can't seem to find out how to get this? Do i need to buy it or can i just download it? I can find a lot about getting snow leopard, but that says it requires at least os x 10.5 to download it but i don't have that.
So what do i need to do? Do i need to buy os x 10.6? I just can't seem to find os x 10.5 anywhere which is what i need and want i i have got it right?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Is $1299 entry level 21.5 inch 2013 iMac good enough for a novice to learn Logic Pro?

I am wondering if the standard entry level iMac is good enough to learn Logic Pro. From what I have researched the top of the line 2012 Mac mini is more power full than the entry level 2013 iMac and I would end up paying more for the iMac. But I am also thinking about how the new 2013 iMac has the new haswell processor which is supposedly better than the ivy bridge on the 2012 Mac mini (I do not really know about any of this I am just going off of what I have been researching) so the 2012 Mac mini may be more powerful than the 2013 entry level iMac technically but maybe the iMac will run more efficiently because from what I hear it does not get as hot and uses less power or something. Also, should I wait for the Mac mini to come out with a refresh with the has well processor or will I be fine with the current 2012 Mac mini with the ivy bridge processor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. P.S. Does anyone know exactly just how much better if at all the haswell is than the ivy bridge because if it is not that big of an improvement I would just get the current top of the line 2012 Mac mini, as I really would like to get started on learning Logic Pro.

The latest top of the line Mac Mini is much more powerful than the latest bottom of the line iMac..
It is much easier to add your own memory to a Mac Mini than an iMac... and much cheaper!
    More memory = better performance
    Mac Mini 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 + 4GB RAM = $799
Add 16 GB RAM from Amazon for $160
    Total = $959

  • Is This Good Enough To Run Logic?

    Hey all,
Just joined here, and I'm loving the amount of information on here, makes a very good read during lunch break
Right, here's my scenario, hopefully some of you seasoned Mac'ers can help me out with this one.
A friend of mine just told me a friend of theirs (blah blah) has a G4 PowerMac for sale, which is the one with two CPU's clocked at approximately 800MHz, and she's upgraded the RAM to 3GB. I'm not sure what OS version is on it, but it does already have Logic Pro 8 installed on it. Is it really good enough for speedy editing, or will I be waiting ages for it to convert and process stuff?
Thanks in advance, I appreciate all help given

  • IBook G4...Video Card good enough?

On the 14" iBook, is the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 with 32MB of dedicated DDR SDRAM good enough to be handle Photoshop CS2, and other high-end graphics software? I'm looking at getting an iBook for Graphics creation and other Media, but I'm not sure if the 32MB will be able to handle it. Can anyone help me out here?
Also, Can I get the Video Card upgraded at a later date? Incase I buy it, realize I need a better card, can I go out and buy one or would I have to get a whole new system?

As long as you are talking about 2D graphics which photoshop, illustrator, etc. are designed to handle, 32 MB of Vram is plenty. Even 8 MB of Vram would do the job. I have been working for years with photoshop on a power Mac 7600 with 6 MB of Vram.
3D graphics call for a lot of Vram, especially in up to date games. The latest iBook graphics card also supports core image technology.

  • Is the new macbook's performance good enough for me?

    Hi,
I didn't see any topic for the new MacBook, so I just put this question here, hope you people don't really mind, sorry for that.
My plan for next couple years on was to build a PC by myself, and buy a new laptop that have a nice design but can deliver enough performance for my need.  Here is what I was thinking about.
Sometimes I need to do something hard and intensive, also need playing video games for fun, which these are not quiet often.  Which is exactly why I want to build a desktop PC for.  Other times I need to use GIMP and I want to learn programming, knowing to use commands, or creating something new just for fun, also playing games that is not very intensive on performance (Minecraft, Left 4 Dead 2, GMOD(which could be intensive sometimes)).  But most of the times, I am just taking to my friends on internet, watching videos, or making a document maybe checking e-mails.
Consider about that, my laptop will be the primary platform, and only uses Desktop PC for heavy works.  It might also save some money for electricity :-)
My current Dell Inspiron 3000 was good, but sometimes I thought the N3530 was under-power, that does not benefits me on performance.  I have a mid-2012 MacBook Air from school which is faster, and is more than enough to do schoolwork and web broswing. The new MacBook I checked was pretty impressive and I like that design, but a lot of people have argued that performance, afraid that performance could only do light tasks.
These days I see the report that New MacBook was on par with mid-2011 MacBook Air on performance, so I guess it could benefits me.  If the performance is good enough, I will go with this one, regardless about price-performance thing.

Think of the new Macbook as a powerful iPad that can run OS X.....is that powerful enough for you? Sexy as they are, and I want one too, they're just an entry level computer.

  • Maps - Is Close Good Enough?

I've been using Apple Maps and the turn-by-turn feature.   I really don't care about how pretty things look.  I care about how well they work.
Don't turn in your Tom-Tom or Garmin Nuvi's yet unless being close is good enough.
I used it last satureday to locate the closest Home Depot Hardware store.  Great job.  It found a lot of locations and allowed me to choose which I wanted directions to.
The turn-by-turn took got me in the correct direction and since I know the area I agreed with the directions.  HOWEVER, as I followed the directions I got to my destination a full .6 miles BEFORE the turn-by-turn instructions indicated that I had arrived.  That's 6 tenths of a mile offf ! ! !
In another situation, the directions took me through a major road closure.   Fortunately I knew the road had been closed for nearly a year (yes a year) and avoided the direction.
Depending on different situations this could be very dangerious.   I'm going to keep testing but I'm not going to give up my dedicated GPS for loooog time!   My GPS got me from North Texas to the El Paso, to Lareado, and back again.
I hope Apple is paying attention to these problems and will TEST the mapping app better.

Nokia should update the maps locally and timely. Nokia China team should take care of China maps to give a better user experience.

  • Is Iweb blog good enough

    Hey everyone
I'm going to add a blog to my iweb website. My website has quite a few visiters. I was wondering your thoughts on the blogging function, will it be good enough for me?
    Thanks
    Bevan

To allow comments in iWeb, click the Inspector button at the bottom of the page to open it up. In Inspector, click the RSS button and then check mark "Allow comments."
The comments block will appear at the bottom of all your entries.
As for blogging, iWeb is great for someone that doesn't need all the bells and whistles of a serious blogging tool. Like everything else in iLife, it gives you the basics. If you want other options, then you need to understand there are 2 types of blogging tools: 1. Web based (runs on the server) like Movable Type (my favorite) and Wordpress. 2. Software based (runs on your computer) like Metateque. Here's a link for some software based ones:
    http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/webpublish/fwblogtools_p.html
If you want the power of a web based app, there are ways to install it locally - I have Movable Type installed locally on my MacBook. However, if you don't know anything about Apache, MySQL and PHP then you'd want to stay with the software based options.

  • Ubuntu, postfix, dovecot, spammassassin, memcached, clamav, good enough?

Hello all, I am getting off the ground trying to do small time email hosting and have my first customer. I have setup Postfixadmin/postfix, dovecot, spamassassin, memcached, clamav, and etc as listed below. I use mostly webmin to manage the server and the postfixadmin page. Is there any recommendations anyone can make of applications I can run, or anything to make sure my email server is good enough for hosting customer email? I ran some mxtoolbox tests, and as far as I can tell it seems ok as seen below as well. Does anyone have some best practices, or tips, or anything? I am not too familiar with SPF, and even though I didn't really do much with it I don't think, it seems to show ok. I got an SSL cert and have it setup on the server as well.I see there are some settings I can change in postfixadmin to allow / use mail quote settings...
