Is my macbook capable of harboring this RAM?

So I've visited tons of sites with little to no clue on what I should be looking for for RAM upgrades for my macbook. OWC, new egg, and crucial all seem to be good ones... but I don't know which one has the most desirable RAM upgrades. Plus I'm confused by the fact that crucial says my 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 duo macbook can only handle 2 GB of RAM while OWC says it can handle 4 GB. What's going on here? Can I trust OWC? I will definitely shoot for 4 GB from OWC if my macbook can actually take it.
Then again, if it can't take 4 GB RAM from OWC and it lied to me... where should i purchase 2 GB from out of those three options? And what manufacturer should I choose? i know new egg has a mess of different RAM lines.
My respects.

I'd get the RAM from OWC. That's where I'm getting my 4 gigs. (My current measly 1 GB's going to a friend. Make sure you have something to do with yours. OWC'll take them if you can't find anything better.)

  • Can I use this ram for my MacBook?

    I want this ram,
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231154
but I was wondering if my computer can support it.
    Here are my current Specs:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.1 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 1 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB41.00C1.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.31f0
    Serial Number (system): W8839*5HS
    Hardware UUID: 8C8AC0B2-FA96-5B70-A207-53D62FFC2AD2
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled

    From your manual:
*Your computer has two memory slots that you access by removing the computer’s*
*battery. Your MacBook comes with a minimum of 1 gigabyte (GB) of 667 MHz Double*
*Data Rate (DDR2) Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM) installed.*
*Both memory slots can accept an SDRAM module that meets the following*
    specifications:
*- Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR2 SO-DIMM) format*
    *- 1.25 inch or smaller*
    *- 512 MB, 1 GB, or 2 GB*
    *- 200-pin*
    *- PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz Type RAM*
*For best performance, fill both memory slots and install an identical memory module in*
    *each slot.*
Whether or not the memory that you provided a link for will work is between you and the supplier. I usually deal with macsales.com where they test the memory for Mac models and guarantee them to work.

  • Can my MacBook Pro run this ram?

I am looking to upgrade from the original RAM that came with my MacBook Pro when I purchased it last year, it has 8GB, and I want to upgrade it to 16GB as I am always using absolutely all of it, well about 7.8GB of it. I have the early 2011 17" MacBook Pro with the i7 CPU.
Now I have been looking to purchase this RAM because it is 1600Mhz instead of 1333Mhz that I currently have. From what I have read it will run at 1600Mhz without a problem. But I'm just double checking to make sure this would be good RAM to upgrade to, I am looking for as high quality RAM as I can get.

What are your thoughts and suggestions for RAM?

For what it's worth I have a LATE 2011 17" mbp and it's essential to use 1600 ram!  And, it works beautifully.
    Here's a post I posted elsewhere ...
    Hey guys,
Hopefully this will help.  With a late 2011 17".
THERE IS NO PROBLEM, AT ALL, RUNNING 1600 SPEED RAM.
    (1) I have a very late 17" macbook Pro.  (It is actually the somewhat rare 2.5 quad model.)  One of the very last ones made.
    (2) It comes with 1333 ram
    (3) I swapped in 1600 ram
    (4) IT IS ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN, THAT, THE MACHINE RUNS MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, MUCH FASTER when you have 1600 speed ram.
(Indeed, it runs 1600 / 1333 = 1.20x faster on all memory operations - it's just that simple and obvious. It's strange that some are suggesting there will be "no difference" etc.  The difference is VERY SUBSTANTIAL -- like 20%)
I did A NUMBER OF TESTS back-and-fore swapping the slow and fast ram.
and it is very, very obvious, the speed difference.
Most operations on computers are just memory bound - everything from startup to rendering and the like is quicker - obviously and clearly quicker - with faster ram.
    (5) I have had utterly no problems running the faster ram. It reports and runs the ram utterly normally, no problem.
    (6) These machines cost thousands, and ram cost a few dollars - there seems very little reason you wouldn't do this.
    (7) I do have one of the very last 17" mbp.  (It was "old new stock" - I bought it unused in March 2013.)  So, it's possible that OLDER 17" mbp will not run 1600 speed RAM.  But, I mean it costs like $100 to try, on a fantastic machine worth $1000s, so it's a huge win at low cost if it works.
I hope this helps future readers!!!!
    Cheers

  • I have a brand new MacBook Air 11 inch, 4gb RAM and 256 gb SSD where the screen flickered abnormally and got dead all of a sudden while uploading a photograph in FB. Can anybody help?

I have a new MacBook Air 11 inch, 4gb RAM, 256 SSD and use Mavericks OS. It is still under waranty period.
Just few days ago while I was uploading a photograph in facebook, the screen started flickering abnoromally. I tried using the escape button but nothing was working so switched off by pressing the power button.
After few minutes I tried to switch it on but my system never waked up. Called up the Apple Support, did SMC and PRAM but nothing worked. Then I was advised to take it to Apple's authorised service centre.
At the service centre the engineers diagnoised and then said that the MLB/mother board needs to be replaced. Had waited for six-long days and today they had replaced the MLB/mother board. Now, the system came to life but nothing has booted. The screen goes white and a '?' question mark icon keeps on flickering.
After thoroughly diagnoising it the engineer said that now the problem is with the SSD and the worse thing is all my important documents and photographs etc are no more there. And I don't have a backup of the same!
While Apple Support contact centre is assuring they would replace any other parts if found faulty, but I feel differently. First, the MLB/mother board was changed now they say it is SSD problem - so if the SSD too is replaced there are possibilities of more faults coming up. All I can see and feel that this particular machine has turned out to be architectually deffective that calls for immediate replacement.
Right now I am using a friend's windows pc to write this mail.
Feeling completely miserable - all my expectatations gone after investing in such an expensive machine, loss of all my data, wastage of time and energy and to top it all affecting my daily work.
Can anybody please advise what shall I do?

Take the system to an Apple store to be fixed or replaced as the one you have has defective hardware.

  • How do I use my serial number to find information about my MacBook Pro's Processor and RAM?

So I want to find information about my MacBook Pro's processor and RAM using the serial number because the MacBook no longer works. I remember being able to find this information on the apple website before, maybe by using the coverage checker. Did they take this information out of the coverage checker? Is it no longer possible for a costumer to obtain this information?

Append the last three characters of it to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page.
This won't reveal how much RAM it currently has installed.

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 RAM Upgarde to 8 GB

I bought a macbook pro 10.6.8 a long time ago and It's working wonderful. I couldn't be happier how fast it is comparing to any other windows computers that I have used in the past. As mather of fact, I have 2 Desktop and 2 Laptops.
I'm a programmer / Web Designer and a Social Media Expert and I was hoping someone can actually enlighten me with some advices regarding this type of mac when it comes to upgrades.
I use a lot of Adobe Programs those days and or some Video Production that require a lot of memory. I was happy with everything untill I decided to upgrade my RAM to 8 GB. Right now those are my computer specifications:
      Model Name:
    MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:
    MacBookPro7,1
      Processor Name:
    Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:
    2.4 GHz
      Number Of Processors:
    1
      Total Number Of Cores:
    2
      L2 Cache:
    3 MB
      Memory:
    4 GB
      Bus Speed:
    1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:
    MBP71.0039.B0B
      SMC Version (system):
    1.62f6
      Serial Number (system):
    34******ATM
      Hardware UUID:
I decided to go ahead and buy 8GB or RAM from Amazon. I was very excited when I got them and decided to finally upgrade and this is what happend:
If I pull out the 2 memory sticks of 2GB each and remplace them with the new 4GB Stick each the computer froze. It restart and does not get pass the gray screen with the thing spinning for about 2 minutes before it froze.
If I only pull out one (1) Memory stick of 2GB and remplace it with 4GB, the computer works fine and it restart with no problems and I get 6 GB. After doing the Memtest, everything seems to be functioning properly. But the computer is not any faster nor I see any difference at all.
The only combination that does not function is if I use both 4GB RAM each then as I said it froze. I even called CORSAIR " The place I bought my RAM from and explain to them the ptoblem and they end up sending me another version of the 4GB but it's still the same problem " Frozen ".
A guy I've been talking to had the same issue and end up using 16GB and he told me that his Macbook pro works perfect with the combination of two (2) 8GB RAM together. Doesn't make any sens to me but it still works.
If anyone has encounter a similar problem would you please comment? Thank you all very much!

Re: Macbook Pro 10.6.8 RAM Upgarde to 8 GB
The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

  • MacBook Pro very high overall RAM usage

Hi, I'm using a late 2012 13" MacBook Pro with 8GB of RAM and a dual core i7 and I've been experiencing very high RAM usage for the last couple of weeks even though I'm not really doing anything. Here's a activity monitor screenshot
As you can see I'm only really using Chrome and Sublime Text (3). Twitter and Outlook are also open but don't take up that much (Twitter maybe but that just seems to be badly optimised and it's all gone when I close it).
    So, is this normal?
    Thanks in a

This is normal. The two most important things in that screenshot are 'Swap Used' (0 means you never ran out of RAM) and the Memory Pressure graph (everything green = good). For the rest the OS knows to handle RAM,

  • Why does my MacBook Pro sometimes restores its RAM when I open it, even though it did not run out of battery?

Sometimes when I open my MacBook Pro, it restores its RAM, as if it has run out of battery, even though it has not run out of battery and it has been charging. Why does this happen, and should it be happening?

It's similar to hybernation mode in Windows.
If you put your laptop to sleep, after X amount of hours it will move to the "deeper" sleep level (save memory to disk and shut down...), to save up battery.
Otherwise if you left your laptop asleep in the evening, you could wake up to a dead battery. Not a great surprise when you in hurry to leave the house with your laptop...

  • Will this RAM work in MBP 15inch

Will this ram fit our 15 MBP bc this is another great deal
    http://www.frys.com/product/5468099

I tried using the memory finder on the Frys' site and the link to the Apple page errors out. Do you really want RAM from someone who can't keep an Apple RAM link working? I buy a lot of stuff from Fry's retail store but not RAM. Even in-store, they seldom have proper Mac memory charts.
Like SIG says, post more details about your machine to get better advice on finding the right RAM. The easiest way is to do "About this Mac..." and then click "More Info..." in the resulting window. You'll get the System Profiler screen; copy the info on the first screen and paste everything except your machine's serial number into a response. For example, doing that with my MBP gives this info:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B05
    SMC Version: 1.16f10
    Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Someone can look at this and tell exactly which model you have and what RAM it takes.

  • Can my macbook pro support 8gb of ram?

My computer has started to lag a little bit, so i was thinking of upgrading the ram from 4gb to 8gb.
Here are some facts about my MacBook Pro:
2.4 Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
    4gb Ram currently installed
    running on Lion
    2 years old
I am thinking about putting this ram in:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PS9UKW?ie=UTF8&tag=oxd-20&linkCode=as2&camp =1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001PS9UKW
Thanks for the help and advice !

I don't know because the only info they provide is a part number. You would have to go to the mfgr.'s website to find out the actual specification. It appears to be OK but I would get the real specs for it.
I would consider it wiser to trust my RAM purchases to OWC or DataMem. Brand isn't of any importance but the reliability of the vendor is. Be sure whatever you buy carries a manufacturer's lifetime warranty.

  • Is this RAM good?

I have the 2012 13" macbook pro. I think I am going to upgrade the ram before the ssd and wait a few months before the ssd. Is this ram good?http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-204-Pin-Notebook-CT2CP51264BF160B/dp/B00 5LDLVAO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375663592&sr=8-2&keywords=macbook+pro+ram

No......, mid 2012 and on Macbook Pro uses 1.35 volt memory from factory AND recommended replacement.
older macpros are using 1.5volt yes, but yours is not.
** Some people can/could incorrectly tell you "1.5volt memory is still ok for your newer Pro".....they are wrong
Many people have installed 1.5V mem on newer Pros,.....and they work for a while........  many have encountered issues doing that however. Dont do it, install 1.35Volt mem in your newer Pro.

  • Is this RAM the right RAM?

I was just wondering if this RAM would be the right RAM to put in my MacBook.
I don't know too much about this type of stuff.
    please look at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227047
    Thanks,
    Sam
p.s.- This is 2gb of RAM right instead of 1gb?

Officially, the MacBook only supports 2GB of total system RAM. To get there, buy two 1GB SODIMMS.
There are 2GB stocks out there, but I have not heard if theu will work or not. I am also not willing to pay $400 or so to find out - LOL!
It is very easy to install the RAM. Remove the battery and three screws, eject the stock RAM and insert the new stuff. I found that it did require quite an effort to get the RAM seated, so if your thumbs do not hurt when you are done, you likely did not get it all the way in. I am not kidding either.
I rocked the RAM in by applying pressure to one side, then the other until it was seated. I ran Memtest to verify it and allw as well. If you run Memtest, make sure that your MB is plugged in as it will deplete the battery if it is not. I found that out the hard way - LOL!

  • Is this RAM compatible with my Mac mini?

I'm looking into getting this RAM:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231069
and I was wondering if it would work with my Mac mini. It is teh basic Intel mini w/ teh 1.5GHz processor. I plan on getting 2 of these to fill up teh availible memory capacity.

Yes, the new Intel Mac Mini's use the same memory as the MacBook's. I installed the same SODIMM's I had in my MacBook into my new Mini and it worked just fine.
Looks like a fairly good price too.
