Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:

Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.

To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:

I have an older Windows ME that I'm considering tackling again to use for e-mail and web surfing. I want to be able to use both at the same time. I am on cable internet using built-in ethernet. I will have to get an ethernet card for the Windows machine. I also need a router since cable company won't allow multiple connections through their modem even though it is possible. They are the ones who said to get a router. What compatibility issues would I have between the router and iMac and the router and Windows machine? If you want a regular wired router, any standard type should work with the Mac and PC. I used to use a Linksys router, and it worked with the default (Using DHCP) settings on the Mac. It even worked with no special effort with my old Mac OS 9 machine. Linksys and most router makers (except for Apple) are Windows-oriented, so they will definitely work with PC's running any version of Windows after 98.
Here's how it works when you use a router. Without the router, the computer is connected directly to the ISP's connection. Based on the type of connection (such as DSL or cable), your ISP may have provided special instructions and/or software for establishing the connection with the computer. When you connect the router, the router (acting like a little computer) takes responsibility for establishing and maintaining the connection to the ISP. If you need to enter special settings, you enter them on the router, typically by using any Internet browser (from the computer) to access the router.
Once the router is set up with the ISP connection, the computers just connect to the router over the local network. No big deal; any standard router should be able to do it. The hardest part will be getting the router connected to the ISP, not connecting the router to the local network computers.

You run Windows in Parallels or Fusion. Then in Windows you install the program.

Problem: Recently when I open iTunes it doesn't work; the little pinwheel just keeps spinning.

You need to be updated to iTunes 11.2.2.
You might want to consider running the combo updater over your install to refresh your files.

After running the combo updater, select Software Updater and update iTunes.
If iTunes fails to open after updating, hold down the Option key when launching iTunes. It will ask you to locate your iTunes Library.
Note: I've seen users with their iTunes Library on an external drive spin like this when the drive was failed to be seen in Disk Utility. Run Repair Drive on the external drive to fix this issue.

MAC: color management failure. Mac OSX 10.4.3 compatible with PS Elements 2.0?

Can't print directly from PS Elements 2 on my Mac: G5 single 1.8GHz processor; 1.5Meg RAM; over 220 gig free space on hard drive; Mac OSX 10.4.3; Epson Photo R800 printer and paper with Epson ICC profiles installed and working.
PSE 2 slaughters the color on printout (this shows up in preview, too). I've downloaded and installed the "Ignore EXIF Color Space" plug-in, it loads during PSE 2 startup, but the sRGB color space is still indicated in the PSE 2 print dialogues.
A second problem: iPhoto indicates that files written by PSE 2 (.psd or .jpeg) are unreadable and will not open them.
However, I can open these PSE 2 files and print them with the Mac Preview application and everything seems to work ok. This all feels like an incompatibility issue between PSE 2 and Mac OSX 10.4.3. Will I have to buy PSE 3? (Although the Adobe web site only says PSE 3 is compatible with Mac OS X v.10.2.8 or v.10.3; there is no mention of "or higher" or of Mac OSX 10.4.3 in particular.)

Unfortunately, I did not have the latest version of Disk Warrior. Your probably right that zeroing the drive was overkill, but what a great feeling to start over! I feel like I just took a shower, broke up with my girlfriend, and moved to Italy to start a new life.
I went ahead and installed a retail version of OSX 10.4.3 and I am back up and running. I am going to stay a away from the latest OSX software updates for now to see how things play out.

Zeroing is not necessary in most cases. A bad node
can frequently be repaired by Alsoft Disk Warrior
(assuming your data is backed up). If your data
isn't backed up, a bad node can often be read through
by Prosoft Data Rescue.
If I didn't catch you in time to stop your zeroing,
if installing the operating system you have
difficulty with zeroing, then perhaps the drive has
failed or its connector has failed. Be sure when you
go to install to only install the operating system
that came with the computer or a newer retail
operating system.

I just upgraded my OS to Mavericks X, and my previously installed Photoshop CS4 failed to run when I tried to launch it.
I even downloaded a brand new version from a link here that was in a "Mavericks X" column, giving me SOME confidence that it might just function on the new OS.
So far, I've been down 3 days since upgrading my OS. I cannot get Photoshop CS4 to run, no matter what I've tried!
Yes, I've uninstalled the prior version before installing the new one. I entered all of my serial number and registration information, and still NOTHING! Bridge appears to work fine, but Photoshop CS4 is just one big crater right now!
I'd like to just talk with a human at Adobe on the phone for a few minutes, which should be all that's needed to get it resolved, but they do NOT offer phone support for Photoshop products!!! And, I'm unable to locate how to even become a "Premium Member" (paid) that will allegedly provide phone support!

Yes/No/perhaps. All depends on the specifics of the system and its configuration. most stuff should work, but of course there always could be compatibility issues.
